Differences between Envy M7 n109dx vs HP Envy 17t

Q: Differences between Envy M7 n109dx vs HP Envy 17t

The HP Envy 17t (2015 model) is no longer for sale at the HP Store so I am thinking of purchasing the HP Envy M7 n109dx from Best buy but I am noticing that there are some differences between that model and the one that originally was selling in the HP Store. I have noticed the following about the Envy M7 vs the Envy 17t Weaker Processor- The Envy 17t had a Quad Core i7 6700 HQ vs the Dual Core i7 6500U on the M7Weaker Graphics Card- The Envy 17t touch had a Nvidia GeForce 950 GTX vs a 940 GT on the M7No fingerprint reader on the M7 like on the Envy 17Some websites mention that the M7 only has dual speakers and not quad speakers and a subwoofer like the 17t. Is there other features that the M7 is missing in comparison to the Envy 17t Touch? Bonus: Would I be able to upgrade it to have two HDD's in the future using a hard drive Caddy like in the Envy 17t or not.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I own an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC (LT-5: S/N 5CH14206FM) & two HP Envy m7-n109dx Notebook PC's (LT-6: S/N CND5486SPZ, & LT-7: [Personal information removed]). Both LT-6 & LT-7 came with Windows 10 installed as the OS. Initial use of these PC's impressed me as to how slow they were to startup & shutdown, & also how much that I disliked Windows 10. Subsequently, I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit installed as the OS on LT-6 with the goal of speeding up the PC. It did so when compared to LT-7 (Windows 10), but not so when compared to LT-5, which also has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit as the OS.

Comparitive startup & shutdown times for my notebook PC's;

LT-5 (Windows 7): 42 & 14 seconds
LT-6 (Windows 7): 50 & 22 seconds
LT-7 (Windows 10): 167 & 29 seconds

I thought when I bought the HP Envy Notebook PC's with the "6th Generation Intel i7 CPU" that I would be getting much faster PC's than my HP Pavilion Notebook PC with a "2nd or 3rd Generation Intel i7 CPU". Not so !

I also found a significant difference in internet access times between the LT-6 (Windows 7) & LT-7 (Windows 10) Envy PC's. On LT-6 it took 5 seconds to access my personal banking login website from the Favorites listing in Windows Internet Explorer. On LT-7 it took 24 seconds to access the website. Similar findings are reported on the "HP Support Forum" website: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/hp-envy-st... Read more

This is not a question but just an upgrade I did to my computer myself. For those that have this computer you know how slow this thing is even for everyday use. I've been had mine since March 2016 and already it seemed out of date. I finally got around to upgrading it a little bit and I must say, so far, this thing is AWESOME. Mind you, I did all the upgrades my self and it is my first time upgrading a laptop.  You have to remove about 10 screws from the bottom cover (take the battery out first) and you have to use really small screwdrivers (phillips) and make sure YOU PUT THOSE SMALL SCREWS SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY WON'T FALL ON THE FLOOR! Once all the screws are removed, use a credit card to gently pry up the corners. DO NOT USE YOUR FINGERS! Replacing the hard drive with an ssd is super easy. Remove 4 small screws that attach the hard drive to the case, gently disconnect the cable, and then remove 4 more screws from the brackets that attach to the hard drive. Grab your ssd and reverse the procedure. Super easy. When installing windows 10, the process took about 20 minutes start to finish. I see why people love SSD's. I replaced the slow 1tb hard drive with a 500gb Samsung SSD I bought from my local electronics store. $179.99I bought a fresh copy of windows 10 home (yes, I know I could have cloned the windows 10 off the hard drive onto the ssd but I believe that hard drive had some corrupted data and didn't want to take chances on it doing it to my ssd.... I purchased a refurbished HP Envy M7 n109dx on Amazon and I noticed that eventhough it was supposed to come with a 90 day warranty, it is expired. Is there any way I can get the 90 day warranty. I just received it today in the mail.

A:Warranty on Refurbished HP Envy M7 n109dx

You mean it shows as expired on the website? Did you register it with HP? The system builds in a presumed warranty end date based on when the unit shipped to the seller. If it sits on the shelf for a while that date can come and go. The warranty is 90 days from retail delivery so keep all your paperwork and if a warranty claim comes up (let's hope not) you can prove the delivery date.

I recently purchased the HP Evy 17t, model m7-n109dx laptop, and installed the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 500 GB SSD in the M.2 slot on the laptop.  However, I cannot determine how to enable the drive so it shows up in either Windows 10 or the BIOS.  I have made a recovery USB stick so I can install the OS on the M.2 drive and make the 1 TB drive that came with the computer a storage drive.  Am I overlooking something?  I have seen others on this forum that have installed this drive and apparently had no issues at all.  I have looked in the Boot Order setup and the BIOS settings as well, and checked disk management, but nothing is there.

A:Adding Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD to HP Envy m7-n109dx

Jkmatthews, Did you download the migration software from Samsung?  I have a m7 laptop also and have considered upgrading to the SSD option - but have not done so yet. I do know that Smasung provides toos to help migrate the OS from the 1TB to the SSD - and there are others out there as well. I would advise to NOT restore the OS from your memory-stick - until you've spent some time on the Samsung site and look at their migration tools.  And I believe there may be some configuration settings in the BIOS - but not sure, Hope this helps,LaptopJack

The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.

Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy.   Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. It was purchased new in 2013.

Hey all

So, I didn't want to resort to this and potentially waste peoples time but I really can't reach a conclusion. I'm running a HP Envy 15, (full specs below) and I can't decide whether with NVIDIA Experience optimising GTA whether I could play GTA at a decent (>25fps) framerate on medium settings or not. I've tried 'Can I run it' but whilst it says I can run minimum I'm struggling to interpret whether that means I could run it decently or not!

System specs as follows:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 4 cores, 8 logical processors
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 840M, 2GB
Memory: 12GB DDR3

Can anyone give me any advice? Any other specs that I should post to make it easier to decide?

Thanks a ton,
- Clubmeber

A:Could I run GTA V? HP ENVY 15

Yes, and very fast. The RAM you have really helps in performance. It should be about 45 FPS at an average. NVIDIA Experience shouldn't give you lag unless it does on games that are less computer demanding. High settings should work fine at 30 FPS or so (with your specs).
It will be a lot easier to decide if you gave your OS bit size (32-Bit, 64-Bit, etc.)

If you have a 32-Bit OS, GTA V should give you 30-40 FPS on high settings.

If you have a 64-Bit OS, GTA V should give you 40-60 FPS on high settings.

Hope this helps!

-Mike

I just got my HP Envy  in mid September, and it's just an awful computer.  Slow to start, slow to run, the screen is buggy, and it is constantly loading, almost like it never finishes starting up. The first couple of times I used it it shut off due to some file error (which I unfortunately didn't write down the exact error). Tried to return it, I missed the 15 day mark at Best Buy. SO  my question - is this an issue anyone else has had?   I don't even know what board to put this on because I have no idea if it's hardware or software.  Just hoping someone's had a similar issue and knows a fix or can suggest what testing method I should use (while browsing the support options it looked like there were a couple of different ones). I bought this so I could avoid driving to the school computer lab every time I have homework, but that's exactly what I've been doing because this computer is such a hassle.   Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I have just bought a Envy 17T-BTO.  It has an I7-6700 CPU, 16GB of RAM and an Nvidia GTX950M graphics card so you would think it would be quite a powerhouse.  However it is deadly slow.  With nothing installed on it yet, i.e. factory clean Windows 10 (64 Bit) it takes about 1 minute from pushing the power button before you see any activity, then it says 'please wait" with the swirling dots for another minute.  Then the screen goes blank for another minute, then the "please wait" blue screen with swirling dots for another minutes, then finally the backdrop screen.  Then when I go to log in I get the swirling dots for another minute before the dektop appears, and then it is busy loading just the taskbar icon shortcuts for amazon and trip advisor which takes another 30 seconds or so.5 minutes 30 seconds to do a restart in Windows 10. My old desktop restarts into Windows 10 in about 20 seconds. What is up with my brand new laptop?  Is it the deadly slow 5400 RPM 1TB drive? Help please

A:envy 17T-BTO

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Considering the processor and the RAM, a 5400 RPM HDD is somewhat slow. For super speedy machine, it deserves an SSD  But still, 5 minutes is too much, so I guess there is something more. Most probably software issue, some 3rd party program. Just to be on the safe side, first test it for hardware issues.Start your computer again by using the power-on button andas soon as you do it, keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap) - you will enter HP boot menu like this:   Choose/press F2 and follow the on-screen instructions to perform System test >>> QUICK test. More information can be found here>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1 It should check these components:    Battery check    Processor check    System board check    Hard drive SMART check    Hard drive short DST check    Memory quick check  Hopefully (and most probably) tests will pass. Please, let me know if they fail.  Re. software issues. You can check these:>> http://www.howtogeek.com/166698/how-to-optimize-and-tune-up-your-pc-without-paying-an-electronics-st...>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04770630for some tips re. software optimization. -- You may consider uninstalling 3rd party anti... Then compare the measurements to the  EVGA 500 W you are interested in using. You will need to add an operating system (OS) to the list. OEM OS licenses are not transferable. You might as well go all the way and add a new tower. Build a new system. Keep the 700-216 as a backup PC. I changed some components on an Envy 810-150 (below) but built a new system (custom build) using all new components and a new operating system. My Systems:Envy Phoenix 810-150se running Win 7 Professional:Upgrades include: EVGA 4GB GTX 970 OC FTW with Backplate, 32 GB RAM, Corsair RM650x Power Supply, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD.My Custom Build:Corsair Obsidian Series 450D. I7 5960x. 32 GB G. Skill DDDR4 Ram. 256GB - M.2 - V-Nand - Solid State Drive. Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD. ASRock X99 Fatal1ty Pro /3.1. Corsair RM750x power supply. Nvidia GTX 980ti. Cheers!

Hey @ritu2591?,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! This is a great place to find solutions and help from our community! I understand that you have some inquiries about the HP Envy x360 Notebook. I'd be happy to help you. The HP Envy x360 Notebook does indeed have a battery. It is a built in Lithium Ion battery, located internally, rather than external like most Notebooks. See page 31 of your service manual for more information. Please keep me posted if you have any other questions. You can always say thanks by hitting the Thumbs Up button below!Cheers.

Hello everyone!I have my HP envy 17 (k250ca) laptop with windows 8.1 on it. And the thing is that I want to install windows 7 on it, bit I'm not sure is my laptop capable for this operating system.  Does someone know information related to this issue?

A:hp envy 17

Hi: HP does have W7 drivers for that model on the support page. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-17-k200-Notebook-PC-series/7527536/model/780... Be sure to make your recovery disk set before attempting to install W7 in case it doesn't work right, or you want to revert to the original operating system that came with the PC.

Q: OS envy

Hey, first post! Ok, so I have a mac user that I take care of, and he was wondering about mouse over techniques. For example, in OS X when you want to move a file to another folder from your desktop, you can drag the file, mouse over your drive and it opens the window. Now I think this is a neat little tool as well, so my question is: Can I enable such a mouse-over feature in Xp? If not, oh well, no loss. So if anyone has clues or suggestions I would greatly appreciate,
Josh

Q: HP Envy

One of the screws that holds my HP Envy 17 - j053ea laptop casing together no longer attaches to anything. It appears that the screw was once attached to a plastic fitting, but now that fitting is broken and the pieces of plastic are loose inside the laptop. When I open the laptop, the casing pulls apart near the hinge. I purchased the lap top brand new paid 1000 just over year and half ago. How can the laptop be repaired?

2(two) little black wires from mother board hanging in the inside of the computer ,i am just curious if they were grounds to the mother board very skinny wires looks like solder on the 2 ends  hate to send computer back because of two little wires but want to make sure there not of importance

A:750-414 Envy

Hi: Take a close look at the ends or where the wires originate from. I'm thinking they are spare antenna leads for an optional wireless network adapter.
