Q: Installing Windows 7 into a Brand New HDD - (Old ...

So here's the story. One of our staff knocked a ThinkCentre A2U onto the floor. It appears that the HDD is damaged beyond repair - we can't get past the BIOS screen. Easy enough to buy a new HDD, but how to install Windows 7? We have the Product Key, but Microsoft rejected it saying that we needed to contact the manufacturer - Lenovo. So here we are. DigitalRiver is no help, it just refers back to Microsoft. Any suggestions, guys?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

A few days ago, I bought a GALAX Gamer 120GB SSD and a Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM HDD from a PC parts store. I installed them in my tower's case and connected them up. Then, I attempted to install Windows 8.1 Core onto the SSD from a bootable USB drive I had made using Microsoft's Installation Media Creation Tool. The installer promptly error'd. I attempted a few more times, to no avail. I contact MS's answer desk, and they couldn't help, so I left it for the night and went to bed. The next day, I decide that I will attempt to install Windows onto the HDD and then clone it over. Of course, it installed perfectly fine on the HDD. Using both Windows' System Image Backup/Restore tool and a myriad of others, I still could not get an installation on the SSD. I ran a surface test on the SSD which turned up fine. I tried again tonight with the same USB drive to install Windows onto the SSD, again, it error'd, I contacted the MS Answer Desk again, they had me change a BIOS settings, and then take my ram cards out and clean them with an eraser. Neither of those worked, and MS support suggested I contact a local tech as it is a hardware issue.

Do you guys have any thoughts on what I should do? Feel free to PM or reply asking for more info.

TIA,
Stannis

I just bought a new laptop yesterday, so there's no bugs or anything on it. All I've done is check my gmail, install an the antivirus program Best Buy gave me, and try to install some of my audio recording software (Adobe Audition and Guitar Port).
And that is where my problem starts.
My old computer had windows xp on it, and it ran my software just fine.
Now with this brand new computer, it won't install.
I get just past the part where you agree with all their license stuff,
and then suddenly it tells me, "Setup has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." And then it just closes the program.
I bought this software in 2007, so I hope it isn't "too old" for Windows 7 or something...
...Help?

Hello

First of all, can I say that I am somewhat computer illiterate, but I am determined.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer, the specs are:

Intel Core i7 2700K CPU - 3.5GHz
Gigabyte / Asus Z68 Motherboard
16GB DDR3-1600MHz RAM
1TB SATA3 7200RPM Hard Disk
BluRay Combo Drive(LG)
2 x ATI HD6970 2GB PCI-e in Crossfire configuration
Antec Nine Hundred Gaming Case
Thermaltake Tough Power XT 875W PSU

Now it comes time to install windows 7 professional, so I purchase a copy of the OEM version (because I'm stingy).

When I put the DVD in the drive it boots straight away and it comes up with a black screen that says "Windows is loading files........." . The bar on the screen loads and then it says "Starting Windows", after that a blue screen with some leaves and what looks like a very small bird appears in what I am assuming is meant to be the start of the windows 7 professional setup screen, however nothing comes up and after a while (5 minutes or so) my computer restarts and it's groundhog day (has been doing it for the last 3 hours).

Can anyone help me?
Cheers

Hi all, trying to setup up a secondary monitor (LG 24MP58) for my Lenovo Yoga 900 tablet...to no avail. Everything seems to be assembled correctly, but absolutely no response from the LG. Doesn't even light up or appear to be "trying" to work. There are no physical buttons or controls of any kind, on the monitor. Win 10 generated a PnP monitor in Devices. HDMI is connected to Type-C USB port on tablet via Insignia adapter. Would eventually like to have a duplicate of my tablet screen on the LG.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

My husband bought me a brand new laptop from Best Buy and also recently purchased an iPod touch for me for Mother's day. I had downloaded iTunes 9 on my old laptop (before getting this new one), the old computer was running Windows XP and I did not encounter any problems installing iTunes 9 & using it to get my Touch started.

I wish to install iTunes 9 on the new computer to use for playing, storing, and burning CDs but when the download is complete and I start going through the installation process, at the very end of it all I get an error message saying that the installer detected an error and the installation could not be completed...and then something about try installing later. I would have copied and pasted the message but I am in a bit of a hurry and I don't have time to sit through the whole download again to get the message.

Anyway, I can follow directions but if anyone has any help to offer please put the information in lamens terms...I'm very familiar with computers and other forms of technology but after wasting all day trying to solve this on my own I just want someone who can help to give me the simple steps to solve this problem so I can get iTunes up and running.

I just unpacked my custom build and got it turned on.. went to try and get the internet working, and for the life of me.. i can't figure it out.
I don't even have a little wireless bar down in the right hand corner. when i try to connect to a network in network and sharing center, it wants me to plug in an ethernet cable. But i want wireless.. Also in the side panel of Network and sharing center, i don't even have the option for wireless.. i have Change adapter settings, and Change advanced sharing settings.

I try to set up a new connection or network and Connect to the internet, the only way it asks me to connect is by broadband(PPPoE). If i try set up a new network it asks me to choose the wireless router or access point i want to configure, might take up to 90 seconds for networks to appear.. but nothing pops up.
Anyone have any ideas?

I suspect the answer will be NO but I thought I would ask...

Thanx for the replies...

No need to install 7. Download 10 Pro from Tech Bench, put it on a USB with Rufus, clean install Windows 10 and put in your 7 Pro key when asked.

Absolutely there is no need to install 7 first.

I just recieved my new Dell dimernsion 4600 and wanted to install an Optorite DVD+/-RW that I just purchased. The burner reads and writes in both cd and DVD. My new Dell came only with a CD ROM drive. I am wanting to know if there would be an advantage to keeping the new Dell CD-ROM drive in my computer or should I just install the DVD burner in its place.

THanks for your assistance. I am definitely new at installing hardware so any tips about the installation process would be very helpful

A:installing DVD burner on my brand new dell

If the CDROM is on the secondary IDE cable, install the DVDRW on the same cable as the CDROM. Make the DVDRW master and the CDROM slave.

This way you can do on the fly CD to CD copying.

At the end of the year you can replace the CDROM with one of those Dual layer DVD 16x drives that are supposed to be coming out.

2. I am installing a brand new hard drive, fresh out of the box.
3. The drive that died on me was a Seagate Momentus 7200.1, 100GB, 7200 RPM, Firmware 8.04
4. I went online to best buy and micro center, but am in the dark regarding the driver interface. Since the laptop is pretty much dead in the water, how can I determine the it? I'll need to know that before I walk up to the kid in the store, right?
5. As soon as you tell me what I need to buy, I'll install it and then have some questions about installing Windows XP.

Thanks in advance,

A:Installing a brand new hard drive, what's next?

Hey Patrick,

Yes you check what the problem is in your lap before buying the HDD. So,
Does the laptop turns on without the hard disk? If so a message should appear there is no boot device.
If the lap works fine without the hard disk well you should buy the new one.
If the lap is pretty much dead well it is probably dead from every circuit on it.

I am trying to install Spore and in the middle of the installation it gives me a CRC Error! I think it's either the CDROM Drive or a bad spot on the hardisk because other new games will install fine. No scratches on disk and a used CDROM?

HELP!! This is frustrating!
Thank you!

A:CRC Erorr message installing brand new Game

CRC is a mean of verifying the integrity of the data. The content of the data that's written on the drive is compared to a reference data. Could be an error on the CD, with the CD drive or on the hard drive but an overheating cpu or a failing ram stick can also cause read/write errors.

See if you can install the game on another computer to check whether it's the CD or your computer that's in cause. If it installs fine on another computer come back and report here.

There are 2 basic types of hard drive that most people will want to install.

They are 1 - Pata, also called ide and ata. Easy to recognise as they have a large 40pin socket and jumper settings.

And 2 - Sata, both sata 1 and 2 are set up in the same way. They are easy to recognise as they don't have a 40 way socket but have a 4 way instead.

There are also scsi hard drives but i doubt may people will be using them so i will not be dealing with them in this post!!

Pata - Pata's will connect via a 40 way data cable that has 2 plugs on it excluding the one that plugs into the mobo.

It is VERY VERY important to get the jumper settings correct or THEY WILL NOT WORK!!!!

There are 3 basic jumper settings, cable select, master, and slave.
The easiest way to set them up is to use cable select. The mobo itself will then assign master and slave as it sees fit. Usually it will set the drive on the end plug as master and the other one as a slave.

If you are running more than 1 pata drive on the same cable then you must insure they are both set to cable select or that 1 is set to master and 1 is set to slave. Having both set to master WILL NOT WORK, and having both set to slave WILL NOT WORK.

Once that is set correctly most mobo's will be happy and boot fine, if yours doesn't then you will need to check the bois settings. The instructions for doing this will be in your mobo manual!!!

Sata - Only 1 device is catered for per cable so ther... Read more

Hi I recently built a system, bought all the parts on newegg, put it all together, and everything starts up fine, seems really smooth. Unfortunately when I try to install vista, it BSOD's on me before I can even get to any startup screen. It goes to the windows loading files part, then on the next teal blue screen it bsod's. I bought a new sound system along with all the other components and it included a sub that warns to keep it away from PC's etc. Unfortunately they put the boxes right next to each other outside my door, is there any chance it could have fried both my HD's? I've tried everything I can think of, installing with just 1 HD (tried both), tried with 1 stick of ram (tried both), I just can't think of what else it could be. I'm pretty sure everything is compatible or else I wouldn't even get this far, but I'll list my system.

Also tried to install windows xp as a last resort, I get a bsod during installation on that (right at the end, finalizing installation step) and eventually I even got it installed, but then it bsod right at the end. When I restarted I even got to a mainscreen kinda, where it told me it was changing my resolution, it changed it then I got an error about Windows media player. Tried repairing the install and it said couldn't copy file wmp.dll along with about 30 other files. I'm just at a loss and really frustrated here. Anyway, here is the system.

A:BSOD installing Vista on a brand new comp

Hi -

I am concerned about the formatting of the drive(s).

Re-format the HDD with KillDisk then try the Vista installation again. Leave XP out of this for now.

KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -
ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Be sure to change the BIOS firing order so the DVD is 1st.

If you get another BSOD, get at least the 1st 2 sets of numbers. Any digits to the right of the "0x" that are zeroes are assumed. So, if the code is

0x0000008e -- this is equal to 0x8e or 8e

Try to get the "8e" or whatever the number is from the 1st and 2nd set of numbers of the bugcheck

A:Lenovo IdeaCentre 510-15ABR - installing an SSD for brand

A SSD is no different from a regular spinning drive to the computer , and per the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model, you can add a M.2 SSD storage drive (see page 34 of Hardware maintenance manual) in addition to the drive you already have if it is a spinner  in the storage bay, so there is no reason to go with a hybrid, and I believe one additional storage bay is available on that model as well that can accept an addition 3.5" drive, or even a 2.5" HDD or SSD drive (with 3.5"-2.5" adapter) as shown on page 37. Cheers,

Hi.

A few weeks ago I decided to get a new computer for gaming, but not knowing much in the field of hardware I let my cousin (way better on the subject) basically pick out the parts, let me order them, and he'd put it together.

The parts came a few days ago and Ive had the computer built for awhile, we ordered Vista home premium with it (32 bit edition) and I still have yet to get it installing correctly.

So basically the first night I start installing it, everything seems to be going fine but its taking a LONG time (around 7 hours), at 1 AM it still shows no signs of being done and I did not want to leave it on overnight, so I turned it off.

Turned it on the next morning, saying it didnt finish and would need to resintall, tried it again except this time it stays at 0% on the second step ("Expaning Files")

I mean, after like an hour or 2, its still at 0%, but the computer has not actually FROZEN, just hanging or whatever.

Ok, no big deal, I use a reformating program, completely wipe the HD and try again.

Its not freezing anymore! huzzah! So I wait for 7 MORE long hours, watching it slowly install, it restarts a few times, theres some points where its just a black screen with the mouse cursor for like 15 minutes, I get the "Vista is preparing for its first start" message, it restarts, says its completeing the installation, then I get an error saying something along the lines of "Windows setup failed to install Vista on this hardware"... A:Huge issues installing Vista on a brand new PC

It's possible that you got bad memory or a bad drive. Start with the memory. If you have multiple sticks, remove them one at a time and try to install. If you want faster results, use a memory test. You can use the one on the Vista DVD or:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

Then I'd suspect some misconfiguration of the drive. Check BIOS settings and look on the drive for a jumper (even SATA).

I've installed a few Vistas and the number 7 was not ever involved, even on old machines.

Good day to all. Can someone please assist me, advance thanks..

I bought a PC with MSI mainboard, N430GT, with 2-2GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/2G installed RAM (=4GB), 500GB HDD.
Everything works smooth until I read that I could upgrade memory up to 16GB max. BTW my OS is Win7 64 Ultimate.

So I decided first to buy and install 2pcs-4GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G (=8GB), for a few days everything works fine as expected, I shut it down one night and the following day restarting my PC, it turned BLUE with messages., and then on as often as every 5 minutes or less it turns BSOD.

I asked my friends and told me to do a clean OS reinstallation and I did that, but the problem persisted as if nothing changed.

So I did a memory diagnostic and It noted that possible hardware problem.

I did immediately changed and swap back my original 2pcs-2GB memory, and surprisingly until this thread writing it is ok.

My mainboard supports dual channel (two slots only) and I want to know how could I checked which one of the two 4GB memory modules is not working, or is it safe to install only one 4GB memory to checked which of the two is working or both are not working?

Any immediate response is of great help. thanks.

A:BSOD after upgrading &/or installing new memory module on brand new PC

The Kingston Value Ram (KVR) is known to be marginal and not even work in some PC's. The regular Kingston memory is usually OK but none of the techies that I know will use or recommend the KVR.

Check the MSI (or whoever the motherboard vendor is) site for your motherboard model (you didn't list it so I can't check for your). The N430GT is your video card, not the motherboard. Most motherboard vendors list compatible memory for their motherboards. Best to use memory that has been certified for the specific motherboard.

Hello,

I just purchased a microsoft zune mp4 player (brown 30gb). I have loaded all my music (that's compatible) and my video files, and a few pictures. The 2nd day I was on a road trip and it ran out of battery that night, and I left it alone I had no computer access to charge it. The next morning I open the zune software to charge it (today), and I wanted to load a song onto it and it said error, no more space. How is this possible if I had 21 gigs left the last night and i only have 1200 songs, 10 pics, and 2-3 movies, 10 music videos. I looked online and also other people had the same problem, but it didn't show how to solve it. And the microsoft website just said the inbox should've been enlarged, and that didn't make any sense but I did it anyway, no results. I just spent 200 bucks on something I was pretty hyped about, now look where it put me, microsoft always lets me down from the x64OS, to MFSX, and to this.

Does anybody know what to do?

I am not Windows person, I am a Linux, Unix and Mac person but my best friend's father recently got  a refurb\ed by Dell. Dell Lattitude E6330 laptop with Wnidows 7 Professional SP1 installed on it and I am the most computer knowledgeable person they know so I am supposed to get it setup.

As delivered by Dell this system will not do a WIndows Update. This to me is totally outrageous but outrage aside does anyone know how I can fix this?
It s an i5 with 4GB RAM but the 32-bit version of  Windows 7 Professional. I have downloaded the WIndows Update problem detector and run it but I cannot get Widows to update.  am sure I am not the only one experiencing this issue.

Any help would be much appreciated. Take pity on a poor soul..

Hi there,

I have a Gateway DX-4822 that I bought in 2010. I am planning to build a custom pc and will probably be switching from Intel to AMD.

I have read that OEM License keys are linked to motherboards and can't be used on a new rig, but some people have mentioned that it's possible to call Microsoft during installation and lie about the situation to get Windows activated on new computer.

These threads are 1-2 years old, so I was just wondering if this is still a possibility? Will save me over $100.

Further, I know this is not the thread for this but I am planning to get AMD FX-6300 along with ASRock 970M PRO3 motherboard. Do you think I can use my old computer case?

A:Can I use OEM Windows 7 Product Key to activate Windows on BRAND NewPC

No- it's definitely not legal to do what you propose in terms of licensing. (which is not to say that it won't work sometimes)

Hi all, Just got my Y700, saw that the bios is actually UEFI and not bios. Not at all impressed with windows 10! I would like to: A. Shrink down my primary partition to install Windows 7 also add another partition for my documents and have system dual boot.B. Fresh install windows 10 less the Lenovo bloat. This brand new computer is super slow at bootup!C. Does putting this system in Legacy mode enable the old bios style? Any tutorials or tips on the above would be great!

Hello,
I just bought an Asus VivoTab smart (ME400C) brand new, I plugged for 8 hours and when I turn it on the screenshot that I uploaded came, so it asks me for the username and password, which I didn?t create, I called the seller, they told me it was packed so no one used it before. I called Asus and they told me they can send me a device to reset it but if I am in USA, I am not, I will be traveling for a long while and they don?t have Asus support where I am.
The tablet comes with Windows 8. I tried to connect an USB Keyboard and press F9 while is booting so I can access the menu and reset the computer but it didn?t work, I guess it recognizes the keyboard after the booting, and because it doesn?t have a keyboard is not possible to do it.
I tried to hold the volume + power bottom and I can access the setup of the tablet but it doesn?t help either. Any ideas what can I try to solve this problem?

Thank you very much

Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time. As a 9 year Windows user I just am left disgusted and disappointed after finally getting an otherwise great new laptop and discovering that these updates that are all waiting for you once you get going do little more than throw your machine into a boot loop, from which there is essentially no escape.*

I've researched this endlessly this morning and no one really has a definitive fix for this. I'm sure it's one or two specific updates in the pack (thinking KB2933809, KB2919355) that are marring the installation, but whatever the case, I am unable to boot into safe mode (yes, I followed all the prompts and did it correctly, it simply restarts back into the error message, I.e. safe mode is not responsive) to carry out any of the procceses stated online, and am left with only a factory reset option to once again try my hand.*

It's actually resetting now to factory, from essentially factory settings, and is taking ungodly long. I based.that previous statement on executing factory resets on many a device over many diff versions of windows over the better part of ten years.

I have chronic pain in my fingers and so I have to stop typing right there since this is on my smartphone and hurts tremendously to do.*

If any good soul out there can assist me, please:

Thank you for reading my querey.

Hi Windows Hater, welcome to the TSG Forums....

It is easy to understand your frustration, annoyance and other less printable feelings towards everything computing... I've been there, got many a T-shirt with that logo on it.

There are two things that I can share with you right up front.

1. Lenovo

My experiences with Lenovo has mainly been positive. When I have had a less-than-positive experience, they have immediately and unreservedly "sorted the problem". 1st-line support is rather inexperienced, but once you move on to 2nd-line support the support personnel are knowledgeable and very helpful and respond promptly to email correspondence.

2. W8.1

I have supported Windows OS's since W95 and I can absolutely assure you that W8.1 is the best, most accomplished and most professional OS yet produced by Redmond.

So what should you do to fix your problem...? Contact Lenovo and let them sort it out for you - which they will do. As a customer of theirs, there is absolutely no reason why you should have to sort out a computer that is still under warranty.

If you did the Windows 8 upgrade, this question most likely doesn't pertain to you, as your Windows 7 probably already had it on it.

This is for people who have purcahsed a NEW laptop or desktop running Windows 8.

1. Are you able to open web pages that contain Flash?
2. Did you have to download the Adobe Flash player or did it just open the Flash pages right-off-the-bat?
3. Is there an "App" in Windows 8 store to download the Flash player?

I realize that Flash is going away (probably with Windows 9), and was almost not support with Windows 8 but it is my understanding that do to some pressure, Microsoft did decide to support it.

I have a brand new Laptop with Windows 8, just out of the box, and it does not open flash on web pages that have it.

What can I do to solve this so I can see web pages with Flash on my Window 8 laptop?

Thanks.

A:Brand new computer with Windows 8 ?

There's two versions of IE10 in W8, a Metro/Modern version with limited support for Flash and the desktop version which you need to go to the Adobe website and download Flash for just like for previous versions of Internet Explorer.

You also have the option of using Google Chrome which includes Flash or Mozilla Firefox which you need to download a Flash plug in for which you also get from the Adobe Flash website.

I inadvertently removed two buttons (the search & multi desk view) on my taksbar in Window10. Its driving me crazy on how to put them back, in fact, I can't focus on anything. I've attached two screen shots showing the before and the after. PLEASE, any help would be appreciated.

I've attached a 3rd screenshot so that you can see how CCleaner is dropping off the taskbar. I can't figure out how to make it fit and add back search and multi desktop view

Thank you

Hey all,
Recently built a new system and while playing games, mainly bf3, my pc blue screens.
My system is : i7 2600k
gtx 560 TI
p8p67-m pro rev 3.0
G-Skill 8GB DDR3 PC12800 1600mz
Type Evo Labs 700W Modular High Efficiency - 700W ATX Silent Gaming Modular PC Power Supply PSU

I am also using windows 7 Professional 64 bit

I started getting blue screens when I was using an old hdd, and even after formatting and doing a clean install, the blue screens kept occurring.
As I said in the title, it is a completely new system. I am pretty sure that it isn't the CPU overheating, as I am using water cooling and getting no more than 50 degrees on the processor. The GPU and mobo both seem to be under temperature too. The BSOD keeps saying that "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor".
I have tried updating every driver I can think of including BIOS, chipsets, GPU, but nothing has worked so far.
As I said before, I kept getting the same BSOD while installing a new windows, and also a completely new install on a brand new SSD.

Not sure if these are listed in the dumps, but the blue screen codes are
STOP: 0x00000101 (0x0000000000000019, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF880030F9180, 0x0000000000000006)

And help is greatly appreciated, as having a new system perform worse than my old one is depressing!
I have attached the dump file which I hope is some help, b... Read more

I bought a brand new PC from Curry's PC World a few months ago and only now I'm just coming across a really unexpected annoying issue. My PC keeps freezing out of no where, I have no idea how or why but it is actually annoying.

I thought it was something to do with the drivers, but I wouldn't know because I'm not experienced with stuff like this. When I restarted my PC, it even came up with a Windows message saying repairing drivers. I then logged in and went to use my PC again and it still froze.

Before that I looked online to see if anyone knows why this is happening. One person said to reset Windows through safe mode. Did that, still froze. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be very appreciated.

Hello.
Yesterday I bought an ibuypower PC. I got home and immediately saw problems. The first boot up didn't show a Windows logo so I installed Windows which took around 3 hours as I had to mess around in command prompt to get things all in order. I finally did that and noticed that there was a huge green line through my brand new Asus monitor. I turned the resolution to 1920x1080 in hopes of fixing it but to my dismay I had no luck. On top of that everytime Windows actually did boot up correctly my monitor would freeze for a second then go completely blank. I've been searching around the internet trying to find any information on this but I have found nothing. In case you were wondering when it goes blank there isn't a mouse cursor and the computer stays on. I have an Msi r9 390x Gfx card and am on Windows 10. I will provide pictures. Thank you.

I've just set up a brand new Dell XPS 8700 desktop.  All uneventful except the Dell (wired) mouse didn't work - no problem, I have several wireless ones and they do work <G>.  The Dell is now online via WiFi; I will connect it to the router by cable in due course (I am fussy about cable quality so will wait till the new ones arrive <G>).  I am typing this now on the new Dell.

This initially set up Windows 7 Professional.  It says that Win 8.1 Pro is built in, I take it that is the Anytime Upgrade mentioned in several places.  I intend in due course (that is, almost immediately) to proceed to Windows 10 (can't see any reason not to?).  Question arising, should or must I first upgrade to 8.1, and from there to 10?

On starting up, the Win 7 wanted a whole mess of updates - more than a hundred.  Those are all now downloaded and installed.  I have not yet installed any software, other than Google Chrome as default browser.

For most of the past two years I have been using a Dell laptop, running Windows 8.0, as my main computer.  I now want to move most of my "stuff" - bookmarks, E-mail (and the rest of MS Office 365) etc., over to the desktop machine.  The laptop will then start living as a laptop, going to meetings and so on.

This machine (like all Dells AFAIK) came with a one year subscription to McAfee Live Safe.  I will eventually want to replace the McAfee with Avast Internet Securit... Read more

Hello All.

I need some help really badly.
I've just got a brand new laptop for my birthday/christmas , and is already installed with windows 10.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion 17-G153NA, and is brand new.
My problem is removing windows 10, which is a pain to remove.
I've tried to install windows 7 64bit hp factory default, but with no success.
I've tried to install windows 7 32bit straight from the disc, but it just spin with no image or anything.
I've tried windows xp professsional, it go so far, but states that the ACPI something like that is incompatible with.
I've tried windows vista, straight from the disc, but when it comes to install on disc, it states can't install as the harddisk gtp setup something like that, and won't install.
Is there anyway to remove windows 10, as my old laptop, an acer aspire 7551, which is 6 years old, has windows 7 home premium 64bit, which i'm using right now, but is so long in the tooth with being very slow, and my new laptop, which is extremely powerful, just sits doing nothing, with windows 10.
I really need to remove windows 10 as its doing my head in.
Anyone know how, much appreciative for your help.

Hi BCMMSX and welcome to the Forum
I don't think you can "go back" to Windows 7 as your new machine never had Win 7 in the first place. Have you got a licence key and installation disc for Windows 7 Retail.
When it comes to cleaning the hard drive his should do the job;

Hi,
Currently I'm using windows 10 on a HDD on my desktop.
The desktop used to run windows 8, but I upgraded it. (so the product key is used)

Using Belarc Advisor, I got my Windows 8 product key.
I have a brand new SSD here so I want to upgrade to this SSD.

However, the HDD is bigger than the SSD and I can't shrink the HDD to be smaller than the SSD.
Hence, I'm looking for a way to download Windows 8 iso file and use that iso file to install Windows 8 on my new SSD.

Is it possible to download a Windows 8 iso file with a used Windows 8 product key.
If the answer is yes, how do I do it?

A:Install windows on a brand new SSD with product key

Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

But, do you want Windows 8, or Windows 10? Just install Windows 10 if that is what you want to end up with.
