Watching Netflix in Full Screen flickers intermittently

Q: Watching Netflix in Full Screen flickers intermittently

Hi, I have this strange issue where when watching Netflix in either IE11, Edge or Netflix App in full screen mode the display would sometimes flicker or goes black for a few seconds then back to the video. This would happen continuously every 10 second of so during playback. I had similar issue with watching YouTube video before, but it was resolved by selecting "Use Software Rendering instead of GUP". However this does not seem to have any affect on NetFlix videos. I did some troubleshooting and discovered that this issue appears to be caused by Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 driver. When disabling the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M driver, the issue still appearing. However, when disabling the 530 driver, the issue seems to go away but video became slightly choppy. The default 530 driver what came with the PC was .4475 and I have since updated to the latest version .4627. Updating the graphic driver did not solve the issue and I also did a full uninstall and reinstallation of the driver. I have the latest BIOS for this computer F.11 Rev.A Wondering if anyone have similar issue or offer some additional troubleshooting advice. Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So I've updated my graphics card driver, reinstalled flash and silverlight, disabled antivirus, reinstalled my browsers (it doesn't work on any browsers). I have no idea what to do.

Looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/h4bAn

Now here's the kicker. I can hear the sound perfectly fine. And if I move the browser to my second monitor I can watch it just fine, but my main monitor stops displaying.

Thanks in advance

Hey guys, ive attached everything that the instruction sticky said to.

I really don't do much with this computer except browsing the web and photoshop here and there. No gaming. Ive gotten dozens of BSODs over the past few months. Almost always when watching flash videos. Every now and then i get a really quick screen flicker, especially when using photoshop. The computer has gotten so many BSODs and random reboots that i think its caused windows to not be able to update etc... They always fail now.

Ive triend a few new graphics drivers as they come out for my graphics card. None helped.

I ran memtest for 8 passes and was good. Switched the memory completely and used different memory slots to be sure.

Im pretty sure its a hardware problem but I dont know if its the GPU, motherboard, PSU etc...

-Windows 7 64 bit (i gave reinstalled windows and it didnt solve the problem)
-System is about 1.5 years old
-OS was reinstalled maybe a year ago
-Radeon R7950 GPU
-AMD FX-8350 Processor
-ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard
-500w power supply (not sure who makes it)
-PC was built by a friend
-Desktop

I attached a screenshot of bluescreenview. Almost all of them happened while watching flash videos.

Thanks in advance!

I need help. I talked to NetFlix, they are stumped. I changed video cards and got the latest drivers. I even formatted my hard drive and reinstalled my applications. This last got rid of the problem, but it came back. At this point, when I try to watch a Netflix video on my computer,m either in a window or in full screen mode, I hear the audio track, but only see a black screen. A YouTube video is fine in a window, but full screen mode is pure black though with audio. Other videos players will sometimes go to black in full screen.

I am running Windows XP, SP3 on a 2.2 gHz computer with 2 MB ram. The new video card is an NVidia GeForce 6200 AGP with 512 MB ram. I am using a DVI connection to an ASUS LED monitor.

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone may offer on this subject.

I have bought my ideapad just few months ago and it already started driving me nuts. Initially ten days back I noticed that when I used mousepad to pause something on Youtube or any video channel it flickered for like a second and I ignored thinking may be mouse pad is loose or something like that. But now it starts flickering suddenly and does a lot so that you have no option other than restart. It feels like may be some update was pending but then again after an hour or so it is doing the same. I installed lenovo system update app and tried to install drivers or update them. There are some optional installs which I am not sure if I must do. I found one answer for Yoga flicker and that had to do with the installs but I am not sure which ones I need to update for ideapad 520. If someone has solved this please let me know. It is very frustrating. Thanks a lot!

Why does my computer freeze up and unfreeze in a cycle when I am watching something in full screen, lets say you tube, veoh or just watching window media player full screen.

The computer will freeze to the point that I can't move until I carefully move my mouse to get to desktop again, this is where it stops freezing completely,
The freezing does not go away immediately, it freezes for about couple more second after returning to desktop then it goes away.

This does not happen immediately though, it takes about 1 min to 10 min for the freezing to begin.

OS is:
Vista 32bit sp1. with latest update from Microsoft
Firefox with latest update

I have a DELL Optiplex GX520 PC and I have issues when watching videos on certain media players.
There are no problems when I watch on the regular sized player, however when I go to full screen it often restarts or occasionally gives me the blue screen.
There are never any issues on Windows Media Player however VLC, DIV X player and some online players such as YOUTUBE will always restart shortly after they've been switched to fullscreen.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could fix this problem?
Any/all advice would be highly appreciated.

This never happened before until recently, my screensaver would start while I am watching movies under full screen in WMP, and i am not sure what i did to trigger this. I made sure that the "allow screen saver during playback" setting in WMP is unchecked, and my battery plan for my laptop is set to 'balanced'. I'd rather not have to change my screensaver settings everytime i watch a movie or a show. Any help please?

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
4GB RAM
Intel Duo Core 2.5Ghz
Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX

A:Screensaver starts while watching videos in WiMP under full screen

OK i found out how it happened

Screensaver kicked in while i watched videos in WMP under full screen because I installed a newer version of my Video Card driver. After I reinstalled my driver back to the default version that came with my laptop....movies no longer get interrupted by the screensaver. But obviously newer drivers are important too, so i have yet to figure out how to have latest version driver and not have this screensaver issue.

Hope this info helps people who have the same problem.

I've been getting a BSoD since updating my nVidia drivers for Overwatch. The error I've been getting is "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR". I get this BSoD when I am watching a video in full screen on one of my monitors(e.g YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, HBOGO etc) although the crash does not happen every time I click on my other monitor while being fullscreen on a video, it happens about 50% of the time. It has never occured when having something else in fullscreen like a game or anything like that. I am using Google Chrome. I've tried rolling my drivers back and the problem still persists, and so I updated back to the up to date version of the driver.

I don't know why, but ever since this afternoon, Windows decides to crash complete whenever I'm a few minutes or so in watching a YouTube video. It doesn't do it playing intensive games like Grand Theft Auto 5 yet it decides to do it watching a YouTube video. How Windows crashes is the reason why I'm making this thread.

What happens when I'm in the middle of watching a video is that the screen goes black with the cursor flickering and later disappears as well as the audio cutting off with nothing but blackness. Pressing anything does not make sounds, and nothing appears after a moment of blackness, not even a blue screen. And after restarting, the interface does some strange behavior I've never seen before. The resolution is changed to 800x600 (or 1024x768, I don't know, 4:3 aspect ratio) and the options are even more awkward. The only options through adapter settings (resolution cannot be changed in advanced display settings for some reason) are all in 4:3 aspect ratio with of all the standard refresh rates in PCs is a never heard of 64 Hz applied to each option

Fortunately, things go back to normal after another restart, but the crashing while watching YouTube videos in full screen continue to happen. Now this issue doesn't annoy me to the very core, but it does bother me that such an interruption can happen. I prefer to watch videos in full screen, so I want to know how I can fix it. I don't want to be hesitant to watch something in a preferred mode forever. Let me know ... Read more

Hi I seem to be getting frequent BSODs when streaming videos on youtube or when using other streaming video players if I have them fullscreen. In addition, when I close the game Civilization 5 my computer will often crash to a BSOD.

When I checked bluescreenview there was only one minidump summary, however, I have had probably 20 BSODs in the past week. I'm unsure how many summaries are included in the attached minidump files.

I'm running 64 bit 7 with 4GB ram, an Intel Quad core Q9550 cpu running at 2.83 GHz, GPU is a Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 (up to date) and I use Microsoft Security Essentials as an Antivirus. I have a 700 Watt psu, with a single hard drive at about 60% capacity.

I've been getting BSODs frequently for the past few months but much more frequently lately. Thank you for any and all help, and please let me know if more information is required.

A:BSODs when watching streaming full screen videos and closing Civ5

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol 120% software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please uninstall the programs, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ

Some free alternatives (I don't use them, so I can't comment on them)

MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor

I'd suggest updating your network drivers from the manufacturer's website also. They date from 2009, so they may be troublesome.

Please post back if this doesn't stop the BSOD's - there's 2 ways that we can go (either running Driver Verifier or hardware diagnostics).

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

A:Watching Netflix on old crt tv

I'm about to get a cable broadband connection into my house and don't know how to hook up my old Sony trinitron tv up so I can watch Netflix. Also need a wifi router. Are you looking to hook up a computer? Or are you looking to use ANY device to hook to the TV to watch Netflix? If you are talking about the latter, then there are number of devices that will hook to an old CRT TV by way of a standard composite (i.e. yellow "RCA" jack) or maybe even an S-Video jack since your CRT Trinitron TV likely does not have HDMI or component (red-green-blue RCA jacks). If nothing else, Wii can hook up to CRT TVs and you can watch Netflix through your Wii. Also, older Roku devices (but not the Roku 3 it appears) can hook up to older analog connectors and they offer a Netflix "channel".If you are talking about a computer, then you will either need a graphics card that support output to a composite video connection or you will need a converter that will go from VGA to composite (or S-Video) or even DVI/HDMI to composite (or S-Video).If you clarify what you specifically want to do, then I might be able to provide more specific guidance. Also, it would help if you listed what specific input connections you have on the TV and if you want to use a computer, what specific output options you have on the computer (i.e. brand/model of computer).

Got a BSOD when watching Netflix so it's probably my display driver because it always is lol. Although it started out with a freeze up of my PC and mouse then a BSOD then once the PC restarted, windows were configuring updates before it got to the login screen so that's different. I don't see any updates that I can find that were installed when this happened. Tried windows update history but last one installed was a few days ago. So the updates installed today must be listed somewhere. I still have the display driver the windows updates gave me about a month ago. I'm not going to bother getting a new one from amd.com because I always have trouble whenever I try a new one from there. I think it's because my PC needs a catalyst version and not one from crimson. I used to have catalyst and had less (almost none) problems with it.

Sorry but I don't have a minidump file to post. There's a folder "minidump" but it's empty for some reason and the date modified was from January so I guess the file caused by the BSOD never made it there this time like it usually does. I hope that's a good sign! My system shut down on me one time not long ago and guess what I was doing? Watching Netflix! I guess it has to do with the fan or something getting too hot. That's a bummer because I enjoy Netflix!

Occasionally I will be watching a video or Netflix movie and sometimes it just stops streaming and makes a loud noise which continues until I have to manually shutdown the computer. I've even just tried closing the video or movie but it will not allow me - it just freezes accompanied with the loud noise.

Is there something I can do to fix this occasional problem?

A:Watching Netflix or Video online

It's possible that your computer is overheating and the loud noise you hear is the CPU fan revving up in an attempt to cool the CPU. Without knowing anything about your system it's impossible to say for sure.

I had a few things running in background, including mIRC, l33tsig, MSE, and Daemon tools. Was streaming a film on Netflix, using Chrome browser. First BSOD I've had while on Windows 7. I had reinstalled Windows on January 4th, 2012. I do a clean reinstall about once a year. I don't recall the error code I got with this BSOD, sorry about that, perhaps it's in the report I'm attaching? Computer seems fine now, but it is disconcerting, using Windows 7 for quite some time now, completely stable up until last night.

Please run these tests and report back the results

Hello everyone,

I recently had a BSOD while watching Netflix. I did a little research of my own, and it looks like it is my Intel Graphics controller that had the problem.

PC-FUNEBRE-14_08_2015_142106,13.zip

I tried to update the driver automatically through Windows, but it told me it was already up to date. I then downloaded this driver : win64_153623.exe (version 10.18.14.4251) and tried to install manually, but I received an error that this file was not valid for my computer.

I also tried to use the Intel "manage drivers" utility, but it did not detect any drivers on my system.

Could you give me a few tips for solving this problem ? Thank you very much !

For reference I an running Windows 8.1 with all critical updates, Intel Graphics 4600 + Nvidia GTX 860M, 8Go Ram, Core i7.

I have tried two kits of ram (the first showed errors, which is why I switched, but I guess that didn't fix it)
I am also using a new gpu since the first crashes started, and the motherboard is only 1 month old.

Ignore the 0x119 bugcheck, this was caused by a poorly coded application.

So ruling out ram, gpu, mobo, and OS installation, what could be causing this?
All bsods occurred while watching Netflix, and I run my browsers in sandboxie.
Since this is a privilege error most likely, and sandboxie intercepts the kernel to keep my system secure, could this be the cause?
I will not uninstall sandboxie, don't waste your time suggesting it.
Just want to know if it's a possibility.

Hey folks,

I've received a few BSOD's in the past couple days while doing what's in my title. These are the 3 messages I've received:

POOL_CORRUPTION_IN_FILE_AREA
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY

I'm fairly confident that chrome or wow are culprits, but not entirely sure. I've collected 4 mini dumps, which I hope will help (attached).

I've ran a Windows memory diagnostic which came back clean. I'm using an 840 Evo SSD which I've confirmed has the latest firmware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: had to update my attachment, but computer crashed haha, it's up and good to go now!

Hello,

I have done two re-formats on my computer attempting to get rid of this blue screen error, but it keeps coming back (almost instantly). I think it usually happens when I watch netflix and close the computer without shutting down first; but it has happened a few times when I wasn't previously watching netflix.

It only occurs when I'm starting the computer, but not every time.

The last time it happened, I kept ignoring the blue screen and it eventually got to the point where I wasn't able to use the computer (couldn't save files, wouldn't connect to internet, etc.).

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. I attached my dump files, but to be perfectly honest, I don't know anything about fixing computers. So please baby step me through fixing it if you can

Thank you so much,
Shannon

Welcome aboard.

► You have two antivirus programs installed. AVG and McAfee. Your crash is directly blaming AVG.

Code:
fffff880`07c3c7c8 fffff880`06215796Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsdrivera.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avgidsdrivera.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for avgidsdrivera.sys
avgidsdrivera+0x15796
It is Driver Reference Table - avgidsdrivera.sys.

So you must to uninstall AVG. At the same time, McAfee is a higher level crap, and a very well known problem causer. Uninstall McAfee too. For best protection, use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows, with Free MBAM.

► Also, Free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept the restart.
► What I have also noticed, you have some old device drivers installed.

ATI Display Driver:

Code:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys (8.1.1.921, 5.76 MB (6,037,504 bytes), 8/18/2009 6:48 AM)
Realtek ethernet driver:

Code:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\rt64win7.sys (7.13.112.2010, 317.53 KB (325,152 bytes), 10/25/2011 2:05 AM)
If possible, try to update those, too.

Let us know the results.

about 40 minutes into the movie the stream started getting a little out of sync and then my computer turned off. Upon start up it then sat in the screen almost waiting for my profile to come up. I manually shut it down and then started it again. I'm getting so tired of this as win 7 was working great for about 4 weeks before I started trying to install drivers for my graphics card. I had been trying to put more software on but after the last crash I literally only did that one driver and I'm still having problems.

Hi

I'm new here. I was hoping someone could help diagnose my BSOD issues.

I upgraded my video card to a MSI Radeon R9 390 recently. But my Motherboard is a Gigabyte Model: GA-870A-UD3.
It is running on PCI-e 2.0 rather than 3.0 but I don't know how to verify that this is what is causing the BSOD.

I am also running two types of RAM in my computer:
Corsair 2x 2GB RAM
Kingston 2x 8GB 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11

I have a Corsair HX650 as a powersupply. I would've thought that this PSU is sufficient for the hardware that I'm running.

I play games such as GTA V, Starcraft II, Counter Strike: GO and it crashes at random times - sometimes even in the menu screen.

Look forward to hearing back form you and telling me what type of tests I can do to try and find the root cause.

Thank you all in advance!

Hello, this is a very recent problem (started less then a week ago) that Ive been having on a custom build pc that has been running flawlessly for years, the only recent hardware change was a new GPU around february.

I started getting BSOD, mostly while playing FIFA or while watching netflix last week. Eventually I formatted and instaled windows 7 (ultimate 64 bit) again but the error persisted even on the new format, eventually I started getting BSOD on boot and even on safe mode (diferent bsod errors: irql, memory management and others) so I RE formatted and installed the least amount of things possible and that ran flawlessly for two days (I played lots of games, watched lots of netflix to test it and it seemed fine) I thought the problem was fixed.

Today I was playing FIFA 15 and I got a new BSOD (IRQL LESS NOT EQUAL). Throughout this whole process I have made sure I have the latest GPU drivers, I installed new motherboard drivers on this format, I ran mem test 86 and the windows memory diagnostic and both of them showed me no errors. I am completely stumped.

BUILD:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 945
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 950
Mother: ASUS m4a79xtd
4 GB RAM

I have attached the dump file and the DM log collector, thanks in advance for any help!

Hello all. First time posting on these forums, as I haven't really had a need to inquire about computer problems till more recently.

I was watching Netflix last night, when I suddenly lost access to all windows functionality. The show continued to play for about a minute, before the computer went to the BSoD. I have not used Netflix at all since the incident, but I've also not seen the error again. Hopefully this may narrow things down a bit.

I had another incident where my computer froze up while watching Netflix. I was able to ctrl+alt+dlt, but attempting to open task manager did nothing. Had to hard-resent, but no BSoD.

I've attached the zipped crash information. I was unable to save a performance monitoring file as an html doc for some reason, so I hope this is suitable. Any insight would be great. Thanks all!

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi All!

So I am reaching out to all you wonderful people in hopes that I'll be able to recover my system without having to send it back to HP (terrible, terrible service!)

In short, I bought a system that was a demo system. I just needed it for school (Adobe Creative Suite, pretty much) and figured that it had sturdy-looking specs--because it was open-box, it was under 400 with tax!

However, from the first week on, it crashed repeatedly at random times. Bringing it back, they told me it was probably bad ram (I bought it with 3 x 2GB) and was advised to run the system on one stick at a time to find and eliminate the problem RAM. I did so, and found one that crashed consistently, and removed it. Everything was fine from then on.

Fast-forward three or so months to now. This thing crashes every day! (I am back to using a 6 year old Vaio as it is more reliable) I know I may just be experiencing a bad case of buyer's remorse, but I do need a stable computer, so I would like to sort out this one's problems.

I initially thought it may be video card related--I am no troubleshooter, but oftentimes when it crashes, there are little random lines drawn on a frozen screen, or just a bunch of random lines and colors (this happens WITHOUT a BSOD, usually--the computer will just shut off). When a BSOD does occur, it usually happens when watching something online (strangely, does not happen when playing video from my hard drive). Also, the screen saver triggers it sometimes.

However, I a... Read more
