Solved: Belkin N+ wireless modem router keeps on dropping connection

Q: Solved: Belkin N+ wireless modem router keeps on dropping connection

Hi all,
My dad recently brought a Belkin N+ wireless modem router for my parents home and asked me to set it up for him (as he is not very tech-savy). I set the router up with no problems whilst the rents were away in Malta on holiday and had no problems for about 4 days.

When they arrived back the internet was still fine until the next day when for no apparent reason the connection dropped and i had to power cycle it to make it work again. Now at least once a say the router will drop the connection and i have no idea why. I have tried every logical combination of settings and i cannot stop it from dropping the connection.

I've called up Belkin tech support but they were useless and told me to try everything I have already tried which is:

Static IP.
Fixed DNS.
Power cycling.
Firmware update.
Checking the log file.
Restoring defaults.
Turning the firewall off.
Adding MAC addresses of the relevant computers to the routers "safe" list.
Port forwarding ...

And the list goes on.

All i can think of now is to call BT and post my Router settings here (these are the most stable settings i've found so far).
Can someone please check out these settings and make sure i haven't done somethign incredibly stupid? I am a software engineering student and fairly confident of my abilities but it would be nice to have another opinion (not Belkins).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello all,

I have a Belkin N Wireless Router with a model number of F5D8233-4v3. My internet service provider's solution is really weird (to me, at least), I live in an apartment building where we don't get cable modems, instead I plug an Ethernet cable in the wall and get internet this way. I have my Belkin connected this way.

Then, I have two desktop computers, both with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 connected through wireless to the router. These computers have identical hardware, and mostly identical software. They both have TP LINK N Wireless network cards.

The reason I'm posting is because my router is behaving amiss. The way I have it plugged in right now:

x = internet through Ethernet cable

[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ x ]
LAN 1 - 4 INTERNET

(the LAN ones are empty while I have the Ethernet cable from the wall plugged in the internet socket)

Plugged in this way, the router drops my connection when:

1. I'm downloading something at full speed and attempting to watch something through YouTube (particularly, but gaming + downloading also drop the connection). This way what ends up happening is that the router's modem light goes orange (from blue) and starts blinking, and the internet light goes off. The only way to restore it is by resetting the router or giving it 10-30 minutes to recover on its own. This is not my primary concern, but it had to be mentioned and a fix for it would also be nice. When I unplug the router and plug a laptop in right after it ... Read more

A:Solved: Router Dropping Connection (Belkin N-F5D8233-4v3)

With on computer connected directly to the apartment connection, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

A:Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless-G Router WHAT IS ITS MAX INTERNET CONNECTION SPEED

There THe belkin modem/gateway shouldnt limit your speed capabilities. You should be able to find the speed listed inside the modem's status page. To do this..
Click start>run>In run type CMD
In the black window type IPCONFIG and then enter. Note down your default gateway.
Open a browser window and enter the gateway's address into it. Click go
This should take you to your gateways graphical user interface.
Look for a status tab or see if it lists connection speeds on the general page.

Also you can test speeds at different sites. Google search broadband speed test and choose 1 of the millions of sites

Hi, I've got a HP Media Vault mv2010 and it connected to a Belkin N1 Wireless Router via Ethernet. I can't seem to access the Media Vault through Wireless. Although I can the Web Based Configuration.
the IP for my NAS is 192.168.2.5. I type in \\192.168.2.5\. I get "\\192.168.2.5\ The Network Adress was not found"

I've Tried pinging it with cmd. and i get a response =D. but not being able to access the folders really bug me.

I Tried it with all the default settings in The Web-Based config. but it didnt work. so thats when i manually configured it an IP address. i also changed the domain name from MSHOME to MOWGLI, and its now in a user based setup. I can access the Files from the PC the wireless router is connected to, but the speed is really slow (only 100Mbps compared to 270Mbps)

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I've trawled the net for ages but have found nothing. I believe I have a unique situation here and would love some help from some net savvy people. I have strong computing skills, but keep away from networks if possible. Hope someone here can help, would really appreciate it.

Here's my current setup:
- HP Pavillion Laptop with Windows 7
- Receiving internet from a USB connected wireless modem (Huawei model E160E)
It all works well, internet is fine, I'm happy.

Why I want to share this network connection:
I have a couple of iphones and a Nintendo Wii and we would like to connect them to the the laptops internet connection.

Other things I've tried first:
I DO understand "Connectify" is out there and have tried it but it just fails every time I've tried it, the devices that try to connect all just sit there trying to connect and time out.

My possible solution found:
So what I found deep in my cupboards is a Belkin N Wireless Modem Router (Model F5D8633-4). It's a relic from my days of having an ADSL connection. This was back in the days when I used to have a physical phone line. Ahh they were the days, a physical connection to my house. Imagine that!

What I intend to do with the the Belkin relic:
I want to still receive the connection to my windows 7 laptop as I currently do, but have that connection shared over the belkin wireless modem router so that the nintendo wii and iphones can then co... Read more

You enable Internet Connection Sharing on the internet connection and configure the Belkin as follows.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers... Read more

Afternoon,

I have a Linksys Wireless B router which is located in my basement. I have one dell computer hooked to the internet via ethernet cable. I have a another computer located on the main floor accessing the internet via wireless B adapter card. My third computer is located upstairs and is hooked by a wireless G adapter. Hooking up my encrpyted secured network was successful but I have a constant problem.

The constant problem that I run into is live streaming video, music etc. The moment I want to view a video clip the internet crashes. This is also true for the computer connected via ethernet cable. It's almost as if when any computer connected to the router accesses trailer clips or live streaming the router automatically shuts down my connection. I have tried adjusting the router settings but have come up short to fix the problem. Once the wireless drop occurs, I simply just reboot the router and everything works just as it used to until someone views live streaming. Is there an option in the router settings (I have read through the manual 2x) to fix this error. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Ok about ten days my internet began acting very strangely, every ten minutes or so anything hooked up to my wireless network would be disconected from the internet, then a minute or two later it would be back up and running.

Configuration:
DSL connection goes from wall to a westell modem. From the modem it goes directly into my Belkin G plus MIMO wireless router via ethernet cord, then the internet goes from my router to my one wired computer.

Westell modem: all lights are green. The ethernet light and the activity light blink every once in a while. But the DSL and Internet stay solid green.

Belkin Router: Wireless light blinks 1-2 times a second, wired computer light blinks 1-2 times a second, Phone light occasionally blinks 3-4 plus a second, and the Internet light blinks constantly at a very high speed. It is the internet light that is bothering me.
It seems as though the problem is within the router or possibly the ethernet cords. Also, the router is still emmiting wireless signall even when it stops giving out internet signal. In other words during the time I get kicked off my devices can still "see" the router.

I have had this router for two to three years and eveything has always worked fine, I have checked all the settings and nothing has been changed. So it's not my wireless phones, or an unplugged cable, or my settings not matching my ISP's settings.

There was a bigstorm that came through and basically killed our phone lines about 2 we... Read more

I have just bought a Belkin N Wireless Modem Router F5D8636uk4A (to replace a faithful older Belkin wireless unit which finally died the other day). I have it connected to one laptoprunning Vista and another XP.

The connection to the router is fine. However, quite regularly, I am unable to connect to webpages even though the connection to the router is still there and I can, for eg, send and receive email. This then necessitates a restart of the router which clears the problem till the next time.

I have had three online chats with Belkin who have recommended restoring the router to factory condition and then restarting (which I have done). Their final suggestion was that the router was faulty. It may be but I suspect that there is some simple setting which needs to be tweaked.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in advance!

I realise now after buying the router that it is a Cable/DSL router and doesn't work with my Speedtouch 330 modem.

If I buy a new modem with an RJ45 port I think that it will work although I am not entirely sure.

What should I do?

Try resetting the modem, by disconnecting the power jack, from the modem (you can have your computers on while doing this), leave it disconnected, for about a minute, then plug it back in, and let it reset itself.

hello all ... i have just today purchased the above modem/router .. probelem is i just cant get it working or recognised by my PC ... even odder was that when i checked my network connections there is no Local Area Connection listed there

In order to connect the modem/router the instructions say to open internet explorer and go to 192.168.2.1 and follow the intructions on screen, but i cant do this as it simply tries to open my old ADSL Connection and get on the internet that way -which icant as it is disconnected due to the new one being plugged in - whereas it should just automatically go to the welcome page for the installation of this modem. I did try on my laptop and initially it found the unsecure connection but then didnt again after that when i tried to set it up primarily on my laptop ... it just kept losing the connection and finding otehr secured connections in the area.

I am at my wits end with this one ... I have no idea what has happened to my ethernet controller on PC(it's not there in my network connections) and it's just not recognising the Belkin modem no matter what i do. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what i need to do? Any help would be much obliged ... and if any more info needed then dont hesitate to ask....

well check and make sure your network security settings are all right and in place. Also, check the wireless settings on the laptop and make sure it is always set to connect your "home" network or wherever the network may be located. You might try resetting the settings to default also and try connecting everything again. Keep in mind you will probably have to re-enter any custom settings such as network name, passphrase for the network and also set up the proper security settings. I cant help you with the security settings however as i do not know how the belkin routers are set up.Post back here if needed.

I have a motorola surfboard cable modem from time warner connected to Linksys WRT54G router, with one wired connection to the PC and a wireless connection to a laptop.

The connection to the internet is dropped every couple of hours from both computers and requires me to unplug the cable modem and then the router and then plug them back in before it will work again.

When the connection does drop, I cannot even access the router setup (192.168.1.1) from the PC. Also, this problem did not seem to happen when I tried connecting the PC right to the cable modem without the use of the router. This is why I think it is the router.

I tried setting the router to clone MAC address, and setting the MTU to 1400, but I am still having the same problem. Does anyone have other suggestions about what else there is to do?

First things we normally recommend are:
Download the latest firmware for your router.
Reset your router to it's default config by holding in the reset button for at least 15 seconds.

Hello,

I've been trying to get my Speedstream 5100 (A?) modem, running SBC DSL, to work with a Belkin wireless g router I just bought. The DSL is connecting through PPPoE/Enternet 300. I called Belkin's tech support and they told me to download firmware--that might not exist!--for the modem. I don't know what's wrong with the configs at all. Plugging the modem directly into computer works, plugging through router doesn't. Not much to go off, but does anyone have suggestions?

Thank u,

I wonder if someone could help with a networking issue as I'm a bit of a doughnut with these things to say the least lol.
My Daughter recently got a Belkin router with build-in asdl modem and a Dell lap top. Now we actually access the Internet via an NTL broadband cable modem not via an Asdl connection but she has still been able to access the internet ok via the wireless card in her laptop with the router plugged into the Ntl cable modem. The problem is I purchased a Belkin wireless adaptor for our one year old desktop pc and it picks up the wireless network with a very good signal but it just cannot connect to the internet, I just get the stock dns error page (although my daughter swears it did connect for 15 minutes on Sunday). I've checked the Ipconfig and that seems to be to the correct address as stated in other postings on here.

The thing is is there likely to be a problem with my router's config or is the problem that the router has a Asdl modem we are trying to bypass (although it doesn't seem a problem with the laptop) ? I don't want to have to send the router back if I don't have to obviously will if it comes to that . Any help would be appreciated.

A:Belkin Wireless router with built-in Asdl modem

The router isn't that good as you're getting those DNS errors. I was getting those too. The Router makes a good Access Point or a small SPI/NAT Hardware Firewall. That's about it. There are other choices out ther that's better than the Belkin.

Avoid

Belkin 1 ant wireless 54G dsl/cable router
Belkin 2 ants wireless 54G Plus with high speed 125mbp dsl/cable router

Both are slow and give dns errors... You could try to reset them and maybe lucky to get them to work, but they hang, get so hot they crash an etc. A lot of reboots also.

The day I bought the N1 Vision, I also bought myself a Minitar 802.11b/g/n* Wireless LAN PCI Card (Model: MWNPC-1). I set up the new Modem and the Network Card, only to find that everytime the Network Card connects to the new Modem it says "Limited, Or No Connectivity.". Also I am running Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, Service Pack 2, 32-Bit.

try to run setup wizard cd that came with the router on both computers. Then you need to configure your router http://setup.belkin.com/guide.html

Then you need to write down the configurations. So you can connect to the network. Make sure its secure though..If you still have problems you still might be too far away...its hard to go through walls sometimes and the distance can be a issue. Might want to make sure also that your router and your wireless card can work with one another..

Hi and welcome to TSG:
Two things we generally suggest to try first in connection issues:
Change the wireless channel being used(do this through the router's admin page).Channels 1/6/11 in US are preferred.
Make sure that you have the latest firmware update for the router.Perhaps the Belkin Techs already checked that, but it needs to be confirmed.
These two things fix a great many of the wireless connection issues that we see here.So try these first and see if the situation changes in any way.

Hello!

I have D-Link DSL 320T ADSL Modem and Belkin N+ Wireless Router.
The modem works great on its own connected to the network card in my laptop.
The problem starts when I connect it to the router (doesn't matter wired or wireless connection). The internet works but slower and sort of 'snaps' every few seconds. To give you an example, when I use skype the sound and picture freezes every few seconds or when I click on different websites in my browser, every few seconds I get the 'not connected to the interent' screen - I have to refresh and it loads fine.
All those problems dissapear when I connect the modem to the network card of my laptop.
I tried few things and this is what I found out:
1. When I switch the router into Access Point mode it works great (wired and wireless) as if it the modem was connected straight to my laptop - no snaps, skype works great.
2. It doesn't help when I turn the firewall off in the router
3. It doesn't help when the QoS option is enabled
4. The router is fine as it works great with cable modem

I think maybe there is something wrong because of DHCP option enabled in both devices.

Here is my ADSL Modem Config
DHCP ON
Starting IP 192.168.1.2
Ending IP 192.168.1.254
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Here is my router config

Starting IP 192.168.2.2
Ending IP 192.168.2.100

I recently bought a Nintendo DS for online gaming, and so when I couldn't get it online (Error code 52100, Nintendo's site not helping) I tried everything. Last week, I typed my own IP into IE and got my router page, then seen "Turn into Access Point" or something meaning change, and then it asked me to type a ???.???.???.??? style number into the IP box on that page. So I did and then it came up loading in top right hand corner. I waited and nothing so I F5'd it, then I lost my connection.

Then for a week I could only get internet (Wired) on my Xbox and neither Wireless nor Wired on anything else. But a few days ago, I read the customer support (MS, the one preloaded on the computers) and it said something about changing your IP settings, so I followed those steps and found my computer only wanted to use the DNS ___.___.___.___ the underscores being blanks. So I made it revert to what it should be with a reset button or whatever it was and now I get my Wired connection back on my Laptop.

But still when I hooked everything back up, no internet or network light on my wireless router.

Sorry for blabbing, but I really need it and after also recently buying an iPod Touch, really would like my Wi-Fi back.

Thanks,
Jameseh

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

I am having the exact problem (krustyzworld) had. I have an ATT 2701 2 wire modem/router that drops off when I use my wireless laptop, it works fine when I use a Ethernet cable connection. I have tried a second ATT 2701 with the same results. The only difference between (krustyzworld) and myself is I have the correct power source and my power light don't change (it stays on steady). What happens to me is that first the internet light goes out than the green dsl light goes flashing red, in less than a minute everthing returns to normal until the next random drop off.

I'm a computer novice (I can USE them, but anything else is foreign) trying to get my home PC and laptop networked and using the same internet connection. My DSL modem is outside of the apartment complex, and the old configuration was an ISP-provided router connected to the wall jack and then to my PC. I bought a wireless linksys router with the intention of having the PC connected to it by cable and bought a wireless network card for the laptop. The CD that came with the router kept detecting a cable connection, but we have DSL, so I had to call tech support. After several hours on tech support with linksys, the current cable route is: Wall to old router. Old router to Port 1 of wireless router. Port 2 of wireless router to PC. She also had me pinging things and configuring things and disabling something...This works, and I was happy. The laptop works great, no problems. The PC, however, drops the internet connection every so often (could be 5 minutes, could be half an hour), no consistency when it happens. Sometimes I have to restart, sometimes I have to restart and power cycle the routers, sometimes I just have to wait a little while....very frustrating. Suggestions for things to try? Please be as specific as possible, I don't want to inadvertently make it worse.

I haven't been able to set up the network between the two yet because of the internet issues, but if anybody has suggestions for that too...I appreciate any help.

A:New wireless router install: PC keeps dropping DSL connection

Update on problem - more details

My husband has been trying different things to bring the internet connection back up, and it turns out that the ethernet cable that goes from the PC CPU to the new wireless router Port 2 - unplugging it from the router and plugging it back in works to bring the internet back up everytime it fails....so I need suggestions on how to fix settings or something to keep from having to do that. It seems to me, in layman's terms, that the computer stops looking for a connection, so when we disconnect and reconnect, it goes "hey, there it is"....how do I get it to always be looking for the connection? Is this even really my problem?

I have a linksys WMP54G.

For seemingly no reason, every now and then I will lose my connection to the router. The icon in my systray will say "wireless connection unavailable" for a few seconds to a few minutes and then it'll tell me I can connect back to the network.

After it connects again, it drops in a few minutes. Very frustrating. I upgraded the firmware and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

Hi, I have recently experinced some issues with my network were for no obvious reason i have been unable to access the internet on either of the 2 pcs connected this network( they are both running XP).

I have since managed to factory reset the Belkin router (Model F5D7632-4)and after disabling Zonealarm secruity suite on 1 of the PC's i have been able to connect it back to the network and gain access to the internet. However i can not get the second PC to connect back to the internet. I can see this machines ip address in the Router configuartion page and the PC itself seems to connect to the network since it has a ip adddress and other details.

I have tried disabeling firewalls and other software to see if this was interfering with the connection but it doesnt seem to have helped. Also i have tried typing ipconfig in the cmd prompt but i get an error message 'IPCONFIG is not recognized as an internal or external command'

I am really stuck as to what to try next so any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Hi,
I have recently installed a Belkin N wireless USB adapter onto my dads desktop computer (windows XP) so he can access the internet.

The computer, up until recently has been upstairs, and wired directly into the router (BTBusiness Hub), which had worked fine.

However, the computer has been moved and the connection continuously keeps getting lost now it relies on a wireless connection- Literally 2 or 3 times a minute.

I am confident that the wireless adapter has been installed correctly as it always shows a good signal.

2 other laptops use a wireless connection with no problems at all - including from the same location as my dads computer.

It's incredibly frustrating as simply checking emails is a tiresome task!!
Help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A:Belkin N Wireless USB keeps losing connection with router.

I have never been a fan of Belkin but assuming the USB adapter is working ok try logging onto the router and change the wireless channel to 1 or 6 or 11. If its 6 try on of the other 2 channels.

theory being wireless interference on the current channel being used?

Your dads PC is not next to a cordless phone or microwave etc,etc as these devices interfere with wireless signals. Interference can be from these types of device or a neighbour with a wireless router on the same channel as yours.
Good luck!

I've tried phoning the Belkin support line but not getting anywhere with them. The internet connects OK when using my wired modem.

I'm using a lap top Widows vista operating system and Norton security.

Any help would be really great as I don't really know where to go from here, I've no real knowledge of all things pc so any step by step answers would be great

Ok, We have had this router for a while now and recently, well since a few months, the router occasionally seems to drop connection. Here's a picture of the router where the connection is dropped.

There is this on the router.

PWR
LAN
WLAN
DSL
INTERNET

PWR is always lit obviously, that shows it's turned on. LAN has nothing lit because we are just using wireless to it, WLAN is lit cause of this, I'm not sure what DSL is but it must be good that it's lit and you can see in the image that Internet is not Lit. It should be.

When it isn't lit everything disocnnects including my Xbox 360 Live and Computer Internets. When trying to access the internet i get Cfgzfail or something like that.

This has been happening a couple of times daily lately and is a huge annoyance. It goes off for about 20-30 seconds and then comes back it on. It's as if the router keeps turning it's self on and off.

We thought it may be a dodgy wire and so we moved the router into the room with the phone in so there was no extra wire but this hasn't fixed the problem. We have phoned up our ISP a few times aswell but they say the problem isn't at their end and everything is up and running.

What can we do to fix this....an obvious solution would be to get another router but is there anything we can do with this Zyxel?

Thanks.

I have just installed a BelkinF5D7634-4A-H wireless router and cannot get a wireless connection with WPA2/PSK security. I could get this with my old router (Netgear). The laptop will connect wirelessly to the router, but not the internet, although the internet light is lit on the router. My neighbours can connect (when I entered the password) so this seems to be some sort of communication problem between my laptop and the internet or the router. I can get a wireless connection with WEP but do not want to use this as it is less secure. Currently I have disabled wireless and am using a wired connection. I have Vista Home operating system and, having searched the internet, this seems to be a common problem. However, I have not found a solution I can understand - I have very limited experience in this area. Can anyone help talk me through how to set this up in very simple terms?

am a newbie.... please help.
have configured a belkin wireless router (f5d6231-4) with ssid, 128-bit encryption. with the winxp box physically hooked up to the router, everything is dandy: can ping router, and am getting a dynamic ip address from it.

however, with my laptop (win2k) using a cisco 350 lan adapter, i am unable to get an ip address. the aironet client utility states that it is associated with the mac id of the router, am seeing the signal strength fine, have set zone alarm to accept router's mac id as well, configured the aironet client to the same ssid, encryption settings as the router preferences... am getting a 169.254 ip.

belkin is set such that mac address filtering has the laptop's mac id so i don't think that is the problem.... i've even tried different channels 11 and 6, but still the same results....

both boxes have tcp/ip set such that they automatically obtain ip addresses and dns server addresses.

i've used an cat5e cable on the laptop and all is dandy. just when i try to use the cisco card that all attempts fail in getting an ip address issued....

what am i doing wrong??? please advise....

Hello,
I'm not much of a tech savvy guy so bare with me here, I'm currently having an issue with my router. I have a belkin n450 DB wireless router (model f9k1105v1) that has been having issues resulting in a "no internet connection". after some research on this topic, I didn't find much except that my modem (which is an Comcast arris modem) might not be able to connect to the routers settings. I have tried everything from resetting my Belkin router and unplugging everything, and still no result! - may I add this router is a solid orange colour when. it should be a solid blue - I am aware that resetting the router sets it back to factory default settings. So I guess my initial question being, since I have little experience with this situation, what steps can I take that are a bit easy for a person like me to comprehend? Thank you for your time and knowledge in advance! NOTE- I've had this issue before in the past and I solved the situation from some tweaking with the cords and it worked just fine, except I had to use the default password for the router. Although now tweaking with the cords isn't a solution.

Just got Road Runner installed today. The guy used my old AT&T modem Electrical cord/adapter to power the Surfboard new modem is that all good? Or is he suppose to provide me a new one?

I am trying to connect my Modem to the my wireless Belkin Router but whenever I try to, the Belkin router flashes a orange light for Modem.... I tried running the Setup CD but I cannot get past the Username and Password. RoadRunner did not provide me with it.

I tried resetting the router and modem but that will not work. The internet works great when it is plugged in from Modem to Desktop, but it will not
through the Router. Can anyone help?

EDIT: Sorry. I just found out that the Modem that Road Runner gave me (Motorola) was Wireless.. Does this mean I don't need a router? This is what I have but without the antenna on it: http://www.roadrunneroffers.com/popup/pop_wireless_modem_info/

...before I trash it!

Hi folks!

I've just bought a Belkin ADSL Modem with High Speed Wireless G-router. The networking bit ( = filesharing ) to my other PC = no probs, using the same company's wireless USB adapter, but I can NOT get it to connect to my Tiscali Internet account, and I'm on the point of putting it through the window.

On the grounds that I think new forum users like me should search to see if the question has already been asked/answered before, I did a search and did see that a chap called Diamond Geez had a very similar problem in July, but sadly I've not been able to get the solution offered to him to work in my case.

The scenario is that I've put my user-name and password in the appropriate boxes on the router's web-based set-up screen, and dispite the fact it's home page confirms the correct upstream/downstream figures and both modem-lights are illuminated green on the front of the modem/router, I cannot get it to connect, always showing "NO connection" in red at the top of the screen.

I've tried various options such as alternating the connection-type from PPPoE to PPPoA (and back again), I've tried LLC and VC/MUX encapsulation, all to no avail.

I have DHCP Server enabled on the LAN setup, I have DNS ticked as "Automatic from ISP"...I'm coming to the end of my thether!

Any geniuses any ideas before I set fire to the bloody thing?

Really, REALLY appreciated!
John

Belkin G wireless router 2.4ghz-802.11g
Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card

I am having an odd problem with the wireless capability of my wireless router. When I first got my router I used the Software included but that did not work so I set up my network manually. For several months everything was working perfectly and both physical and wireless connections to the router were working. Recently the wireless capability of the router has stopped working, however it still emits a strong signal and functions perfectly as a non-wireless router.

The problem my laptop encounter when it is try to connect is that the connection status constantly displays "Authenticating". I have tried to rebuild the network, no effect. Have clicked on the repair button, it sits indefinilty on the step "renewing IP address". I have tried physically entering my IP address, no effect. I am positive the problem is not my laptop wireless card because it still fuctions perfectly on all other networks.

Is this a networking problem or is it just time to get a new router?

Hi folks, would greatly appreciate any help and advice on the following problem that's been happening over the last few months...

I have a Dell Dimension 9200 running Windows XP and use a Buffalo WBMR-G54 Wireless Router to connect to the internet. I also connect wirelessly with a Dell Latitude laptop and an iPhone.

What's been happening on the desktop computer is a loss of connection for 30 seconds at a time or so with the message 'Local Area Connection (a network cable is unplugged)'.

Yet while my desktop is disconnected my other devices are using the wireless connection without a break so it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with my broadband provider.

The Network Connection properties are:
Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection
PCI bus 0, device 25, function 0
Link speed: 10Mbps/Full Duplex
Driver Version: 9.4.21.0

It seems to be happening much more frequently in the evenings than during the day, especially when using Skype.

Any pointers and help would be great, let me know if you need any more info.

Many thanks

Good Day

My router at work is working fine, at least for LANing...as for its connection to the internet, it keeps dropping the connection.

The router will be connected to the internet for say an hour or 2, sometimes more, and then it drops the connection. Usually a router restart(either from the web interface or by pressing the on/off button) fixes it, but only for a while.

What could the problem be? ISP?

Is there anything else I can do from my side to fix this problem?

Thank you

So basically, for the last 2 days, every couple of hours my router just stops letting me connect to internet. After that, I have to either reboot the router, or simply disconnect the cable from the WAN (modem to router) port and plug it back in. After that everything works great for the next few hours.
Now I do have 2 TP-Link routers connected via LAN ports, so maybe that would be an issue, but I've had this setup for over a year now, and haven't had similar issues. I also haven't changed any settings lately.

Any ideas what could be wrong?
