T460P NVMe PCIe Drive Upgrade???

Q: T460P NVMe PCIe Drive Upgrade???

Hello all, is it possible to upgrade, after market of course, to a 1T NVMe PCIe SSD? This is a novice question, but wanted to ask, as some friends are pushing me towards T460S because of this drive availability. Would not all I need is an adapter and would that, along with the NVMe PCIe drive fit, within the casing? Or is it more technologially involved than that, like bios, space and other such? Also, the T460P has 4g RAM soldered in, yet one can upgrade to 32g involving 2 - 16g sticks, this does mean that the 4g is diabled with the 2 sticks installed, correct? TIA - bo1953

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,My understanding is that both the T460p and T470p support PCIe 3.0 x2 via their SATAe SSD connector. The T470p has an adapter on which an M2 2280 PCIe NVMe drive can be connected and get speeds higher than SATA.  The T460p on the other hand only has this one Toshiba SATAe drive to improve on SATA speeds, and that is limited to 256GB, it is rare and cancels the WAN port for further storage. So, can the adapter from the T470p be used in the T460p? This would solve all problems for the T460p, higher speed and good capacity. Thanks

Hi, otheosyou wrote:> it ... cancels the WAN port for further storage.the combo m.2 wwan/ssd slot isn't assocoiated with main 2.5" slot for HDD/SSD, it's a separate slot. This combo slot supports m.2 SSD SATA III 22x42 mm in size only, not a PCIe one.I haven't seen the prooves that the bracket/adapter for m.2 PCIe SSD 2280 for T470p (there isn't the one for 2.5" PCIe SSD in T470p parts list) is compatible with T460p.

Dear members, Hello, I am a user of T460p (20FW*).Currently, I am planning to upgrade the storage on my laptop. But there is an issue on specifying the suitable type of storage. My device is equipped with the Toshiba NVMe drive named THNSF5256GCJ7, which looks like a standard 7mm SATA3 SSD (for my knowledge, it is a very weird combination). Though  I searched the appropriate replacement for that model in both shape and communication interface, there seems no model with such specs.  Seeing the slot shape, I think it would be okay to set a SATA3 interface SSD, however, the word 'NVMe' makes me completely confused.  Does anyone know what model will be appropriate for my T460p?For your understanding, I attached the screen capture of HWINFO64 summary. Many thanks in advance.

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. Hi
I would like to upgrade the HD space in my T460p which comes with an 256GB SSD.
I purchased Samsung 950 PRO m.2 SSD.
Upon disassembling the laptop I realized that there is no place to install the NVME hard drive.
A technicial friend suggested I remove the mobile modem that occupies the PCIe slot and install the drive there, however the drive is longer than the modem and there is no way to bolt it onto the motherboard.
Am I missing something? Is there an empty PCIe slot I can use to install the additional storage?
Thanks in advance.

I ordered a customized HP Omen laptop. However, I did not add m.2 to it because I thought I could put a better one inside.During customization, I saw NVMe m.2 as an option. Does this mean HP Omen m.2 socket support NVMe? I'm looking to add either a Samsung 950 Pro Series PCIe NVMe or HyperX Predator PCIe. At the very least, I'll add a SATA m.2 to it. I know NVMe is the fastest but it is very expensive.  If you could also explain me the differences between SATA m.2, PCIe m.2 and NVMe m.2, I'd appreciate it.

Hi All,I'm about to purchase an X1 Carbon. A long time Lenovo user and a big fan.I have read conflicting articles regarding which hard drive may be the best option (with best referring to speed!). Some people have said that the PCIe-NVMe can run excruciatingly hot and actually bottleneck the whole computer whilst others have said it's blisteringly fast and makes a huge difference.I'm keen to know if:1) It makes any noticable difference to speed compared to the SATA?2) If any of you have had any heat issues with it?3) If, in your opinion, it is worth the extra money? My use case for the laptop will be heavy data analysis in Excel and SpotFire (sometimes Access) as well as playing the occasional game. I'm opting to go for the highest end X1 Carbon (i7-6600U and 16GB of Ram) so weighing on my mind is the benefit of the PCIe-NVMe.Thanks in advance.

It's the Samsung 950 PRO with the PCIe connection and NVMe support.

But not the less funny part, I only hit about 1000Mb/s reading while it should be around 2500Mb/s.Now samsung has a special NVME driver but that states no NVME drive is installed. Also samsung magician does not detect the drive correctly. The name is all weird and it has 0Gb storage.

1. Quite many user reviews complain about high-frequency noise coming from mobo or PSU unit. Can you confirm?
2. Would you know if any available Dell SSD option is actually NVMe?
Also, the trouble is, you have to buy M.2 SSD from Dell in order to get 6cell battery.

Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver 1.4.7.17.
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

So, initially this Dell came setup with a factory OS on the PCIE based NVME drive.
Recently we re-installed the OS, but the OS setup was not seeing the NVME drive, yet, Bios was reporting it. So we setup the OS on an EVO SSD. We then cloned it over to the NVME after realizing Windows was detecting its presence. Everything worked well, we removed the Samsung Evo and the PC had used the NVME based cloned OS for a few days, but now it decided to lose track of the NVME and only boots into start up repair. Nothing you do does anything; last known good config, restore(none created), chkdsk(doesn't find issues), SFC /Scannow doesn't run(Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation). I then noticed that startup repair fails with a Log file "D:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt.
Clearly the OS now thinks the secondary 2TB drive is now C. I can't help but wonder if this was the reason I couldn't natively install the OS onto the NVME in the first place. There must be some startup delay on the NVME where the order gets shuffled around. Yet, the NVME is still the first boot device in Bios. so nothing has changed there. Ran diags and both drives pass. I unplugged the secondary SATA-based 2TB drive and that at least causes the startup repair failure to end with "Log file C:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt"

Hi

I am confused. Very confused as a matter of fact.

I would like to upgrade my PC with a m.2 drive but do not want to buy the wrong one and waste my money.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte H97-D3H. It has a m.2 slot and the manual states that it has a Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA & PCIe SSD support. I note that the term NVME IS NOT present in the description. On Newegg web site, I note that some M.2 drives have the term NVME in the description and some others do not (only show PCIe x 4).

My question is simple:
Can I buy ANY M.2 drive whether the term NVME is present in the description or not ? If the PCIe support is the same for PCIe and NVME (assuming it is), why doesn't my manual shows NVME in the description (it only shows socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA & PCIe SSD support) ?

Can anyone shed some light ? Boy !! Boy !!! Am I ever confused...I want to make sure I do not buy an incompatible drive.

Thank You

Hey guys, i'm running out of space on my HP Omen 15-5010nr and i read something about the new Samsung 950 Pro and the Samsung SM 951 with either NVMe or AHCI. They both usually work on an PCIe 3.0 Connector with 4 Lanes (x4) and i just want to know if the HP Omen is able to handle that. Does anybody has a guess or already made some experience? Ps: Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Germany ;-)

Hello, I need to add a "Samsung 960 PRO Series - 1TB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD" on my Thinkpad. What is the P/N I need to install it? I think is the tray to insert the disc. THINKPAD P51 SIGNATURE EDITION - Intel Core i7 - 7700 HQ - CPU @2.80 GHz - 16 GB - Windows 10 - 64 bits
