I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook and the hinges are failing.  I have looked on the forum and this appears to be a recurring problem with this HP model.  The notebook is not used all that much and has never been dropped .  It appears the screws have stripped out and are missing on both sides of the computer.

It seems that there is a quality issue with hinges on the notebook computers.  My husband and I both have HP envy 17 and the hinges are crumbling.  Pieces are breaking off and some are falling into the computers.  My fan started making noise and had error issues related. Took computer apart to clean out small pieces of the hinge.  Working again but still crumbling. Our family has 5 notebook computers and all were HP.  Breaking hinges has now happened to 4 out of the 5 notebooks. Other than this issue we have been happy with HP but this is a big enough issue our HP loyalty is at stake. Our computers are not in warranty anymore but this seems to be a quality build issue.  Is HP doing anything to fix this? What can I do to extend the life of my notebook?  Can you send replacement hinges (even offer at low cost)  and a video upload on how to fix? Will you stand behind your product?

Laptop was purchased in 4/14 (2-3/4 yrs old) and is off warranty.  Both L/R hinges have become very loose with 1.5" of swing open "slop" and start of seam opening between silver keyboard top and plastic lower botom.  It is a TouchSmart model that has a almost non-existant use of touch input and been well proctected with minimal mobile use.  It is a A10, 8MB, 1GB HD unit with a great deal of additional potrential service. When "HP ENvy hinge problems" was Googled I was alarmed to hear about several user instances of HP Envy hinge issues have been noted. This is an obvious design flaw as the Envy models are intended to be thin and light premium models with TouchSmart input capability and mobile and therefore should have been designed for extensive TouchSmart input.  As a 25 year I.T. veteran with former roles in flield systems engineer management and traveling with laptops and after owning several HP laptops and equipment, I know that less than 3 years of light use is unacceptable HP quality. I wish to be contacted to discuss equitable options before this unit fails completely and is unusable.  I also wish to also know if there is true engineering fix to overcome the weak hinge issue or would a HP repair just kick the problem down the road. Thanks

I bought my HP Envy Touchsmart over 2 years ago.  I keep it by my chair at home and only used for personal use.  Several months ago, one hinge started breaking, now both are and now today the plastic on the bottom is trying to pull loose due to the hinge being broken.  It appears this is a very common problem with the HP laptops.  I have been a loyal HP customer with computers and printers, however I'm extremely disappointed that how careful I am with my computer, that it is broken.  I'm in fear that every time I open it up, it will be the last.  I'm looking forward to your help with this issue.

I am incredibly disappointed with HP; I purchased my computer just long enough for the warranty to expire before one of the hinges attching the screen to the keyboard snapped, something that has since made the computer difficult to close and, in general, to use. This is a problem that other users have had on other ENVY models, yet when I attempted to reach out to an HP representative via telephone, I was informed that I would be charged $229.99 for a repair. It is both disheartening and mind-boggling that a mechanical issue, very likely one that stems from me being sent a defective product since this was not the result of the computer ever being dropped, would cost me about 20% of the price of the computer to repair.

I have had my Envy M6 for a little over a year and is now out of warranty and of course now everything on it is not working. I took the laptop back to Best Buy where I bought it and told them the hinges on the laptop were broken and the computer is always freezing or won't even let me log on, and if it does it will freeze with in minutes. Geek Squad could only quote to fix the hinges and he said "I have no idea why it's freezing."  I tried calling HP support and of course they said before they could do anything they wanted to let me know they had to charge me for any information/support/fixes. Does anyone have any ideas on why it would be freezing and how much it would cost to get the hinges fixed?

It appears the hinge assembly for my PC has begun to push the case apart, as the top is aluminum and the bottom is plastic, This problem is getting unreasonable. I looked online to see if there was some fix and immediatly found that the problem is pervasive, I'm hoping that there is a way to repair this, because I don't want the case to come completely apart. But, I don't want it to get damaged further, I have always used this PC and it just has out of the blue Started popping apart in the back where the aluminum comes in contact with the hinges. Hopefully even though I am out of the warrenty by about a year there is some fix to this problem, because I have an HP home computer that has worked perfectly for years, while this laptop in less than 2 years the case just starts popping apart. I am about to enroll in college and need a working laptop. So if there is any way to easily fix this please tell me, and If it is fixable at all If any additional information is needed please just ask. I found a picture Of somone with the exact same hinge problem with the back of the case, having the exact same effect on my pc

This morning, I picked up my laptop to get started with my work day, and was greeted with what sounded like a bit of plastic bouncing around inside my fan (quite disconcerting).  When I took a closer look, it seemed that the casing around the left hinge of the screen had started to break apart and separate, which is where I imagine that piece of plastic in the fan originated. I can squeeze the casing back together, but it only lasts for a couple minutes before reseparating.Unfortunately, my laptop is outside the warranty provided, but I did see numerous similar complaints in this and other forums, so I was wondering a) why this known hinge issue wasn't a part of any recall, and b) what I can do to get it resolved? Being outside the warranty is obviously a bit disappointing, but is there perhaps a kit I can purchase to repair the issue myself before it gets worse, or am I out of luck, essentially? I'll attach a couple images in a moment to illustrate the issue.

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. My laptop just switches off after approximately 20-30 minutes of being on. This occurs both when the battery is in and when is has been removed. It is not POWERING DOWN, but rather just blanking out like all power has suddenly been switched off. Prior to this happening there had been no recent software updates and it had not been malfunctioning in any other way. Once it swiches off it will restart as normally as if it were being powered on for the first time after being switched off. There are no error messages coming up. I've checked the battery using hp diagnostic tool and this came up fine. Also as I've stated it happens even when the battery is not in place. Please could anyone shed any light on why this is happening. I've noticed that doing a Google search this has happened to others, but there is no reports on what the problem may be or indeed how to fix it. Thanks

Have you tried running a full component scan in the UEFI diagnostics? F2 as you power up. Cutting out like that is usually a bad hard drive, bad memory or a bad video chip on the motherboard. The diagnostics will test for any of those hardware issues.

Hi,  I've had issues with creaking noises from the the left hinge on my HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC machine and having opened the screen gently as I always do today, the hinge seems to be broken and plastic screw casing has fallen out.  I've checked the forums and this has been a defect issue for a lot of the machines and I'm having the exact same problem with overheating too. (I thought this was a genuine issue with most HP's as per the customer rep who sold me the laptop).  Sometimes the keyboard becomes way too hot in the top left corner to type. Please can someone inform me what I need to do. From what you have done it would point to the right speaker. Either the speaker or a connection to the speaker. If it's still in warranty contact the PC Vendor. If not, check with your PC vendor on documentation on how to take it apart so you can check the connections.

Here is my problem. I purchased a custom 17in Notebook with all the bells and whistles back in October. When it finally arrived its edges were sharp and hurt my fingers a little and I chalked it up to buying it sight unseen. otherwise it worked great. The design flaw I found is that I Have to open the screen from the corners which seemed odd to me but what the hell it was new and I figured the people at HP knew what they were doing. Normally there is a place on the top center of the screen in which I could open the Notebook without putting dagnal stress on the screen.   It seems that over time the lid gets weeker from opening at the corners and the Screens crack diagnally when you open it. Upon reporting the defect I am told that I have to pay for a screen and they won't listen that this is a defect in the style of case that they built. That even if I get it fixxed it will break again because of the defect.  Does anyone else have this problem.  The customer service in India was no help. I've had my HP Envy for almost 3 years now, and while I love it, I've had one hinge problem after another. A year ago, the left hinge grew loose on my laptop, to the point that opening it would cause loud cracking noises. Quickly afterwards the bottom part of the laptop started to separate and it became impossible to open the laptop up. I sent my laptop in for repairs and everything seemed to work well ... but now the right hinge is becoming loose and my laptop doesn't close completely when I shut it.  I've read that hinge problems seem to be a common defect for HP Envy owners, and I don't want to pay for more repairs if the same thing is going to happen again and again. Does support have any solutions?

EXACTLY like last time, breaking within months of the warranty expiring. This is a KNOWN issue on HPs end. These computers are $800-$1000, and they expect people to another couple hundred and make money off a faulty product?? SHAME ON YOU HP. Not just the laptops either. Have had 3 printers go after 13 to 15 months.I find it unacceptable!!!!!!!I neef this computer and it is basically useless now....yet again. Never buy HP again!!!

Sorry to sound like a broken record but here's some more broken M7 hinges. We purchased this laptop in 12/2013. Recently, we noticed it wasn't closing properly.  The hinge mounts on both sides are broken. The pressed in metal, threaded mounts pulled out of the plastic base. Some of the plastic mounts are broken. An internet search revealed the problem is systemic with this laptop so we figure its a quality issue. What do we do next? The laptop is just about unusable. FYI I also sent this info into support. Thanks Fred Gasior

I have had this laptop (HP Envy 17") for 10 months, and I've loved pretty much everything about it up until now. I just noticed that the plastic and metal portions of the casing is starting to separate by the left hinge.  It can be pressed back almost into place, but every time I open or close my laptop the casing pops apart again.  It's only been a problem for around a month now , but the separation is increasing at a worrying rate and I'm afraid it's going to start hurting the insides of the laptop. I noticed several other posts by people who have had this exact same problem,  I was wondering how to fix it, or at least stop the separation from propogating so I don't end up hurting my laptop. Also since it is still under warranty were can i get it fixed?I am in johannesburg south africa. Regards Alexiou

HP,I seem to be plagued by the same issue that a lot of other owners of this model share; my display lid has become extremely weak right above the hinges - the panel from the inside begins to poke through the outer plastic if I try to move the lid, and consequently, larger cracks have developed over time. At this stage, the display barely holds itself up, it sways back and forth violently with even the slightest bit of wind from a fan, and I'm forced to avoid closing the lid at all costs. I've looked around for any possibility for repair at a bunch of local stores, but they have a hard time finding the replacement parts. I'd like to know if there's any scope for getting my laptop back to normal, how much it would cost for the repairs, and if there's anything that can be done in spite of the fact that I'm well past my warranty period, considering that this is a major design flaw. I've been having this issue since a little less than a year after I'd purchased this laptop, and I've been looking for a solution for about 15 months ever since.

I have the HP Envy 15-k016nr (G6U39UA#ABA) serial number is 5CD440149T, the right hinge is broken. HP has no parts list for the unit and the LCD hinge broke and cracked theback cover. I now need to replace them both and can not fine par tnumbers. The hinge design is very poorly designed and it seems that all these laptop have the same problem. Is there any way to get the part numbers so I can atleast fix mine so I can use it for school??

My HP Envy 15 is less than two years old and has never been dropped or handled roughly, but the hinges started popping open from normal use a few months after the warranty expired.  Seeing as I am  a college student and unable to afford expensive repairs I had hoped it wouldn't get worse if treated delicately and have avoided moving the hinges as much as possible.  Unfortunately several months later, the left hinge has now completely detached from the casing, the metal inside has popped out and the hinge cover has fallen off the computer entirely leaving the wires inside the hinge exposed and the left side of the screen unattached to the base of the laptop. The right hinge is seperating as well and is splitting the side of the computer open.  It can't be closed without breaking the rest of the way and it won't stay open without being supported.  As it is, the computer is almost completely unusable and my only options are to get it repaired or replace it because I need a computer for college. It appears from this forum that this damage is the result of a very common manufacturing defect, so I'd like to know what my options are for resolving this issue.  Does anyone know what can be done about this? Thanks!
