I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a two wireless dongles hooked via usb...don't think they connect any other way..ha but yeah and I also have a hub hooked to my computer via either net port. When I turn on my hub the wireless dongle that is getting the internet looses the net.

The hub is a old D-Link DI-704 and the Wireless dongle is Linksys WUS854G v4

So whats the deal here?

I'm running Vista by the way not windows 7 and if you need to know more specs let me know.

Is it a powered hub or an unpowered hub? Maybe the dongle needs more power which the hub cannot provide...

Just got my new computer yesterday. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I have my dialup connection set to reconnect after connection loss, and it does it just fine - but Windows Live Messenger Will not attempt to re-sign in after my internet connection has been reconnected! It just keeps doing that countdown over and over as if I'm not connected to the internet.

This is important for me for Windows Messenger to reconnect because msn wakes me up at certain times with nudges from my business partner. How can I fix this? What's the problem? Thanks

It may be that this belongs in the network forum, but it's borderline, and this one seems to get more traffic, so here goes:

I'm configuring a computer for a client. It needs to have access to some shared directories on a Windows NT 4.0 server. The client system is running Windows XP Home. The network just uses standard windows workgroup networking. I've got a couple of the directories on the server mapped to network drives on the client computer. So-far-so-good. Now I want it set up so that when the user on the client computer boots the computer and logs on, it connects automatically to the mapped drives. No problem...figured out how to do this. Set it up with a username and password to connect with. But when I reboot the machine and log on, I get the following message:
"Could not reconnect to all network drives
Click here to open My Computer and see the status of your network drives."

When I double-click one of the network drives, it gives me the username/password dialog, I log on, and all works fine from there on out. But I'd like to just have it connect automatically like it's supposed to. Anybody know what the problem is here?

I was trying to troubleshoot a database access problem and did a dumb thing. I changed membership from a domain name to workgroup. After rebooting, my login wouldn' work. I logged in as administrator to switch back to the original domain and I get an error message saying that the domain controller for that domain could not be contacted. Now I know it exists as everyone else is on that domain.

Any ideas on how to rectify this situation?

Update: Now when I try and connect to the domain, I get a message saying that "Access is denied." On the server, the machine and user are part of the domain.

Have you run a virus scan lately? Here's an online one:

Also, go here and download Startup List:

Copy/paste the list here.

Also, get Spybot from the same place.

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

Downstairs, i have a USB D-link wireless adaptor connected to my PC. Upstairs, i have another computer connected to the internet through a cable modem which is also connected to a wirless linksys router.

The D-Link used to detect the linksys and would connect automatically, but now, when it tries to connect, it gets stuck on "acquiring network address" and ends with "limited or no connectivity." When i try a repair, it gets stuck on "renewing IP address."

Possible Cause
two days ago, i tried to connect another linksys router to my downstairs computer and use it as an access point to the upstairs router wirelessly. It wasn't working and I messed with some network settings on both computers. Still refusing to work, i gave up and went back to the D-Link which now doesn't want to work. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and still nothing. I even reset the modem and router upstairs back to there factory defaults and the D-Link still can't connect. It SEES the network. it just can't connect anymore.

The network is unsecured.
Upstairs router: Linksys WRT54G2 v1
Downstairs D-Link: DWA-130 v1
OS Upstairs: Windows XP SP3
OS Downstairs: Windows XP SP2

How do I re-establish my internet connection downstairs? If you need any additional information, please feel free to ask. I can locate most of it, have a decent understanding of CMD, network connections, and internet options.

A:Can't reconnect to my wireless router. Help?

Hi:On the problem pc,let's see this:

From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

PING <computer_IP_address> For addresses,follow instructions below….

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING www.yahoo.com
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. IPV4 for Vista

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have an ADSL connection (PPPoE) and my ISP has dynamic IP's, every 12 hours my connection is reset, with Windows 7 there was no problem because it just made the login again when it lost connection but with Windows 8 i can't seem to be able to do the same thing, its kind of annoying because when i leave the PC downloading something and go to work when i come back there is no connection and the download isn't finished

I've checked the "remember my credentials" box and did my connection the default one for applications, not sure what else there is to do.
I also looked for third party software to reconnect but the only one i found works only with XP.

PS. i don't own a router, just a modem.

A:ADSL Won't Reconnect after IP change.

After reading around on this PPPoE reconnection problem at TechNet, it appears as if the setting to redial when the connection is lost has been removed from Windows 8. Lots of people not too happy with this.

The best advice I could find was to install a program called Connection Keeper 11.3, is made to redial when the connection is lost or keep the connection alive when it's not being used.

When I connect to the Internet (Dial Up DUN) the first time every thing works fine.
If I disconnect and reconnect I am unable to do anything (use my browser to surf the internet etc).
The only way to correct this problem is to restart my computer.
I think in some way it has to do with the "AMD Athlon 64 3200+". (AMD says no way) (SOLTEK say not there problem)
I have another computer with a "AMD Athlon 1700+" and don't have any problems.

The 1700+ system is identical except for the CPU. Running WinXP Pro SP2 & using the same brand and model modem.
I sign on at 26.4 Kbps. sometimes 28.8 Kbps.
Being that the 1700+ system has no trouble with the Actiontec modem and WinXP Pro SP2 I doubt that is the problem.

I have several drives mapped on different Windows 7 boxes in my office. Just about every time I boot up one of these systems I receive the message "Could not reconnect all network drives" in the system tray.

I should note that merely clicking the drive inside Windows Explorer will restore the connection. I store the server logon credentials in Control Panel / Credential Manager then just map the network paths to drive letters. I'm pretty sure the
problem doesn't stem from any credentials type of problem though, because I have the exact same situation when connecting to only open shares. I have noticed that a couple applications will restore the connection themselves when trying to access information
on a share. Most applications however will give an error and time out trying to access the shares unless I go and manually click each drive letter in Explorer. For instance if I place Firefox bookmarks on a share and open Firefox, Firefox will
display no bookmarks until I click the drive in Explorer and reopen Firefox.
One thing I can do to fix the problem is hard code my IP address. I never receive the message if a computer has fixed IP address. My router hands out IPs on the LAN dynamically, so I switch it to another router and tried a using a Linux based dhcp-server
as well. Neither fixed the problem.

A:Could not reconnect all network drives

This issue drove me crazy for ages and I eventually managed to resolve it.
In my case the issue was related to me having configured a duplicate mapping of users homedrives. For each users Active Directory account I had configured the profile to connect the homedrive to a drive letter and then had also configured
the same drive mapping within group policy preferences. To solve it I removed the group policy preference setting and the message stopped displaying. You could also remove the AD Profile setting but remember that you'll have to take additional steps to configure
folder permissions for the users homedrive. AD profile settings do it automatically for you but can also be setup easily within group policy preferences.
Hope it works for you too.

Hello everyone,

(first post, please excuse me if I've done something wrong/posted in wrong forum/etc)

I have an issue with my new 8.1 laptop - it won't automatically reconnect to a Wi-Fi network after the connection is dropped. I've checked that "Connect Automatically" is checked but the computer simply doesn't want to do that.

A little background: My dorm has two options for internet, an ethernet port that's almost always on but usually never faster than 150 KB/s, and a poor Wi-Fi signal that constantly disconnects but is much faster. I'd like to remain connected to the Ethernet but have the computer connect to the Wi-Fi whenever possible so I can get a faster connection whenever it's available. I've already used the tweak over at How to Wifi And Ethernet At the Same Time [Solved] - Windows 8 - Windows 8 , and it appears to work whenever I connect to the Wi-Fi manually.

The strange thing is that this issue doesn't occur on my older Win7 laptop - whenever the poor connection is dropped, the computer automatically tries to reconnect. For this reason I'm reasonably sure it's an 8.1 issue, perhaps Windows sees that I'm connected to Ethernet as well and decides not to connect?

Two W2K Pro, SP4 computers networked through a Linksys 4-port router, internal NICs, and sharing a DSL connection, static IP, not on a domain, no server, just two computers sharing files and an internet connection. Neither is passworded.

Computer One doesn't have any problems. Computer Two can never re-establish connection with Computer One when booted although it never has a problem re-establishing its internet connection. Both are running McAfee AV, neither are running a firewall. Both are scanned for spyware with Spybot weekly and neither have anything installed other than ordinary, registered (and expensive) software needed to run the business (dental clinic). No games installed other than those that come with Windows.

I can re-map the network on Computer Two and it connects to Computer One immediately, no delay, no error messages. It just will not establish a connection with Computer One without manually re-mapping the network on every boot and reboot. I rebooted Computer Two four times this morning; twice shutting it down entirely, twice just restarting it. I got the same inability to re-establish the connection with Computer One every time and the same immediate connection when I re-mapped the network.

These two computers are in an office and are being used by less-than-skilled users so re-mapping the network on every boot/reboot is not only tedious but it is "too scary" for the users, so they won't even try it.

Please help I have been at this all day!

I set up my new Patriot Corza NAS and got it running despite some ambiguous instructions on my Win Vista Home Premium 64 computer. I kept the standard defaults ie name: corza-nas, login: admin, password: admin etc. The 2 808GB HDD's are set up in ext3 as raid1.

Following comments by another user I typed \\corza-nas in the address bar of explorer, right clicked the public folder and mapped this to G: drive.

Everthing worked fine, I was able to copy, open files etc but every time boot up from windows I get the mesage "could not reconnect all network drives".

The corza icon has a red cross through it and clicking it requires me to log on again. When i do this the username comes up as "k1200\\admin" (the computer name is k1200) which I have to change to "admin" and then enter "admin" as the password, everything works fine again.

I have read through this and various other forums but am unsure of this question. Do I need Vista Professional to stop this from happening? Keeping in mind that I dont have (or want) any users on my computer, it just boots up as administrator straight to the desktop.

I am aware there are many articles showing how to move user folders during or after installing win 7. What I am thinking of is something different:

How would I reinstall (clean install) win 7 on drive c if I already have the user folders (documents, pictures, videos, desktop) on a separate drive d?

Would it work if after installation I include the drive d folders in the library and mark them as the default place to save files? Would I then delete those user folders on drive c?

Sorry if this sounds muddling?

I also will notice it if I'm trying to bring a page up and it will say this page cannot be displayed.

I have a desktop computer and it doesn't do it. I stay on my laptop and it is wireless and I'm connected to the internet with a cable modem. I'm running XP on it. I don't have any idea what other information you need.

Please help before I lose my mind!

Thanks so much,

Ok--here's the deal. I have a VPN to work and use a wireless Internet connection at home. When I first log on and if I use the computer and the networked drives, they are fine, but if there is a long period of inactivity, the drives disconnect and when I click on them it tells me the drive is already in use or some similar message like that. I can log off and log back on (it to a domain) and that fixes it, but there must be some other way to do it? I was thinking some sort of batch file that reconnects the mapped drives.

A few days ago my pc and my work laptop we're idle for a day or so and when I went to connect to the internet I had no network connection. I checked my modem and router and reset everything. Checked to make sure everything was connected. I have a 3rd PC that was connected, but the 2nd PC and laptop had no network connections. I found out today through work that my laptop motherboard died. I still can't figure out what's wrong with my home PC. I have a wireless router, but with my home PC's they are connected hard wire. I placed a wireless connector in my 2nd PC and I can not connect that way either!

What do I need to do? Is my PC MB fried?? Need help!
Thanks in advance!

A:No network connection and won't reconnect

Also, before you respond to my first message. I tried the ipconfig/release and renew and since my PC is not recieving anything, that does not work. I've also tried to disconnect and reconnect. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall. Nothing is working!

OS Windows 7 SP-1 IE 11 Desk top Ethernet connection.I have a recurring problem that I cannot resolve. Turning on the computer andconnecting to the internet executes with no problems. However, when "clicking"on a news article that is of interest the computer freezes, mouse pointer doesnot work, I "left-click" and then it suddenly disconnects from the internet andafter about 5 seconds it reconnects. This only happens once a day and usually occurs sometime after initiallyconnecting to the internet. Very strange.I've checked Device Manager to ensure the latest Drivers are installed.ipconfig /flushdnsRan malware scanChecked this and other forums for possible cause and solution. Negative results. This is annoying as it happens only once a day, as stated earlier, not reallydevastating as I can live with it. But it irks me and I would like to know thecause and cure.Mika
