I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a two wireless dongles hooked via usb...don't think they connect any other way..ha but yeah and I also have a hub hooked to my computer via either net port. When I turn on my hub the wireless dongle that is getting the internet looses the net.

The hub is a old D-Link DI-704 and the Wireless dongle is Linksys WUS854G v4

So whats the deal here?

I'm running Vista by the way not windows 7 and if you need to know more specs let me know.

Is it a powered hub or an unpowered hub? Maybe the dongle needs more power which the hub cannot provide...

Bought my laptop one month ago and yesterday it black screened and is just a paperweight now. Lonovos only solution to selling defective computers is to repair them. What I couldn't get them to understand is that I don't want a broken and repaired laptop, that's not what I paid for. I paid for a no defective computer. You cant give me a broken machine that you band-aided for the same price as a new machine. I just want a replacement or my money back. I feel as if I'm getting screwed over big time here, and that's not how a company should do business. Don't sell me a lemon and then offer to fix it. I didn't want a lemon in the first place. I want what I paid for, a fully functional non defective machine. Lenovo refuses and is keeping the money. Lesson learned.

It may be that this belongs in the network forum, but it's borderline, and this one seems to get more traffic, so here goes:

I'm configuring a computer for a client. It needs to have access to some shared directories on a Windows NT 4.0 server. The client system is running Windows XP Home. The network just uses standard windows workgroup networking. I've got a couple of the directories on the server mapped to network drives on the client computer. So-far-so-good. Now I want it set up so that when the user on the client computer boots the computer and logs on, it connects automatically to the mapped drives. No problem...figured out how to do this. Set it up with a username and password to connect with. But when I reboot the machine and log on, I get the following message:
"Could not reconnect to all network drives
Click here to open My Computer and see the status of your network drives."

When I double-click one of the network drives, it gives me the username/password dialog, I log on, and all works fine from there on out. But I'd like to just have it connect automatically like it's supposed to. Anybody know what the problem is here?

Have you run a virus scan lately? Here's an online one:

Also, go here and download Startup List:

Copy/paste the list here.

Also, get Spybot from the same place.

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

Remove everything pre-ticked in Red

My Question is related to Networking but here might be the suitable place for it. I am always connected to Town Wifi with no encryption but to have internet access I have to open the browser and I will be forwarded to a page where I should enter the user name and password after that I have internet access. In normal ISP you can automatically reconnect after disconnection but for this one if I am disconnected from them , I have to open the browser where I should enter the user name and password again.

the problem is that ISP dissconnect the users Twice daily so if I have download I come back to find that the download stopped because there is no internet connection and I have to resume it by entering the user name and password.

there are two cases for the problem. I prefer a solution for case one but solution for case two also OK

1- automatic reconnect after disconnect. So If the internet dissconnect. A Program open the browser and enter the user name and password to have the internet connection back. if the page for the user name and password didn't appear, this mean that ISP is offline for all user for fixing some problem and the program should try again later.

2- trying to open the browser at certain times for example every 4 or 6 hrs to enter the user name and password. if opening the browser doesn't take the program to page for entering the user name and password, this mean that there is internet or there is problem with the ISP and should try again l... Suggest that you try the following: -

2. Physically disconnect all Network drives
3. Restart
4. Monitor Task Manager and WAIT until all Disk activity has stopped - 0%
5. Now physically reconnect only ONE of the Network drives

I have several drives mapped on different Windows 7 boxes in my office.  Just about every time I boot up one of these systems I receive the message "Could not reconnect all network drives" in the system tray.

I should note that merely clicking the drive inside Windows Explorer will restore the connection.  I store the server logon credentials in Control Panel / Credential Manager then just map the network paths to drive letters.  I'm pretty sure the
problem doesn't stem from any credentials type of problem though, because I have the exact same situation when connecting to only open shares.  I have noticed that a couple applications will restore the connection themselves when trying to access information
on a share.  Most applications however will give an error and time out trying to access the shares unless I go and manually click each drive letter in Explorer.  For instance if I place Firefox bookmarks on a share and open Firefox, Firefox will
display no bookmarks until I click the drive in Explorer and reopen Firefox.
One thing I can do to fix the problem is hard code my IP address. I never receive the message if a computer has fixed IP address.  My router hands out IPs on the LAN dynamically, so I switch it to another router and tried a using a Linux based dhcp-server
as well.  Neither fixed the problem.
I'm a long time user of batch files and realize I could place use one as a band aid for this issue, but I do... Read more

A:Could not reconnect all network drives

This issue drove me crazy for ages and I eventually managed to resolve it.
In my case the issue was related to me having configured a duplicate mapping of users homedrives. For each users Active Directory account  I had configured the profile to connect the homedrive to a drive letter and then had also configured
the same drive mapping within group policy preferences. To solve it I removed the group policy preference setting and the message stopped displaying. You could also remove the AD Profile setting but remember that you'll have to take additional steps to configure
folder permissions for the users homedrive. AD profile settings do it automatically for you but can also be setup easily within group policy preferences.
Hope it works for you too.

Hi all, I apologise if this question has been beaten to a pulp, I just want a 'once and for all' answer. After many google searches, I have yet to find one.

I have a windows 7 pc that is part of an office network along with about 5 other machines. They are all supposed to connect to a server via network mapping of the server's shared folder. (In this case the mapping is Z:\\pi-server\data and the server is running 2008 R2 on a workgroup). Upon reboot, all systems but one will remap to this drive with no problem.

The one machine will always boot up with the message 'Windows could not reconnect network drives' The mapping is showing in windows explorer but there is a red 'x' icon showing the connection is lost. When I click on it, it prompts for windows credentials, which I enter and then it remaps with no problems. However upon next boot the same thing happens again. No matter what I try I cannot get the system to retain the credentials.

What I have tried so far:

1. Ensuring that there is a match of user names and passwords on the server and workstation.
2. Deleting the mapping and re-adding it.
3. Running a batch file to delay the mapping in order for windows to finish connecting the network first.

I would like to be able to browse to the network folder via network discovery through the workgroup but this particular machine does not have the server show up in the network listing (all other machines do show the server). Plus when pinging the server, it insists on res... Read more

Hi, I've been using my router, a SMC2804WBR for about 4-5 years now. It hasn't given me any problems until recently when my connection (wired) would go off for a second, then reconnect again. In this case, both activity and connection lights (orange and green) from my Ethernet card and the router would go off, then on again as it reconnects.

It does not disconnect me from my online games or msn etc, it just gives me a load of packet losses, which is irritating.

OS: Vista home premium 32x
ISP: starhub cable vision (singapore)

3 pcs using a wireless connection, 1 pc using a wired connection.

Tried the following steps,

- reset everything
- firmware upgrade
- disabled firewall
- plugged the LAN cable into the other LAN ports on the router

Things that I did not do, well because i don't have the chance to...

- use a direct connection, I don't have a straight cable long enough
- do a LAN cable test (how do you do one? x_x)

I have no idea what could be the problem, this problem popped up just a week ago.

Thank you for looking into this.

Every time my wireless drops out, I need to restart windows and click the "Turn wireless on" button in windows mobility centre before it will reconnect. Usually it is after i get a "Limited connectivity" error message.

I'm using a Fujitsu Lifebook T Series Tablet running Windows Vista (Business).
I have recently changed to a Netgear "RangeMax" Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (however I'm *pretty* sure this didnt start happening until a month after I started using it)

When I open windows mobility centre after the wireless drops out, the caption on the wireless button is still "Turn wireless off", and clicking on it does nothing. Its not until i restart windows that the caption changes to "Turn wireless on" and I can get wireless working again. When I do click on it, the caption changes as expected.

Do you have any ideas on why my wireless does not reconnect after it drops and how i can fix it? Failing that, is there any way that I can turn wireless back on without using Windows mobility centre, or fix windows mobility centre so that the button allows me to turn wireless back on.

Please let me know what further information would help and also whether or not i have posted it in the right section (I assumed it's a software issue as windows mobility center doesnt update).

Thanks a lot.

Downstairs, i have a USB D-link wireless adaptor connected to my PC. Upstairs, i have another computer connected to the internet through a cable modem which is also connected to a wirless linksys router.

The D-Link used to detect the linksys and would connect automatically, but now, when it tries to connect, it gets stuck on "acquiring network address" and ends with "limited or no connectivity." When i try a repair, it gets stuck on "renewing IP address."

Possible Cause
two days ago, i tried to connect another linksys router to my downstairs computer and use it as an access point to the upstairs router wirelessly. It wasn't working and I messed with some network settings on both computers. Still refusing to work, i gave up and went back to the D-Link which now doesn't want to work. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and still nothing. I even reset the modem and router upstairs back to there factory defaults and the D-Link still can't connect. It SEES the network. it just can't connect anymore.

The network is unsecured.
Upstairs router: Linksys WRT54G2 v1
Downstairs D-Link: DWA-130 v1
OS Upstairs: Windows XP SP3
OS Downstairs: Windows XP SP2

How do I re-establish my internet connection downstairs? If you need any additional information, please feel free to ask. I can locate most of it, have a decent understanding of CMD, network connections, and internet options.

I placed a wireless connector in my 2nd PC and I can not connect that way either!

What do I need to do? Is my PC MB fried?? Need help!
Thanks in advance!

A:No network connection and won't reconnect

Also, before you respond to my first message. I tried the ipconfig/release and renew and since my PC is not recieving anything, that does not work. I've also tried to disconnect and reconnect. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall. Nothing is working!

Ok--here's the deal. I have a VPN to work and use a wireless Internet connection at home. When I first log on and if I use the computer and the networked drives, they are fine, but if there is a long period of inactivity, the drives disconnect and when I click on them it tells me the drive is already in use or some similar message like that. I can log off and log back on (it to a domain) and that fixes it, but there must be some other way to do it? I was thinking some sort of batch file that reconnects the mapped drives.

A:How do I reconnect drives without logging on and off?

hey all

i have a problem in win 7 on 2 different comp...on 2 dif wireless(an atheros laptop wireless and an atheros usb)

i can setup an ad hoc connection with internet no problem....works like a charm but...

if the server computer enters to sleep....after resume....the ad-hoc doesnt work anymore...only sais "identify.." and doesnt work anymore....

need to make another new ad-hoc connection to make it work

the ad-hoc connection is saved so i can use it another time....but once disconnected i can never reconnect to make it work...

i know the ad-hoc network its a temprary connection...but why bother to save it if it doesnt work afterwards

the command << netsh wlan connect name=Profile2 ssid=SSID2 interface="Wireless Network Connection"
>> works smooth but its in vain if the connection is not working after reconnect..

i said before its not working on s3....but not working on restart either....not even working if i disconnect the host PC and connect it again....cant really reconnect...

any ideas ?....

ps: the router is not a solution

A:Wireless ad-hoc not working after reconnect

You should be using the wireless connection setup wizard in Windows 7 to set up those wireless connections. For Windows 7 computers I would also use Homegroup networking.

There are certain elements of sharing that probably won't work correctly if you use ad-hoc.

Homegroup - Create

The sleep mode wireless adaptor problem is widespread and will probably or hopefully get fixed with driver updates. Anthros may have one now if you look for it, new drivers are showing up daily on some sites. You might need to disable sleep until a newer driver shows up that fixes the problem.
