PnPDriverImportError for Adobe CS5.5 "Adobe PDF Printer"

Q: PnPDriverImportError for Adobe CS5.5 "Adobe PDF Printer"

Hi:

Mods - if this belongs in "software", rather than "drivers", please feel free to move.

Problem: "Adobe PDF Printer" in CS4 disappeared and issue not resolved after clean uninstall/cleanup/clean install of CS 5.5. Adobe TS (up to Tier2) no help.

History:
Had been running CS4 (fully patched) without issues for >1 year.
Noticed 1 day in 3/2011 that "PDF Printer" had disappeared from installed printers, and I could not "print to PDF" from web browser or other apps.
NUMEROUS TS calls/remote assists with Adobe TS --> no resolution. They tried all manner of multiple manual PDF printer reinstalls, copying dll files from other computer, deleting OEM driver files from elevated command prompt (!), etc.
Computer, physical printer, and entire CS4 worked fine, but I had no "PDF Printer", even though the add-in for MS Office worked fine and I could "save as > adobe pdf".
They said a clean reinstall of CS4 would resolve it, but since CS 5.5 was imminent, I opted to wait, getting by without PDF Printer.
Today, with Adobe TS assist, I performed a clean uninstall of CS4 > reboot > run Adobe CS cleanup tool > reboot > clean install of CS 5.5 from DVD > reboot > update > reboot. NO errors, no problems.
BUT, of course, "PDF Printer" is still missing. The Office Add-In seems to be working, though, as I can "save as > Adobe pdf".
EVERYTHING ELSE in CS 5.5 seems to be working fine, as does the computer and my physical printer.
NEW round of Adobe TS: same troubleshooting as last time > no joy.
So, although I now have CS 5.5 instead of CS 4, I have the SAME "PDF Printer" problem.

After all the horror stories of folks having to reinstall Windows or worse b/c of Adobe issues, I am pretty annoyed (especially for $600).

I've not found their forum folks entirely helpful in the past, so I hope you wise and kind folks have some suggestions, especially if this somehow points back to a Win7 issue???

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: PnPDriverImportError for Adobe CS5.5 "Adobe PDF Printer"

My advice is "if you haven't already" do a clean install of Windows and start all over from scratch. I've spent days trying to clean up left overs from CS# installs and all I ended up doing was banging my head against a wall. Even the Adobe cleanup utility doesn't seem to get it all, especially if it is a licensing error or failure. After doing a clean install of Windows and a last clean install of CS# everything works. Well at least until you hit the next glitch that is. Then its back to the head banging.

I'm running Acrobat Pro 9 with Windows 7 professional. I randomly get this error message when I attempt to print:
Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer.

I have several printers that are listed and I did not change anything. My default printer works properly with other software. I can print from Adobe most of the time, but this error message is driving me nuts. Any ideas how and why this happens and how this can be fixed?

A:Adobe "You need to install a printer"

Danny have you checked that the printer you use the most or prefer is ticked in Devices and Printers?

If so have you downloaded the latest drivers and mate I prefer to go to the manufacturers site rather than do it through Windows.

Never mind this. It was nothing to do with Adobe.

I posted the following in Adobe's own forum.

I've just uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on the suspicion that it was causing an operating system problem on my PC, that Adobe Reader DC was behaving as malware.

Whether I have correctly identified the issue I have come here to ask because if I have, the reputation of Adobe is about to take a dive to a crisis low but this is fair warning so that Abobe can put things right and rescue its reputation before it is too late.

I am running Microsoft Windows 8.1 on a HP Desktop PC.

When I was uninstalling Acrobat Reader DC I think the date of installation was 14th January 2016 - some 9 days or so ago.

The symptoms were that the "house icon" Start text-style menu was not popping up as it should. This meant that I could not access any functions through the start menu or even shut down my PC as normal.

I could still access the pseudo-touch button start menu and via that I was able to access the PC Settings - Update and recovery and I was seriously considering a "Refresh your PC without accessing your files" involving removing dozens of applications and a lot of work to get my PC working again, but that would have been a panic measure so I investigated deeper.

I found a suspect via the Task Manager. Via the "Details" menu I found that a file by the name of "RdrCEF.exe" was using about 8% of ... Read more

A:I've uninstalled "Acrobat Reader DC = malware". Adobe reputation CRISI

Do you really think Adobe cares that some lone person on a message board threatens their reputation? They have millions of users across hundreds of products. One person waving their hands is noise to them.

To be honest, the fact that you think your own posts carry so much weight as to put Adobe's reputation in a "crisis low" state seems kind of silly to me. Do you really believe that?

Look, the fact is, lots of programs have bugs, and a company like adobe is not going to jump to your demands to fix what may or may not be a bug, just because you threaten to discredit them.

I also suggest you lookup the definition of malware. Malware would mean that the application is doing something nefarious, such as stealing your passwords, or bank account details, or being used to spread spam. A program that uses too many resources due to a bug is not "malware".

Hello,

there is no clear malfunction, just one or two unexplained new error messages. I would appreciate any advice.

I'm using a Dell laptop running Win XP, using Kaspersky Internet Security.

I do a lot of (amateur) photographic work using Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 as well as a U.S. version of Adobe Photoshop 6.0. Also, I have had the laptop lcd monitor calibrated using Spyder 3.0 over a month ago because I want reasonable colour consistency between display and prints.

For that reason I am concerned that in the last week this message appears after any restart:
Adobe Gamma Loader has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Calibration did make a visible difference to colour display and since this error shows up I do not see any big difference in colour but the message is still a concern.

Could be related: I think this may have started happening after my Nikon photo browser ViewNX started crashing recently in the same way i.e. "ViewNX has encountered a problem and needs to close." For ViewNX that problem still happens after I did an uninstall, and reinstall latest version from Nikon. (Before that reinstall I had to also get latest Windows upgrades to SP3, and got upgrades for .NET and many others at the same time. But the original problem was before the upgrades.)

Web enquiries so far reveal that Adobe Gamma Loader.exe can be a TROJAN (esp. if the .exe resides in Startup folder) but in my case it looks legit because it exists as a shortcut i... Read more

Hello,

I have just finished designing a ".PDF" through Adobe InDesign CS3. The file is an invoice template that I will modify and export in ".PDF" format to send to clients.

What I was wondering was whether there is an issue with the fonts being used, and whether they would only display on other users machines (providing they didn't have the font installed on their system) in a substitute font?

For example, if I use the 'Calibri' font in the invoice, and I send the invoice as a ".PDF" to a client who does not have 'Calibri' installed on their computer, will it substitute the font with something else?

If so, is the only way around that to do the 'Create Outlines' action to each font element in the document prior to exporting it from Adobe InDesign CS3 as a ".PDF" file?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All;

I routinely create print pieces using MS Publisher, and print to PDF, in order to place the print pieces in other publications. I typically create a blank document in the dimensions I need, save as a publisher file, and set up the printer to PDF, changing the postscript ad size to the exact size of the document. Then the PDF, regardless of the actual paper size, is formatted to the space dimensions needed for placement elsewhere.

Today, after an apparent routine download of Adobe updates, I've lost the ADOBE PDF printer option in my print list. I haven't been able to retrieve it. However, in Publisher, I have the option to "save to PDF." But, this doesn't appear to give me the re-sizing capability I need. I also found out a couple weeks ago, that my office no longer has the "print to PDF" function (I work from home), but they don't usually do ad work that required resizing for publication.

I did attempt to update the printer driver list, and acquired a driver called "Adobe PDF converter," but somehow the task of printing to PDF never completes and I don't find a PDF document in my folder.

Anybody have any insights on why my office or I no longer have the "Print to PDF" capability, and is there any way to retrieve it? For me, it is the easiest route to accomplish my re-sizing and printing to PDF. Or, what is the new way to do what I need considering what appears to be the downloaded updates? Am I ... Read more

I know I am not alone with this problem, but is there a legitimate permanent fix so I don't have to continually go to my "internet options" to enable my java script (which I have never found disabled) and then uninstall/reinstall the Adobe Flash Player? I'm obviously connected to the Internet because I downloaded the executable that launched this manager from Adobe's website. Is my network really this busy or should I be opening a particular port to allow this utility to access the Internet?

Hi Everyone,

I am stumped...I am running Windows XP SP3, 1.70Ghz 512 ram.

I recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.1. I am trying to print an instruction manual I downloaded off internet. This is for a Canon Digital Camcorder. I downloaded it from Canon site. When I try to print it every page prints the word COPY across it? I've checked the Reader security settting and they look ok. I then checked the security on the download and there is no restriction for copying or printing, so I am stumped.

I downloaded another one from a different secure website and same thing. I printed something unrelated with no problem. It's strange cuz it has the same exact security setting for these docs how could that be?. Tried Adobe site couldn't find diddly on their support base. I've got to print this for tomorrow. Can anyone help?

Idk why but adobe flash(latest version) is "hurting" my system, opening an app that requires flash will block for almost 10-20 seconds then unblock.Processor is 70 - 90% usage and commit charge 600-800 M from 4957.That is not normal coz before instaling a fresh windows my system had running 4-5 flash applications without problems, c charge was around 600-700m and never block.

What suggestions can you give me techguys, i'm waiting your answer.Isn't urgent but if is a windows problem maybe i should know coz i'll need to reinstall it again and that is painful.

Am I to guess that is Windows Vista, or what architecture?

I think uninstall it and install a slightly older version, and then update it, but make sure you download it from a known source say like Hippo files, TechSpot or Adobe's website.

I hope that helps...

I've worked with photoshop 6.0 for a while now on windows XP and never had problems with it loading the fonts. I installed more fonts for our graphics shop & since I installed them photoshop won't open, it gets to where it tries to read the fonts & brings up this error msg:
"Unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."
And the only option to close the error window is to Quit......
any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks

Okay. I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 3, Mozilla Firefox v3.

I have this extremely annoying problem with my computer (it doesn't matter which browser I use, IE, Firefox, etc., it says the same thing): whenever I go to a site that uses Flash Player, it tells me to install it because I don't have it. Keep in mind that I did have it installed, but figured maybe my version was outdated or something small like that.

The first time this happened, I downloaded and installed Flash Player; no luck. I did it repeatedly, almost three or four times, maybe more, before I gave up. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it; that didn't work either.

I don't get why this is happening. Clearly I have it installed, but these sites are telling me it's not. I even reinstalled Javascript to see if that would fix it, but nothing happened.

What do I do?

A:Adobe Flash Player: "it's not installed, but it is."

Clear ALL boxes except for the following:
Smooth edges of screen fonts.
Smooth-scroll list boxes.
Use visual styles on windows and buttons.

CLICK ON "APPLY" THEN "OK" and get out of all frames.
Re-boot if you like, but you don't have to.

If you wish, leave the shadows under the mouse - but BE SURE
that the box "Enable desktop composition" is UN-CHECKED.

When I did that, all my programs appeared nice and sharp, as if by magic!

We need to updates out XP desktops in our small office. Instead of going to Windows 7, I thought it made sense to try to go right to 8. So I build up a new box with 8G ram and a Quad Core AMD CPU. I ran it at home for a week or so and it seemed fine.

Then I brought it to the office and mapped out a network drive. When I open a file from the network in either Word or Acrobat Reader 10, I can navigate in the file for a few seconds, then get hit with a "not responding" message. That lasts for a minute or so, then the application works again.

I did some searching and saw this problem with windows 7. One suspect with the video adapter drivers. Those are all up to date though. I tried opening files from a data partition of the boot hard drive. It happens a lot less, but still does happen.

I sort or regret loading the USB 3.0 drivers for the MSI motherboard. That seemed to make the USB connected DVD drive a lot less reliable.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I made a full image each day for a couple weeks. I might try to go back to an earlier config to see what happens.

Any sugestions?

Yes, just in case someone is kind and knowledgeable enough to respond to this POST, let me share some information about my Windows XP Pro, SP3 system.

Although my system is old (some my consider it to be a dinosaur or a product from the Noah's Ark era), the machine has been pretty good (knock on wood).

The system, when purchased was manufactured by Micro PC Electronics (now out of business) had Windows Millennia installed .
Needless to say, over the years I have modified much or the hardware and software. Of course I installed Windows XP Pro SP3, 32-bit; a revision of the original Gigabyte GA-7DX motherboard which has 3-memory slots instead of the 2-memory slots the original MB had. The existing CPU (an AMD Socket A-1.2GHz that came with the replacement Motherboard). I have also installed a new Nvidia GeForce 6200 video card and a new Creative Sound Blaster card in addition to a SCSI and RAID PCI 2-port Controller card (Silicon Image SI-3512 SATA Raid Controller). My Primary IDE source cable has two 250-Gig HDD's configured as Master and Slave. I also 1T SATA drive connected to the SATA Raid card.

So as can be observed, the system has been revived and upgraded as much as possible -- until about three to four week ago.

My system was running fairly decent until it began slowing down to almost a crawl. At first I thought that I had either a virus, malware, or a rootkit infecting the system. So, of course, I ran Malwarebytes Anti-virus. I ran Kaspersky TDSSKiller, E... Read more

A:Cannot "install" Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0

Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.232 installed just fine last month in my Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit desktop.
I haven't gotten around yet to installing version 19.0.0.185 in it.

We have no idea what's installed and running in your computer, so do the following in it.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Go here and click the large green "Download" button to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.5 (HijackThis.exe) to your desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it and allow its main window to load.
Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".
Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".
When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear.
Save that log file.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log file here.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.
Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.
Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
Click on the "Save List" button.
Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.
It'll then open in Notepad.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE file here.

My Adobe reader version 11.0.5 only finds words on some PDFs. I was sent a PDF that is a church directory, but I keep getting a message saying "No matches found," when I use the "find" feature (Control + F). I can find the names I'm looking for by scrolling through the 37 page document, but it's a nuisance. The "find" feature works fine though on some other PDFs I've received. How can I get the find feature to work on that particular PDF?

A:"Find" not working in Adobe reader 11.0.5

I don't think you can. I don't know how it's done, but one of the security features that can be placed on a PDF when it's created is that it cannot be searched. I have also seen PDFs that can't be printed or from which you cannot copy anything.

Today is Microsoft Tuesday --- the SECOND Tuesday of the month --- on which Microsoft is expected to release its monthly cycle of Windows security updates.   Based on previous history, they should become available at 1 P.M. [USA - Eastern Daylight Saving Time]
Starting today, there is a new procedure:   Windows Update for consumer PCs will offer a [single] security monthly quality update (also known as the "monthly rollup") that will contain all new security fixes for a month... plus fixes from all previous monthly rollups.
A rollup is simply multiple patches rolled together into a single update. These rollups will replace individual patches . Each monthly rollup will supersede the previous month's rollup. The ultimate goal is for these monthly rollups to become fully cumulative, which will happen as the team adds patches released in the past, so users need only to install the latest single rollup.

Hi,
I'm working at a temporary assignment where I need to revise a document produced in Adobe Acrobat 4.1. Aside from paying for the full-propertied (paid) product, can anyone think of an idea that will allow me to, at the very least, make changes (even if I can't save them)? We do also use Microsoft Word 2000 -- if that's of any help.

TIA for your suggestions.

You can try to paste the contents of the PDF into a word document. In Acrobat click EDIT --> SELECT ALL. After all the text in the PDF becomes highlighted, click EDIT --> COPY. Then open your word document and right click in it and select PASTE. If any of the commands are unavailable in the toolbar menu just use the following keyboard shortcuts

CTRL + A to select all
CTRL + C to copy
CTRL + V to paste.

I have uploaded several PDF files to my website, but one is being stubborn.. I have several XLS files that I printed to PDF through CutePDF Writer and the PDF writer in MS Word2007. I got this message on a couple of them, but I wasn't able to get one of the files to display.

Error I get: "an error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly..contact the person who created the file..."

I changed the file name and "reprinted" and uploaded again, but I can't get this one to work for some reason.

I'm using WebEasy web builder, but I don't think this is the problem since I was able to correct other PDF files.

Thanks!

Are you able to identify which particular PDF documents were created with Word, and which were created with CutePDF?
Maybe those that have errors were all created with the same application? I suspect it will be CutePDF because I've always used Word to create my PDF documents and they've all opened without any errors in Adobe Reader.

I installed Adobe Acrobat 6.0 I can work with it, except that the box running top to bottom on the right side, with all different headings, entitled "How To" freezes up when I double click one of the headings. I get an hourglass next to the cursor, and finally do the "control-alt-delete" to find it is "not responding". I can get to the box by the headings above that have the same subjects, but if the box is there, it will freeze.

I want to know how I can use this convenient "how to" box, and why my cursor is freezing with an hourglass.

Thanks!!!

Hi, There is extensive help available at the support page for Adobe Acrobat.....seems there are several causes of freeze-ups, if you have winXP here is a page just about AR and XP.
Do you have an earlier version of Adobe software on there? That can cause trouble, it says...
Anyway, here is page for help. (XP) There is other pages for other OSes. Good luck! If not other way, ask the support people there for help, they might help!
