I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

This is a brand new custom built PC for web browsing for a motel lobby.

Win7 Home Premium
AMD A4-3300 Llano
MSI A55M-P33 FM1
Rosewill FBM-02 MicroATX Mini Tower

Running latest BIOS and latest drivers downloaded directly from manufacturer's website.

I tried switching between all 3 internal headers and none of them would detect the flash drive.

If I plug the drive in the rear ports it detects right away leading me to suspect the case's ports might be defective but I don't have another USB 2.0 card lying around to confirm.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

A:Front USB ports not working, but rear USB ports work…

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

So I'm sure this isnt' where this goes honestly but putting it out there just to try to help anybody else who struggled with this as long as I did... I ended up getting my two USB ports on the left side (turned out to be my 3.0 ports) to work again when they wouldn't recognize anything. I could use the 2 USB on the right 2.0 ports, but the transfer rate was terrible.  My response on another question where someone had a similar issue... good luck!  "Hi  Not sure if this will help you but I had the same problem, the two left ports were not working on my Dv7. This whole time I thought the right USB were my 3.0 ports so I figured it'd be okay but it's been over a year since I originally had this issue and was doing a bunch of system maintenance so figured I'd look through it again. Anyway, I went to Device Manager through the Computer Management tool. I know you can go straight to device manager, but just giving it to you exactly how I did it. You can just search computer management from Start.  So I selected Device Manager from the menu on the left side and it looked like regular device manager. Went down to Universal Serial bus Controllers... at this point I looked at the action menu on the right and selected more actions, view, and clicked Show Hidden Devices. Hey guys, brand new kid here. Fairly computer literate but not a whiz by any means. I had to do a Windows XP System Recovery on my HP desktop PC a few weeks ago and since then my USB 2.0 ports haven't been themselves.

Before when I used my Kingston 4gb SDHC card in my front USB 2.0 ports (as they're labeled) it worked at full speed with no problems. After the System Recovery, when I plug in the card it gives me a message saying "This device could perform faster if it were plugged into a High Speed USB 2.0 Port." The problem is, my Device Manager lists a high speed port and hub on my computer, but I get the same message on all the ports on my computer. I tried updating the drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling them but to no avail.

Is there any way to fix this?

Hi,

Are you trying those keys on startup or on restart?  If you've only tried on startup,  try on restart - or on startup after a full shutdown (SHIFT + shut down).

You could also try the advanced startup options from within windows.

Hello. I recently installed a Samsung 950 Pro in the P50.After some problems during the installation it seems to work fine, but.... The 950 pro supports AES Hardware encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard, Class0 SED).I also was able to use it with a normal SSD before. After I installed the 950 NVMe, the option for setting a harddrive Password inside the BIOS just vanished.  am not able to set any harddrive passwort and thus use encryption. Every other PW seems to work fine...I would like to ask why that happened there and I hope that some of you may be able to help me with that. Thank you very much,Greetz

A:Thinpad P50, Samsung 950 pro and password security

While 950 Pro presumably supports AES on hardware level (i.e. all data is encrypted prior being written on the flash chips), key management is still "to be supported by FW update" ( http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/ssd950pro/specificatio... ) If you want to encrypt your 950Pro, use Bitlocker or other third-party encryption solution. There is a performance and SSD wear cost associated with that, but it's negligible for most applications.

Hi, Have you tried to update your WLAN driver? System Update is a good tool to detect drivers and helps you to update them:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080136 I would try that first and if it still has the problem, try to respond with: - Operativing system (x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit)) (See Control Panel -> System)- Product Number (P/N)

Hello, My Thinkpad Yoga (model year 2014-2015) gives sometimes a white screen by startup, or after a softclose (for example when turn over from laptop to tablet mode). When I open and close my screen after a couple of times the screen is ok and I can work with it. I called Lenovo support because I think it is something with the connector from the screen to the motherboard. The computer was 2 months out of warranty so they say that I could send it to support for a check, what will cost me a lot of money for only analyse the issue. So I asked for another solution. They asked me to reinstal Windows and al the drivers, because they think that it is a software issue. Because there is a lot of software on my computer, and I need him every day for my work, I didn't have time to do this directly (first make a backup and then reinstall al the software). So I bought a new Lenovo thinkpad Yoga 260, and installed al my software. Dusty,

Do not confuse "external monitor" with "DUAL Monitor". The latter is what you apparently want. The former is what you have.

You can Google: Thinkpad 770 external monitor

and view item:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=PFAN-3PVSCN

which will confirm what you have with the 770.

Hey
Today i just bought some ear phones, with a connected mouth piece. Problem is that my two front ports are dodgy for the microphone and headphones. So if i put the jacks from my headset into the back, i have to take out my speaker input.. Is there any way i can have the speakers in, and the headset and revert back to each without going at the back and changing them? Any help appreciated
Thanks

A:Headset not working, front ports not working

First, its possible inside your computer case, there is just a loose cable that is causing the problem with the front jacks on your computer. Check inside, right behind where the earphone jack is for a cord running to somewhere on your motherboard or Sound card.

If that dosn't work,
Do you have a CD/DVD player with a earphone jack and have you tried that?
Assuming its the port that is bad itself and not just loose, you could check in at radio shack, bestbuy, or newegg.com for a cord that splits the output. If you get lucky you might find one with a chanel select that will allow you to swap which recieves the output.
The other option, from radio shack I got a Bluetooth USB adapter for $20 and a good pair of BT earphones, again purchased online for cheap (I recommend samsung BT500 earphones).

Another alternative, my speakers have a earphone jack in them as well (the computer speakers, as well as the reciever I currently have my sound card plugged into).

If you have a quality home theater set up, for $80 on new egg you can pick up a good soundcard with optical, Coax, and AV out which you plug into your home entertainment center that again will allow you to use headphones.
Good Luck

When i plug in my Xbox 360 controller the lights would turn green on the Xbox home button but then it would immediately turn off again. I doubt it's disconnected because this problem occured randomly when i never opened my desktop, except for the 2 in the front. I found this error and i think it has something to do with it just because it mentions USB . It says that window has stopped using this device because it reported a problem "error code 43". I know the front usb ports are probably disconnected but i'm just trying to fix the one in the back, because it has more then enough which is 5, but only 3 is working.. the other 2 isn't. 3. unplugged everything, shut the computer down. Unplugged the computer. Left it like that overnight.

I have searched for this problem and have found some information and have taken some recommended steps to fix the problem with no success.

I fried my CPU and after installing a new one none of the ports on the back of my box work. The USB ports do not work nor do the PS2 ports and it also appears that none of the expansion slots on the mobo work either. Fortunately the USB ports on the front of the box still function.

I tried deleting the USB drivers and reloading them. I tried reloading the motherboard drivers.

My board is a Biostar TA790GX XE.

I also have a couple of further questions.

1) I know that you usually cannot switch out a motherboard and use the same hard drive unless you through a process to make it all work. Is this still necessary if you install an identical motherboard? Can you put everything back on an identical motherboard and fire it right up?

2) Can somebody direct me to a good guide to doing back ups?

Thanks!!!

A:ports not working after new CPU

1) If you use an identical motherboard and nothing else was damaged then yes it will work.

2) I would make an Image rather than a backup, this is a very good free Imaging program :- http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 on an HP Pavilion a1013w with Pentium 4, 3-GHz processor and 512 RAM.

In System, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, everything looks normal, just like it does in any system where everything is working properly. There are no alerts on any devices. But, absolutely nothing happens when I plug a USB device into any of the three ports on the front of the computer or the four on the back.

To be clear, absolutely NOTHING happens--no ding, nothing on the screen -- nothing. I've tried three known-good USB drives of different brands that work well on other systems. Two were USB flash drives and another was a hard disk in an enclosure.

Updated the BIOS and enabled USB. I've also tried disabling it, rebooting and re-enabling.

I tried the on-disk HP System Recovery (formatted and all) and I've tried installing from an off-the-shelf Windows XP Pro CD.

Hoping chipset drivers might help, I've looked for them; but, I haven't found any on the HP site and I really don't know how to even look anywhere else.

I recently added a 512mb stick of RAM to a computer running XP. Immediately following, (perhaps by coincidence) none of the devices plugged into the USB ports are recognized. I tried two different devices, an HP Photosmart printer and a flash drive into multiple USB ports and none of them were recognized.

The new stick of RAM is posting, so I know the addition of the RAM may not necessarily be the problem. I have the most current drivers installed for the printer, so I know this is not the issue.

I read on another forum http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-vista-support/218291-usb-s-stop-working-when-i-install-more-ram.html
where a user reported having exactly the same problem while they were running Vista. The solution was to delete said corrupted USB files, reinstall the RAM and then plug the devices back in...

Does anyone have any insight into how to do this?

A:USB Ports Not Working/New RAM the Cause?

I agree the ram most likely did not cause the problem.

Check device mgr for any yellow marks. If everything looks normal, you can try this reg fix for usb problems. Note make a restore point before you begin this task. The following is a fix posted by John Will [another mod]

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG

-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

(using wireless and now cable)
So I have this problem where my internet isnt working even though I'm fully connected.

It started this morning and when I ran the diagnostic (from the "IE cannot open page" page) it said that

windows can't connect... using HTTp HTTPS or FTP... probably caused by firewall settings... check setting for port (80) port (443) and port (21)...

Via google I found a similar problem (http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/...s-443-ftp.html -if it helps) where the advice given was to reboot in Safe mode with networking.

I found an ethernet cable and plugged it in but when I tried starting up my computer in safe mode (all 3) it said that it couldn't due to power failure/power-reset button was pressed (neither of which happened I'm pretty sure)

It seems that the advice for this would be to get a diagnostic off of *wherever* but as the internet isn't working I can't.

Any advice?
Oh, and my dad was using it when it started and just said some pop-ups came up and he clicked something.

Thanks for reading and/or helping but could any advice be in laymans terms. thanks again.

Hello,

I recently installed a new hard drive and re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (FYI this is a retail version) on my laptop.

Now it seems that two out of the three USB ports on my computer aren't working. The ones next to the CD drive are unresponsive. The lone USB port on the other side of the computer works fine.

I've tried looking at the device manager but the USB drivers seem to be working fine, I didn't see any errors.

The only drivers that show up in device manger as not being installed are, PCI Simple Communications Controller, Fingerprint Sensor, Ethernet Controller, and Unknown Device.

The computer came integrated with a webcam so that may be the unknown device showing up in the device manager.
The laptop is a Toshiba Tecra A11-S3530 running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
Thanks
Nick

I have 4 USB ports total on my laptop. 2 on the right and 2 on the left. The 2 on the left work fine, and the 2 on the right used to work fine and now they don't work at all. No matter what device I plug into the 2 USB ports on the right, I get: "USB Device Not Recognized" I can put the Installation Disc in and run it from that as well and it still can't recognize the USB Device. (Even when using things that are ALREADY installed on my computer and they work just fine when plugged into the left USB ports. In my device manager, under my USB folder, there are no yellow flags or issues. No matter what the device, when I plug it in, I get a new folder made in my Device Manager called "Other Devices" and that has a yellow flag and under that there is a yellow flag and an exclamation mark next to "USB Device". How can I fix the USB ports on the right side? What's the problem?  Angie

A:2 USB ports not working.

Update: I did get the 2 non working USB ports 2 finally start working. I unplugged my computer from the outlet and took out the battery and put it back in after 30 mins and booted it up and they worked. However... I still cannot get my Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo to install. I know it isn't the device itself because I plugged it into another computer and it installed right away and worked fine. Everytime i plug it in, nothing happens. I open up Device Manager and see it is under "unknown device" - "usb receiver" with a yellow flag and an exclamation mark next to it. i click properties, it says: The driver for this device is not installed. (code 28) To reinstall the driver for this device, click reinstall driver. So I do, and it pulls up the hardware wizard and it always comes back saying it cannot locate the necessary software. It does this with the software disc in my computer or with it not in. It should install without the disc, but even with the dis and even with me downloading updated software it keeps always saying it cannot locate the software. Help???  What do i need to do to fix this? Angie

Hello. My computer usb ports just stopped working all of a sudden. I'm not sure what happened, but it could be related to a new entry in my regestry which is "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SERIAL" I only noticed this because I look into my device manger and there was a yellow(!) on a device called SERIAL so i looked it up. Also I did a hijackthis on it. I have Windows XP and having been using this laptop for well over a year now but suddenly as soon as I plugged in my iPod the other day, (Which I have done many times before without a problem) I get a message at the bottom of the screen telling me there's a power surge in my hub port. I also noticed that my iPod wasn't being recognized. So I unplugged my iPod, afraid that it would fry it or something and haven't used the laptop for a few days now.
Well, now I've decided to move all my files to a new computer seeming as how this one looks like it's going to have problems but the thing is, my USB ports won't recognize anything anymore! I need to be able to plug in my flashdrive one last time to transfer all my files but my computer won't recognize it. It's like the drivers are shot. I have no idea what to do, I really want to be able to transfer all these files before I ditch the computer. Help?

Oh dear, what have I done now?! I have a 6(ish) year old laptop running Windows XP pro. I've always used a hub to add USB ports, and have never had a problem until now. I think it was the phone that did it. I just got a new phone, and it has a USB charger (which plugs into a wall unit) but I assumed that also meant it could charge via computer (after all, my iPod does.) It seemed okay, though I kept getting little connect and disconnect sounds as if I were plugging and unplugging devices. It wasn't until I unplugged the phone that I noticed my keyboard wasn't working. Investigating, I found that my 7-port hub had no lights on but the little red power light. I plugged the keyboard directly into the computer and it works. Okay, I thought. I fried my hub. Dang. So I ran into the next room and retrieved my spare that I don't like so much because of the really bright blue light. Plugged it in. Same thing that happens with the other hub--I got a pop up window saying "USB Device Not Recognized-One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance...click this message." I click the message and get a box with a list of ports that starts with "USB Root Hub 6 ports" and below that is a list of ports each with a USB symbol in line. The first is bold, and just says "Unknown Device" and all the others say "unused Port".

I have no idea what to do with this informatio... Read more

I just bought a new Kingston Ultimate 32 GB USB 3.0 flash drive. It works fine in my 2.0 ports but will only light up in the 3.0 ports and Windows 7 64 bit does not see it. I have enabled the USB 3.0 ports in my BIOS and I have got the latest NEC USB 3.0 driver for my MSI P55-GD85 motherboard. The driver does not install correctly and in Device Manger under Storage Controllers I get ACS-6XXX pop up with a yellow caution flag when I do install it. I have tried other drivers as well, but no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A:USB 3.0 Ports Not Working

All right my ASUS board did the same thing.

The ACS-6xxx will have to be hidden in Windows Updates. Otherwise it willl continue to install it messing up the right driver.

Give me a couple of minutes.

This is drawn out but necessary. Go to Start> Control panel> Windows Update.
Then as in left picture click Change settings.
Then as in right picture change the drop down curtain to read as mine does. This will keep the ACS-6xxx from reinstalling after we get rid of it.

By the way you have no ACS brand hardware on your motherboard but neither do I.

That is step one.
Step 2 to come- deleting the ACS-6xxx drivers unless you already know how to do that.

Go into Device manager find all the yellow caution ACS-6xxx right click on each ACS-6xxx individually and left click delete. Rid yourself of each one individually.

Then go to MSI and get the drivers for your board. I think this is the right mother board below but double check.
NEC USB3.0 Drivers Ver: 2.0.4.0 should be the right one.

Today all 3 of my USB ports stopped working. They will still charge a peripheral, but they do not show up in "My computer" when I have a memory stick plugged in, and I cannot do a backup onto a memory stick.

I have tried switching off and on again, run a full system scan with Bitdefender and checked that all the drivers are up to date. I have also tried a variety of different Memory sticks. I run Win 10 0n a Acer E5-573.

Any other ideas?

I logged onto dell.com today around 4:30 pm est, to try to fix an issue with my desk top which is only a couple of months old. I started a chat with Mohammed and he said that there would be no problem he would fix my issue which was my USB ports are not recognizing anything that is plugged into them. He ask for my phone number just in case we get disconnected he will call me. He remotes into my system and starts downloading Dell click to fix during the reboot we get disconnected, so I wait for him to contact me since I don’t have his contact info he has mine. Checking my phone and email nothing, this guy just downloaded something on my computer then disappears. So I get back on dell.com chat and get Venkata which it like we are starting over again I told her to look at my account gave her my service code and then here we go she give me a link to reconnect with her in case we get disconnected. 2hrs later she is searching for drivers I asked why it takes 2hrs for drivers, she then down loads chip set again updates bio’s nothing works so she deletes all of my drivers including access to internet which that is how we are communicating. Then the system restarts it a good hour on the restart to try to configure, so I click on the link that she told me to use to reconnect to her. I click on it and I get a message wrong access code. I am thinking she has my phone number she will call. Nothing. So I go back on line and try again to chat and I get a message chat not availab... Read more

My friend says that ever since his sister used his computer, the keyboard and mouse didn't work. The lights on the mouse are off, but you can still access his bios using the keyboard. He already tried going into bios but said the USB ports are already enabled. The front USB ports dont work either. Sice he has no ps/2 slots, he cant use other keyboards or mouse. So he as no way of navigating through windows. He tried going into safemode but the mouse still didnt work. I'm all out of ideas. Anyone have any solutions?

A:All USB ports not working

Have you ruled out either the keyboard/mouse or USB ports? In other words, have you tried to plug anything else into the USB ports to see if they are still working?

Have you tried a different keyboard?
