Q: Killer wifi XPS 9560/horrible support

Here is the chat with the 3rd terrible Dell tech I've been with involving the bad Killer wifi cards in XPS Dell 9560s. I got transferred to him from another tech who had no idea what he was doing:

I have a new XPS 9560 with a Killer wireless card. The card is killing my local network even after updating it to the newest drivers. I had to downgrade it to an older Qualcomm driver to get it to stop doing that. But the card is still slow.

4:44:49 PM

I have read in other forums that many other people have this same problem and Dell has been getting them Intel card replacements, like here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/20006805/

4:45:00 PM

I'm hoping to get an Intel replacement.

I bought this laptop last week through the Dell site. IT HASN'T BEEN 30 DAYS. I have never had such an awful experience with any sort of support personnel in any company. This guy just literally cut me off without any warning, after I was transferred to him from another clueless tech who said the only solution was to replace the whole laptop (the problem is just a wifi card).
I am returning this XPS because of my terrible experience with Dell. I will *never* purchase another Dell laptop/PC ever again.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I don't know who designed this thing, but after fiddling with the drivers for 4 hours, those provided by dell, and others provided by Killer directly, both with and without the associated software installed, this thing still gives me 1/40th the internet speeds compared to my 4 year old laptop on the same router.
I guess I have no choice but to buy a 30 dollar intel 8265 and install it myself.
Given that some people have Killer cards that just work, I have to assume this is a massive QC issue.  Absolutely brutal performance.

I really thought that dell improved, but clearly no!!

You guys just refuse to learn from your past sins.

The SR number is attached, this is for a brand new top of the line XPS 13 machine.
This supposedly super piece of machine had debris in the screen.

While this is bad still acceptable, however what boggles me is the customer support.
I have been reporting this issue and have been pushed from one dell department to another...without anybody helping me.

Why can't you show some customer service empathy and solve my *** issue!!!!!

So I received my 9560 yesterday.  It has been largely unusable.  The problem being the Killer 1535 wifi card seems to be able to nuke my whole wifi network.  It only requires a few minutes of browsing the web (notice it particularly on Facebook) before the killer does something which causes my router to basically shut down the wifi side (router is a Drayek 2860n+ which has previously run for 2years without a single fault with many other devices).
I narrowed it down to the killer card by plugging in a belkin USB wifi adapter and the machine becomes usable and stable, but the second I re-enable and use the killer 1535 the whole network crashes.
A bit of googling would suggest this isn't limited to my router type and the Killer 1535 is extremely unstable and unfriendly to routers.
So far I have tried to install new drivers from the Dell support site, and also from Killer's website (drivers dated just 1 day ago, they seem to issue a new version every week, which is telling).
Any other suggestions on how to fix this?  Its taken about 12hours to get the laptop setup so I am very reluctant simply to return it.
Why on earth Dell ship this laptop with such unstable hardware is beyond me, searching the web I am definitely not alone.

I'm posting here after contacting technical support by phone and receiving little help. The issue is my brand new laptop that I believed was off top quality parts has what appears to be an inferior wireless card installed in it. The Killer wireless card seems to lose the ability to discover and connect to wireless networks, especially after resuming from sleep. The only solution I've found is to restart my computer. This happens about every other day.
Unfortunately, updating to the latest drivers for all components in the laptop has had no effect.
Dell agreed to consider replacing the wireless card with a much more industry standard Intel variant, but ultimately denied the request (after delaying the decision for over a week).
Needless to say, I'm frustrated and will accept any advice on the matter.

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now! I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

You do not state which type of warranty you currently have, there are a few which will affect how TS will or can respond. I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction...

We have purchased over 20 Lenovo E470 laptops.  These laptops come with TPM 2.0 on them, I simply asked Lenovo to either provide me the software to downgrade the TPM from 2.0 to 1.2 and I was told that was going to cost extra money, so instead they had me send the laptop back so they could downgrade the system.  This was in the beggining of January, I got the laptop back at the end of January with NOTHING changed. I sent several emails and have been ignored. Today I spent over an hour on hold and was told they cannot help me.

After so my research I ended up buying the P50 form OutletThe machine was advertised as 32GB but my parts says 8GB in parts lookup page And I was advertised as M2000M as graphics card but to my astonishment I received M1000M. I did open a case in the ManagedTechnicalAccess or so-called ThinkPad support area but they closed the case saying that they couldn't reach me. my phone. Yes, I am in business in Asia and what do you except Lenovo?I did reach the support number given in the ticket but after an hour of roundabout I ended up wasting my time with no proper resolution as everyone kept transferring me between the sales and IBM hardware support. I was given an opportunity to return the machine in 14 days but LOL, I would return back to country at least after three months as I am in business.I bought this as a replacement to the broken W530, which you need you can't fix it and all I had was P50 as ready to ship. As I was flying in a week I expected the machine to reach me at least as advertised but in all honesty, I never wished for such a surprise at 40,000ft.Now I don't have a proper workstation and sitting idle with a $1300 brick. I can't use them if I need to return them for a refund or I can continue using them but no refund would be provided and I can keep the machine. But Lenovo, I expect a little professionalism over here, I should be either given a part refund (the costs of missing part) or allow me to use the machine and accept return as I come back after the... By way of reference.  I have used thinkpads since at least 1999.   I have probably purchased over 200 machines for my clients over the last 18 years.   So I am not a Lenovo hater.   I would attempt to fax or email this to a customer advocate, but I cannot find them.  In fact, in the customer email from the support request in question, there is the following paragraph from the email from lenovo on 15 Mar 2017.

Hello. I am making this post because of my horrible experience with customer support. I purchased a Lenovo Y50 last year for school, and it worked great, until two weeks ago when the hard drive and keyboard failed simultaneously. I checked my warranty, and I have about a month left. So I decided to call in and see what I could do. That was the worst mistake I could have made. I am a college student, and I used a cell phone to call in to customer support. Not only was I on hold for 30 minutes, when I finally reached a representative I thought would help me, she told me I would have to be put on hold again, and transfered me to the warranty division for Lenovo notebooks. While being on hold, there is no music to let you know you are on hold, no robot telling you how long you have to wait, nothing but a pre scripted message that tells you to go to some website. I don't even know what the website is because the message was so faint. I eventually had to hang up because after half an hour no one responded to me, I had a class, and I wasted 30 minutes of my 100 minute plan. Mind you I am a college student at a university with a prepaid phone plan. I cannot afford to be on the phone for half an hour, much less 2 hours like some other users on here have said that they were. I should not have to pay money to tell Lenovo that they made a defective product. So here I am with nothing. A broken laptop. A bigger phone bill, and nothing to show for it.

I just wanted to relay an issue I had today on a newly installed Linksys Wireless Router. Setup was super easy, and a connection to the net was made in a few minutes.

I surfed for about an hour and a half, listening to music on You Tube, checking and reading email etc. After supper while my wife was talking to her friend on the phone, I could not get a wireless signal from the new router no matter what I did, and I tried two different laptops that were known to be connecting earlier. I suspected the new modem, and went through the setup procedure again twice to see what would happen, nothing.

Then it hit me, cordless phone interference! I hard wired a net connection to the laptop upstairs and googled cordless phone wifi intereference. That confirmed my suspicions.

Finally after my wife got off the phone, my wireless connection returned and is working right now. 2.4 gigahertz is the issue. I am going to research a new phone, but hate to spend the money as we have two phones, both cordless in fine working order with unique ringtones set up for familiar callers, and many many phone numbers stored in the phones, plus the system is a caller ID, and digital answering machine. Oh well. Just thought I would relate this story in case someone runs into issues down the road.

I have a new Lenovo P50 which was purchased for me by a friend while visiting US. Since the beginning there have been problems with touchpad not working. I took the laptop to Lenovo's authorised service center in Delhi twice, and both times was disappointed because the technician refused to look at the laptop making one excuse or the other. During the first visit, this guy was not sure if P50 was covered under international warrenty in India and wanted me to provide a proof that it was. I got in touch with Lenovo customer support and below is the email response I received.  Hi,

This is in response to your request. We want to inform you that all think products come under IWS. So, your product is also under warranty and you will get services in India.

Your system is having carry in warranty, so please go to service center for any services you required.

LenovoI was astonished by this reply, becuase this is something I thought the technician ought to know or could have found out easily without asking me to get this information myself and wasting my entire day. I went to the sevice centre the second time with this email, and this time he drops another set of requirements on me. He wanted the original invoice for the laptop along with a copy of passport of the person whose name is on the invoice, without which he will not even look at the laptop. This laptop was purchased from Amazon US and I had the soft copy of the inovice with me... I've had two Lenovo Yoga laptops, the Yoga 2 Pro and the Yoga 900 13-ISK.  Not a cheap laptop. My first Yoga developed a touchpad problem while still under warranty (10 months after purchase).  After TWO MONTHS of being in your service center and never being given an estimated repair date due to there being no replacement touchpads available (really?), I raised hell and you replaced it with my Yoga 900 13-ISK.  Which was nice of you, but horribly inconvenient. My Yoga 900 developed a USB-C problem.....and I again went through the service nightmare.  At least the motherboard was in stock, because it was only a few months after I got the laptop.  But it took another month without a laptop before I got it back. And while still under warranty, my touchpad developed the same loose double-clicking issue that my Yoga Pro 2 did, but I decided just to live with it because I was tired of being without a laptop and didn't want to send it off for another month or more (and, BTW, the touchpad was not in stock). So then, while the laptop was only 18 months old, I closed the lid not realizing a small 1/2 inch grape stem....a GRAPE STEM.... was on the keyboard and it cracked my screen, rendering it unusable.  And, of course, there were no OEM screens in stock, new or refurb, and they hadn't been for months.  So I was forced to replace it with a subpar aftermarket counterfeit that bothers me everytime I use the laptop.  As of th... I just purchased a Dell XPS 15 9560 less than a week ago and the WiFi is causing some issues.
The speeds are good when I am right next to the router but if I move into the next room over (less than 3 meters away) the speed slows down dramatically (to about 0.5-3 mb/s).
There are 2 older laptops in the house and both of them have good speeds from anywhere in the house. One of them is also a Dell although not an XPS model.

I have updated the drivers and BIOS and I have spoken with tech support on the phone but they were not able to resolve the issue either.
Could this be a faulty wireless card or antennas?

Anyone have Windows driver go south on this card, or an outright failure? Was just working and noticed the wifi dropped out. Device Manager said the card could not start (code 10). I uninstalled it (leaving the drivers) ... rebooted ... no change. Did so again, but this time, deleted the drivers ... rebooted ... and it's back and operational. So ... just a driver issue? Or is my card wonky? Machine is less than a month old. It's been rock solid since I got it. TIA! -kj-

I upgraded my XPS 15 9560 Killer WiFi with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265.
WiFi works flawlessly.
Bluetooth devices installed correctly ("This device is working properly") and visible: Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R), Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator and Microsoft Bluetooth LE Enumerator.
But Bluetooth can't find any devices.
I have tried Intel driver from Dell downloads and official Intel driver 20.0.0_64.
In Windows 10 x64 Bluetooth settings it just gets stuck saying "Your PC is searching for and can be discovered by Bluetooth devices" and never actually finds anything.
Any ideas?

You must actually connect (pair) bluetooth devices like bt headphones or other peripherals to get it to work. What BT devices do you have? The enumerators are not devices. See --

I was surprised that they do not admit that there could be something wrong with the card. When I search the internet, it is full of horror stories.
Luckily, I can return the laptop, so I am trying to do so instead of wasting my time. When I use an old wifi dongle, there are no dropped connections and it is faster than the killer wifi.
Does anybody else have the same issue? Otherwise, I like the machine and would hate to see it go. But, the horror of being supported by such staff for another year seems to outweigh all other considerations.

Hi,I bought two XPS-13 laptops which were both pre-installed with windows. I have since partitioned and installed Ubuntu on both. One of the laptops had persistent wifi issues disconnection issues. The wifi on the problematic machine was also unreliable at resuming from suspend, and had poor range. I was also seeing many PCIe bus errors in dmesg.
In an attempt to get some stability, I tried everything, from firmware, bios kernel versions, kernel/module parameters. In the end I decided to replace the wifi card with an Intel 8265, which has worked flawlessly since installation. One thing I did find while removing the killer card, which could be related to the poor range, was that the tension in one of the antenna coaxes had detached the barrel of the connector from the killer wifi card. the card was also not installed squarely within the pci express socket.
As for the other laptop, which has exactly the same operating system configuration; the wifi hasn't had any problems whatsoever.
So I think it is just "luck of the draw", my guess is that a certain batch of the killer cards have a poor manufacturing yield.

I am having an issue with the wifi signal on my desktop PC. I have a computer that I built with a m-pcie wireless card and installed the antennas in the front behind the plastic cover, just like my dell pc had them located.

I installed a new Intel 3160 Dual Band Wireless AC + Bluetooth Mini PCIe card Supports 2.4 and 5.8Ghz B/G/N/AC Bands.

When the computer is placed about 70 feet away from the router with no obstructions of view, it cannot find the network. But when I move it closer, it works fine.

Is this a setting problem, a hardware issue or antenna location issue? Please help.

Recently I bought the Dell XPS 15 9560 and has given me a lot of issues with the wifi and coil whine. The issue with the wifi is that, when I connect with my network, all the machines on that network are disconnected, en the machine itself can not connect to internet. The coil whine, the sound is so loud that it is not possible to enjoy the machine, the machine starts making a lot of sound when I fire up a simple process.
After encountering these issues I contacted Dell Service, and I could return the laptop and get a refund. Thanks for the great service Dell, seriously! But I really want this laptop, so when I get my refund I want to order the laptop again. But my question is, what are the chances that I get a laptop with the same issues again?
Thanks in advance!

So, my husband bought me a Lenovo Yoga Book last year for Christmas. I like it. I think it's cool to be able to draw on the paper (which is what I do traditionally) and have it show up digitized on the screen. I was able to do a couple of cool projects sketches on it, but I haven't used it to it's full potential I believe, so I put it down for a while. Then, I started to research different drawing apps, seeing all the amazing artwork that people were creating in these different apps and stuff, and it got me excited about going back to drawing on my Yoga Book. So, I went to try to draw in ArtRage, and when I would try to draw on the Wacom tablet with my pen, nothing would show up. However, when I would draw on the screen with my finger, everything showed just fine. I tried to update it several times, I tried starting it over, I tried using a different drawing app; NOTHING. The only time the pen would work on the Wacom Tablet is in Notesaver. Even if I had ArtRage open, anything that I try to write on the tablet will only come up in Notesaver. I wasn't trying to just factory reset it right off so I called technical support to see if there was anything that they would be able to do to fix it without me having to factory reset it.So, I called tech support and they told me that I would have to pay a fee of $40 to be escalated to their software support. I just recently had this problem with my internet that was caused by this certain file-sharing program named iMesh. Apparently the newest version doesn't go too well with Windows XP Home Edition, and it screwed up the operating system so that I wouldn't be able to access internet.

Now we got the computer fixed, but it required some heavy tinkering with the WINDOWS folder. As a result, some programs quit to work, but reinstalling them solved the problem.

Apparently not all of them, thought.

.avi files no longer work on my computer. When I try to play them on WinAmp, the infamous "this file doesn't exist" error happens. When I try to play it on Windows Media Player, it says "file type not supported". I tried updating my DivX codecs, downloaded Winamp 5, heck, I even got the XviD codecs. Still doesn't work. I have no idea of what to do.

hi, right basically i'm a student living with friends in a shared house and i;ve come to you guys before for help! but my housemate is having the problem this time.

he went to download a file from limewire, ahem, but once opened it projected multiple pop ups on his screen, changed the colour of his desktop items and put a search engine in the task bar. this has progressively got worse over a two hour period in which we think more trojans have been downloaded onto his system. the computer is running on 100-99% CPU usage most of the time! he now cant access most programmes including the internet, although this varies and he can sporadically access some programmes.

so er....i'm at a loss to do anything but analyse what i've seen and type that lot up there! so any of you fantastic people have any suggestions as to what the next move is it'd be much appreciated!

cheers guys.

Hi, PauL7.

Welcome to TSG.

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

So I have had issues with multiple wifi cards and Win 7 32 bit. The only ones I've gotten to work are laptop wifi cards, and have had some show stopping issues with certain Dell wifi chipsets. I know that a large number of wifi manufacturers use ralink chipsets which have many known issues with Win 7. I've had an old Linksys USB 54G that has worked up to Vista, then started giving me problems starting with Vista. They eventually sorted out the driver issues, but it's a big no go with Win 7, period.

I'm in the market for a new card, but I'm very reluctant to purchase anything until I have this answered. A good solid wifi PCI card (or USB, but PCI preferred) that has ROCK SOLID driver support in Win 7. Is there an HCL for Win 7 somewhere that I'm missing? I'm not seeing any wifi cards with the Win 7 logo just yet.

A:Terrible wifi support

Yeah, not seeing the HCL anywhere:

Hello folks.

After much head scratching I have discovered that the wifi 6300 card by intel featuring tri band connectors is no longer supported by them and broken in windows 10 creators update.

The symptoms are identical on two laptops.

When attempting to connect to a netowork you are prompted for a password
Once entered it thinks for a while then says could not connect
Now it says there is no wifi networks found. Restarting the pc and they are seen again but only for the same problems to occur.
Intel have confirmed these tri band cards are 'end of life', which is somewhat frustrating as this was the last card made in the tri band configuration, there is no replacement.
I have inserted a wifi 7260 card which only has two antenna in one of the machines and sure enough I get wifi again, however the bluetooth then misbehaves, saying that dell bluetooth module could not load error 10.

This is all very frustrating:

Windows 10 offers the latest software and security updates is fast and much nicer to use than 8 and quicker than 7. Its inevitable that end users will upgrade.
Windows 10 forces updates on users, there is not really a way to stop them
I have two perfectly functional i5 and i7 laptops here which function as modern fast hardware in all other aspects
decisions by large corps means that one of the most important aspects, wireless connectivity is no longer supported and no longer works
There is no other option, no other hardware, so far as I can ascerta... Read more

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need a wireless PCI express or standard PCI card.

Does this model support WIFI?  The on-line manual I found seems to say it does and that the wi-fi switch is on by default, but I can't get it working (message tells me my computer's wireless swtich may be turned off). Just came home with a new modem / install package from Rogers.com.  Modem works great wired...  Getting nowhere fast with attempts to wi-fi.  Gave Rogers a call and they tell me that the problem is that my desktop does not support wireless and that I need a new PC. Starting to wonder if the user manual I found is generic rather than specific to my model....  Can someone confirm whether this model supports WI-FI or not.  Assuming it does, any suggestions as to what my issue might be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ken

Alright, so I just installed Windows 7 on a seperate partition, and now I have two OS running on a hard-drive. I installed all drivers, but I can't get wifi running on it. I tried using device manager from windows 8 to find the driver required for wifi. After a few trial and error by installing drivers (mainly installing realtek and intel chipset) it still didn't work. How can I get wifi working on windows 7 on this laptop? Currently connected to the internet via a Ethernet, but that won't be the case in the future. Really need wifi for windows 7 to be complete.

A:Need help finding wifi drivers that support Windows 7

Download SlimDrivers App. It could detect what Driver you actually need.

If Device Manager shows Yellow mark on any device, post the Hardware ID of the Device.
