IE11 sometimes won't open with Windows 10

Q: IE11 sometimes won't open with Windows 10

Newbie here having an intermittent problem with IE11. Coupla' times a day I have to restart
Windows 10 because I can't get it to open IE11. Sometimes it's when I click on a link in an email, sometimes just clicking on the Explorer icon the basic framework of IE11 comes up, but with no URL and it refuses to take a URL. So I restart everything and it works fine. What's the problem here?

Preferred Solution: IE11 sometimes won't open with Windows 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No guarantees. Do a browser cache cleanup. If that does not help, then do a Reset of IE11.

Browser cache cleanup :
Open Ie11 > at the top, Tolls < Internet Options > at Browser history, click Delete > make sure the top 4 items are checked > click delete again > click OK when done.

IE 11 Reset :
Back to Internet Options > at the top, click Advanced tab > at the bottom, click Reset > follow the prompts.......

Just noticed that clicking on this option doesn't open it in file explorer like it does on my Windows 7 machine. I can browse my FTP drive fine from within internet explorer 11. It's not a major issue as I can type the address in file explorer and get it that way. It's just a little frustrating this option doesn't work. Anyone else notice the same?

It seems using file explorer to navigating to the internet ftp location is the only way to do this this in WIN10. It will not work from within IE11.

Hi I need to open 41 Internet Explorer (version 11 ) windows and then perform Screen Capture of each of them. The 41 pages are on the same intranet server. The web pages are made with OLD Adobe SVG, they autorefreshed by themselves.

I have a basic script/macro that brings the ?WinActive? by title, one by one, and save the ScreenCapture (image) from the Clipboard to jpeg image.

Currently my PC hardware is Intel I5 vPro, 8 Gb RAM, 250 SSD, Windows 7 Pro 64 bits

My problem is after 4 hours or so, the PC starting slowing down and my script abort, due to the decrease in the PC performance, when he is too slow to bring the next IE window as the Active windows

I have tied to clear my temp folder after each cycle, it help a little bit but It still crashed after X hours

Given that I want to a full refreshed of the 41 Web Pages within a 2 minutes threshold. I cannot Open and Close the Internet Explorer each time. So, I open my 41 pages in 41 tabs, and flip from one to the other with the script using the Title
of the page. Then restart the process

Currently I have No paging in the Virtual Memory (8 Gb only of RAM) but it was doing the same when it was set to "let
Windows manage virtual memory". Do 16 Gb of RAM or more would help me or other settings that I should set specifically?

My macro is made with "Macro Express", would it be better to use another macro software as AutoIt ?

I had started a thread earlier here, called "Cannot change name of New Folder. Can't add Search Provider".

Well, I reset the system to a System Restore that was quite old, and the renaming of folders problem seems to have gone away (at least for now). However, what is really bothering me is that IE11 is keeping track of every file I open on my computer, and when I click on the entry in History, it opens the file!

I have disconnected the computer from the internet, but desperately need help in terms of what to do!!!

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1607), IE only opens a blank page.

We could narrow that problem down - it apparently only occurs if Favorites are redirected to a file share and Enhanced Protected Mode ist enabled.

I am running Win 7 Ultimate x64 and IE11. Asus motherboard, Intel I5 processor & 8gb Ripjaw RAM.

When I try to open IE it flashes for a brief second then goes away. Firefox is working fine as is all other MS software currently installed. Below is a list of what I have tried by reading forums and searches. I have attached screen shots of the errors/results of each try.

1) Uninstall in elevated cmd prompt - "Operation failed - 0x80070005"
2) Uninstall IE11 - Error has occurred - "Not all updates uninstalled"
3) Turn windows feature on/off - "Error has occurred - Not all features were changed"
4) Install IE11 - "Operating system not supported"
5) Install IE10 - "IE10 already installed on the system"
6) Tried MS FixIT software - It runs with no result.

I have tried all options listed in Safe mode as well. Have also run windows update and restore to previous point.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your input! My next thing to try may be a baseball bat!

I have tried all manner of fixes for this wretched problem from sfc chldsk to dragging and dropping and trying to find a fix in the Advanced tab in IE Tools > net options and nothing but nothing works I either get the screen opening "maximized" meaning it opens in a slightly smaller area than the screen with the toolbars showing or have to hit the max button and it will open with the double square max button (see pic) and it will for while open in that manner before reverting back.

I know how to make it open full screen but that is not what I want.

My email (WLM) also opens with this double square max button and it is driving me nuts - any ideas anyone please?

A:IE11 will not open maximised

This is a problem had by many. Give this a try. Go to search by the start button. Type internet explorer. When you see it pop up, right click the properties then run maximized. You have helped so many, hope that we could do the same for you.
If that does not work
Open IE, stretch to the size you want, then hit the max button close. Now see if it works right.

I'm running Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I suspect the cure will be the same inrespective of Windows version. When I click on a download I get the prompt to run, save or save as (for executables). If it is not executable I get open instead of run. But only save and save as is possible. When I click on run or open (depending on file type) nothing happens, as I didn't click yet. The same issue happens whether I get the choice at the bottom of the screen or in the downloads window (depending on link, some give the choice directly, others open the download window). I have already reset the security settings and the advanced settings to default, nothing changed. Flash, Shockwave, Java are all updated. The "do not save encrypted pages" box is unchecked. I saw something about a corrupt iertutil.dll file. I'll try restoring that from backup or using the sfc command. Anything else I should try?

Thank you in advance.

PS: This is in the office PC, not the PC in my specs, but I have full administrator access, so I can try repairing stuff. And no there is no access or download restriction from any administrator. I can download everything in Chrome.

I work for a community bank using Windows 7 workstation and Internet Explorer. We run regular vulnerability scans on our workstations to make sure we are up to date and patched. On my recent scans it came back with MSXML 4.0 being past End of Life.
So I went out and downloaded the most recent version of MSXML, MSXML 6 SP3. At this point I did a mass deployment to my workstations, uninstalling MSXML 4.0 and installing MSXML 6. Since then a number of my workstation will not pull up web pages in Internet
Explorer 11. I cant think of any other reason that my workstations would have stopped pulling up webpages other than the installation of MSXML 4.0. I have tried to go back on a few and re-install MSXML 4.0 but it doesn't appear to have made any difference.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I completely removed IE11 from my computer...no reason except I want to use Firefox and want the clutter removed.

This appears to be the only unwanted result of having removed IE11.

Apparently there was a setting stored in the IE11 software that held the information to make Win Explorer open each request to open a new tab do so in the same window.

I believe there has to be a key in the registry that can be set to enable opening tabs in the same window but obviously I don't know what it is so I am in hopes that someone here can identify the appropriate key and tell me what its value needs to be to enable this function. I have no problem with editing the registry.

I have already tried to set the "open in same window option" in the control panel folder options applet but no joy.

Thanks very much if you can help me with this issue.

A:Removed IE11 - now Win Explorer will not open new tab in same window

Win Explorer, to my knowledge, is not natively multi-tabbed.

We have a mission critical program that now crashes because of the patch KB3160005 that was uploaded to all of our Windows 7 Professional computers on 6/14/16. When the employee tries to open a PDF in this program, IE11 hangs and the PDF will not open either.
IE11 must be shutdown. Our work around is to remove KB3160005 and then check for the updates and when it appears to hide it and this fixes the problem.

This update is shown to be critical according to TechNet and so I would like to know which one of the 5 patches incorporated into the patch is actually causing the problem and what we can do to fix it and not lose the update by removing it.
Windows 10 Professional will sometime exhibit the same issues with the same mission critical program, but the patch KB3160005 is not on any of the systems I have looked at, so I have to merely reset the browser and then all is well after that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is taking up all of the helpdesk's time resetting this patch and making our employees efficient again.
Thank you,

Does anyone know if it's possible to "tell" a pinned site on the Windows 8.1 Start Screen to open in a new IE web browser window? In this way, it would work much more similarly to how site's perform when they're pinned to the taskbar in Desktop
mode. It would also perform much more like any other app (that can be resized in Modern App mode, etc.) than just a glorified website bookmark.

P.S. I am not an IT pro (though I'm not opposed to dabbling with certain system files), but I was asked to post my question on this forum by one of MS's Support Engineers.

I would like to know about an error that happens on IE11 in WIndows7.

When I open html5 files, an error window with the message below shows up, and IE11 is forced to shut down.
Internet Exporer has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...
This error occurs as a Windows or IE11 error outside of JavaScript engine.

The name of the module where the error occurs is ?mshtml.dll?.

There is a problem within the loadManifest function contained in html5 files.
But the loadManifest is a common processing by CreateJS(PreloadJS) - JavaScript library provided by Adobe Inc. Moreover, no JavaScript error is found in this case.

Also, the error has been found only in the html5 files that contain both images and sounds.
I have never seen this error in the html5 files with images only, or sounds only, or none of them.

Is this error on IE11 specific to Windows7?

Or can it be happened in Windows8.1 or Windows10 if I use IE to open html5 files?
Also, can it be happened on Edge in Windows10?

we are soon to rollout IE11 (currently IE9 is in use). One question came up while testing the IE11 configuration: When you download a file (for eg pdf or docx) sometimes you can choose between "save, open, cancel", sometimes only "open, cancel",
sometimes only "save, cancel".
Which group policy is responsible for the possibilities? Even in local intranet zone we sometimes don't have all three options?!
Thanks for any help

A:How to configure download options in IE11 (save, open, cancel)

Any idea why?

The way I see it:  You say you don't want it cached, so the only thing you can do is save it; otherwise it could be reused for rendering.

Today, I did something that I had said I would never do; I installed Google Chrome. WHY???
It is very Simple; I have had a Gutfull of the issues IE 11 has been having in recent times - I tend to think after Updates, but not certain.
I last used IE 11 to open my Router Login Page ( 9/03/2016, with no issues. Today, 27/03/2016, I needed to go into my Router again. When given this URL it just shows "Cannot open Page". I will point out here that Firefox does not have
this problem; Bang, straight into it and up comes the expected Login Page. Google Chrome is the same as Firefox.
I checked my Wife's Win 10 Laptop, IE 11 and after some Security chasing around, it finally presented the Page. Her Firefox returned the Page in seconds.
So it seems there is some conflict of interest between IE 11 and Win 64bit Pro.
What the hell is Microsoft doing in these times; They have become Experts in stuffing what were once great systems; In fact these hideous seem to have come to life since the advent of Win 10.
Is the same Win 10 Mob who are hellbent on destroying Win 7, so that we will go Win 10. I can assure you that will not happen. If I have to lose my Win 7 Business PC; Then it will be to Apple, a Company that has something that actually works.
Can anyone throw any light on this issue, as I have not found a fix that works on the Forums that I have searched.
Thank You

hello and welcome skohon now personally I would download IE11 Download Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 from Official Microsoft Download Center - it says on my machine I already have it if yours does the there is something quite wrong.

If it is not on your machine then you save the above to downloads and then do what is in this Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

I have done this myself on odd occasions and it saves you having to muck around with updates.

First you might like to run this though in safe mode if necessary
Disk Check and run the /f and /r switches if necessary.

Is there a way to automate migration of favorites from IE11 on Windows 7 to IE11 on Windows 10 and maybe even incorporate Edge?

I know you can export the IE11 favorites to a html on Windows 7, save them on a network location, and import them again in IE11 on Windows 10. And after that import the favorites in Edge from IE11. This is all possible manually, but can be a little laborious,
and not all our users are very tech savvy even with step by step instructions.
USMT is tool that could be used for this, but that mainly for the profile and we only want the favorites to be migrated. And USMT is normally run locally (there are not supported ways of doing this remotely).

Does anyone has experience with this and would like to share how they did this?

Trying to figure out a global issue with are new  Windows 7 image at work in IE.  We have old PC's that we are replacing and on the PC's we are using an updated Windows 7 image but has the same IE 11 version 11.0.9600.18738CO on both images.
The difference though is that there is no security prompt to open PDF files on the old image.  On the new one we get the prompt to Open, save or save-as and trying to find a way to remove it.  Our guy that built the image did not set the Group
Policy intentionally if there is one for this.  I can't find a way to remove the prompt in GPedit.msc, missing the "Launching applications and unsafe file" is missing but yet i see the option under security settings in IE.  The radio buttons
are grayed out from making changes in that window.

Any thoughts?
