T500 Model: 2242-33U memory install

Q: T500 Model: 2242-33U memory install

I bought a Lenovo T500 Model: 2242-33U, which came with two 1GB memory cards. (1) If I choose to replace the two cards with a single 4GB card, do I put it in the top slot or the bottom slot?(2) How much performance improvement would I get if I used two matching 2GB cards instead? I?m not a gamer. THANKS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

any ram slot will work as for the 2gb x2 you will not notice that much difference, if you do get the 4gb stick you could leave 1gb in and have 5gb if it will work

I have a T500 and the specs say it will support 8Gb of DDR3. I am running WIn6 x64 and I updated the bios to the latest and greatest. Unfortunately when I put in 8Gb of memory I get some post errors. Each dimm works by itself, so the memory is good, which it is brand new so it should be, any thoughts? Frustrating since I have almost $500 invested in memory. I purchased 8Gb DDR3 1066 PC3 8500

A:T500 Memory Upgrade

tjnf04, Glad to see I'm not the only one with the exact same problem.  I am running Win 7 x64.  I can put in each new Corsair 4G DDR3 1066 PC3 8500 SODIMM separately and no problems, so I know the memory is good as well.  I can also put in new 1x4G and an old 1x1G for total of 5G and it works fine.  But put in 2x4G and get the beeps 1-short, pause, 3-short, pause, 3-short, pause, 1-short when powering up. So much for supporting 8G!  Hope we can get some answers soon!

The ThinkPad T400 and T500 datasheet states that it can handle up to 8GB of RAM, so it should work unless you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, in which case the maximum RAM that can be addressed by the OS is 4GB regardless of how much RAM you install.       The Windows license key is valid for both 32 and 64-bit, but to go from 32-bit to 64-bit, you would have to uninstall and reinstall Windows. Windows Install Media Download Links,https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Hope that helps,

I am trying to upgrade to 8GB of RAM in my trusty old T500.  I bought 2x4GB G.Skill sticks that appear to be compatible in every specification.  Here is the riddle:1) Both sticks are rejected when inserted into the lower slot.  I get a 1-3-3-1 beep every time. 2) One stick works in the upper slot with the original 2GB stick inserted in the lower slot.  I ran 6 passes of Memtest86+ on this configuration without seeing a single error and the computer is clearly using all 6GB of memory after booting. 3) The other stick will not work in the upper slot with the original 2GB stick in the lower slot and even Memtest86+ freezes with this configuration when I am able to boot at all without getting a 1-3-3-1 beep at power-on. It seems clear that one of the sticks is bad.  I am at a loss as to why the other stick will work only when paired with the original stick and only in one particular configuration.  The BIOS has been updated to the lastest version, 3.23. At one time, both of the new sticks would work individually when inserted in the bottom slot with nothing in the upper slot.  However, this was always inconsistent and neither one has worked in that slot since I disabled fast boot. My best guess is that some setting is being read from the old 2GB stick when it is in the lower slot that also works for the one good new stick.  As to what that setting might be, however, I am completely at a loss as the specs for the new... Hello Everyone. My dad has an old T500 that is totally messed up. I wanted to reinstall Windows but only have Win10. I have tried 3 times to get it up and running but after a couple of Win updates the system doesn't reboot. Can't say why for sure, but I want to try Win7 (which is what it came with). I have the Windows 7 key, still stuck on the laptop under the battery. I punch this into the MS download site for ISOs but it tells me it's OEM so I need the original disc (which I don't have). I tried getting the ISO with the HeiDoc Windows ISO Downloader but Win7 isn't an option, only 8+ I have tried to go through Lenovo support but my serial number sticker is ripped (see attached) and it's not shown in the BIOS. I tried entering the model number into support, but it tells me it doesn't exist (too old?). So, anyone have ideas on how to get some installation media from Lenovo or MS so I can try getting this up and running with a fresh copy of Win7?

You can, ideally it's a good practise to use Memory Modules in pair like (4+4GB=8GB or 8+8GB=16GB) in total. But as said it will even work with 12GB Memory, thread with similar discussion. Memory specifications- 16GB max7 / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets

Hi, I'm trying to find out just how much memory I can add to my laptop, it's Inspiron 17 model 3737, it has Kingston PC3L 12800S, 1600 MHz, 204 Pin, 4 GB install from dell and I was wanting to add 8 more GB to laptop to make it 12 GB, in reading thru some things on the computer it says it can support up to 16 GB of memory. But after reading in some of the forums people are saying that you can only add 4 more GB of memory.
I would hope some one out there can help me and tell me that yes 16GB is right, and just adding 8BG to have 12GB is fine,
Thanks
Ben

A:17R LAPTOP MODEL 3737 MEMORY

Hello, well I did some checking and to me it seemed I could add more than up to just have a total of 8GB of memory, so I ordered 1 stick of Kingston PC3L 12800, 1600 of memory the same brand of the 4GB memory the Dell 17r model 3737 came with, I wanted to stick with the same brand,So for the heck of it ordered and installed and well low and behold when I went in and checked system it is showing that I have 12GB of memory. So what it says of what I read on the computer was right, I can go up to 16GB if need be. But I think 12GB is more than enough memory for what I'm using my computer for, most web, and 2010 Office loaded like a champ with no problems. And is Duel Channel DDR3L SODIMM. So if anyone else is looking to up grade their memory look into your system and it will tell you.
But 30YEAREXPERT Thank you anyway for trying to help me and I do appreciate you time and help.

Hello, For the model in Subject, it's possible upgrade the  RAM? If yes, what is the max? Is also possible change the HDD to  SSD? Thank you.

A:Notebook model: 13-u105nl Memory and hdd Upgrade

The memory is upgradeable to 16 gigs of DDR4-2133 in 2 slots or 2 x 8 gig.  It can take an M.2 mSSD drive, but only as an alternative to a regular 2.5 inch hard drive. There is a single bay and port and which drive you install depends on the adapter used.  HP has not yet posted a Manual for the 13-u100 series but the Manual for the 13-u000 series is available and shows access to the M.2 slot and memory. Manual  See pages 42 and 56. Memory upgrade is particularly challenging as it requires removal of the motherboard.  Post back with any questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

A:B590 - Memory for Lenovo Model 59410449

Hi AC2000 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Based on the product specification for this model , memory :
8GB max7 / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3, non-parity, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets; * System automatically clocks down for processors with 1333MHz memory controller

This is the recommended Max memory supported for your model eventhou some processors can handle more (example : 15- 4310U handling 16 GB) since certain consideration are maintained by the systemboard and BIOS for full functionality and avoid non essential upgrades for users.

Your 6 GB ram probably have 2GB and 4 GB (PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3) at the moment so you can simply match the a similar 4GB to max it to 8GB and be able to use dual channel synch for faster communication and transfer.

Hope this helped answer your query.
Update us what works best for you.

The SSD you list is a SATA device.  The WWAN/SSD slot is described in the base spec as PCIe - and doesn't mention SATA.  It may be that SATA devices are not supported in that slot.

I am generally a Mac user, but wanted a PC to run a few apps I can't run on my Mac, and didn't want to partition my drive and use Boot Camp (I'd done this previously, and chose not to do it this time). A few days ago I purchased a Lenovo 110-15ISK laptop, model number 80UD0017US. I had been looking at an HP laptop, but read that it was not so user friendly when upgrading the RAM and hard drive, and passed on that one (for that specific reason), and saw this Lenovo in the local Best Buy on sale. I usually check things out pretty throughly before I purchase, but I have to admit, I didn't on this purchase. Although the laptop is nice, I was not pleased to find out that you pretty much have to disassemble half of the computer to be able to access the memory and hard drive. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Anyway, I've decided to leave the hard drive as is, since it's a 1TB (although I prefer SSD and upgraded my MacBook Pro to an SSD on day 1 and love it!). However, I definitely want to upgrade the RAM from 4GB. I was a little horrified to find out that the 4GB is soldered onto the motherboard, and that there's only one available slot for RAM. I've read up a bit on it, on both this forum and through Google and Bing searches, and it seems there are differing opinions on how much RAM this model can accept and still be stable. Some say it can take as much as a 16GB DDR4 stick bringing the memory up to 20GB, and some say that the max is a 4GB stick, bringing the RAM u... Read more

I don't have one to try, but there is a slot for a WWAN card or a 2242 M.2 SSD that is easy to access.  Remove the big cover and it is visible.  If you lay the machine down with the memory slots and the HDD toward you, it is above the HDD, to the left of the CPU.  The other thinkpads of that generation (T440, T540, W540) will all boot fine from the drive.

Hello, I am planning to buy T470,570 or P51s (not decided) with 500GB HDD. Can I buy a 2242 m.2 SSD from another vendor and have the Windows installed in that SSD and simultaneously use the HDD. I assume this wouldn't need any extra adapter. Read threads saying BIOS upgrade killed the m.2 2242 SSD and that made me skeptical about this. Please advice.

HI, Everyone     I just bought my first T580 and got a Transcend MTS-400 128GB M.2 2242 ssd to do a custom upgrade my self. After carefuly watch the Lenovo tutorial video on Youtube, I installed the ssd on the 2nd PCIe slot. After boot into the  Bios, the Bios couldn't detect the new ssd. Updated the Bios to the newest version and still no luck. So I spend some time searching online and found the following post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T470-unable-to-detect-M-2-SSD-2242-after... It looks like some compatibility issue with certain brand of m.2 2242 SSD. I wonder if that's the case for my new T580? Does Lenovo ever comes out with a list of m.2 ssd that their Thinkpad is compatible with?

Hi. I've just received my T460s and a Transcend 2242 512GB SSD card, but unfortunatelly this ThinkPad doesn't detect the SSD at all. I'm disappointed because I was sure I read somewhere that it was technically possible to do that on the WWAN M2 slot, but now there are other reports telling it's not working. My question is: is this a hardware limitation or is it possible that a BIOS update can enable SSD support on the 2242 slot? This would be ideal to me so that I can have Windows 10 and Linux with dual boot, without sacrificing storage. Thank you.

Hello everybody I just can't find the proper model of the Radeon graphics card of my laptop. I need it to download the proper driver, because I'm having issues with the flash player of Chrome. When memory is full the screen blacks out and don't come back. I searched on the forums and found this topic https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-B-and-G-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-G50-45-80E30142IN-AMD-A8-Graphic... regarding of the model, but it's MTM is different from mine so I decided to start a new topic. Data of the laptop:Model G50-45MTM80E301CALMSN PF09B3ML  Thank you in advance!
