I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi foleyfan,

Please see the article at http://www.broobles.com/imapsize/th2outlook.php which deals with this issue. The only difference in your situation is the need to copy the emails from the old laptop to the new one before importing into Outlook.

Hello, I am having trouble with Outlook 2003 SP2. When sending pdf attachments as either plain, html, or rich text, the user gets winmail.dat file attachment. I tried just sending as plain, and that still doesn't work. I check all tools options settings and everything looks fine. What else can I check to get this working. It works for some people, but not all. I send this to someone else and they get the pdf attachment.

I am running Microsoft Windows Vista Professional SP2.

Since installing Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, Windows Mail has been popping up error windows.

After I process mail thru Mail Washer Pro v6.5.3, it brings up WinMail, then after reading and/or replying to messages and then closing WinMail, WinMail pops up a box that says:

Windows Mail has stopped working.
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem and try to restart the program.
Check online for a solution and restart the program.
Restart the program.

Here is a link of the .jpg error:

Before I can click anything, WinMail starts itself again. :-(

It's intermittent. Sometimes it does it, then it doesn't.

Anyone else have this problem, and maybe a fix for it?

Thanks in advance,

Remove Kaspersky Internet Security - it's firewall is the likely culprit. You can always reinstall should you wish to.

In January 2008 I installed a new hard drive on my computer and uploaded Vista Business, reinstalled Office 2003 Suite. I was told there should be no conflict between the two. The first time I opened Office 2003 Outlook, I noted a problem. Certain incoming e-mails were not rendering properly; they rendered in raw format instead of rendered format.

When I opened the e-mail, the first thing I would see was the expanded header in the body of the e-mail where it should not be; next came the body of the message that I should see if the e-mail rendered properly; next came the html source coding.

These e-mails are a mess. There seems to be a few hints to the problem. First of all, all these incoming e-mails have my e-mail address in the bcc field. Second, the e-mails are in MIME format. Some of the e-mails actually come in with a message below the expanded header that states, "This message is in MIME format. Since your mail reader does not understand this format, some or all of this message may not be legible."

I have contacted Microsoft about this problem; they aren't interested. I've tried talking to their tech support people in India about this problem but they do not have sufficient command of the English Language to be able to discuss it intelligently. Judging from the Microsoft User Forum, this problem is more wide-spread than Microsoft would like to acknowledge.

I've done everything I can think of to resolve this issue. Nothing seems to work. I ... Read more

Is there a way to do this.

I just put in a new hard drive and installed the latest version of Office 2007. I kept the data and archive files from Outlook 2003 so I could import them into Outlook 2007 and get back to business. However, that did not happen. It was able to read and bring up most of the data, but I am missing some folders which are critical.

The critical folders are folders that were created manually. They were used to store email messages that came in that were important. They were simply dragged from the Inbox and put into that folder. There were also folders within that folder. I'm not sure if these folders and subfolders were in the Inbox or not. They may not have been.

The way I imported it was by going to TOOLS>ACCOUNT SETTINGS>DATA FILES tab>and pointed to the old PST file.

I also pointed to the archive.pst file as well, but later went to FILE>ARCHIVE and pointed to the old archive.pst file in there. Bot ways did not reveal the folders that are needed.

Is Outlook 2007 not able to read all data from Outlook 2003 pst files, or is there a fix for this?

Please advise.

A:Move from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007 not successful; not reading certain folders

I purchased a new Notebook with Office 2007 installed and copied over my Outlook 2000 pst file. I also had manually created folders for filing important emails. Mine were sub folders within the Inbox folder. Everything copied over, but I could not see the manual folders at first until I double clicked the Inbox folder in the side panel and then they spilled out. I would look for them in that panel and double click anything there starting with Inbox, Sent etc. Also try doing a search for any subject or address of an email you may have saved.

When copying over the pst file I think everything is copied. Appears you did not just copy contacts for example, but the complete pst file. I think the folders are there as Sub Folders, just hidden within one of the main folders such as Inbox.

Is there any way to move the cached contacts to another PC.....

For example; if you send an email to a new email address, (say [email protected]) outlook saves it somewhere, and the next time you type K, that address, plus all the other ones beginning with K will drop down.

The email address is not in the address book, as it would have had to be added manually.
If someone know where these contacts are stored, and if they can be moved, it'd be a great help.

A:Solved: Outlook 2003 - how to move cached contacts to a different PC

The auto-complete suggestions in Outlook come from what is called a nickname list that is generated by Outlook over an extended period of time. The files that are used with the nickname list have the extension .nk2 and are usually stored in the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\your-profile\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
These .nk2 files may be hidden so make sure to enabling viewing of hidden files within Windows explorer. Once you find the files you can try copying them from one Windows profile to another to see if the auto-suggestions will be transferred. I've never done this myself but I would assume the you would need the same contacts in your contacts folder or address book as well.

You can also type the first few letters of an email address and press CTRL + K to autoresolve the address or bring up the list of possible values to choose from.

This appears to be a common problem, with many solutions, though I have yet to find one that works for me. When using Outlook 2003 with Word 2003 set to be the email editor, Word opens and works fine to CREATE a new email. However, when trying to REPLY TO or FORWARD an email, I get the error message "Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The outlook email editor will be used instead...," and when I click OK to that message the native Outlook email editor opens. Word 2003 worked fine with Outlook 2003 replying to or forwarding emails till this morning, but the behavior described above now applies. The OS, by the way, is Windows 10. I have tried to both "repair" and "reinstall" the 2003 Office 2003 suite, both to no avail. Would appreciate a much needed solution to this puzzle.

Hello,

I originally posted this question on November 3, 2010 in the Email section and in spite of many views, there were no replies. That is when I thought I might be going about asking the question the wrong way.

Windows XP - SP3 Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook 2003

I use Word as my email editor for Outlook. I had had a problem or two awhile back and I used the Detect and Repair Function that comes with Outlook 2003. Problems cleared up HOWEVER I got a new and IMHO worse problem: my emails that are advertisements like Newegg, TigerDirect, Overstock, etc. are fine but anything else that is actually text that is sent to me comes in very, very small and I can not find a way to change it. I have looked everywhere in Outlook; Microsoft online, and Google. Sample attached.

I can't find it and it is driving me crazy. If anyone could help, I'd sincerely appreciate it!

Thank you for your time.

hi
We have a product that works with windows 32-bit version of OSes. Now we are about to support the 64-bit OS. We didn't do any changes to software and knowing that 64-bit OS can still support 32 bit applications.

The software works fine on 64-bit Vista Ultimate and throws error on 64-bit Vista Business edition. We performed this tests on two machines and they have same hardware configuration. Only difference is the OS.

Software that we developed communicates to external device using USB TO serial (COMM) interface.

Every time the software tries to communicate to USB to serial interface i am getting following error message.

Error running "C:\program files(x86)\...\COM_HOOK.EXE" Error = 216.

It appears that meaning of the error code is ERROR_EXE_MACHINE_TYPE_MISMATCH.

If the exe type is mismatching how it is working on Ultimate and throws error on Business edition.

I even did the windows update on Business edition and reinstalled the USB to serial interface driver. Still I got the same error. Looks like I have to do some update on vista business but I don't know the exact update. Or am I still missing the details?

Thanks in Advance.

Recently I purchased a newer version of Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student edition, which does not have Outlook included. If I install the newer version of Microsoft Office, will it remove my Outlook program? If so, I need to know how to export all of my contacts and email folders from Outlook to a web based service like Time Warner Cable (Roadrunner). I thought for a brief moment for you what might help.

Simplest solution to try first is a system file check to ensure all of them are Vista. Any problematic ones, corrupted ones or incorrect versions found have a good chance of automatically being fixed. This may then allow upgrade install.

Worth a shot, for sure, as it's simple enough.

I have a large number of folders, several thousand, that I use to keep student tests and forms for our free online Bible College.
A new problem has developed, starting October of 2009, which is now increasing in the number of folders affected.

The email tests and forms will come in with one Subject line but something totally unrelated in the body of the email.
Example: The Subject line will say "The Bible One Quiz Results" but the body will contain the test results for Salvation 5. And the file that is in the body is many times very repetative over several email submissions from my students.

This started out with one folder or sub-folder showing scrambled email in October of 2009. Now it is up to 7 or 8 folders and seems to be increasing in frequency.

When I try to move the folders to a neutral unaffected folder, many times they will not transfer over and then I get the message that the email cannot be found.

Even when I forward the email to myself and give it the true name of the test in the body, when it arrives it has a different test in the body than it had when I send it.

What can be done to correct this problem. These are educational files for online students and I cannot take the chance of loosing them and then have to have the students take the tests or resubmit the forms all over again.

Have I just reached the max for Winmail's ability or is there a corruption problem somewhere in the program?

I'm using Outlook 2003 in Win7 and trying to send an excel .xls file to a mac user and he keeps getting a winmail1dat file. According to Googled how-to info, this is what happens if you email in rich text format which I am not. I'm in HTML mode. He can receive .xls in plain text. Another mac friend gets the same .xls file in HTML just fine. ???

Any suggestions without sending in plain text just to this one user everytime?

A:Outlook 2003 won't email .xls files to a mac

Tell the recipient to save then rename winmail1.dat to winmail1.xls. He/she should then be able to open it in Excel.
I've no idea why they are receiving it as a dat file.

I had a problem with email showing sent - actually residing in the “Sent” box but no one was receiving any emails from me regardless of being replied to or new.

After hours of trouble shooting it came down to the signature.

With signature removed I can now send email that is received.

Any signature I include stops the email from being received. This just started happening about 2 weeks ago.

Anyone know of any fixes ???

Within the past five days, I have been having trouble displaying some of my HTML emails. I don't recall making any changes; however, I suppose must have. I am using XP and Outlook 2003. Now, when viewing many of my HTML emails, they come through looking like the one below. However, it is important to note that it is not ALL HTML emails...only some. I'm guessing it may be a security setting, but I'm not sure.

Here is an example: (What just a few days ago came through as a friendly HTML format..now appears like this)

Hello..
Outlook 2003 is giving me a hard time...
this morning when I was checking my email, my whole in-box had been transfered to the junk mail folder. By an old habit I emptied the folder before i noticed it contained messages which were not junk mail....
Is there any way to get them back... I've have Norton protected recycle bin, but no luck...

A:Lost email in outlook 2003

The Emails are most likely gone for good. When you delete email from Outlook the program does not send the files to the Windows Recycle Bin but sends them to the "Deleted Items" folder instead. The Junk Email filter in Outlook2003 deletes any mail in the Junk Email folder permanently and by-passes both the "Deleted Items" folder and the Windows Recycle Bin. If your program is misbehaving then there is a very slim chance that the Email was routed to the "Deleted Items" folder but it isn't likely.

How do I setup an email template to open when I select New with a jpg picture as the header, the curser open under it and then the normal signature...with spell check working for the text? Would be best if on reply it did not have the header (different template?)
