I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

im trying to share files over my network, but for some reason my computer keeps telling me that i am unable to because "The Server service was not started".

So i went into my services thing is administration tools, and low and behold it isnt running, so i click on start, but it doesn't start and it tells me that "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." the file i believe is svchost.exe, so i went to chk in the system32 folder, and it svchost.exe does indeed exist.

any ideas on how to get it working ?

A:Server service not running and unable to start

That can mean that it can't bind to port 139 on your IP. Check your network card properties such that "File and Printer Sharing" is enabled.

A:Unable to start a DCom server error

Does not appear to be serious. DCOM errors typically mean antivirus software, firewall software, or router settings are not configured/working properly. Are you experiencing any issues with the system?

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
When asked, save the display information in English.
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Create a new folder by right clicking in a blank area within the folder Errors.evtx is saved in. You could also click New Folder at the top of the directory under the directory path box.
Name the new folder Errors.
Place Errors.evtx and the LocaleMetaData folder into the new Errors folder.
Right click the Errors folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.

I am having problems with my computer. I cannot seem to update anything. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I first noticed that Adobe, Java, and Microsoft Security Essentials would no longer update. I have not tried to use Microsoft Update, but I am certain that would fail as well, which is why I have not even bothered. Every time I tried to update one of those programs, I would get an error saying that the server was unavailable and to please check my internet connection, or it could not update due to an internet or network connectivity issue. However, Malwarebytes Anti malware will update the definitions just fine, for some reason. Microsoft Security Essentials shows the most recent definitions as Jan 4, 2014, so it would seem the problem happened around that time. Running a manual update of MSE definitions gives me an error of 0x80080005. Well, the browser was showing web pages just fine, so after some googling and searching around, I realized that the "Windows Update" service and the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" were not running. Attempting to restart the computer and manually "start" either of these services would bring up an error message. Trying to manually start Windows Update service gives the error 0x8007277a. I tried to use Microsoft's "Fix-It" solution which also immediately gave me an error saying that the computer failed to connect to all of the servers required to run it, thus it failed. I... Hi, Welcome to forums.

This could be an issue with third party winsock. You can reset winsock. Here's how you can do it.

1.Click the Windows Start button.

2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter (keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator). Click Continue to allow elevation request.

3. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

4. Type netsh int ipv4 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

5. If you use ipv6, type netsh int ipv6 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

Note: you may need to run Network Diagnostics afterwards to "repair" your connection after this.

Hi techguys,

I am running Windows XP SP1, AMD Athlon XP 2600+, with 1GB or RAM. I recently purchased an X-micro bluetooth adapter. What I want to do transfer some freeware applications to my Samsung D500 cellular phone.

I access my Network Connection, and choose to create an advanced connection to another computer directly, using COM5 (the port set aside for bluetooth). When I get to the Network Connection Wizard's Host or Guest Page, I select my computer as host, and I click Next. The computer thinks for a bit, and eventually, I get presented with an error saying "Incoming Connections depends on the Routing and Remote Access service which was unable to start.". I checked the Event Viewer and got this message:

"The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 340 (0x154)."

I have checked on the Internet for solutions, the majority say that I should check that NetBIOS is enabled in my TCP/IP network settings. This I have done, and it is indeed enabled. The problem still persists. I am unsure what other services Routing and Remote Access depends on.

A friend mentioned that it might indeed be a problem with SP1, and that I should reinstall it. This seems a rather drastic solution though.

Would anyone kindly help me with this problem? I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
Ducky303

PS: In Event Viewer, I also found another error but I am unsure how it is related to the above problem. The error is for perflib and says:

Been getting this error for years and can't access certain control panels directly (but can through full control panel) like desktop "personalization" (clicking any links under "See also" in this window does nothing). Control Panel refuses
to show its cascading menu in the Start Menu too.

06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B is COpenControlPanel. I searched for these in the registry editor but couldn't find the command-line used in the error which, if I run in a command prompt,
gives this error:
This version of C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dllhost.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
If I run c:\windows\system32\dllhost.exe /processid:{06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B} it works fine. How do I get DCOM to use the 32-bit dllhost.exe? I've tried the backup 64-bit dllhost.exe in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-com-surrogate_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_43fa44d954d596e7

I believe they are Intel drivers but have failed to find a remedy to this problem.
Other than a real slow startup there appears to be no other problem.
Am I the only one with this problem and anybody know the cure?

So, you figured out where the problem is but why didn?t you installed another intel graphics drivers? I mean, you know where the problem is and you can resolve it.

Otherwise, if a reinstall does not help it would be better to completely recover your system to eliminate the problem.

System was running fine untill about two days ago. File and print sharing stop working. went to services and tried to restart "Computer Browser". It would not start due to a dependancy. Tried to start "Server Services" Got the following error. "Can not start Server Service on local computer, Error 2:The system cannot find the filed specified".

The files srvsvc.dll 95KB 4/14/2008
The file srv.sys 327KB 4/14/2008.

If I delete either of these files they are just created again. If I replace them with the new versions they are converted back to these files.

I am running XP Pro SP3.

A:Unable to find Microsoft DHCP Server Service.

What operating system are you running? Windows XP Home and Pro do not include a DHCP server so I question the appropriateness of Microsoft's suggestion to stop a service you may not have.

If you mean DHCP client, then that can be turned off. However, you need to assign a static IP address and configure your router or modem to not try assigning the same address.

Hi !

However, the automatic update tells me there's no update available for my computer, and if I try the Windows download center, it just doesn't work, and there's a choice of 4 or 5 different SP1's which all look the same to me... I've downloaded several, but get absolutely nowhere.

Would I automatically get SP1 if I bought a newer version of Windows 7 or if I upgraded ? The one I use is family premium and is about 2.5 years old.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The auto-update of Mcafee was interrupted and ever since I cannot update it. I get this message: unable to connect to mcafee total protection service update server. The Mcafee help guide is of no help. I have Mcafee 4.9.2.253 two months trial version (still 10 days to go), vista, wireless, broadband. My internet works alright for everything else. Any suggestions?

Have you tried un and re installing it? Are you planning on purchasing it? If so do that and then reinstall will probably fix the isue. If not then remove it and try another. WE can recommmend others.
Do you have amalware problem going on ? That can also cause this.

With a fix like this it is always best to start with a System Restore point. Neither of us know the true effect that the update will have.

FIX: You receive an "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" error message when you stop or pause a managed Windows service

My DNS server client won't start, error 1075. I have traced this to the NETIO Legacy support driver which the DNS is dependent on not exisiting and am unable to find this driver in the non-plug and play drivers in device manager. I have run sfc/scannow with no errors returned. There was some malware that has since been cleaned and the most recent Malware bytes came back with no issues. I am able to access the internet with no trouble but cannot access all shared drives within my domain or all network printers. I have a feeling enabling the DNS and IP helper services will solve my problems but I am open to other solutions. I tried to run a system restore but there are no restore points early enough on the system. I'm open to anything short of re-installing windows.

Thanks

Hi guys,
I had a problem with my PC with WinXP SP2 installed. The problem was that many services were crashing over time. Also in the taskmanager, in the processes tab the sercives which were running, did not have any name under the User Name except for the System Idle Process which had System uder User Name.

So, I repaired the installation using my WinXP SP2 CD. Now the services are working fine. But when ever I try to start Fast User Switching Compatibility & Themes services, I get the following error (see screen shot) and am unable to start the service (even after several reboots)
Plz help.. Thanks in advance...

Set the drive letter back as it was, move the database to a safe drive, then change the drive letter and move it to there after. Or install another instance.

Hi Friends,

I created a new Windows Service using C#. And Created a windows application to CREATE SERVICE, START SERVICE, STOP SERVICE and DELETE the SERVICE. This application is working fine when the UAC is turned OFF. When the UAC is
turned ON then none of the above operations are working.

1. Can i create a Service without Admin Rights, for creating am using the following

IntPtr sc_handle = OpenSCManager(null, null, SC_MANAGER_CREATE_SERVICE);
if (sc_handle.ToInt32() != 0)
{
IntPtr sv_handle = CreateService(sc_handle, svcName, svcDispName, SERVICE_ALL_ACCESS, SERVICE_WIN32_OWN_PROCESS, SERVICE_AUTO_START, SERVICE_ERROR_NORMAL, svcPath, null, 0, null, null, null);
CloseServiceHandle(sc_handle);
}

[DllImport("Advapi32.dll")]
public static extern IntPtr CreateService(IntPtr SC_HANDLE, string lpSvcName, string lpDisplayName, int dwDesiredAccess, int dwServiceType, int dwStartType, int dwErrorControl, string lpPathName, string lpLoadOrderGroup, int lpdwTagId, string lpDependencies, string lpServiceStartName, string lpPassword);

2. Can i start the Service without admin Rights

Can any one please tell me how to solve this issue.

Regards,
Nidheesh

A:Unable start a service when UAC is Default (ON)

My understanding is the UAC defines user admin roles. Therefore, admin rights would be required to start a service.

This is actually a problem I've had for quite a while now: the ymc service instantly closes when i try to start it. My device first came installed with windows 8 (it's 3 years old now) and even after installing windows 10 i was still able to easily go into tent mode or tablet mode when rotating the screen (This was when lenovo transition was installed). After a while lenovo transition started acting up, so I thought I might had to update the program. At this time Lenovo moved on to yoga mode controll, so I installed that, but that didn't help either. Now I did try to look for solutions, but non of them could fix the problem. The laptop is still fully functional so it's not really a big deal, but it would still be kinda nice if I could get that feature back somehow.

Hello Everyone,

This is my 1st thread, so i'm naive about the categories under which the issue i'm facing falls. I've a jar file which contains a very simple program of displaying "Hello" message in the console.I've pasted the code at the end of this thread.I want to run this jar file as a windows service.This service gets started without any hiccup,However,It simply wouldn't start the service.

I've tried running this service as using NET and Sc command.But in vain.Below is the error i'm facing

C:\Windows\system32>sc start MajaService
[SC] StartService FAILED with error 193.

Further, as a workaround I created a .bat file for executing this .jar file and again tried creating a window service for this .bat file,In this event i get the followingh error:

[SC] StartService FAILED 1053:

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

and below is my program:

import java.io.*;

class Hello implements Runnable
{

Thread thread;

Hello()
{
thread = new Thread(this, "Hello1");
thread.start();
}

public void run()
{

try
{
while(true)
{
System.out.println("Hello");
Thread.sleep(500);
}
}

catch(Exception e){}

}

A:Unable to start .jar file as a window service

A few things I've noted on that:

First of all, to run a program in Windows, you need an EXE, not a jar. EXEs are the only really executable things on Windows, so I guess you need to compile your program first (I don't do any myself java, so can't help very much with it).

Second, programs need an special "contract" to work as a service. Your program, in addition to do its normal work, needs to call and attend to some predefined Windows APIs that interact directly with the service controller, to do things such as responding to start/stop/pause events and to report its current status. Your program simply prints a string to the console regularly and fails to do such protocol, so it will never be recognized directly as a service.
There is a workaround however. MS created a small executable called "instsrv" that allows any program to run as a service (in fact, it does all the service's API calls and thens runs your program). Here's the details on how to do it: How To Create a User-Defined Service. I've done that myself a few times on my work and works good enough.

Most important, it seems that you're not understanding correctly how a service works. A service is meant to be a background process, something that runs all the time totally unattended without intervention or any input or output. What you want just violates that principle, because services don't show a console or any kind of window for the matter. Additionally, starting with Win Vista/2008, t... Read more

Hi everyone,

I apologize beforehand if this seems like a stupid question. I dropped XP to go to Vista for various reasons (I really wished I hadn't). Anyways, for other reasons I have to go back to XP. One of the reasons I left XP is because my server is not listed in services in administrative tools. When I try to start the server from command prompt with "net share" or "net start server" i get a service name is invalid message (nethelp msg 2185). I have an xbox that I use to stream music, movies, etc. Since the server service is not working, I am unable to share and now my XBOX is pretty much a big paper weight. I have looked tirelessly for a solution with no success. I figured since I read these forums all the time I might as well ask for some help. Anyone know how I can reinstall server service to allow sharing? Again, the server is not listed as a service in services.msc. Sharing folders is also not possible as there is no "Share" tab in properties. I have reinstalled srvsvc.dll into system32 but no success. This sucks because I cannot share any files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I installed some patches on a Windows 2000 Server the other day, all from Microsoft. Now when I boot the machine, I get an error that some services could not be started, and my backup software (Veritas Backup Exec 10d, now owned by Symantec) cannot start. The "Backup Exec Server" service is the one giving me the problem:

"Could not start the Backup Exec Server service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."

My Google search lead me to some pages that agree to try a couple of things, but I run into problems:

1) C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT> regsvr32 schedmgrur.dll
"LoadLibrary("schedmgrur.dll") failed - Access is denied." (My user is a member of the Administrator group.)

2) Go to Add/Remove Programs and repair Backup Exec installation.
"The wizard was interrupted before Symantec Backup Exec (TM) 10d for Windows Servers could not be completely installed. Your system has not bee modified..."

So now I am stuck and not sure what else to try. Looking for troubleshooting ideas. Appreciate any help.

I purchased a new xps13 from dell over two weeks ago.  Currently the laptop is working fine, however, I've tried tried to register the laptop under 'my products' multiple times since receiving the laptop.  Whenever I try to enter the service tag, it keeps giving me an error "Products not found. There’s no match for the Service Tags that were entered."  At first I thought maybe it was because the laptop was new, but it has been 2 weeks now and I'm still getting the same message.
Not only that, but I've been trying to contact dell through email for 2 weeks now and I always get the same "you will get a response in 24hour" reply but nobody ever replies.  I feel like the biggest moron right now because I paid for 3 years of 'premium support' and you won't even answer a freaking email.  I'm pretty close to just returning this laptop and buying a piece of *** macbook because at least apple responds to support requests.

Hi,
I've been using the Hostednetwork from the netsh wlan commands for a long time . Now I've got a Intel Galileo Gen2 with a linux system running on it, but when I tried to access the hostednetwork from it, it returned with an error that the DHCP server doesn't
response. So I had a look at the "ipconfig -all" in cmd, it says that the DHCP service of "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" is disabled. I don't know how to enable it.
BTW, my phone works well with the hostednetwork, and my computer's wireless card is working well and its DHCP service is enabled.
Any help?
THANKS

A:Unable to start DHCP Service for the Hostednetwork from netsh wlan

Hi Rabbit.Chaser,
Are you working with a hostednetwork (netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YourVirtualNetworkName  key=YourNetworkPassword)on a Windows 7 machine and you want to connect to the hostednetwork from a Linux system? Can we connect to the hostednetwork
from the Linux system before?
Have you tried to restart the hostednetwork?
To restart the hostednetwork:
"netsh wlan stop hostednetwork"
"netsh wlan stop hostednetwork".
If the issue persists, we could try to recreate the hostednetwork to have a check.
Considering the other devices worked well with the hostednetwork, I suspect there may be a compatibility issue here. We could try to ask for help from the Linux Forum.
Best regards
