I used the windows explorer burn facility on windows 7
I removed all the waiting to be burnt temp files
clicked on photos and clicked on Burn to burn all to DVD - it burnt the files - but then when the burnt and finalised disk was placed back in the machine - it showed only 1 file burned and all the others marked as waiting to be burnt
I placed the disk into a different machine and it showed all the files and folder on the disk burnt
any idea what's going on here - making it difficult for my friend who is not computer literate and new to this type of thing - struggle with burning disks and i thought using windows explorer in windows 7 would be easiest - but not if it shows burnt disks ad waiting to be burnt
never had this issue on windows 7 pcs before when helping others burn ???
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
I created a ISO from the pc game Civ 4 dvd. I tried burning the ISO to a new dvd, but when I go to use it in my dvd drive, it wont read the dvd and it makes weird sounds like its trying to read it. I used magic ISO to burn it. Does anyone know how burn this properly or what the problem is?

Howdy amazingly smart people of this forum!!! I have an issue or maybe I'm just impatient... Whats goin on is I just reinstalled this operating system on a Compaq SR2030NX and everything seemed to be just fine... I downloaded drivers from the hp/compaq website and got them installed and well....... it works!!!! The problem is, upon reboot I get a dashed bar from the bottem left side of the screen to the right and as the CPU loads the dashed line fills in ... like its loading something and after about 10 min or so (sometimes longer) it will finally boot up the OS... (OS = Windows XP Media Center Edition)
I just rebooted and waited for the white dotted/dashed line to finish and i turned away ... looked back and now i have 2 lines of text and the cpu seems to be frozen the lines say ... well a 3rd line showed up... its like it's trying to boot in safemode but ... its not I really have no idea what the deal is... anyone got a suggestion or an answer? thank you guys!!! If you need more information let me know!
--I did ctrl+alt+del and tried to boot into safemode... and its the same lines... I don't know why it tried to boot into safemode earlier but now I'm thinking a hardware issue but still... if anyone has seen or heard of this issue ... enlighten me please!! TANKIES!
Bah... it was just the HD... i tried a different HD and it loaded reeeaaallllllyyyy fast... so ya! Have a good day!!!
Hiya, I've recently purchased an Envy 15-ah150na which had W10 on it. I didnt want W10 so formatted the drive and I have a spare W7 pro I got from dreamspark premium which I want to install on the machine. I've enabled legacy mode in the BIOS and am using the USB 2.0 port on the right hand side. I have a 32GB USB flash drive which has the image transferred onto it using microsofts tool to make a bootable USB drive. the issue I'm running into is when the "expanding windows files" is at 1% I get the error: The only way I've kind of got around this is by trying to do the first part of thei nstall in another PC then transferring the HDD back into the laptop to complete. This is far from ideal... any ideas why its doing this?

You might use the tutorial below to see if they are there to be deleted. Afterwards, you should be able to delete them.

Is it possible to determine the "computer name" of the computer which was used to burn data into a cd/dvd?
For example, i burnt some FLV files into a blank CD using a computer which has a computer name "my_pc". Will the CD tell me by itself that it was the computer "my_pc" that did the burning?
and how..
show me pls
thank you very much
extra info=I'm using xp and vista)
Simply, no. Each disk is uniquely identified by a serial number, but you can only link back to the PC/writing application if you make a note of this number at the time of burning.

Lately at a start up it takes my computer long time to establish network connection .The skype icon takes a long time to get green and the network icon is probing for a long time , what is most unusuall that i have a data streaming program that is connected immediately to the internet and the data streaming is working perfectly while the rest of the computer is still searching for it , while probing i cannot open Explorer/FireFox.
It is like i have 2 kinds of connections in 1 computer. the computer itself is connected to a router and another computer that is working on the same router does not suffer the same issues, i guess in one of the updates something has changed but i cannot put my finger on the cause.
Thank you
Hi please try a system restore to a point before the issue first occurred.
If issue still persists is this a wired or wireless connection.
Turn off the data streaming program and see if things improve.
What is the data streaming program you are using?

I noticed it when I tried to play music in Winamp and I got this message that no sound card was installed, same thing goes for Spotify. I've checked my device manager but it says that my sound card is working with no issues. If I go to the control panel under the sound part it says no device installed. I've tried to uninstall the drivers and update with new ones but the problem persist.
I have no clue on how to fix this, any help would be appreciated.

we need you to fill in your system specs (lower left corner in your posts) so we know what hardware you have.
you may want to try un-installing the sound driver then letting windows find ot for you.

Especially on my fps games, mainly anything HL2 based (CS, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, etc) when I go into the shadows my hands or other textures on the walls become shiny or glossy when they definatly shouldn't.
Its not a HUGE issue, but it irks me just a tad that something isnt going right.

For those who don't know, this is Yahoo's image and media server. On Firefox 22 and Opera 15, it will absolutely refuse to connect and if that happens, no Yahoo page can be reached. On Firefox, I tried disabling AdBlock Plus and HTTPS Everywhere, clearing cookies and cache and even reverting to the default profile with no extensions. I even disconnected and reconnected from the Net. Still no joy.
If I load it in Internet Explorer or on my Droid 4, it comes up right away. If I ping it from the command prompt, it responds promptly.
What is it about Firefox and this Yahoo server?
I'm not the only one who has had this problem. A Google search for l.yimg reveals posts about this problem dating back to 09 and covering a wide range of connections and computing platforms. It mentioned a possible solution of setting the MTU to under 1500 as a remedy.
Is Yahoo simply too negligent and inept to maintain their server or is there something more complex happening?
Thank you.
Let's try this:
Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

I have a DVD-RAM burnt on Linux, XP can read this disk or the iso file, but windows 7 is not, the error is "Windows can't access this disk"
Have anyone get this problem before ??
Not all DVD drives will read a DVD-RAM disc. So if you are trying the disc on 3 different computers, it's not unusual at all.
Read other 1 answersOn January 31st, I bought a product key for Win 8 Pro paying $40. I downloaded the Windows.iso that came with the purchase. Afterwards, I burnt the Windows.iso to two separate DVD Roms, opening the ISO with Windows Disk Image Burner.
When one of the two DVD Roms is opened, the program setup.exe presents itself, together with about 9 folders and files. (Please see the attachment, showing the contents of the DVD Rom.)
Setup.exe is obviously the trigger for installing Win 8.
My question is: Will this trigger (setup.exe) install the full Win 8 operating system, using what is stored on the DVD Rom, plus perhaps elements downloaded from the internet during the installation process? Or must I have installation elements on my hard drive, downloaded during the purchase, in addition to the DVD Rom?
In other words, is the DVD Rom burnt from the ISO the "full" Windows 8, the only thing I need apart from my product key, to install Win 8?
No, you purchased an upgrade version of Windows 8. It requires that a previous qualifying OS be already on the hard disk. It does not require downloading anything if you've burned it to DVD, but there must be an OS to "Upgrade". You can do a clean install, but the original OS must be there first.
Read other 15 answersYesterday i re-installed XP Home SP2 from the disk and now i have Windows XP with missing drivers
The missing drivers are:
- Ethernet controller
- PCI communications thingy
And on computer startup i have no programs except the defaults, and a very old version of windows media player, on startup i also have a weird screen that is titled as 'OEM reset' with an option to shutdown, do an audit boot and build an RIS deployment image.. why have i got that?
I need to get the Ethernet controller asap and i cannot connect to the internet through my PC.
The PC is an old eMachines e4024, 2.9ghz intel pentium 4 with 512mb ram.
eMachines support is rubbish, they hardly give anything, that's why im posting here..
My ethernet controller is a Intel pro 10/100, thats as far as i have got to finding out what the controller is, everest did not tell me anything about an ethernet controller.. but i know it is manufactered by Intel, on intel's website they have a list of driver downloads for many ethernet controllers but im posting here cause i cant find my model.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi .<<Yesterday i re-installed XP Home SP2 from the disk and now i have Windows XP with missing drivers>>What disk might that be? Is it a MS XP install CD?Is it a CD provided by eMachines for restoring your system?Did you have a drivers CD for your system? If so, did you run it?Did you delete everything on the C: partition and attempt a clean install...or did you attempt to do a repair install of your existing XP?FWIW: Drivers for E4024 desktop, http://downloads.emachines.com/emdriver.html?model=E4024Louis

I got my Dell PC on 8.1, about a week before the W10 roll out, but its always come up with the same error Code 80240020 and the last auto update by MS was attempted on 7/9.
I know this error is common and Ive tried a few different solutions, but they have never worked.
When I right click on the "Get Windows 10" and check my upgrade status it still comes up "We're validating Windows 10 for your PC"
I have opened the top left options and confirmed Im "good to go".
Yet it still hasnt happened :(
Im really just curious how many others are in this situation and if the above messages mean that Windows/Dell are working on a solution to get the automatic installation working, or am I waiting on nothing and should try tinkering with things again myself?
Its not a complaint, its more Im not sure whats going on, or what to do.
I know theres an option to download the software on to a USB and install from there, Im not too tech savvy and Im thinking if theres a problem with the auto update, maybe I will just end up with a problem with the USB method too.
I just dont know if I should sit and wait, or go for the USB method and cross my fingers?

Windows 10 Upgrade Error
My "work" system, which I'll call "this laptop", is Windows 7 Pro. I have another laptop with the same system and it installed updates a little while ago, so I thought I'd better check this laptop so I could install the updates in a controlled fashion.
However, when I went into Windows Update in Control Panel I saw, to my horror, that Windows 10 was waiting to install and there's no option to remove it.
I have since cancelled my reservation and uninstalled KB3035583, done a system restore, everything I can think of, but every time I go into Control Panel it's still there.
The "Get Windows 10" icon has gone from Taskbar.
I do have Windows 10 on another laptop (yes, I've got a lot of them), but cannot have it on this laptop because vital software is incompatible.
Please can someone help me out of the terrifying hole I've got myself into.

Am going to try it myself actually .
I had three computers to update. The small Windows 7.1 laptop received Windows 10 successfully on day 1 but both the Lenovo desktop and Acer laptop, both running Windows 8 and both under a year old, are waiting. Like a lot of people, both attempt to update and fail every day. Checking online seems inconclusive and I can't work out if it's going to come eventually if I'm patient or there is an actual fault and I should try to install manually. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool to install but held back, thinking my chance to upgrade would come.
Has anyone any suggestions whether to be patient or just start installing it manually. I'm just a little nervous about doing it myself. Both computers have built in Windows and the product key is held inside the computer so I don't want to muck things up.

you could use the media creation tool - but do the upgrade - as you cant do a clean install until its been upgraded

Hi
I have a problem with windows store, unable to install any apps
everytime i click Install button, windows store always reply with error
Try that again
Something happened at our end. Waiting a bit might help.
I have wait, restarting or wait for another day, login and logout from store and no luck
any chance to resolve this issue without reinstall windows 10?
thx
You could try hitting the Windows key() and typing wsreset and wait until the store opens. You will see a blank command prompt(which runs the command) for a minute or two, so don't close it, until the store opens.
Read other 5 answersI've got two hard drives on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit system.
They are drives C: (a solid-state drive) and drive D: (a 500GB WD standard drive).
After 30 minutes, drive D: powers down to save energy. I've only got a few video files on it - I use it as a media drive. I'll be using the system just fine. When I open up Windows Explorer, and RIGHT-CLICK on any file on drive C: (the solid-state drive), there is a pause while I have to wait for drive D: to power up, and get up to speed (about 8 seconds). Then, the system responds again.
My question: Why is this? I'm not looking at any files on D:, why does Windows need to power it back up at all when I am dealing with drive C:?
Are there any ways to avoid this? If it IS accessing drive D:, is there a way to see what file(s) it is accessing?
Thanks!
Make a shortcut to the C drive on your desktop.

The Windows 10 fall update was rolled out yesterday, but I have yet to see it. Every time I "check for updates", it says my machine is up to date. Is this a gradual roll-out? Just wanted to see if others out there are also still waiting.
Yes, many are waiting for the Windows Update to appear..
But there is no need to wait for it.. You can download the ISO and run the upgrade yourself...
by running setup.exe from within your current OS

I have been using Windows 7 at work now for a few weeks now and am mightly impressed. So impressed in fact I am considering upgrading my home PC to 7100 RC.
However, as I am in the middle of a project on my home PC, I am reluctant to make the move.
So I am holding off until the official release date so I can buy my own copy.
The jump from ...
... Win3x to Win9x was big
... Win9x to Win2K was also significant
... WinXP to Vista was OK
... Vista to Win7 will be brilliant.
I honestly can't wait, but will just so I only have to re-install all my programs once.
I am currently running the "RTM" 7600.16385. However, I am a Technet subscriber, so as soon as it hits on the 6th, I am going to clean install, just so that I know that I have the final result from MS, and so that I have keys to activate.
Read other 9 answersI am getting the message when I am trying to restart Windows 7 RTM "1 program still needs to close: (Waiting for) Task Host WindowTask Host is executing shutdown tasks, and stopping tasks that are already running. This message never goes away, you just have to force shutdown. This message was already posted but there was no answer, is anybody monitoring this forum?
The problem is considered in the Knowledge Base articlehttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975777
Read other 43 answersI have a HP computer with Windows 7 on it. About 6 months ago I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled the OS on the new hard drive. When I shut it down back then it shut down really quick. Now it takes forever to shut down. It tells me that x amount of background programs need to close. Even when you force the system to shutdown it still says this. Is there a way actually force the system to shut down? It would seem that windows is like a sponge. The longer it runs the slower it gets. There's a reason to tell the computer to close when you want it to. I had a fire in my apartment and told the computer to shut down and it just took way too long. I wanted to turn the main power off to the apartment.

Hello,
My newish machine works otherwise pretty well except that there is this strange glitch happening. If I wait too long (maybe 1-2min) to login on the startup screen, the windows freezes! This never happens if I login right away and almost 100% if I wait. Any ideas what is causing this weird behavior?

Hello J, upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
If it gives any idea.
Finally got fed up with IE crashing constantly, had the time. Was going to do a complete re-install, but thought I'd give a reset a shot first. Windows Update running for an hour now. How long should I give it, before I pull the plug and start doing the reinstall?

I attempted at upgrading to Windows 10. Couldn't do it, I received this error... 0x80080005-0x90016. Did a google search, didn't find much on this error message. Any suggestions?
Good Morning,
Whenever I shut down my computer, I am getting the error that it is "Waiting to close background programs". The computer is taking longer to shutdown even after this message goes away and some of my programs seem sluggish and very slow.
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System
Thank you for any advice,
Tracey
Do you not get the option to force a shutdown?
You can use Task Manager to see just what is running when the stated screen appears.
I get this message occasionally...but I don't waste any time with it, I just elect to terminate whatever is holding the shutdown up. I suspect that I probably need to run chkdsk /r and I usually do that the next day.
You can take a look in Event Viewer/Application...for any errors noting "hanging application" (or wording to that effect) if you really want to know. But, IME, some programs routinely hang for whatever reason...and it's not anything for me to worry about.

Windows 7 SP1 with 4 GB RAM.
This laptop is freezing about three times per week. The user regularly maxes out on RAM.
Apparently the laptop froze when only Microsoft Word was open; no other apps were open.
Additionally, every day, the system generates about 500 of the following errors:
A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Windows Management Instrumentation service to connect.
Event ID: 7009
I adjusted the timeout setting to 60000 ms (from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756342(v=ws.10).aspx).
However, the threshold of 60000 milliseconds keeps being reached (about 350 times per day)
How do I stop this PC from freezing?
Hello,
Every so often one of our Windows 7 clients which is not normally having any delay at logon will take a very long time to login. This may be 10 or 20 minutes or up to an hour in some cases.
Typically the event log will contain entries like
The winlogon notification subscriber <Profiles> took 572 second(s) to handle the notification event (Logon).
There is no further information available from Event Log Online Help, nor any additional detail as to why the logon event was so slow. During the delay the user will just see "Waiting for the User Profile Service" on their screen.
We first started seeing this problem with Windows Vista and if anything the situation has not improved since then. It has never happened with any of our Windows XP users.
We are currently planning a migration of computers to Windows 7 but stuff like this which has not been resolved in Windows over a 2 year period will stall that migration. The least improvement is to increase the event notification to give a lot more
information on why the user profile processing has stalled.
Hi,
When did the issue begin to occur? Did it occur after installing certain application or applying certain policy?
To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following step.
1. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking to check whether the system can login quicker.
2. Type “gpedit.msc” in Search box and press Enter. Navigate to the following location:
Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Logon
Please double click “Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon” policy and disable it.
3. Perform a
Clean Boot to check the result.
Thanks,
Novak
Hello, I burned a successful ISO with windows and it verified but I often read that Image burn is the way to go with ISO burns, should I burn one with that software as well and is there any difference?
Thank you
ImgBurn is a high quality program, but the larger point is whether or not the ISO burned with Windows will do what you want it to do. If yes, I'd probably just go with it, although there's no reason not to have a duplicate copy if it's really important stuff.
I wouldn't rely on "verification". If you want to know if it works, try using it for its intended purpose, whatever that is.
I have 120 gb external drive. I don't mind using the external drive to burn the system image on as i barely ever use it and yes it still works. However, I worry about system image being re written by virus should i ever get a virus, spyware, malware, ect. on my external drive and then the viruses re enters my system everytime i use the system image. The whole point of even me using the system image would be in the event i get a virus and i just can't rid of it or I just really wanna be sure its gone. So i use the system image to delete everything and restore only what was on the system image. So my question is do you think if be the safer bet to just store the system image on none-rewritable cds? Perhaps this is not very convenient as i would need more than probably 3 cds, but would it be safer and would it let me install it on more than 1 cd? I think the system image is about 80 gbs. So i may need up to 9 cds to store 10 gbs each going from part 1 to part 11. Is it going to let me do that? Oh and i just might make a back up on my external drive as just as emergency back up in the given case one or all my cds don't fully work or should one out of 11 ever fail.
Hello Trent,
It would be best to create the system image on a HDD instead. A CD/DVD is less reliable to restore from, and more expensive for how many you would need.
You can do what's in the NOTE box at the top of the tutorial below to keep multiple copies of system images on the same HDD. This way you can create a system image backup that you know is clean, rename the backup folder to keep it so new system images will not replace it. Just repeat this every so often to have a updated system image that you know is clean.

Hope this helps,

I'm not sure if this is the right section but here's the problem:
Yesterday I tried to burn a folder containing pictures (about 650 MB worth) and a few WordPad files onto a brand new blank CD-RW disc (with 700 MB of space). using the Mastered format. When I tried burning the files to disc, I got a message saying "There was an error burning this disc. It might no longer be usable". I tried using another blank disc and got the same error. I also tried using an older CD-R disc that still had plenty of room on it and I still got the same error.
I also tried burning just the pictures and not the files and got the same error.
I then tried to burn just the files and not the pictures. This time it worked. I was able to burn the WordPad files to the disc but not the pictures.
Any ideas why this is happening? I was able to burn pictures onto a blank disc just 2 weeks ago without any problems, but now it won't work.
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows Vista Basic
