Lenovo g770 boot problem

Q: Lenovo g770 boot problem

My wife's G770 refuses to boot -freezes on the opening page. It seems to be trying to boot from something other than the HD. Pressing F12 while switching on sometimes results in a list of boot devices 10 minutes later and then I can boot from the HD. I have re-flashed the bios to no effect. Any suggestions would be welcome. I am computer literate. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Lenovo g770 boot problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

From What you can see, my Notebook, has OverHeating problems. Let me Explain Everything, by first giving some info about this Notebook.I`ve bought this NoteBook 5/6 Years ago, (Lenovo G770) and works Fine (sort of). It`s in good conditions from what I know, no Major Damages(From my Point of View), but it overheats too fast, only in some environments, like when I start up an Heavy SoftWare.(But before it does reach Critical Temperatures it shutdowns "Obviously") The Temperatures on Idle are still high but it works Great even on those temperatures, but it would be a lot (lot) better if the temperatures were much lower. Noticeable Problems (Probably related to OverHeating) : The Fan is very Noisy. The Out Take Grill/Vent near the fan is slightly broken.Never Replaced the Thermal Paste. Pictures + Technical Info  The Graphics Card, Temp. Didn't appear but on idle is near 60 usually , but when I start up an Heavy SoftWare it goes in less than 20 seconds to 80  and in 30 more seconds to 99 and it shutdowns. http://i.imgur.com/WelLO4I.png [I do Clean my NoteBook often, and remove all the dust.]

Hello, I have a Lenovo G770 20089 laptop. Could you please tell me if my laptop supports UEFI? And if yes, please help me find the UEFI options (for example, enable/disable) in the BIOS because they do not seem to show up anywhere (in the latest BIOS offered on the Lenovo site for this laptop, which is version 3.10). Thank you very much.

I know this is a somewhat bad idea. But my warranty has expired, and I think I could use a better CPU. I have a Lenovo G770 (20089). I think, my chipset is: Intel HM65 (05) and I'm looking at some quad-core replacement. My current i5 2430M has 2 cores, and 4 threads running at 2.40Ghz along side Intel HD3000 and AMD Radeon 6650M.  In the datasheet for this model, I've seen it can go up to i7 - 2620, but that's a dual core cpu as well.  So my question is, can it be done, are there any quad core cpus I can install, and does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this topic?

A:Lenovo G770 CPU Upgrade

I would like to upgrade my G770 with i3-2330m. Is it possible with i7 2630qm?Like the mainboard (Intel HM65 chipset specifications) it should be possible? Any experience? Is it also possible to add a graphic card? Some models of G770 have a AMD radeon 6550 card inside?

Hello, I want to upgrade the CPU in my Lenovo G770. According to this post, in the laptop's maintenance manual there should be a list of whitelisted CPUs. The ony list I could find is "Table 4" at the end of the document, which only lists a dual core i7 as a possible upgrade (since I already have the listed i5). However, I remember that a while ago I actually found a lot larger list of possible upgrades which included quad core i7s as well.  I'd appreciate if someone could point me to such a list indicating what upgrades I could get.  Thank you.

A:Lenovo G770 CPU upgrade

Actually, I think it was this (unofficial) site that contained that larger CPU list: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28chipsets%29/HM65_Express.html . Sadly, it only lists the CPUs based on the motherboard's chipset and mentions that the chipset is NOT the only thing determining compatibility, so some CPUs on that list may not actually work with my laptop.Still, I'd like to ask something else: if anyone here upgraded the CPU on this laptop, what CPU did you upgrade with ?

Hi, I've damaged the screen of my Lenovo G770 (operating Windows 7) to the point where you can view nothing on the screen. I want to connect my laptop to an external device (TV), and have read that you can use the FN button plus the relevent F# key, which in my case is F3. I have plugged the laptop via HDMI to the TV, however the shortcut for changing to an external monitor is not working. I have also tried pressing the windows button and P. I suspect this isn't working as my laptop is at the log in screen and I am obviously not logged in. When turning on my laptop does not auto-snap to the text box for typing in your password, so I have to manually click on this, which is a problem when I can't see anything on screen. So two questions;1) is there any other way I can connect the laptop to an external device,2) is there any way of logging in without having to enter my password. Thanks in advance,Sam

After 5+ years, laptop will not boot.  Press On and get Lenovo image, but then goes to flashing cursor on upper left, with no further boot up.  Have disconnected power, removed battery and held ON button to dissipate the gremlims, reattached power (but not battery) but still same result when restarting. Have tried this many and several times.   I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Repair disk for Lenovo that I burned once upon a time.  Put that in, it spins for a while at startup but nothing happens except the same flashing cursor.  Have tried pushing all the F-buttons at startup and same result.  Have also tried turning on by pushing the little (NOVO?) button next to the ON button but nothing happens.  Any ideas?

we've dealt with these problems before, unfortunately this time we cannot find the onekey recovery for this particular model.  ive scoured the net and come up null.  basically the system image and recovery image is corrupted on the msata ssd.  regular recovery media will not detect the ssd nor will the bios.  the OS partition is intact and not corrupt.  ive tried rebuilding the bcd to no avail.  normally we can generally get a system image from the manufacturer and backup files and reinstall via image, but Lenovo refuses to issue a recovery as the warranty expired on Jan 1st 2016.  So basically the customer is out a pricey computer because lenovo will not provide a recovery, even with serial and proof of purchase.  Traditional reinstall will not work either as it needs to be flashed via an image.  i find it to be ridiculous as the customer has no recourse to correct the issue.  i have verified the ssd is functioning correctly via an external adapter that I use to work with msata/m.2/mpcie etc.  Im at a loss here on what to do as Lenovo is zero help.  Does anyone here have the recovery for the yoga 2 pro please and thank you.

I've had my G770 for a few years and just noticed how badly frayed the cord connected to the charger brick is. However, I noticed that Lenovo no longer sells the CPA-A065 chargers on their site. Is there a current charger that I can use instead or do I have to take my chances and buy from someone online? (Couldn't find any on Amazon that didnt have bad or mixed reviews). Has anyone out there had any luck with finding a good one?

I just inherited a G770.  The manual describes how to change the switchable graphics using Catalyst Control Center, but says this is "on select models".  This program does not appear to be installed, but the previous user of this notebook cleaned off a lot of pre-installed software.  The notebook itself has a sticker that says "Switchable Graphics*" and the asterisk of course says this is an optional feature.

How can I tell if my notebook has switchable graphics with the ATI Radeon GPU?

The ID sticker on the bottom has the following info
Lenovo G770
Model Name: 1037

I am trying to install a windows 7 / XP dual boot on a Lenovo 550P I recently purchased. I have had no problems setting up a new partition and formatting it, but whenever I try and install XP on it, I get partway through the installation process and always get a blue screen of death. It tells me that there is a hard drive error.

To test this, I installed a copy of Vista 64 on the partition with no problems. I wiped the drive and started again with XP and had the same problem.

I am now wondering if there is an incompatability between XP and the hardware in my system. The system specs are:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 720QM(1.6GHz)
Chipset: Intel PM55
HDD: 500 GB
Memory: 4 GB

I am wanting the XP OS so I can use my old 32 bit compilers. I have considered reformating the entire drive and making it an XP machine, but do not know if there is an intrensic incompatibility between XP and the hardware.
thanks.

welcome to sevenforums!
Where did you get your windows xp cd? If you downloaded that cd from utorrent, there is a small chance that the cd isn't bootable or corrupted.
Also, I have had similar experience on my HP g70. It wouldn't install windows xp no matter what I try. I cannot run the installer from windows of course (application hard block) and whenever it boots up, it would have a disk warning.
I think that some manufacturers include something in their bios to make sure the system is stuck with vista or beyond, or that perhaps, the new hardware available in the nine years since xp made its entrance, made the xp incompatible. I mean, can your xp recognize your cpu or chipset?
Perhaps the only possible method would be to run xpfrom a virtual machine.
Judging from your system configuration, virtualization wouldn't be that bad, it would run pretty well
Thus, my suggestion would be to install windows 7 and simply run it from XP Mode. For that, you will need a copy of windows 7 professional or ultimate (tad bit more expensive than home premium). Or you can buy a home premium and install something like virtualbox.
Seriously xp, is more trouble than its worth. Even if you manage to install it, you will need a TON of times getting all the drivers for it. Xp doesn't have generic or native drivers so you will need a flash drive to store the drivers lol. Windows 7, however, has generic drivers for almost all modern hardware, so you will ahve a better "out of box" exp... Read more

After that when I restarted my machine, I started getting "bootmgr is missing" press ctr+alt+delete to restart. I've created the recovery CD but I am not able to get into BIOS setting to switch order of boot to CD. I tried pressing F8, F12, F2 (seperatly during each restart) when Lenovo logo appars, but no avail I am able to access Bios. If I press any other key at "BootMgr is missing" message, it beeps. Even rescue key is not working!! What's wrong?.  I understand I might have messed up windows 7  MBR  but still BIOS utility should work. Didnt call support center yet. remove the battery, un-plug the ac power, press power button for 30-40 seconds, replace the battery and check if it works.also, you can try to remove/replace or swap the ram sticks. after then, you should be able to access bios to change the order to use recovery discs.

Hello all! Yesterday, 06.12.2015, there was a Windows 10 update to the build 1511 for x64 (KB3122947). Since then, the webcam is marked with an exclamation mark in the hardware panel. Right clicking on it and asking Windows to make an automatic update of the driver doesn't solve the issue, as an error is encountered during the installation. I looked at the Lenovo download page, typed G770 and... there is no drivers for Windows 10. Even worse, it's not even listed in the list of Win 10 compatible devices, but I had the free upgrade to Windows 10! Can anyone help to bring my webcam back to life again? Note: Lenovo Companion doesn't want to start too, asking for a driver, rebooting and asking for the driver again, endlessly.... Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a G770 Core i5 machine build 7/2011.  Current BIOS is 3.06 and I recently changed from Win7 to Win10 OS.  After getting a Solution Center update to work in Win10, I found that my system is not supported for Win10 (but works fair -freezes intermittently but seems to recover) and also that there was a Win 7 BIOS update (version 11) with release date of 5/20/12. Given my update to Win10 are there any known problems with updating the BIOS?  Is it wise to flash the new BIOS or leave good enough alone? ThanksDana

A:G770 BIOS Update in Win10?

Flashing the BIOS should be done ONLY if it solves or provides a solution for a known bug / problem that is impacting your machine.  Performance improvements are also another, less trusted reason, but anytime you update a BIOS chip it can have unintended outcomes, upto and including turning your machine into a fancy doorstop.

Always ...
1.  Make sure you are using your AC power adapter
2.  Download the update file via hard line connection to the Internet
3.  Back up your critical files, make recovery disks
4.  Have a means to restore or re-flash the BIOS if necessary.

Good luck.

A week ago, I bought Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM (CT8G4SFS824A & single ranked) as Crucial System Scanner suggested it is compatible with my brand new Lenovo V110-15IKB. Its OS is Windows 10. I have inserted this ram part into my laptop and it works well. 12GB appears under Device specifications at About (its 4GB is non-removable). However, when I shut it down and next day, it won't boot. Just black screen, CapsLk light is on (normally it turns off before Lenovo logo appears) and not responding. I have removed ram part and laptop booted with original 4GB ram. I reinserted 8GB part back and it booted.  But it's still same, it won't boot second time unless 8GB part is removed and reinserted. I've looked for solutions across the internet but none worked (most of them are for home-built PCs) including safe mode resetting (supposed there to be troubleshooting but this laptop didn't have done troubleshooting after resetting and yet it won't boot second time). Also, I got BIOS/UEFI driver upgrade from Lenovo but it's still same. Though I have no idea how to use UEFI. Sorry, I'm not much technological person. I'm baffled with this. I haven't seen similar problem as this. Why does laptop refuse to boot second time with 8GB installed? Is this 8GB ram defective? Should I use other 8GB part (dual ranked one)? hi hakaa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If I'm not Mistaken you want to boot the system to your Installation Media, right?

First you can try the hitting F12 when you press the power to turn it ON.
If your Lucky the BIOS is already configured and hitting F12 should give you the Boot menu and will let you choose to boot from CD/DVD, HDD or USB.

If hitting F12 did not give you Boot Menu Option,
Turn the system ON and start hitting F2, Now This will Let you Boot into the BIOS and will give you option to change the Boot sequence,

Hope this info helps,
Please let s know if you have further questions,

Help!   I upgraded a Lenovo G770 laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10.   I had network and sound issues that could not be resolved so I decided to revert using the recovery option found in settings.    It appears things are back, but now I need to do a clean install of Windows 7.    The Lenovo OneKey Recovery button on the laptop should boot the OneKey application to get a clean install of factory setting, but it now appears to be broken; I come up in Windows.  Now on the drive, I see  applications, drivers and Windows10 upgrade (now empty) folders.    The drivers folder still has OneKey drivers, but the applications folder does not have OneKey, but I'm not sure if it should.  Using the OneKey application from Windows 7, it let me make DVDs of the factory install, but I'm worried that the Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade changed these files too.   Did the Windows 10 upgrade or revert wipe out the Windows 7 factory install files?  How can I verify? How can I get the OneKey button to work again?I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!

I advised that the OS sounded damaged and would need a repair running, despite creating Recovery DVD's years ago (which were not to hand) I asked him to use OKR to restore from a backup carried out 3 weeks prior on an externtal USB HDD which has worked on 1 occasion approx. 3 years ago but this time it just went into a loop again. Pressing the NOVO button from being powered off only boots into windows and so a 3rd party intervened as I live 110+ miles away and used a MS Win7 Home install CD and sadly the Automatic Repair was ran twice and the laptop remained the same. So they decided to install from the said CD and now they have lost all the data on original drive plus no drivers are configured and still unable to use OKR for an external backup. I did manage to use OKR to create some Recovery DVD's which I used to return the laptop to factory defaults but yet again the OKR will not load to allow the external USB HDD to restore a previously saved backup. I would have thought that the factory reset would have made the partitions correct.I see from numer... Read more

Hello all,I had installed dual boot windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04 on lenovo 50 series. This laptop stoped working after water damage but I managed get the hard disk working. Now, I have got another laptop with 500GB hard disk, Lenovo  50-80 Ehnanced experience 2.0, thinkpad, windows 7. So I removed its hard disk and installed the dual boot one, but only windows 10 start, no options for selecting  the ubuntu Os and Windows (grab loader or windows loader). Do I have to make changes in settings?. so that ubuntu OS can be detected, and use it. It is most important one, since all my works are in this Os. Thank you in advance for your help.regardsHuu

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.

If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.

The disk that was sent to me is a USB written in Universal Disk Format - never seen this format before. It was uninitialized so i considered trying to activate it in a few ways, through diskpart in windows, and also by cloning via linux and adding boot flags to the partition it was written to. No luck, though. I'm reluctant to do much more, considering I paid money for this drive; what gives? How does one use this mysterious little drive?

Hello. I have 3 year old Lenovo Y50-70 laptop. Couple days ago i decided to finally upgrade to SSD. The old HDD was 1TB WD 10SPCX and i replaced it with 480GB Kingston UV500 SSD. When I swapped the drives and tried to boot, I was stuck on completely black screen with only Lenovo logo. This ocured when I tried to enter Novo menu using Lenovo Novo button as well. I tried to put back the old HDD and it was working normally. When i pulled out both disks and tried to boot only from bootable USB this problem did not occur. Then i tried to plug the SSD to some HP desktop computer and I was able to install windows there and boot on the desktop normally. So I put the SSD back into my laptop and again i was stuck on the logo. However, because Windows was now installed, I was able to boot after being stuck on the Lenovo logo for some time. Then I tried to change the SATA controller mode. I tried both Compatible (IDE) and AHCI modes and installed fresh windows using both settings but still I was stuck on the cursed Lenovo logo. The lag lasted ~1 minute when usind the IDE and 6-7 minutes using AHCI setting.  My bios version is the same as the version available for donwload on my laptop drivers page (V3.03). Using bios options to restore to defaults or OS optimized defaults did not make any difference. All the drivers are installed and up to date, though I think this is irrelevant as the problem first occured before any OS was present.  Could it be t... Read more

Hey,I really need some help with the following issue: Details:HW: Y520 with 16GB RAM, GTX 1060, SSD (GPT) + HDD (MBR)SW: Win10 pro - including latest updates. On GPT based SSD and in UEFI mode.BIOS: latest one is loaded Problem:In short; The FIRST boot each day is unsuccessful, but the SECOND right after the failed attempt is always successful. More details:This also happens, if I switch the notebook on after not using it for a few hours, like 3h<So during the first attempt the notebook is just freezing and and I have to press and hold power button. The last thing I can see is the lenovo logo and the stopped spinning circle animation. Notebook doesnt react to ctrl+alt+del. The strange thing is that right after these 1st attempts the 2nd boot attempts are always successful, windows10 loads in and no problem after that. What I already checked:-Windows event viewer: There are no records from the failed boot, I guess because windows is not even loaded.-Drivers: All drivers are installed-BIOS: I didnt see any related setting. The OS was installed in UEFI mode and bios is set this way (UEFI)-I run all the quick and deep hw diagnostics test on lenovo support page - No issues.-Win10 reinstall: Even after a clean install the freezes are still happening. Installed win10 twice but no change, still freezing. What causes the freezes!?If needed I can make a video as well. Thanks in advance!
