I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Almost two years ago, the Norwegian browser firm Opera ripped out the guts of its product and adopted the more standard WebKit and Chromium technologies, essentially making it more like rivals Chrome and Safari. But it wasn?t just Opera?s innards that changed; the browser also became more streamlined and perhaps less? geeky.

Many Opera fans were deeply displeased at the loss of what they saw as key differentiating functionality. So now Jon von Tetzchner, the man who founded Opera and who would probably never have allowed those drastic feature changes, is back to serve this hard core with a new browser called Vivaldi.

Old meets new
Vivaldi doesn?t mark a return to Opera?s old internals ? it uses Chromium as a base and has a user interface that is itself unusually built using web technologies ? but it does bring back features such as tab stacking, an advanced bookmark manager, keyboard shortcuts, and the ability to start with multiple session windows.

Opera used to be ?more feature-rich, for a crowd of users that want more from their browser,? von Tetzchner told me:

After I quit [as CEO in 2010, then fully in 2011], Opera changed their philosophy. They made kind of a browser that?s more in line with most of the other browsers and doesn?t have a lot of features. The focus is in a way on making the browser disappear, and I think there?s a lot of people that want something different.

Hi folks anyone else trying the new Vivaldi browser?

No extensions yet but I will enquire, it has the familiar Opera style speed dial and I like the way cookies can be deleted, it also lists them separately for you and from here 11 cookies are listed from this site for example, I can delete all or pick which site individually.

Web Of Trust, HTTPS-everywhere would be nice along with a few others, what extensions do you use and why, regardless of which browser you currently favour?

Obviously not wanting to go off topic but there may be some I haven't used and would maybe when I send feedback suggest them also.

I'd sum up after a quick mess with it that it's a bit Spartan at the moment and Firefox is still my preferred browser for speed, stability, looks, extensions available and general ease of use.

Thanks, Ian.

Story goes that some of the folks at Opera weren't too happy with the direction, so they split off and started Vivaldi hoping to pick up where the old Opera left off.

First stable release was issued a couple of weeks ago.

Has anybody tried it yet?

I think Standalone means, Offline installer?

Standalone software may refer to:
Computer software that can work offline, i.e. does not necessarily require network connection to function
Software that is not a part of some bundled software
A program that is run as a separate computer process, not an add-on of an existing process
Standalone program, a program that does not require operating system's services to run
A portable application, which can be run without the need for installation procedure
Stand-alone expansion pack, expansion packs that do not require the original game

Vivaldi browser heavy users & users share your experience here plzz.

And plzz reply the following in your post ---
1. Are you running Vivaldi as your main browser?
2. Vivaldi 32 or 64 Bits Browser?
3. Vivaldi Installed or Portable/Standalone?
4. Your experience with Vivaldi, add-ons compatibility, features you miss, etc...

A:Vivaldi Browser Heavy Users & Users

1. Secondary Browser
2. 32 Bits
3. Portable/Standalone
4. Overall experience good. I only use Google Translate & IDM extension. IDM video download bar doesn't appear on videos. I miss inbuilt translator, flash, etc... Sometimes I notice page load takes little time.

And I would like "Open link in new tab" work as Chrome or an option to set that way. "Open link in background tab" is the 3rd option & as a Chrome user I have the habit of clicking 1st option so gets annoying.

I wanted to try out the new Vivaldi browser, so I downloaded and installed the latest v. 1.0.435.46. It's supposedly running, and Task Manager tells me it's using about 67 MB of RAM, but it doesn't appear in any windows. Tried a reinstall too. Would this be an XP problem? I can't run Chrome and sometimes Opera won't run in XP.Edit: Moved topic from Windows XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

A:XP + Vivaldi

Since XP is no longer a supported. You will find this is a recurring theme of finding secondary browsers of the latest release working in XP. Since you already find that Chrome does not work with XP. Vivaldi is a Chromium based browser, it will not work in XP either unfortunately. You can see this discussed here: https://vivaldi.net/fr/forum/vivaldi-browser/8560-vivaldi-on-windows-xp-and-vista

Vivaldi 1.0 Benchmark Tests from the web

Vivaldi 1.0 is now dominating the news these days.People are praising and writing reviews on this new browser, so I've decided to post 3 Benchmark tests found along the way.
1. Ghacks :
Code:

http://www.ghacks.net/2016/04/06/vivaldi-web-browser-review/

Hardware: not specified
2. Computerbild.de :
Code:
http://www.computerbild.de/artikel/cb-Tests-Software-Vivaldi-Browser-Download-Screenshots-14012791.html

The benchmark SunSpider , V8 and Octane check the speed in the preparation of JavaScript.
The Acid3 test analyzes the conformity to current web standards.
Peacekeeper (Pk) focuses on HTML5 elements.
In SunSpider, a low value (in seconds) is better. In V8, Octane, Peacekeeper and Acid3, a high value (in points / runs) is better.

Hardware : The test PC COMPUTER BILD: a notebook with an Intel Pentium T2390 (dual core at 1.86 GHz), 3 gigabytes of RAM and Windows 10 (32 bit).
3. Chip.de :
Code:
http://www.chip.de/artikel/Vivaldi-Browser-Test_76313444.html

Does not do well in comparison to the others in the JetStream test.

Hardware: not specified.

Vivaldi seems to be doing better in most of the benchmark tests provided along with the reviews. Of course, individual hardware matters.Users are also welcome to try on their own and post the results. You can also post any other benchmark tests you come across(with the source).

Hi

This morning I installed the latest version of Vivaldi, went to Channel 4's catch up page, All4 to watch a TV programme and got a message saying I needed to switch off my ad blocker (this would have been done permanently on All4 but I had to reinstall Vivaldi from scratch at the weekend and delete all of my settings as my PC to had a bit of a meltdown!) so I switched off Ad Block Plus on that page, then switched off Vivaldi's built-in ad blocker, refreshed and tried again - it still said I needed to switch off my ad blocker.

I therefore disabled ABP on the extensions page and added U Block Origin instead. Switched UBO off on All4, pressed 'play' and got the same message. I then disabled UBO on the extensions page so I had no ad blockers running at all, refreshed All4 & clicked play....it still said I had an ad blocker running!

Any ideas as to what to do next, please? It's obviously not ABP or UBO that's the problem if it's still saying it when neither is working and there doesn't appear to be any other setting I can change in Vivaldi so I'm at a loss! I'll probably end up just watching All4 on my horrendously slow tablet in future if I can't get it to work!

Thank you,

Ian.

Running latest Windows 10 and Vivaldi (a Chrome-based browser) versions. Beginning a least a month or two ago I lost the ability to type into Evernote Web Clipper fields. I've since learned that this also happens with third party sites in frames. I can, however, paste into the fields! Surprisingly, I find that sometimes (but usually not) after I paste into an Evernote Web Clipper field, I can then type into that or other fields in the form!?!

I have tried rebooting, deleting Cache and reinstalling Vivaldi. No joy.

We have another PC in the house with a similar configuration that does not show this bizarre problem.

Look at the processes tab of the task manager ... if it is there , notice the CPU usage thereto . If it is high enough, end the task . Change the color scheme to basic , and try it again .

If it is not even in the task manager, you got a corrupted download ; so you are to download it again .

In case of trying and installing Comodo Dragon Browser, an installation configuration decision would be required about selecting between "Comodo Dragon DNS servers" or the "entire user's Internet Service Provider". What do they mean? How does a user decide?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comodo_Dragon_(web_browser)

This kind of choice never happened when installing Google Chrome browser; just download the installer of Chrome, run and download another installer of Chrome, and after several minutes, Chrome was installed. No other complicated decisions (other than about "Default" browser and importing configuration/bookmarks from other installed browser).

A:Comodo Dragon Browser decision upon installation

It is just asking if you want to use Comodo's Secure DNS servers or stay with the ones you have at present. If you are just using the default servers from your windows installation then my advice would be to use the Comodo Secure DNS or another such server.

Hi all,

I have installed McAfee on my computer (I know, its the worst antivirus ever, but I have a year's subscription left and I need to use it for that year being). After installation, my browser (win 8 IE9) would not work. It would say something like "Waiting for Yahoo.ca" and perpetually be like that. A quick restart would often fix the problem but more than not the next time I open the browser would not work again. I have yet to try this issue on other browsers.

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

A:Browser does not work after McAfee installation, restart a quick fix.

You won't want to hear this, but don't use it just because you have a year left. Uninstall it and install a free AV like Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast! I can't really help with your issue, sorry. A Guy

I think the two problems are connected. A couple of days ago, my Google Chrome kept having its search engine set to Yahoo or Bing on default, and no matter what I do to change the settings, it would revert back every time the browser was closed. Same deal with Firefox.

I uninstalled chrome to try and solve the problem, but now I can't reinstall it. Every time I try to open the installer, I get an error message saying "an unknown exception softare error has occured 0xc0000417 at location something something and must be terminated." I made a HijackThis log and posted in the malware logs forum, but have had no responses so far, which is pathetic. I'm hoping to get this resolved ASAP.

Hello, B.C.

My english is not 100% perfect, so I apologize.

After looking at how many problems were solved here I wanted to show mine, since yesterday, while not browsing or playing a fullscreen game, my default browser randomly opens, if I am playing a game, it minimizes it which makes it unplayable. And when I am browsing, no matter what browser is, my current tab switch to the browser home page, for example, In opera my home page is the speed dial, while browsing on a website e.j. wikipedia or any other, it changes to the browser home page for no reason, and that happens in all browsers, no matter what the default one is.

I do believe this is caused by a malware. I scanned my computer with both avast! Free Antivirus and Windows Defender and found nothing. I deleted opera and made firefox my default browser, it randomly opened constantly as it did with opera. I restored my system to 04/12/12 and the problem was still present (I also rebooted many times), however, as I deleted opera when restoring my system it was still there as my default browser but, when whatever was causing the problem attempted to launch it, it popped up a window telling that the launcher file could not be run, and so that window popped up randomly and it was actually the same thing, as when I deleted the launcher file, it stopped popping up the window (and a browser, because I had no default browser). When clicking the opera icon in my tool bar it opened opera like it was never rem... Read more

Hi Guys,

I have a problem installing Windows Vista. The installation process works fine until after the 1st reboot that goes to "completing installation". It completely freezes at that point and after 1 hour or so goes to a black screen where i can see nothing but my mouse pointer.

I just got my laptop 2 days ago and it's brand new Vista compatible. In fact it came with Vista installed and it was working perfectly fine until I decided to reformat it so that I could check if my new hd i tried installing was the main reason for this installation failure.

The problem occurs after Windows 10 installs the latest Windows 10 updates.  The first occurrence of difficulty produced deletion of all the Office applications from their respective directories.  The second occurrence produced a transition from
"activated" to "not activated' in Office.  Many, many numbers had to be read over the phone to Microsoft to regain "activated" status.  This won't do.

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this topic but I think it is.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7. Recently I made the decision to restore my system to "out-of-the-factory" settings using the Toshiba program that came with the computer to do this. This went well.

when this was done, the computer restarted, and after the normal start-up screen, it began installing windows.

About halfway through this process, my brother decided it would be funny to turn off the computer in the middle of the installation.

when I turned the computer back on, it went to the windows installation again, but very soon an error message came up saying

"the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

However, after pressing OK, the computer restarts, but the same error message comes up, leaving me in a loop.

So is there anything I can do to fix this? Or does my brother owe me a new computer?

Btw I don't care about losing data, I have everythign backed-up on an external hard drive.

A:"Computer restarted unexpectedly....windows installation cannot proceed" installation loop.

I think you need to reformat C: (delete the partition) and (redo partition) using ntfs drive and restart the installation. Do you have a OS Windows Disk?

Hi all,

I've just had a computer with a HDD error and have run a repair installation of Windows XP on it. This was successful however when trying to open Office programs and also Access the programs and core files seem to be damaged. I tried doing repair installations on these but errors came up, so I uninstalled Office 2007, cleaned the registry with CCleaner and then tried to install again off the CD. This threw up errors again. The error code is Error 2908. Please provide me with some advice urgently.

TIA

Hello,
I was trying to install windows XP home edition in my custom build desktop. Every time I tried to format my hard drive and install windows its coming back with not copying so many files from windows setup. Sometimes its copying the files when I pressed enter but sometimes I had to press esc to skip the file. I tried reformatting and every time it ended up in not copying some different files. These are the steps I have done so far
1) I replaced my optical drive with a brand new cd drive to make sure its reading the disc properly
2) I checked hard disk in BIOS hard drive test and its came back with no errors in it
3) I tried with 3 different windows installation disc to eliminate errors due to scratches on cd surface.

Could anybody please tell me what else I can do to complete my installation properly. Thanks in advance

I am trying to install Windows 7 on my laptop. When I click on "upgrade" it takes me to a compatibility report that says "the computer started using the windows installation disc. Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that windows starts normally." When I remove the disc and try to restart the computer, it takes me to a black screen with a bunch of computer gibberish on it and says "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key". In other words, I am getting a message from windows 7 telling me to reboot my computer without the windows 7 disc, but the computer WILL NOT reboot without the disc. When I click on "custom (advanced)" instead of "upgrade", it takes me to a page that says "where do you want to install windows?" with a blank box and a message at the bottom that says "no drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation"
I have tried everything in my capacity as someone who sucks with computers and need help from someone who doesn't. Thanks for the help.

Hello, I'm having an issue installing a clean install of Windows Vista Home Basic onto my friend's Acer laptop.

To start off, my friend has had a rouge anti virus that more or less destroyed his windows. After doing a system restore for the earliest date available, the virus was gone, but Windows kept asking me on how to open simple things such as Internet Explorer and various other programs, which made the OS unusable. My friend gave me permission to format the drive, and I reinstalled Vista with a DVD of my I had for from one of my PCs, but I used his CD key that was on the laptop. The installation went fine, so I went on my desktop PC and downloaded all of the drivers for his laptop (Aspire 5516), and then installed a sound card driver, and a BIOs update. After the BIOs update, the laptop wouldn't start up again. I tried doing a system restore but it had no restore points, so since I just started, I figured doing a quick format wouldn't hurt.

This is where things got bad. I've tried reinstalling Vista again, but it keeps hanging on the "Completing installation" part. I've tried three times so far, and it always hangs at the exact same part, and now I have no clue on what to do.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated, thank you.

A:Vista installation hangs on completing installation during clean install

Hi ssjChris. Welcome to TSF!

I would suggest you download a copy of Darik's Boot and Nuke (affectionately known as DBAN) HERE and create a bootable CD with it. Then boot with that CD and do a low-level format. That will insure that you don't have all kinds of wonderful dangling stuff on the hard drive. A Windows format doesn't do a low-level format to the extent that DBAN does. Pay VERY close attention to the menus as you use this software as it is very powerful. If you have any external hard drives connected, I suggest you disconnect them.

Once it completes, try your installation again.

Good day!

Okay, so let me first tell you that I am in a state of panic. I have very important data on my HDD and am unable to boot any OS on it now.

I initially had Vista and 7 on it, working, until I decided to uninstall 7 for XP. I deleted the partition 7 was on (C; my primary partition) and installed XP onto it. That went smoothly and all, but after booting it up I noticed it wouldn't let me specify which OS I wanted to start; it would just auto start XP. I went into the bootup settings in XP and changed the time operating systems are displayed from one second, to ten, yet it still just auto-booted XP. I was able to access the data on the other partition in the XP explorer, but seemingly wasn't able to boot from it. So I "backed up" all my data onto a third partition I had created as a failsafe in case something went wrong and I couldn't boot either of my OSes.

It then came to my attention that I had installed Windows XP Professional instead of home edition, so I made a bootable CD with the XP iso and restarted the computer for reinstallation. According to the program, the setup files copied over fine and all, but when it auto-restarted to continue the installation process it would just loop on and off at the BIOS screen. After trying 4 different versions of XP to no avail, I stuck my Vista Home Premium disk in and booted from it. Again, I got to the setup screen and all that jazz, but when prompted to select the location I wanted to install Windows in, I go... Read more

hi

This is a bit of a convoluted story but here goes...

I have an old PC (the oldest of several) which in which I want to upgrade 3 PATA HDs for 2 large (500GB) SATA-1 drives.

PC spec = Asus P4 PE, P4 Northwood 533FSB 3.06GHz, 1 GB pc2700 ram, 2 soundcards (I'm a musician), Win XP SP2 etc.

The first thing I did was enable RAID/SATA in BIOS & then install the Promise 376 Fasttrack RAID/SATA driver on all OS partitions (4 in all, spread across the 3 drives).

Now, of course, a get a quick POST message saying that "no RAID/SATA device detected", because I haven't installed them yet. However this message then disappears and my boot manager utility loads as usual (BootIt NG).

Then it occured to me that I hadn't installed either the Intel Application Accelerator or Chipset Software Installation utilities (as listed on the available downloads for P4 PE at Asus site).

So I installed the IAA first on one partition - but when I tried to reboot into this, the "no RAID/SATA" message came up before and after the BootItNG screen and the system rebooted again.

I got it to boot into the partition again & promptly uninstalled the IAA because I thought it was causing me the problem.

Then I installed the Chipset Installation utility.

This time, after rebooting into the "music" partition, many of the music software applications were not sending MIDI to one of the soundcards correctly, and the selected audio drivers had changed (f... Read more

Hello Folks...........

My C: drive recently started giving me HD521-2W error when I ran "PC Doctor 5 for Windows" diagnostic multiple times in the past few weeks.

I created backup images of both the partitions on this 320 GB HD ( Active partition named "HP_Pavilion" and Primary partition named "HP_Recovery") onto an external USB drive using Macrium Free edition.

I later took PC to a PC repair shop and installed a new 320 GB WD hard drive. However, he DID NOT create 2 partitions as the old drive BUT he made this new drive bootable and downloaded all the necessary drivers.

My questions are :

# 1 ) Is there a tool or an utility I can use to download all the drivers CURRENTLY installed on the old hard drive onto a CD/DVD for later Clean Install of XP?

# 2) How can I make this new hard drive look exactly like the old drive - I mean, it must have 2 partitions using Macrium backups images I already created ?

I hope, I explained this situation to best of my knowldge and created least amount of confusion.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Issue: errors returned by sfc and dism on a clean install. Errors are not self-repairable, requiring manual intervention. Errors are still present immediately after a clean install (i.e. reset to factory image) indicating likely presence in the factory image files/partition.

Intro
Hi,
I think I have discovered my XPS 13 Win 10 Pro factory install and install partition may contain corrupted windows files. This may affect others too.
You may wish to run the commands below and see if you obtain similar results. If so perhaps you should contact Dell. I did, and service said they were going to send me a USB stick with a factory refresh to redo the SSD, but 2 hrs later phoned me back to say all the USBs had been recalled and it would be a few weeks- make of that what you will about the USB fix sticks…
The system I have is an April ’16 delivered XPS13 with Win10Pro, 8GB, 256Gb SSD, HD (1920x1080) non-touchscreen.
---/ A partial resolution will appear in my next post /---
Description
Here’s a synopsis of what I did to discover the issue. My next post includes a (partial) resolution.
After receiving my XPS13 and setting it up, I uninstalled Mcafee and installed Comodo Personal Firewall and Avira Personal Antivirus, plus Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and Citrix Receiver. I connected to my workplace internet, then to home and a relative’s internet. After a few days of gentle internet use I finally obtained a USB key to create the restore backup ... Read more

RESOLUTION OF THE WIN 10 INSTALL OPENCL.DLL CORRUPTION ISSUE
Synopsis
The resolution is simple, if a slightly involved to carry out: You need to optain a copy of a valid opencl.dll in a valid Windows image and point sfc or dism to this image without recourse to elsewhere. This requires a ~6-7Gb download of the relevant windows image for your computer (you’ll need the windows version, e.g. 10.0.10586 and I hope you don’t require two e.g. for 64/32-bit!) then direction of the programs to use that file.

Basic Instructions
The instructions basically are as follows:
1)     Download the relevant windows file for your PC from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench

You should use the Windows 10 selection (K and KN refer to Euro and Korean versions due to legal issues)

2)     Save the ISO disk image to an easily accessible position, e.g. c:\temp\win10iso\
3)     Mount the ISO (right click-it in Explorer and select Mount, it should choose the next accessible drive letter, e.g. D: in my case)
4)     Open an Admin command prompt
5)     Run the command:
“DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:wim:<path-to-install.wim file>:1 /limitaccess”
Where <path-to-install.wim file>:1 is something like: /Source:wim:d:\sources\install.wim:1

I kind of wondering about the motherboard if it has compatiblity issues with Vista but every where I look it says its go to go as long as you upgrade the BIOS which I've done. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or should I consider getting a different board? I need a PCI Express 4X slot on the new one. Thanks for the help.

There's nothing attached.

Where did you get Win7? How is it burned to disk?

Are you booting the installer to Clean Install Windows 7?

During installation process at Steps 7 and 8, use the Drive Options to delete all partitions and create new as you wish, format and click Next to install to first partition. Ignore the small boot partition it creates.
