ISP is claiming nothing is wrong when there is, any ideas on what's wrong?

Q: ISP is claiming nothing is wrong when there is, any ideas on what's wrong?

My ISP (windstream) is claiming nothing is wrong when my town is having trouble connect to internet itself. I don't know about other towns, never go there. I am suppose to have 12 Mb and The most I have had in the past 2 weeks is 3. Friends have even less somehow. Usually 10AM-10PM the average is 300 Kb. I have to pause a video for 10 minutes to load a minute sometimes.

They claim nothing is wrong. Anyone translate that into something that can be wrong?

Preferred Solution: ISP is claiming nothing is wrong when there is, any ideas on what's wrong?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey, I know everyone is tired of seeing this, but lately my computer has just been suffering. I currently have an Intel Pentium 4 with 1 GIG ram, and my computer acts like my old 466. I have been having problems with my computer just rebooting itself automatically then when it comes up, it was due to my video card, All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro. That doesnt seem very right, because before just about a week ago, this thing never even coughed a bit. I checked temps, everything is good, checked drivers, still all good. Did a virus test, none found. Checked my ram, test passed. Is there some type of thing in my Hijack log that I am missing? Please helps..thanks.

With Windows 8.1, I am now having problems displaying and importing jpegs.   They show in odd colors, with a lot of black in them.    This wasn't the case early on, but now jpegs are impossible to work with for me.   I
only use -- Windows Photo Viewer, and place them in WORD documents.  Nothing fancy.   I cannot find a resolution here or anywhere.  Can you help?
.....
This is crazy.  When I try to save the BAD image, it looks horrible (blue, purple, heavy black frame) on my screen in PHoto Viewer, but I import it here and it looks fine.  Please, help.

To all -

My first post in this forum, but I've been around the block a few times building my own machines (and for others), but a month ago i ended up springing for a dell xps 8300 desktop b.c i got a great deal on a scratch and dent system with an i7-2600 processor, 1.5tb drive, and an ATI 5770 1gb graphics card.
So long story short I've added one component and upgraded one existing component. The first was adding an SSD drive to the mix, which worked out wonderfully (i boot from power off to desktop in 13 seconds). Very pleased.
The second seemed to be just as successful...I replaced the stock PSU (460watts) with an Antec 650watt continuous power PSU (certified and all). Reconnected all the cables, crossed my fingers, turned on the power supply...got the green light on the motherboard so turned on the computer and all was fantastic!!!
The catch is..........I didn't notice until hours later i'd not heard a sound from the computer in quite some time. Tested by playing a few songs and nothing.

Here's where i got lost. In the "playback devices" (right clicking on the audio icon in the task manager tray) it shows the music playing (as in the levels are bouncing up and down). First thought - i'm an idiot and plugged my speakers into the wrong hole.....not the case. Second thought - speakers could be toast - not the case. Tested speakers on mp3 player and tested the audio cable by plugging headphones in the front audio ports (th... Read more

Last night, My MS Paint GUI went screwy.

It looks like it is out of Aero mode or something, but Aero troubleshooter found no problem & everything else is fine. I was having an issue with a video game for PC (full screen) which normally fiddles with the Windows theme, but I honestly dont know.

I dont like the adjusted look, and fear this is one of those simple problems with a insanely complex solution.

Thanks in advance, back later

Hi everybody,
since friday we have a strange problem with some clients and ARP answers. We notice that our switch recognize wrong MAC addresses on some ports.
We use wireshark to see what happens and we get the following:
5 clients:

172.30.71.6 (XX:XX:XX:F7:52:75)172.30.41.1 (XX:XX:XX:38:d1:a8)172.30.63.1 (XX:XX:XX:c2:b0:b9)172.30.14.1 (XX:XX:XX:88:c7:4f)172.30.59.1 (XX:XX:XX:7b:67:4d)
Wireshark runs on client 1 (172.30.71.6, promiscuous mod off)
Client 5 (172.30.59.1) send a broadcast arp question (who has 172.30.41.1 - tell 172.30.59.1) and client 1 (172.30.71.6) is sending ARP replies with src = XX:XX:XX: 38:d1:a8.

172.30.41.1 (XX:XX:XX:38:d1:a8) is offline (network cable removed) and 172.30.71.6 has no entry of 172.30.41.1 (XX:XX:XX:38:d1:a8) in his arp cache.
The clients run Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
Why we get these phenomenon and how can we solve it? Is there maybe a problem with some updates of the last patchday?

Thanks for the reply and kind regards

Bernd

Situation 1
-------------
Hello. I had “music store card” [gift card] that I received as a birthday gift lying around so I figured let me it out. Anyway, I purchased 3 songs from iTunes.com. Attempted to burn them. It didn’t work I got some sort of write error on the CD.

While in main screen I clicked Edit > Preferences > Advance > Burning: Discovered that the settings were set to burn an Audio CD. However, I was using a Data CD. Is this why it didn’t work? Last I read up it should have worked. The disk was a CD-R Memorex Cool Color CD-R. This shouldn’t have proven to be a problem right?

This disk can’t be played in Xbox (original not Xbox 360).

Situation 2
-------------
In another situation I tried burning a copy of and an mp3-to-Audio-CD.

When copying the Audio-CD I was using Nero Burn Ultra Edition 6.6.1.4. Got the error message saying along the lines of “write fail, unable to finish end session.” Same thing happened when I was trying to make an mp3-to-Audio-CD, except I was using Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 10.0.

This disk can’t be played in Xbox (original not Xbox 360).

So what am I doing wrong? Here are my objectives:

1) Want to burn audio CDs that will play in cars, stereo systems, DVD players, Xbox, and Xbox360 – when I get it . If I keep purchasing music from iTunes.com, this may prove difficult?

2) What media should I use for what ty... Read more

Hi Guys

I have a PC running Windows XP Pro SP2. I use NOD32 as my Anti-Virus Software.
About a month ago, my computer was infected with a spyware thing which sort of took over the machine and did not let me execute any file like task manager or anything. This was one of those things that forces you to buy their tool for $50 etc etc
I basically managed to get a tool called Sypware Doctor Version 6 and installed that in safe mode and cleaned out that infection.
But my computer has never been the same. I now constantly get virus notifications from NOD32, and keep having recurring spyware install itself which is detected by Spyware Doctor and removed again and again.

Basically, I'm fed up. Things that are unusable now are -
1) Task Manager does not come up normal. I dont get any tabs that let me kill any task running. I only get half of the first screen with running applications
2) Since about a week ago, my DVD Burner has disappeared and is now replaced with 2 CD drives on explorer. I cant burn any disks, but can only create image files using Nero
- There are possibly many more issues that i have yet to even come across...

My questions are -
1) Could all these issues that I'm having be a result of the virus/spyware attacks I had recently? Or is there a possibility that the DVD RW drive may be independantly kaput?

2) I believe that the best/only way to totally clean things out would be to do a fresh install of windows. Is there anything that I can do before that op... Read more

Ok, this is uncharted territory for me, but I'm trying to get a script that will allow users to "email this page to a friend". I found THIS ONE but in trying to implement it, I get the form to come up, but it doesn't show the page link it's supposed to, and when pressing the submit button, I get an error page saying the address in incorrect??? If you look at the page above, I followed all directions to the letter, and the file name IS correct. I tried refreshing the page, out of curiousity, but then the text comes up, without the fill in fields (person's name, site name, etc...)

Hope this makes sense to someone....it's TOTALLY Greek to me, I just wanted to add a nice neat funtion to my site, and it's giving me a headache already!! UGH

Thanks in advance for your input/suggestions! (I'm up for another script/option, if you all can recommend anything too)

TT

[EDIT] Also, will this, or other scripts work ok if I put the link in a shared top or bottom border, so I don't have to add to each page individually??

I need help. I purchased a used Compaq Presario (XP 32 bit) off Craigslist assuming that since it turned on and got on the internet that if it had a virus I would be able to remove it. Well I haven't been able to get a single scan to run. I started with Microsoft Security Essentials and it wouldn't install until I was able to find and remove all other Security Programs- there was a Norton Free, AVG, and Mcafee that appeared to be erased but actually weren't. Once I was able to install it, it wouldn't run a quick scan nor full scan. I could click on them and nothing would happen. Then I tried Malewarebytes. It also wouldn't run. I was told to attempt it in safe mode. When I do that I get the message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. So then I thought I would try Microsoft Saftey Scanner. While not in safe mode I could get it to download and start the scan and then it would just disappear. Then I thought I would try it in Safe Mode but Google Chrome wouldn't open at all, and firefox would open but wouldn't load the microsoft page. I am at a loss of what to do with this laptop... I am in desperate need of help. Thanks.

Using XP Pro, Abit KG7 mboard, Athlon 1600
Currently have my CD-ROM on IDE 1
Adding a new 80GB disk as a slave to my current IBM 41GB via IDE 0

Heres what happened:

Set the jumper on the new hard drive to slave
Attached the Grey end of the ribbon cable to the new disk
Attached the power supply cable
Went into the BIOS and the Board detected the new disk no problem
Saved and booted as normal to the Users password screen
Then put in the password and the machine crashed
I then tried removing the new disk to boot from the original and it would not load after the Verifying DMA successful no matter what boot sequence I choose.
Already tried booting from the XP disk then Repair but it's reported 2 problems with the disk(the disk was fine before).
I've also tried Fail Safe and Optimal settings in the BIOS too.

Do I have any chance of a recovery ?
Or will I have to Format and how can I avoid mucking things up again once I've formatted ?

Any advice or information would be much appreciated

Hello,

I'm having some serious problems with my computer and I hope someone can help.

Running XP Home

When I turn my computer on it boots up extremely slow and then I get an error message saying that my "RPC service terminated unexpectedly and my computer is shutting off in 60 seconds."

Originally my Firefox browser just stopped working, it would crash on startup, but internet still worked. Now I have no internet access, no taskbar, system restore and other control panel options seem to not work as well.

Strangely enough and I don't know if it is related because steam is generally troublesome, but I started having problems with Steam earlier today (gaming platform). Files were corrupt and I basically had to reinstall that.

I read something about the MS blaster worm, but that was happening back in 2003, and I can't get online to download the patch. (I'd imagine I'd have that Windows update anyways..)

I was running an up to date SOPHOS antirvirus and it hadn't picked up anything.

Please help.

Hi,
I am new here
Anyways, somethings weird happened to my computer =[ and since its happening to everything i decided to post here
Sorry that i am new here, i dont know the procedures and stuff but heres my problem.
First of all, recently (about 3 hours to now) the programs on my computer tend to crash a lot. I have noticed that some crashes occur when i try to join a chat channel or room. There are other crashes when its loading or just random crashes that pop out of nowhere. Also everything starting to lag horribly. I have restarted my computer but nothings happened.
Programs that crashed:
Firefox
Garena (not responding but didnt close )
Msn (same with garena)
Heroes of Newerth ( crash whenever i tried to made a new chat channel )
Steam ( when i try to join a chat room with friends crashes)

Got a new HP PC a few weeks ago. Finally getting around to creating recovery disks. Very slow process. Now, on disk one of three, it's been stuck at 51% verification for about 25 minutes. Oh great!

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

A:Something wrong here?

My son's Fujitsu Amilo laptop did that & in the end we got Fujitsu to send us the discs - only took a couple of days. Maybe HP would do that or call their tech support as it's new?

The position in pixels that Indesign shows me looks wrong when putting it into dreamweaver.

Pardon me if I sound stupid in my response, but couldn't you simply alter the absolute location in dreamweaver using the code portion of it, and place it precisely where you want?

I just have no idea what it could be.

I've posted about issues with this computer before but I thought I had things taken care of.

Now, it's running super slow again and freezes frequently.

*EDIT* It keeps saying my virtual memory is low.

I finally have an internet connection to it & it seems to be running worse since I connected to the internet.

I'm not sure if it's a virus or not.

Am I able to post my Belarc Advisor thing so anyone can see what's going on?

Thanks in advance :)

A:I know something is wrong...

please attach your Belarc Advisor. Also download the ISO image for Seatools for DOS. And burn the image with IMGBurn to a CD. Boot off of the newly created CD and run the HDD Diagnostic tests on your drive.

Recently when i turned on my pc it came up with a message asking me would i like to start in safe mode or continue windows normally i clicked continue windows normally and now all i get is a black screen with a moveable cursor i have tried ctrl, alt, delete but that doesnt work nor does going into any of the safe modes (safe mode with cmd, safe mode with networking, etc) here is a video showing you what happens (by the way the first thing that comes up on the computer screen is a message saying the cover was recently removed, I have never been able to get rid of that message.
YouTube - CLIP0018.AVI

A:can somebody tell me what is wrong with my pc?

Your video shows the message "Diskette drive 0 seek failure".
That means your floppy disk drive is kaput and needs replacing. That would stop the PC from booting into Windows if the BIOS is set to "Halt on all errors"

Alternatively, if you never use floppy disks, you can go into the BIOS setup & disable the floppy disk drive. That should stop the error and allow the boot process to continue normally, although the floppy disk drive will not be available or usable till you replace it & re-enable it in the BIOS settings.

I think I ran a file shouldn't have.

It was a .scr file.
When I double clicked it, a big window titled "Security Center Alert" poped up, a long a fake microsoft security center icon in the taskbar.
I couldn't close that window in the old-fashioned way, so I closed it through Processes in Task Manager. The process name was something random (like ghekxcl.exe).

That was a few hours ago. Now, every 10 minutes or so I get a windows popup window saying the application Google Installer has crashed.
My internet connection seem a lot slower than usual (I don't know if that's got something to do with it).
And another thing - also a few minutes ago, my system became super slow. I the task manager I saw a proccess named Administrator.exe which took about 300MB of memory and 99% CPU usage. I terminated it and the system is now working OK.

I think the .scr file I ran did a few bad thing...

I'm pretty sure something is wrong with IE.  I've notice it's going slower than normal and acting weird.  Sometimes I'll get an "Internet Exporler has stopped working error" but what is most alarming is this.

I had a corrupted DNS long ago, although at first I thought it was my computer itself. Then I started getting a squiggly sort of sound whenever I opened a new web page which I later found out was ad blocker making noises to tell me it's working. Then I started getting a hour glass every now and then for no reason, along with some screen problems. Also when I type in my searches the letters don't show up after I've typed a few.

After running DDS (I had to run both programs as admin. DDS I actually had to go into my admin account to run because a run as option didn't appear. For some reason after moving the files from the admin account to the limited account I could not access them at first. Now I can. I would get access denied when I clicked on them in the limited account. Also, the first time I ran GMER I got a blue screen of death a little way through it. The second time I opened it, unchecked the appropriate boxes and hit scan. Then I fell asleep, woke up and it had stopped scanning although I got nothing on screen saying that.)

Let me know if you need the attach file.

A:Don't know what's wrong

Also, my browser tends to freeze up for no apparent reason.

Firstly, I'm new here so hello to you all

Second I hope I'm posting this in the right thread....forgive me if this is not the case...

Third, my issue:

I am trying to calculate the number of instances a date occurs in a range of cells. It is for a work spreadsheet, but for ease of understanding I'll use a DVD hire store.

Let's say I'm making a spreadsheet to list all titles in the store, when they arrived and when they are due to be moved on.

I have three columns - A, B, C

A = The date the movie arrived in store as overnight hire (date format = dd,mm,yyyy)
B = The date the movie is due to go to 3 day hire (date format as above)
C = The date the movie is due to be moved to weekly hire (date format as above)

For tracking purposes, I need these three columns to remain as dates and in the format described (but could cope with changing them to text so long as they remained in the dd,mm,yyyy style of date).

Since there are all different movie titles I simply want the amount of titles due to be moved/sold.

Like this, but in a formula:

""This cell" equals the amount of movies we're expecting to go to 3 day hire for the month of January" and
""This next cell" equals the amount of movies we're expecting to go to weekly and/or sale for the month of February"

"This cell" and "This next cell" live in a seperate worksheet eg listed "expected totals by month".

I've tri... Read more

My computer has been increasingly behaving weird the past 2 months.

1) Firefox keeps opening new windows at inconvenient times that I have never clicked on, never searched for and it's not a pop-up (all pop-ups are blocked)

2) Sometimes my computer won't shut down (I have a laptop). I know it's bad to unplug, so I'd leave it for the night and the next morning it would still stay "Logging off". Then I have no choice but to unplug and reboot. (This doesn't happen much anymore...)

3) Sometimes my win7 theme would flicker to a different outdated windows theme (almost looks like win98!?) and go back to win7 within 1-7 seconds or stay in the old theme until I shut down or restart.

All of this is so unpredictable. I have no idea what to expect or when. I have been suspecting a virus and have run different anti-virus and anti-spyware software (AVG, Norton, McCaffee, Panda, Ad-Aware), but they don't get much. They have removed some trojans and the logging off problem have gone away (until I try to log off tonight, probably), but they don't get much more than cookies anyway.

I've also tried the system restore, but I don't get points further back than 7 days and on trying to create a point, it didn't work. (I don't know how, I guess. I did read the tutorial, but it didn't help me with the correct words or whatever to create the point)

What's going on? Have I done something wrong? Can it be fixed? Is this some kind of crazy virus that no anti-virus software can detect? Sh... Read more

Help!!
i have a problem with a "NEC PowerMate ES - slimline series computer".

I want to install W2000 professional on it. I went through the intial setup. I agreed to their terms, I deleted the old partitions and re-formated in NTFS. Up to this point everything is fine, but when it tries to copy the files from the CD to the harddrive some of the files don't copy over to the HDD. First i thought it was the CD, but i upgraded another computer with it and it worked fine. Then i thought it could be the HDD and replaced it with a spare one, that dindn't work it came back with same problem. Then i thought well...maybe its the CD-ROM and replaced that one two, same thing happend. I then replaced the data cables and still nothing.

i have ran out of ideas, i will appreciate all the help you guy can provide.

but they are minor items that won't make any real big whoopee of a difference. If dumping them causes any remorse, you can always reinitiate them from the backups that HJT makes.

Do you have any problem with the system? It looks like you have kept it in good shape.

I don't know where to start.

I have (had) a computer that I was using to do business work on. It was a Pentium 4 @1.6ghz.

It's about five years old and had a series of problems.

First hard drive went so I replaced it. Then the power source went so we replace that just this past summer.

Next I had installed a brand new hard drive 250 gigs just for storage to leave the other pretty new 80 GB hard drive specifically for the operating system and programs.

I was getting all kinds of problems like it running at 100% even when there was nothing open in the foreground.

I have a hard copy of trend micro virus protection which also is supposed to scan for malicious spy ware etc.

So just by trial and error we thought maybe it was having problems with the ram so we increase the ram to 1 GB.

When it still wouldn't work properly, express shutting itself down in the middle of making an e-mail, not being able to change to a second user, and of course running at 100%.

So I took it back to the same people that change the drives and added the ram and change the power supply.

About two weeks ago they told me that it's the board and the capacitors are leaking. (I looked at the board I couldn't see any capacitors leaking but they pointed out that they were bulged ended the next step would be a leak.)

So I agreed to replace the entire board, and they replaced the processor with an AMD that they told me on the phone was running at 2.5 to 2.8 GHz but when I got it ... Read more

Why is my Local Disk (C already at full capacity of 16.0 GB? I've only had this computer for 5 months. I have many songs downloaded (about 3,000), but not much else. Even if I erase some of them it doesn't create more disk space. How can I make more disk space available, and what are the consequences if I don't create more space?

A:What Am I Doing Wrong?

What's the average file size of those 3000 songs? Multiply that by 5 mb (5,000,000) and you are pretty close to maxed out. You will need to delete a lot more than a few.

The consequences could be very serious; you will run out of "virtual memory" and windows will crash when you run programs requiring more memory than you have available in installed ram.

I started a topic in the "Am I infected? What do I do?" section and was told to move here, so I assume I'm in quite a bit of trouble! =(

I cannot run any anti-malware/spyware/virus programs. Any time I run them, they shut down on their own and the .exe file is deleted. I can't even use GMER!

I have attached the log from DDS and the link to my previous topic. Someone please help me! I really need it!

As a sidenote, I have my computer in Safe Mode and haven't changed that since I realized there was a problem.
