screen issue X230T

Q: screen issue X230T

Hello all. My X230T screen had dead pixels, and laptop was under warranty, lenovo came and changed it.but only a few months after my screen started doing that depending of the inclination. if I move it, it change the "band" color, and on some position, it works OK. I found on aliexpress replacement panels for 50$. Before buying it, I have few questions. 1) My screen has scratches. Is the panel I will buy will directly replace the one that is there, or is there a "glass" in front that I should replace at the same time, or is it the touchscreen ?I imagine there is a protective glass in front because there is the "lenovo" sign showed for instance and it's not present on the panel, and it seems to be same part. To said it other way (sorry for my english), when I put my finger on the screen, do I touch directly the panel (that will be replaced) or is there any sort of covering glass in front? 2) I think some screen problem like this can be due to a faulty cable, but from what I read the problem would be on whole screen, not only on a line like it is now. Can anyone confirm this ? 3) If indeed it's the panel that is defective, in this kind of situation is it possible to "fix" the panel, like I don't know, putting something to "push" on the false contact so the contact stays ? 4) My panel is LP125WH2-SLB3. I'll replace it with LP125WH2-SLT2. Seems the same to me. Or any other model to recommend that would be still IPS (I found lot of "compatible" models that are actually TN) with maybe better colors ? It's been 4 month i'm using the computer like this, and it didn't got worse it seems. I just have to find position for it to work good. But as I'm actually travelling latinoamerica, I have a chance now to get a panel delivered in aliexpress in an adress I will be in 2 months in mexico, after will be too late to get delivery from china. And I don't think in central america I will find replacement. That's why I still think of getting it even if it's "ok" for me like it is now. thanks all

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Keeping it short and simple:I own an X230t with pen and 2-finger touch display.About 2 months ago a sixth of the screen on the left starts turning rainbow colours as seen below.Sometimes it'll fix itself.Or by pressing on the bottom left corner just under the problem section relieves it as can be seen in the video below. Attempted solutions:The problem became  quite annoying so I read around. Some said LCD cable some said internal panel separation.Hoping it was cable I opened. No visible damage on cable and LCD was fine. Closed the enclosure.Problem back. Opened with power on so that I could see if I fixed it. One corner of the LCD cable did look like it was not seated on the panel connector by a hair's width. Made sure it was definitely seated properly. I lose display.Panic, check it out with a torch. Display still works but no backlight. And the left side still has issues. What works:External video output. Monitor via DP works perfectly fineTouchscreen still worksPen still works What can be done?:I need help figuring out what to do next or what to replace first. Is the backlight issue due to the cable or blown fuses?Do I replace the cable? If the fuses are blown do I short or replace them?Should I and is it worth replacing the motherboard?Panel definitely needs replacing but last maybe? Why did work on it while powered?:I know it's practically a taboo but there was A LOT OF STRESS eslewhere in my life. Will I make the same mistake under the same or hig... Hello
I have recently purchased a lenovo thinkpad x230 tablet from ebay. The seller specified that the laptop supports both touch and pen input. But only the pen works, the touch screen doesn't work.
After searching online quit a bit, I discovered that some models of x230t are only pen input (no touch).
But I don't know if that is the case with my laptop or is it some hardware or software problem, and I wasn't able to find any online documentation about the models that support touch.
My model number is: 3438-2S1, and my serial number is: XX-XXXXX.
Also attached is a photo of my laptop screen, if it helps in anyway.
Can anyone please help me?

Hi Everyone,  I lost the plastic locks for my X230T screen as shown in the pictures. Does anyone know where I can buy and find replacements?  Thanks!

A:X230T lost plastic screen locks

They are a weak point on that model (also X220T).  I have tried using every kind of glue I could think of, but nothing works very well.  The original is pressed in and there is a little rubber pin with a "mushroomed" tip that is forced through a hole that looks too small.  The only choice that works is to find a NEW keyboard bezel, probably directly from Lenovo.  If I remember correctly, X220t and X230t use different keyboard bezels.  There is a notch cut at the top on the X230t to make room for the different power switch on the keyboard.

Hi all,

I've been really satisfied with my X230T, and It has accompanied me on a round the world adventure and it's been through quite a bit and we've bonded pretty well.

Problem Description
It's still functioning fine however the left 1/5th section of the screen has begun to uncontrollably flicker in a variety of colors and sometimes just goes completely dark. This issue unfortunately came up about two months after my warranty expired when I was in the middle of China traveling.

Here are a few pictures of the flickering/lines of color that come up.

Problem Isolation
Seeing as the problem fluctuates and worsens/gets better depending on screen position and movement, I'm 99.9% it's a hardware problem. After taking apart the laptop and playing around with connectors I'm pretty sure it's the LCD cable (FRU 04W1775), which I've ordered a $10 replacement from eBay.

A:X230T Screen flickering/lines problem

I believe it is not the cable. When the screen is assembled, the logic circuits connect to the rows and columns of LCDs (row and column drivers) with a contact tape that has one contact per line of pixels. Your tape has delaminated along the bottom. I have never been successful in fixing this problem on any screen.  Pressure along the tape makes temporary contact.  You probably need a new screen. You are certainly welcome to change the cable, since you bought one, although it is a pain to get the wires run correctly.  I have a couple of screens here and I have been buying tablets having bad screens on eBay, so if you decide you want to sell yours for a down payment on a new one, send me a pm.  Sorry

Hi, My issue is that my Thinkpad x230t screen is somethimes just freez. More accuratly maybe will be to say as it seems like someone put a gray or sometimes black box on the screen. Sometimes you can see few lines on pixel from the screen and if i press the winkey over and over i can see something happen, and sometimes everything is just grey or black.  Basiclly i have a docking station so i can say the following:1a) when this happens and i connect it to external monitor - everything works fine. So i guess its not the GPU.1b) Also i guess it is not a program issue.2) Lenovo test program doesnt detect any issue.3)The issue seems to randomaly appear. Also the time the screen freezing is randomanly. It can be 5 sec or 5 min.  Anyone had something similar?I thought maybe this is the cable, but than i would expect that if i move the screen i will see a response.Thanks.

Hi, on hindsight I should have asked this question at this forum first. But I was tired from doing all the researching and bit on an old x230 convertible laptop off ebay that supposedly has core i7 3520M, 4gb of ram, and 160gb ssd. It has been upgraded to windows 10. It has not arrived yet. At around $200, it seemed to me like a steal for the specs. I do think that these specs were user-upgraded and not factory-made so I cannot speak for the quality.I read rave reviews about this device, however, most were from several years ago. I never owed a device with this specs or a touchscreen laptop for that matter so I do not really know what to expect.I guess I will start out to see if anyone still second this as a solid convertible laptop in today's standard. Does windows 10 run well on it? Seem like a lot of people run into problems when upgrading to windows 10? Is there anything special about the touchscreen or is it just obsolete technology nowadays? I mean the most resource intensive thing I will do on this laptop is just playing some online flash games so I think it is way less than what it is capable of. I was just looking for a laptop that is upgradable and can stay relevant for a long time so did I make the right call? Any feedbacks are appreciated!

Has anyone had any issues upgrading their x230T from Windows 7 to Windows 10? The installer demanded that I uninstall my Wacom ISD driver before upgrading, and I want to make sure there are available Wacom pen drivers for Windows 10. In addition, does the rest of the x230T features work with Windows 10 (i.e. trackpoint, fingerprint reader, volume/microphone, screen rotate, and ThinkVantage button)? I don't want my x230T to go from being a convertible laptop/tablet to being a regular old laptop with a spinny screen.

Hello people of the Lenovo forums. A friend of mine just gave me his Lenovo x230t, it looks like he tried formating it and handing it over to me but he didn't install all the drivers or what not. The laptop itself is from France (french keyboard) and I think when he installed the windows it was in french as well, I changed the setting and made it so everything is in english but when I installed the Lenovo System Update app it installed it in french and I cannot change it, same goes for Realtek. I went through this websites find and recommed me stuff to install, and it did install all the intel drivers and a bios update also I myself installed the driver that activates the tablet keys (screen rotate, task manager). My question is should I just clean install all over again? I got the windows key here so should I just reinstall the whole PC? its new so I got nothing important on it. If so, how should I go about it? I don't have the windows disk or any other driver disk. Another issue is that I cannot use my fingers on the touch screen, it only works with the stylus. I've seen people online scrolling through web pages and PDF using their fingers in touch, also using some other cool functions like opening all the curret apps in a scroll by pressing 4 fingers against the screen. Do I need to install a certain driver to do it? if so where? Sorry for writing so much and thank you for taking the time and reading it.I apologize if I broke an... Hello and welcome,

I'd be inclined to do a clean install, followed by System Update.  Since Win 10 has already been activated on that machine you likely won't need the key.

You can download Win 10 direct from Microsoft.  I haven't looked at the MS tool lately and don't know if the download varies by version (Home, Pro, ...) but if it does pick the one that matches your key.

Any other OS, such as linux Mint, the fan will continue at full speed.  Has anyone encountered this issue before or has any advice on how to further diagnose the issue?  Kindly Appreciated,Adam

Hey guys. It's me again. And I can't find a solution to this.Lately I've got USB 3.0 issues. In Device Manager it shows 2 drivers and devices as "Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode)". I don't know why it came up but this is driving me crazy. I've got toast notifications from this. My USB 3.0 flash disk won't always connect to laptop. And when it will connect, it takes a while before it does. But in Win7 all worked perfectly and I really don't know a solution to this.I tried reinstalling driver, updating. But it's working for a while. After that it's still showing an error. And there's no USB 3.0 drivers from Lenovo for Win10. Has anyone encountered that kind of problem in their ThinkPads? Or anywhere?

Hello and welcome,

1st: your subject and content don't seem to match.  Do you in fact have multiple drives installed? Which one holds the OS you're trying to update?

2nd: are you trying to do the update via Windows Update?  Sometimes downloading the full installer and running setup from that - or even creating bootable media and running that - can get around WU failures.

Sorry I can't address x230t specifics.

Hi, I got this Lenovo x230 Tablet about two months I think and so far I love it. There is one issue that I do not understand what the problem is, which means I can not fix it. I did not get the laptop for gaming purposes, however there are some rather old games (by today's standards) that would run with no issue with the specs on the laptop, and I know that some of them work fine. The problem is that the others do not seem to register neither the touchpad taps & clicks, nor the keyboard Left & Right Clicks. And using the touchscreen does not work either (although I was not expecting it to). The cursor moves just fine and it shows options being highlighted in the game's opening menu. Even the game keyboard shortcuts worked fine, just not any clicks or taps. I have gotten it to register a few times, but only when I have the game windowed and click back into the window it will register the click where it was, for that split second. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice for me. Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello Friends,

I recently purchased a Lenovo X230 tablet PC (3435-24U) and I love it.
After MUCH debate with Lenovo, however, I think I have determined this: While the unit has a symbol for a light (either backlight on keyboard or thinklight on screen) on the spacebar, this particular model does not have that feature.

1. It's a shame because it's a great feature, and I hope my diagnosis is wrong, but when I press the function key and space bar together, I get no light, and get a symbol on the screen of a light with a circle/slash through it. Seems like no light to me, yes?

2. As a fallback, I see that X230 BACKLIT replacement keyboards are available for under $50 on the internet and wondered if any of you had any luck switching out a non-lit keyboard for a lit one, either by yourself or with professional help.

Any insight on either issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you...

Here a comparison between a white paper at cloudy daylight and the white of the screen at maximum brightness:  It is said that for the X230T there is only one panel manufacturer, so it should not be a question of where the replacement part was produced. Does anybody have similar experiences? Would another change improve the situation? Thanks!Spot

I've tolerated this issue for way too long, but now that I use the X230t as my only work computer, the value of the docking station has become apparent.  But it turns out it's not all rainbows and unicorns.  If I use the dock's DisplayPort, the dock ethernet is disabled. If I unplug the dock's DisplayPort and use the laptop's DisplayPort, the dock ethernet works and the laptop ethernet is disabled.  It doesn't make sense that I can't leave all the peripherals connected to the dock so I can undock freely. Is there a known fix for the dock's DisplayPort disabling the dock ethernet?  X230t 3435-22U with 16GB RAMDock base FRU 04W6468 Ultrabase Series 3

Recently my X230T stopped internet connectivity suddenly and I couldn't connect to Internet as the wireless network adapter failed to connect to the existing profile in the network list. I also had a look in Device Manager and it seems that there is no issue but when I looked at the BIOS there was no mention on wireless network config in Advanced menu. I had an assumption that it might be hardware problem rather than adapter? I tried to use USB wifi dongle but not availed to work effectively. Any suggestions for remedy is greatly appreciated.

A:/Lenoxo x230t help finding rubber latch

Hi halo - Have you had it sorted? I'm having same problem. Actually mine started from another place - the rubber nub at the right front cornor of the palm rest went off and missing. Because of that the cover started sliding back and forth a little when it was closed, and I'm quite sure it was the reason the latch was broken. Lenovo support did not know what part it was and said they wouldn't cover it anyway. These kind of small defects of Lenovo sometimes really drive me nuts.

HelloI wanted to update softwares on my x230t laptop with windows 10 I messed up a bit, installed lenovo companion, lenovo settings, then lenovo settings dependancy....  And figured out in the end just companion is necessary, so desinstalled lenovo settings without problem, then lenovo settings dependency which uninstall all the little lenovo settings apps.... Except one: "lenovo settings - power" which stays and if I try to uninstall it it says "execution impossible on your system". I'd like to put all that clean so remove this app if useless, as companion give me access to all settings, especially the one I wanted with all of this: recalibration of battery. Thanks in advance dears
