How to adjust volume (Inspiron 7459)

Q: How to adjust volume (Inspiron 7459)

Greetings, I just received my new inspiron 7459. I have a PS4 connected to the HDMI IN port. How do I mute or decrease the volume when using this port? The hardware buttons on the side of the monitor only seem to adjust the screen brightness.
The keyboard commands for adjusting volume work fine when using the computer itself, but do nothing when the PS4 is being used.
Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Skridger,Thanks for posting.Since you just got this, does it have the Windows 10 Anniversary Update or just Windows 10? PS4 connected to HDMI in. See the bottom of this page which shows an Xbox connected to HDMI in. It says, ""Press Button 1 to launch Dell customized volume UI". http://dell.to/2iJtGU9

Is there a way to control the volume on the Inspiron 24 7000 (7459) when my devices (tablet, phones, PS3) are connected through the HDMI In port?  It defaults to the loudest settings and I cannot control make it softer on my tablet or phone.  There doesn't seem to be any volume controls on the computer itself.  Only on the keyboard, and those do not work.  I have looked in the manuals and cannot find anything.  Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Inspiron 7459 volume controls?

Apologies that you have not received a response. Did you ever resolve this? On the taskbar on the right, do you see a speaker icon or a Dell Audio icon? The keyboard volume needs the Dell OSD (On-Screen Display) Application installed.

ok so I've got myself a Inspiron 24 7459 which is a lovely computer. I've got no complaints. Just that how the <profane> am I supposed to turn down the volume or mute it completely when I'm using it? like when I'm using the computer you know it's easy stuff, but when I plug in my hdmi so that I can play my video game on my pc, it's loud as <profane>, you understand? So like I've found one way to fix it and it's to mute my computer entirely but, I've got music coming out of my Bluetooth speakers, I don't want to mute that too man. Btw just so we're clear right, this isn't a pc game I'm talking about, my pc has the option to switch to PC mode or hdmi, I'm playing the Wii u on this thing man.

I am replacing the two 4Gb chips with 1x 16Gb chip. I understand I need to put it in the primary RAM slot but I cannot see anything to tell me which one that is. Is it the one closest to the bottom of the motherboard or the one nearest the bottom of the computer?
Can anyone help, please?

My Inspiron 7459 is running with BIOS version 1.6.0. Yes, I know, the "Drivers & downloads" section of the support page shows the latest BIOS as version 1.5.0. Nevertheless, mine has 1.6 installed. I installed v1.6 myself and I guess Dell subsequently removed v1.6 and replaced it with the older v1.5.
I'm wondering whether I should revert back to 1.5.0?
The machine exhibits some strange behavior (I use the HDMI in to support a second computer and sometimes the 7459 won't wake up forcing me to unplug the power and start anew, yesterday I had to move the mouse on Dell machine to get the second machine to awaken etc) I wonder whether this 'unsupported' BIOS has anything to do with it.

A:Inspiron 7459 BIOS 1.5.0 vs 1.6.0

Major Bystander,There seem to be lots of discussion on the internet in reference to this topic in Windows 10. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed.Basically, the Display Driver is primarily responsible to cause this to happen. In Windows Power Management you can tell Windows not to turn off the USB and PCI. Fix: Windows 10 won’t wake up from sleep after the Anniversary Update

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

A:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

My three-month-old Inspiron 24 shuts down (no response from mouse, keyboard or touch screen) but the power light stays on. When I long press the power button to try to shut it down completely, the light turns red. I have to pull the power cord, wait a minute and then power back up, after which it seems fine. This has occurred three times in the last week.
Is it hardware or a software issue?

My Inspiron 24 7459 shuts down randomly including when it is being used. The only way to restart it is to unplug it and plug it back in then power it on. This has been happening off and on for about 8 months.
It is not running hot; BIOS is up to date; none of the online diagnostics reveal an error.
The unit's warranty expires in 19 days.

I own an Inspiron 24-7459 all in one pc with a 1TB HDD + 32GB SSD.
The entire PC works perfectly which is really good news but I noticed something throughout the days since I've been using this PC.
There is a 12 second delay before the Dell boot logo shows up and that small spinning circle thing at the bottom of it, then the rest of the PC boots fine, I even ran the diagnostics in the boot menu and said there are no errors.
Is there meant to be a 12 second delay like this or is there a problem with it? The 12 second delay has happened ever since the day I purchased this PC.

A:Inspiron 7459 delay before boot

Always include version of Windows in your posts.
Have you checked the boot sequence in BIOS setup to make sure your boot hard drive is first? Do things improve if you disconnect all peripherals, except mouse, monitor and keyboard?
Since upgrading to the new Win 10 Anniversary Edition, I'm also seeing a delay during booting on my Inspiron laptop, so I wonder if this is just a Windows thing...

Hi there,
My company bought two maxed out Dell Inspiron 7459, all-in-one PCs. We are going to use them to run a professional control program simultaneously, both as each others backup. When both systems run, computer 1 will be switched to HDMI-Input, to double the desktop surface to allow easy control by an operator.
First setup was smooth, it all runs well, and is stable, except for one thing: We cannot get the touch feature of the screens to work, when they are connected to each other thru the HDMI-Input. They recognise each other when connected, but "system" sees them as Generic plug&play monitors, instead of touchscreen ones.Touch control is mandatory for this system to be used.
Both pc's are running Windows 10, fully updated. We've tried tricking the pc's with installing a Dell 24inch 1080p multi-gesture touch monitor, but it didn't work.
Who can get me the driver, or help us out another way?
Best,
M.

Hello,

I noticed that the fan on my Dell Inspiron 7459 was running high and low sporadically, so I ran the system diagnostic from the UEFI/boot, and it told me "one or more thermal sensors out of range"-- Are thermal sensors replaceable? or is this possibly an issue with heat-sink mounting?
I've added a picture with the error message on the top right. It appeared during the diagnostic, and then stopped the progress.
thanks for your help! I've checked the 7459 repair manual, but it does not mention anything related to the thermal sensor.

A:Inspiron 7459 AIO: Thermal Sensor Out of Range

Hmm.  First off, the thermal sensors are generally built into the motherboard and are not replaceable.  If they are going bad, the motherboard has to be replaced.  I would go into the BIOS and reset everything to default.  Sometimes there is a setting in BIOS that gets a bit off.  If that doesn't work and you are out of warranty, you can try re-seating the heat sink assembly and redoing the thermal paste and see if that works.  If you are under warranty, i'd have Dell deal with it.

Hi Everybody,
I have a brand new Inspiron 24 7000 Series (Model 7459) with Windows 10. After an hour or so in sleep mode, the computer crashes.
Also, if I put it in sleep mode and awaken it in a few minutes, the computer comes back with the spacebar key stuck (the cursor flies across Notepad) and when I try to click the Windows start icon, it only opens the Cortana menu. After a few minutes this behavior stops and every functions normally.
Any ideas?

A:Dell Inspiron 24-7459 has no sound coming from speakers

tiger28the internal speakers
Hello. Did you plug in headphones or external speakers to check whether audio is coming through the headphone jack?
If audio is coming through the jack but not the internal speakers, run the ePSA audio test to see if the speakers have failed.
If there is no audio from either the speakers or jack then the problem is not the speakers, so try reinstalling the audio driver. Open the Device Manager and expand the Sounds...Controllers section. Right click on Realtek HD Audio and select to uninstall. Do not put a check mark in the option to delete the files. When you reboot, Windows will re-install the Realtek driver by rebuilding it from the files. The point of doing that is the rebuilt driver will have the default configuration which will correct any misconfiguration issue.
If that doesn't fix it the next step would be to install a fresh copy of the driver from the support page.

When I first got my PC, the sound quality was absolutely atrocious (no bass present at all) so I did a few tweaks which gave me a bit more bass and some of that low range.
But when I play anything that has low notes or is bass boosted, I hear rumbling sounds from the speakers as if they're broken, and it's just frustrating to listen music on because I'm always having to hear rumbling in the background.
I tried plugging in external speakers, same issue with the rumbling on low notes.

What could be causing the rumbling problem or could it be that my speakers are faulty?

Thanks

Hello,

I bought one of these last year. I changed the standard config of 1TB storage with 32GB SSD cache to be two separate drives:

32GB SSD - Boot (C:)
1TB HDD - Other Volume (D:)

I mistakenly thought 32GB would be enough for the OS with all data and other apps residing on D:.
I now realise I need to upgrade the SSD somehow to battle the constant low space issue.
I understand it is an M.2 SATA drive?
I'm not afraid of rebuilding the machine .
I don't want to have to go back to using the 1TB as the boot drive

Can anyone help and advise if it is possible please?

A:Dell Inspiron AIO 24-7459 32GB SSD upgrade to larger capacity

It is an M.2 SATA drive, yes - but from looking at other posts, it's limited to a 42 mm long drive (most M.2. SSDs are 2280 -- 22 mm wide by 80 mm long);  these won't fit.
There are reports that 512M and under drives will work - however, in 2242 format these cost more than 2280 drives, and they're probably limited to that capacity (2280s go up to 2T in capacity now)
Here's the type of drive you need (for example only).

Hey guys,

I posted this earlier in the Multimedia thread but was told to post it here.

I have been having trouble with my sound this past week. Is stays at 100%. I try to slide my volume, but it quickly goes back to 100%. I don't know what the problem is. I have ran dxdiag and it says there are no problems found. My speakers are Conexant High Definition SmartAudio. I have tried pretty much everything: googling it, but no answers there.

I do believe my roommate has something to do with it. He went to high school for technology, and after a dispute over my music being too loud he said he would start to control my volume. Some time during the week, I had found my computer had mysteriously restarted. So this has led me to believe that he has installed a program, which allows him to control my volume. I want to make sure he's doing this, so he can face the consequences. I just need your help. Is there something installed in my computer? What can I do to get rid of it?

There's also another strange thing that occurred. After posting this in the Multimedia thread, my volume somehow became adjustable again. Weird. I now have a feeling he can see what I do on my computer, and realized I posted this? I am so confused. I just would like answers.

Thanks so much beforehand. My operating system is Windows Vista and I have an HP Notebook PC, if that helps.

Plug your headphone jack in the audio in port.
Right Click on the volume speaker icon on the bottom right hand side on the desktop..
Select Playback devices
Then right click on your headphone icon
Select properties
Go to the levels tab and set the volume as per your wish.
Click Apply / Ok

Now unplug the headphone and plug it back in and check if this helps. Awaiting for your response.

I just got a new ac11 sound bar.
It is impossible to adjust sound volume using its volume knob.
But I am able to adjust sound volume with the windows volume control widget.
My OS is windows 7 .

I tried my ac511 on another laptop, the volume knob works well.So I guess the hardware is all right.
Could anyone help me with this?
Thanks very much!

A:AC511 SOUND BAR,could not adjust sound volume with volume knob

Based on your tests, the AC511 hardware is ok.* Turn the comptuer and monitor off* Mount the AC511 to the monitor slots after removing the plastic strips* Plug the AC511 USB cable + USB extension cable directly into the Windows 7 computer USB port* Turn the monitor on, then the computer* Re-test

I'm running Windows XP Professional with Realtek HD Audio. In my Master Volume mixer when I go to "Options" and then "Properties" Realtek HD Audio Output is selected as the Mixer device and "Playback" is ticked. "Recording" is shaded. When I bring the volume adjusters up there's all the sliders and under each slider is a box marked "Mute". If I change the Mixer device to Realtek HD Audio input "Recording" is ticked and "Playback" is shaded. When I bring up the volume adjusters for recording there's the sliders, each with a box marked "Mute" underneath, except all of the sliders, except "Recording" are shaded out. "CD Volume" "Mic Volume" "Line Volume" and "Stereo Mix" are all shaded.

In Realtek's Mixer those devices don't even HAVE sliders.

Any ideas why I can't adjust my levels?

Well the title pretty much says it all. Every time I have a program open and I use the keyboard to adjust the volume the program that I am using minimizes. I searched these forums for an answer but couldn't really find anything. Does anyone else have this problem? I am not sure what to do and want to fix it.

This is on a computer less than a week old.

Hi and welcome

do you have any application that 'maps' specific keys? Was this an upgrade? what keys are you using for the volume?

Thanks

I would like to increase an normalize songs volume on my Sony mp3 player. Apparently "Mp3gain" is the best, but it's not compatible with Windows 10. Any suggestions for a free alternative ?

I'm not following you entirely, but have you tried (R) clicking on the "mute box" selection when it appears? Does the speaker icon in the task bar have a red "X" on it? Have you gone to "system" in the control panel...than selected 'hardware' to get a look at 'device manager' and what see what it's saying? On your sound mixer click on everything that has a red "x" on it. I'm not meaning to oversimplify, but I think you will discover an easy way out of this problem once you know how to handle the Window mixer console.

Hi everybody,

My problem is that I cannot adjust the volume of video clips 'normally' when using Media Player Classic. Whenever I use this program, it does not allow me to increase/decrease the volume on my default volume scale, instead, it uses a built-in volume scale and therefore forces me to use that stupid scale.

How can I disable this annoying feature of Media Player Classic so that I can adjust the volume as normally as when I use other programs.

Thanks in advance!

A:Adjust volume in Media Player Classic

1. Open Media Player Classic > View > Options > Playback > Output > Change to either your sound card name or DirectSound then apply.

2. Open up my computer

3. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourloginname\Application Data\

4. Delete the Media player classic folder

5. Restart.

Hi
I'm using Intel Audio Studio - Sonic Focus 7.1 - Sigma Tel
I have Soundblaster 7.1 desktop powered speakers with a wired/remote on-off switch
with volume and bass controls.
Out of the clear blue, I can't adjust the volume for my headphones with the Soundblaster controls. When I unplug the headphones, the Soundblaster volume control works fine thru the speakers. I get sound ok when the headphones when they're plugged in, but the Soundblaster volume control does nothing. The system volume control, and WMP volume controls work fine on the headphones. It's just the controls on the Soundblaster that have no effect on the headphones.
Thanks.

A:Cant adjust volume on headphones Sonic Focus

You need to re-install the sound drivers
I couldn't find the exact drivers, except for a page here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SO...gmatel-STAC-92XX-Audio-Drivers-006-5682.shtml

If it is an addon sound card just search and download from the manufacture
If it is intergrated into your computer, just search your motherboard drivers

Can not access sndvol.exe to create a shortcut to allow keyboard to control volume.

I am using a Standard PS2 wired keyboard for my HP Elite 8000 system. Details in my signature.

I discovered the following and wish to implement with my basic keyboard:

1) click your start menu. Type ?sndvol? in the search box at the bottom
2) Right-click-drag the sndvol program icon to your desktop and select the ?Create shortcuts here? option
3) Right click on the new shortcut and hit properties
4) Go to the shortcut tab, and click inside the ?shortcut key? box.
5) Make your shortcut key combo. For example I use ALT + F12. Hit apply and OK to close the dialogue box.

Although I am Administrator, I am being blocked from shortcut key which indicated "None" at the moment, to make create a shortcut to do what is suggested in the above instructions.

Can anyone advise a way to unblock (allow) me; or a workaround to adjust my volume and add a mute button shortcut from my keyboard (preferably from the up/ down arrows on the numeric pad) without going to a third party software or a purchasing new keyboard?

Thanks in advance.

This has been annoying me for quite some time now.. Whenever I plug in headphone to my Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD, the Realtek Audio Manager does pop-up an annoying message that I connected headphones, but it does not adjust the volume accordingly. It's slowly driving me insane that I cannot find a solution to it. To my knowledge it has been default since a few years that laptops recognise and memorise different volumes for the headphone-jack or the internal speakers. I have found several topics on this, dating back to 2013 already even (like here), where this was possible with a single click in the Realtek Audio Manager. But then, years later, in this topic of 2018 it seems it is not possible anymore? I cannot find any of the suggested settings in the Realtek Audio Manager, nor in the Sound or Device settings. Under "Device advanced settings" I do have an option to separate the inputs as different devices, indicating to me that it is possible for the outputs as well! Does anyone know how to solve this once and for all?
