510-a010 tower no power

Q: 510-a010 tower no power

Hello. My new (1) month old computer has no power. It's a tower but has a power supply on the cord like a laptop.90W 19.5V.My multimeter says it is only putting out 16 volts.Computer does nothing. Would a 3.5 volt drop in this power cause this?HP support only open 9-5 M-F and it's Sat night.Seems like such a small power supply for even the little tower this is.Can I get this under warranty? Thanks for your time.Robert

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi, I am going to upgrade my graphic card to ATI 5770 so I need a new power supply which has power about 550--600 watt. But the most frustrating problem is that I failed to find a proper power supply with the correct dimension.
I have an HP pavilion e9300 which uses a very wired power supply tower-150mm(W) 86(H) 140(D). But so far all the PSUs I found is the standard size --150mm(W) 86(H) 150(D) which cannot fit in my setup.

So could any PC God give me some suggestion, please??
Is any PSU with the size of my tower or can I just simply install a bigger PSU which can still successfully power up the comptuer?

Thx in adance.

A:Power supply bigger than the tower - frustrated by HP PSU tower

If the power supply will physically fit your case, it should work fine with your computer. Will the extra 10mm interfere internally with anything inside the PC?

Hi there,

We've got 3 Dell precision towers 5810 that work great, except for a possible bios bug, which I can reproduce on all machines:

I'm using the installed NIC: Intel ethernet server adapter i210-t1.
Our computers go powerless every night (mains power) after a normal pc shutdown. Every morning, when the power is back on, I want to wake up all computers in our building with Wake On Lan (WOL) by sending a 'magic packet' over the network.
This normally works well if the machine has been switched on and off with the power button / windows shutdown. But when I unplug the machine (mains power), wait and plug in the mains power again, the computer does not respond to the WOL packet. (Maybe the PCI-E NIC does not get power on plugging in the mains of machine for the first time).
It works well on the integrated (motherboard) NIC. BIOS / power / sleep state settings seem to be ok.

Please help. My on/off power button on the front of my tower is disconnected from my motherboard. Where exactley should I reconnect it too? So I can power up my computer. Thanks

A:no power to tower , power switch hookup

Not all motherboards are the same. To find the correct header pins you have to refer to the motherboard manual although sometimes the motherboard labels the pins clearly enough so you can figure it out. However, with the motherboard installed in the case, it could be difficult.

If you can't find your manual, try going to the motherboard's manufacturer site to download a copy of the manual (usually a pdf format). If you have a major manufacturer made PC (Dell, HP, Gateway, Emachines, etc.), you might have to try their websites. Good info from those sites might be hit or miss.

Im working on Compaq something tower. Doing a favor for the mother in law. This tower is her co-workers and asked if I could look at it.

At first glance, all the internal cables and wired are firmly attached. So I direct my attention to the power source, It is equipped with a green led light (to tell its getting power I assume). This little green light is not lighting up when plugged in. Its doing nothing. Power source model is a Bestec ATX-250-12z

Any ideas or suggestions?

A:Tower not getting power?

Hi garaboldi,

This might sound daft, but I've done it before. Have you made sure that you have plugged it in and switched on at the wall socket? Is there power to the wall socket? Try with another appliance that you know is working. Does the fuse need changing in the plug, and is the wiring secure?

I just got back from being out of town; went to check my email and my computer won't turn on. Everything else is getting power just fine: printer, scanner, router, modem, keyboard, screen. The light won't even come on on the tower. I have: unplugged and replugged from tower and the wall; tried a different and known-to-work power cord; used the toggle on the back of the tower to turn on and off; held the on button in for 5-10 seconds; opened up the case and made sure everything inside is seated firmly.

Any thoughts? I'm a pretty basic user but can follow directions!

Thanks.

I left for the weekend with the computer on, but screen saver running..blah blah....I come back to the power off in my room. It seemed that there was a surge or the breaker popped. But, now that the power is back on everything in my room is fine, except the computer tower. The monitor, speakers and everything else is fine, but the tower won't turn on. I even used the same power cord for a different tower in my room and that turns on, but my computer won't. Anyone have any suggestions, I'm kind of stumped and tapped out on ideas?

Top suspect would be the power supply, it's the first thing in the line of any surges.

Got a store-bought Gateway SX-2800 model which is a mini-tower. Upgrading the video card, and as a result I am also upgrading the power supply.

Being a mini-tower, will it definitely need a specialized power supply, or will a standard PSU work?

If it needs a specialized PSU where do you suggest getting them and how - would I take the dimensions of my PSU and then talk to a manufacturer? Or would buying a new case along with a standard PSU be cheaper?

When I boot up my system, it gets to the CD drive and then the hard drive light comes on, but it doesn't go past that. It just hangs and the monitor doesn't show the boot up progress.

But...

If I turn on the power, then off, then on again real quick, the system beeps, and boots up like normal.

I am assuming it is a power button malfunction or power gone bad on the tower in general.

But...

When I go to shutdown, it does its usual thing, but then there is no "it is now safe to shutdown" screen, and the hard drive light is red and hangs, but whenever I boot up, it doesn't try to scan for errors. So the system thinks it is shutting down like normal.

I downloaded and installed the latest Via Hyperion 4 in 1 drivers, which my motherboard works off of, and it didn't help.

I have the latest update for McAfee and it doesn't find any viruses.

A:My tower Power button will not work

You could have a defective power switch on the PC case. Test this by using the reset switch as a temporary power switch. The power switch and the reset switch are the same for practical purposes except, of course, the size of the button (on most cases). If the reset switch works and is able to start the PC, then you know the power switch is defective.

I've just bought a new tower with Windows 7 on it and tried installing it today, it's now 12 hours later and i cannot get monitor, keyboard, mouse to work. They were working last night with the old tower. The light comes on the monitor but turns to orange and says No signal.
The buttons on the front don't wnat to work at all i have to use the one at the back and i have no clue what to do next.
I thought it would be a good idea to buy exactly what i wanted but maybe i've made a mistake and should have bought one 'all in'.
Trouble is i'd bought the accessories not too long ago and i was loathe to buy new just for the sake of it.

Hello,
I am having trouble with the prongs where the power cable is plugged in on the back of the tower. The computer does not come on unless I jiggle the prongs. The computer stays on just fine, then, so long as I don't turn it off. If I have to turn it off, then to get it on the next time, I have to jiggle the prongs again. I have already replaced the power cord, so I know it's not that. Have you ever heard of this happening? Is it possible to replace this part?
Thank you for your help! Maggie

That power cable goes into the power supply. If the cable is good, there is something wrong with the prongs of the power supply. Do you have a spare to swap to confirm?

About a month ago I found my computer tower was still 'on' but the screen was black and the green power light on the tower had turned amber. The light wasn't blinking, it was steady. I had to hold the power button down to get it to shut down and restart. It happened yesterday again, when I hadn't been near it for awhile, and that time and the time before I had FF up with stuff to look at later so I thought it was going into standby mode or something, except that it happened again about 20 minutes ago while I was using it. No odd noises before the light changes color either. Although, I have heard a couple odd noises that might be coming from the tower in the last little while. It sort of sounds like a phone set to ring on pulse, but it is pretty quite and two quick rings of two pulses about 5 minutes apart. It seems to be fine after restarting.

Preliminary ideas as to what could be causing this? I've done some basic research and have read that it could be the power supply. I will also say that each time it has happened the computer has been on for over 10 hours before hand.

It is a dell (can't mind model # right now) and is running Windows XP home.

Hi,

I recently bought a Lenova 510S Desktop PC and an Asus monitor and everything was working fine. It has windows 10 pre-installed. Having used it for a few months, the desktop tower randomly shuts off power to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but stays on. The Monitor does not turn blue (no HDMI signal) but remains black. Lights on the keyboard and mouse turn off but the tower remains powered.

This is odd and it has happened twice now, almost once fortnightly and I don't know what is causing it. I am new to WIndows 10 and am unable to look for clues or error dumps. There is no error message and I cannot do anything. Pressing the CD drive, the drive functions as it should so there is power there. Trying to switch the usb cables to the other USB ports were of no help as they did not power the hardware.

I end up pressing the power button and forcing a restart. Everything else runs fine.

It is a very compact tower with 64 bit OS, GT530 onboard graphics, and I think a 180W PSU (I think). It has never been opened up before.

Has anyone experienced this or can help pin point the exact cause?

Will any ATX Power Supply fit in the 990 MiniTower?
The system comes with 265 watts but I'd like to install a more powerful supply so I can upgrade the video card to whatever I want.
On NewEgg, the sizes of the various power supplies seem to be slightly different dimensions than the Dell Optiplex 990 supply.
Plus, Dell doesn't leave any margin for error in replacing with the exact same dimensions as the original equipment. They have all this aluminum and such preventing even a few millimeters difference in size with the replacement.
I prefer a Corsair Gold 80 Plus.

A:M70e Tower-memory, graphics & power supply upgrade

If you don't wish to buy memory from Lenovo, both Kingston and Crucial have 'System Specific' memory for your system that are guarranteed to work. Memory timings must be match what the BIOS expects for the system to recognize it, and generic memory often doesn't work.

Use your Hardware Maintenance Manual for instructions on how to upgrade the memory. After making any memory change, run 2 passes of MemTest86 to ensure all is well.    A few older system types (eg. some models of M58), required a BIOS update to support 4 GB modules.   I'm not familiar with the M70, but it's probably similar to the other models.   If you take the cover off and measure the existing supply, then you'll know if it is a ATX or TFX standard. )

The Mini-Tower uses a standar ATX power supply, and the SFF a standard TFX pwer supply. A power connector adapter (ATX to Lenovo) is required for M92 and forward. For the SFF, the maximum aftermarket TFX is 400w, with 350w being more common -- not a huge increase over stock. For the Mini-tower, I have had an 650w aftermarket Corsair in mine (I recommend one that is semi-modular and shorter, as space is limited inside the case.

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX280 mini-tower (smallest one thereis), and the original 160W power supply died a few months ago without warning. I ordered a new power supply, but accidentally ordered the wrong size (210W for one of the larger towers). I used it in the meantime until I could get the proper size (although the 210W supply wouldn’t fit in the mini case – I left it out of the case and ran the wires through the power plug hole). The computer booted up just fine with this 210W power supply. I finally got around to ordering the 160W smaller correct size, but that power supply would not boot up the computer (just got an amber flashing light). Thinking it was just faulty, I sent it back and requested a replacement. The replacement did not work either. I ordered a third replacement, and the third did not work either! So now I am back to using the 210W power supply (No. HP-U2106F3) which does not fit in the computer housing. I know these Dell OptiPlex machines are notorious for having power supply and capacitor issues. But the question is, why will the computer power on using the 210W power supply? I contacted Dell and they were of no help whatsoever. The guy told me that 160W wasn’t enough to power my machine and to order a 210W power supply correctly sized for my chassis. Gee, thanks! First of all, they don’t make 210W that fit in the mini towers, and second of all, why did it used to work just fine??? Oh, and no I have not upgraded anything (i.e., video card, etc.) which... I have a precision tower 5810 with 685W power supply.  In the Tech Specs it says.
Support for two PCI Express® x16 Gen 2 or Gen 3 graphics cards up to 300W (total graphics in two slots with 685W PSU)
So you should be able to run two 150w video cards but 150w video cards all seem to need two 6pin power connecters each for a total of four 6pin power connecters for two cards.  But my 5810 only has two 6pin connecters.  And I can't find anywhere to plug in more.

A:How to run 300w of video cards with precision tower 5810 685W power supply?

150W cards have 1 pci-e connector, 75W comes from the X16 slot and 75W comes from 1 PCI-E connector.

225W  cards need 2 which gives 150W from PCI-E power and 75W from the X16 slots.
You cant use 2X  225W card.

Hi,I have a Lenova 510S Desktop PC (few months old) and an Asus monitor and everything was working fine. It has windows 10 pre-installed. Over the past month, the desktop tower randomly shuts off power to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, but stays on. The Monitor does not turn blue (no HDMI signal) but remains black and powered. Lights on the keyboard and mouse turn off but the tower remains powered. This is odd and it has happened twice now, almost once fortnightly and I don't know what is causing it. I am new to Windows 10 and do not know how to find out more about this. There is no error message and I cannot do anything. Pressing the CD drive, the drive functions as it should so there is power there. Trying to switch the usb cables around to the other USB ports were of no help as they did not power the hardware.I end up pressing the power button and forcing a restart. Everything else runs fine.It is a very compact tower with 64 bit OS, GT530 onboard graphics, and I think a 180W PSU (I think). It has never been opened up before and I cannot tell when it will happen again but this is not normal.Has anyone experienced this or can help pin point the exact cause?

I am trying to add a second display to a Pavilion 510-a010.  New display is on a VGA cable, and there is a splitter, but the new display is not detected.  I have applied the latest HP update for the AMD Radeon video, but it has not enabled the second display as anything but a copy of display #1.  How do I add a second display, or do I have to get another computer?

Does HP have any remote control app which canbe used to control volume etc.. for HP Pavilion 27-a010

A:HP Pavilion 27-a010

If you are talking about using your phone as a remote control, then there are several apps for Android or Apple products that allow you to do this. Just search the app stores for PC and remote... you'll need to install the app on your phone and software on your PC from the app manufacturer's web site. I think Google has a remote desktop app if youhave android.

Ok, I had purchased this computer for a job and was ok for a while now they are saying I need to upgrade the processor. Thats fine no problem there till I started doing research and found out the I can't. I only had this computer for approx 6 months I feel I was not given all info on the system when I bought it. I believed and was told it was new however after digging around the system more it is not. My question is can this system be upgraded with a new motherboard and cpu. This is the only way I can keep my job. I can't afford a new computer. I know the processor can not that is why I am asking about the motherboard in order to do the upgrade. This is the first time I ever came across this situation.

A:upgrade on slimline hp 260-a010

With the processor being non-upgradeable, a new motherboard that fits in the case would not be that difficult.  It isMini ITXDimensions: 17.0x17.0 cm (6.7x6.7 in)Just start shopping for that size motherboard that can use the Memory you have in that unit.  Then also pick an appropriate CPU.  It does not need to be in compliance as a HP replacement as the Windows will not transfer either.  Which means a new Windows install or Linux
