Thunderbird can't check spelling any more.

Q: Thunderbird can't check spelling any more.

I know I'm bothering the devil out of you guys the last few days and I apologize for that but my main computer died a few days ago and I'm having to set up a temporary system to fill the gap.

When I click Send, the spell check box pops up as it always has but every field in it is blank and no misspelled word is highlighted in the body of the mail as usual.

Preferred Solution: Thunderbird can't check spelling any more.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use Windows Spelling and Grammar check & this is what I see.

I typed this in a word doc & Spelling and Grammar: English (United States) popped up telling me that I misspelled a word.

Destination Folder Access Denied, then I have to click Continue.

Spelling and Grammar: English (United States) in windows says the sentence below is correct.
Destination Folder Access Denied, then I has to click Continue.

I don?t remember this problem with Win 98se or Me but noticed it in XP & now Vista.

Is anyone out there having trouble with Windows Spelling and Grammar check?

My problem is:
My spelling checker no longer works. Instead I get a message:
The spelling check is complete. Text set to (no proofing) was skipped. To find (no proofing) text click Edit/Replace click More, click Language, click Format and choose (no proofing).

On following as best I could the above cryptic instructions, I found to my horror that parts of my document had been deleted. I have tried to activate the spelling check through Spelling & Grammar tab on Tools Options but without any success. I have looked at the custom dictionary. It is the same as the one I have used for years without trouble when I was running the predecessor to MS Word 97 SR-1. If I try to edit the Custom.Dic I get a message to set the Automatic Spell Checking check box in Tools Options - but there is no such box.
If nobody can solve this problem, will the followinf work?I have two hard discs C and D. If all else fails, is it safe for me to reinstall the Office 95 version of Word on the D disk. I have Office 98 on the C disk (where I put all my programs).

Hi

I don't know if anyone can help as I can't get my computer to bring up the error message it originally showed! I am very much a beginner, in other words I don't have much of a clue about these things.

My spelling and grammar check has stopped working. First there was an error message but now when I click on button it just says selling and grammar check complete and I know it isn't because there are spelling mistakes.

I have windows XP, this probably isn't enough info? If anyone has any ideas please spell it out simply!

Thanks.

Hello

I use Windows Live Mail for all my e-mail stuff. I need to type mails in 3 languages: Dutch, English and French. I'd like to have spelling check for these 3 languages, however spelling check for French seems to be missing. I went into options and then spelling check. There is a box with languages I can use spelling check on. This includes Dutch, English (UK), English (US), English (Australia) and English (Canada). French is not there. I really need French spelling check. How can I obtain that?
If you need more information, please leave a comment.

Thank you in advance for a response.

A:WLM spelling check language problem

Hi Highdetailz, welcome to 7F!

If I understand you correctly, you don't have French listed in the choice of languages box as shown in this example, correct?

Source Step #4: Windows Live Mail 2011: Add a second language to the Spell checking feature | a Tech-Recipes Tutorial

If so I may have found a way to add it. There are also two other choices you can try.

1. Run a SFC /scannow to repair any corrupt files, then check to see if WLM has the French listing back. If that doesn't work:

2. Repair WLM: In your Start menu search box, type wlarp , and click the application highlighted in the results list. Answer yes to the UAC prompt.

This brings up the dialog window to repair or uninstall. Select Repair all Windows Essentials programs. WLM is part of Windows Essentials so you have to make that choice. When the repair is finished check to see if you have French listed.

   Note
wlarp stands for Windows Live Automatic Repair Program.
If all that doesn't bring France back, the third way is more complicated, from a thread on the MS community Forum, top of page 2:

While checking for misspelled words in a document, you probably click the Ignore Once or Ignore All button a few times. Doing so lets you skip a word that you don?t want to change but that the feature thinks might be misspelled. Spelling and Grammar remembers the words you skip and skips them during subsequent checks. Most of the time, that?s what you?ll want. Occasionally, it?s a problem. You might realize that the word was misspelled and you need to change it. Unfortunately, Spelling and Grammar won?t find ignored words, after the fact.

After I type a new email message in Outlook Express, when I pull down the tools menu, the spelling check option is grayed out, so I am unable to use spelling check. Do I have to buy a spelling check program? My old computer had OE 6.0 with the spelling check in the tools menu. My new computer also is running OE 6.0.

Also, this new computer did not come with Microsoft Word so I installed it from a Microsoft Office 97 disc I have. When I type up a document, I am unable to find a spelling check on any of the pull down menus. There is a "grammer" choice in the tools pull down menu but it does not correct spelling. On the same line as grammer, to the left of it is abc with a checkmark but it doesn't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a box (in WLM 2009) that can be checked called "check spelling in current input language". Is that the one? I'm not sure what it does since my spelling is checked even if that box is unchecked but maybe it refers to the case where multiple languages are installed.

I have received some complaints that the spelling check for Windows 10 does not work within most webforms and/or internal websites. While I am typing this message I can see squigly lines for nearly each word since my native language is Dutch and this message
is in English. This same effect does not work for all forms or fields. Sometimes it will give a squigly line but it won't offer any alternative options. It looks lik the type of field detemines if the spelling check works or not.

In the past we had an add-in for Internet Explorer called Spelling Check which was a lot more reliable. Since it is no longer available we don't know how to offer the same functionality for all forms and websites.
Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to improve this.
The current spelling check built into Windows 10 itself only seems to check certain field types. For example the field I am typing in right now seems to be working just fine, highlighting errors and making suggestions. Other websites however this feature
does not seem to work. It looks like there is a differentiation between field types.
Some of our web applications/sites no longer have a spelling check now which is a hassle for our users. Are there any known restrictions to the field types that are checked?

I have also posted this question in the Windows 10 forum because I am unsure if this should be something posted there since the issue is with the new Windows 10 spelling check however it is relate... Read more

Hi all,

Earlier this year "Check Spelling as you type" in Word 2003 worked fine. Now it does not and the red wavy line does not appear under wrongly spelled words. (unless I click Spelling and Grammar first).

I have tried every suggestion on this web page with no luck.
The registry item named '1' mentioned in the article was missing.

It's a real mystery as the 'check spelling as you type' still works in PowerPoint and also in Windows Live Mail.

I can reactivate 'check spelling as you type' in a document If I choose to run a spell check via the 'Spelling and Grammar' icon on the toolbar or from the 'tools' menu item. Only then does 'check spelling as you type' begin working again for the current document.

I tried a system restore to June which is our earliest restore point for 2014. (I have restore points for 2012 but inexplicably none for 2013. I'd rather avoid going that far back in time)

I re-installed Microsoft Office 2003

any other ideas?

I couldn't find an answer in the search base.

Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Strictly an internet access issue. This is a very randomly generated message, that may pop up at any time. Seems to be a function of Panda's Anti-phishing security and will occur in Opera, Firefox, and Chrome, never use IE so don't know about it. Sometimes, I can go to the previous window (or 2) and everything is fine, advancing back to the original problem window and it will open normally. Sometimes opening another browser will fix the problem. At the bottom of the error message page is a Yahoo search bar. I never use Yahoo, especially since I started getting these messages. I wonder if the problem is related to Yahoo.

http://www.pandadomainadvisor.com/search.php (this is the url displayed when I get the error message). Is there a Panda setting that I can disable or enable to prevent this from happening. The websites are viable and my internet connection is live when I get these messages. I tend to keep several windows open at once and it may infect 1 or 2 or all.

Thanks.

I cannot check my e-mail using IMAP in Thunderbird.

I was able to a few weeks ago without problem. Suddenly, I get the whole "Login to imap.googlemail.com failed" error. I am asked to enter my password, which I do, however Thunderbird thinks the password is incorrect for some reason.

I have attempted to google this error, but nearly every instance involves the @gmail.com domain. However, that's not my domain I'm trying to connect with. I'm trying to connect through [email protected], which is associated with Gmail. I have also checked VT's site on resolving these issues, which tells me to use the proper ports and the proper imap site. However, this still doesn't work.

Neither imap.googlemail.com or imap.gmail.com is working. Every one gets the same "login to server imap.gmail.com / imap.googlemail.com (depending on the IMAP server I am trying to connect with) failed".

I've done everything I can think of to force this client to comply. I've enabled IMAP in VT Gmail. I've also set SSL on.

I'm pretty much stumped. I have been able to connect to Gmail without problem previously, and then all of a sudden one day this doesn't work. It's very frustrating. If anyone has any potential solutions, please let me know.

Edit: I found out I can forward my email, and then receive it on another account. It'll have to do.

Last time I asked a complicated, general question. This one is extremely specific. I hope that will be less annoying.

I recently migrated to Thunderbird from the Outlook Express I had on my 12-year-old computer. Thunderbird definitely does have the correct settings for my account; it successfully checks for and downloads new messages every time I open the program. However, despite being set to check for new messages every 10 minutes, it never does. I can verify this by going to my ISP website and finding emails that have been waiting there for a lot longer than 10 minutes. Even manually clicking Get Messages does no good. But if I close Thunderbird and re-open it, then it does download the waiting messages.

It seems to send messages I write immediately. It's not like it can't send OR receive. It simply won't receive.

In case you doubt I have it set correctly, I have attached a screenshot of the settings page. I don't think it includes any confidential information. Incidentally, the way I am used to taking a screenshot didn't work. I found an article that claimed there are many ways to make a screenshot http://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-take-screenshots-windows-8-81-using-built-tools and none of them worked either -- until I tried the Snipping Tool. What happened to good old fashioned "Print Screen"??? But that would be a different question.

For now -- what on earth can be wrong with Thunderbird that it checks for new email successful... Read more

Hello,

first I'd like to say that english is not my first language so please have understanding for any spelling or grammar errors.

Most of our clients use Thunderbird as a mailclient. We never really had any problems with it and we are very happy Thunderbird users.

The problem is that one of our clients now connects (on a new external domain) to a POP3 server out of our reach. Thunderbird is configured to check for mail every minute, but it doesn't seem to be able to find new ones automatically. When we check for mail manually, it downloads new messages without a problem. Strange thing is that MS Outlook CAN download/find the new mail each minute. And Thunderbird gives no error or anything.

So in short; Thunderbird (2.0+) seems unable to check for new pop mail each minute, while outlook (2007) can.

Is this a known issue? Any help would be very welcome and thanks in advance

Hi all,

I recently got a new laptop that runs Windows 10, and I use Google Chrome as my browser. As with my past laptop (also Windows 10), every time I spelled a word incorrectly, it would be underlined. A right-click on the word would give me a choice of words that would usually include the correct spelling; all I needed to do was click on the correct spelling and the word would be correct. This worked across platforms; my Gmail, obviously, but anywhere else I typed: my work email, here, anytime I type on line. The spelling was working fine until yesterday! I've had this computer about 2 weeks, and everything was normal until yesterday.

On a fresh install of Win 7SP1 64, the WindowsUpdate.log file says the machine downloaded 36 msus for IE spelling in 36 languages. An example file name is:

ie-spelling-en_eb351282502a45726223354a4e92d17807d78bbb.msu

the full url is:

http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/...7807d78bbb.msu

The same msu (same sha1 hashes) can be downloaded as IE-Spelling-en.msu from here:

Code:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40289
Are there KB update codes for those 36 msu's? for example, KB codes that would appear in the systeminfo.exe list? like this:

Code:
Hotfix(s): 222 Hotfix(s) Installed.
[01]: KB2849697
[02]: KB2849696
[03]: KB2841134
[04]: KB2670838
[05]: KB2479943

I am using Firefox and like it a lot, but have a couple questions on spelling. Is there any way to make that little red line under a misspelled word darker or more prominent? I have pretty good eyes but that one is hard to see. Also, it seems when I get going in a paragraph and then go back into earlier text and correct something, it doesn't seem to find any misspelled words after that. So I highlight, uncheck check spelling and check it again, then it finds the words. Kind of an inconvenience...

Do you have this option in Outlook Express Checked.
Launch Outlook Express and navigate to Tools | Options | Spelling tab. Ensure there is a checkmark next to the Always Check Spelling Before Sending option.

Hi!

I've been using Thunderbird 2 portable on my USB-stick for a long time, but now I've downloaded and installed Thunderbird 3 beta 1 (normal installation, not portable). Is it possible to transfer all my email from the portable version to Thunderbird 3?

Thanks.

A:Transfer email from Thunderbird 2 to Thunderbird 3

absolutely. Use mozilla backup 1.4.3 (free)

compact all folders first.

All of a sudden the messages I send from my hotmail account using outlook express are not saved in the sent message folder anymore. In the tools - option - send tab, the "save copy of sent messages in sent items folder " is thicked as it should be if I wanted to save the messages.
Plus when I write a new message, the option to check spelling is in the grey color typical of not active functions and in the options I can't find anything that would able it.
Thanks for any help!

A bit ago, I had a freeze and did a ctrl-alt-del and restart. During the restart, a message appeared that "Dummy Winidows" was not responding and did I want to terminate the program. I did.

The misspelling struck me as strange, so I ran SpyBot and CenturyLink's PC Health checkup. Neither reported a virus, but I remain suspicious. My startup seems very, very slow, particularly the loading of my IP connection.

Can someone enlighten me? IS this a virus, and is there a manual way to remove it if it is?

Thanks, GardenLadyToo

I found the problem. The same thing happens when you remove Windows Media Player as when you remove Cyber-whateveritis player. It also misplaces your CD-ROM player.

Put back Media Player and re-assigned CD-ROM as Drive E. All is well now

I've just had a new PC and upgraded to XP Pro at the same time. When I come to sending a mail my spelling checker is greyed out in Outlook Express.

Checking in the help file it says the spelling checker only works if MS Word, Powerpoint or Excel is installed, I'm running all three but the spelling checker is still greyed out.

Can anyone help or offer any advice please?

Regards....Mike
