I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

WINDOWs XP Pro version 2002 service pack3

this is not a problem more of an irritation. I play solitaire while waiting for things to download/upload, etc. Whenever i start solitaire, it fires up in the wrong place on the screen and i have to shift it where i want it to be (top right-hand corner) and then re-size it (to be slightly bigger).

Firstly, once the solitaire window is in the corner and the size i want it to be, there must be somewhere where this information is registered - where? secondly, how do i stick this into the registry so every time solitaire opens, it is in the corner and the right size. thirdly, if one can do this with solitaire, i assume one can do this with every application's window - is this correct?

Windows XP 32-bit will recognize and use a maximum of about 3.25 GB of RAM.

Windows XP 64-bit will recognize and use more than 4 GB of RAM.

Unless you plan to install it in a computer that has and needs more than 4 GB of RAM, use the 32-bit version.

You may also run into a problem with installing and using certain programs with the 64-bit version.

I recently downloaded some software from Iomega which an e-mail had indicated that I should have. Now, whenever I boot up, I get an annoying window for "Iomega Software Setup", followed by a "Congratulations" window. I can immediatly close these windows, but would like to know how to keep them from popping up.

A:Solved: Annoying start up window

Have you run through the program set-up once already and it still pops up? If that's the case, go to (in Win9x) the folder located somewhere like C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ and if there is something that looks like the set-up thing that keeps running, delete it. (To see if it's the right thing before you delete it, you should be able to double-click the icon, and the one you want to delete will run the set-up wizard you've come to hate.) Be careful not to go deleting the wrong stuff all willy-nilly.

I am at work and my question is for the computer at home. I have reformat my harddrive and try to install win. xp professional on the computer. Turn on the computer and i am in dos mode. I put in the win. xp professional disk in the cd rom to install. The computer then goes installing, it starts by going to the xp setup screen, ask a few questions like Fats 32 and copywrite agreements and such. It would not go into the actual installation of the xp installation program where it would ask for a disk code. After the xp setup program, it then ask to restart my computer, which i did. After the restart it would ask to "press a key for cd-rom boot" and i did, then it would go into the xp setup screen again and the whole xp setup process would starts over again and then it would ask to be reboot again. Now during the beginning of restarting the computer, if i didn't press a key at that point of time when it was asking "press any key to boot from cd-rom", then it would give me this promt "NTLDR is missing press any key to restart". I then would press a key but it would not restart but the same prompt "NTLDR is missing press any key to restart" would appear again. I cannot do anyting at this point and have to mannually turn off the computer. I don't know what to do now?

Please help

A:need help in installing window xp professional

NTLDR is missing press any key to restart, your getting this error because there is a cd in the drive and it's looking for NTLDR file, which appears not to be on it. (strange)

go to www.bootdisk.com and download the six floppies for xp. Put the first one in your puter, and restart, run through all six, and then continue the set up process with the cd.

you said you reformatted the hard drive? I believe you have to set the partition first, then format. XP should do this for you, try the boot disks, and let us know if it works.

Can someone share with me how to customize the START MENU TREE in Windows 7 ?

I'm not talking about simplistic stuff like turning on and off "Recent Documents" / "Pictures" / "Networks" etc. I'm referring to to the listing of programs installed.

In Windows XP you could do this using C:\Documents and Settings\User\Start Menu\Programs.

But in Windows 7 this is either hidden,or, located in some obscure location.

I have Windows XP and I have Office Professional 2003. I downloaded the Trial 2007 Office Pro from Microsoft's website, but after trying decided I really didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Even before I unistalled when ever I opened a 2003 application the Windows installer would pop up. Now that I have uninstalled 2007, my 2003 won't open, it is like it isn't there (although I went to the control panel and it was there). The Windows Installer pops up no matter what I try to do, even logging on to the internet.

I went into the control panel where you can add and remove programs and 2003 is still there. I tried restoring back to a previous date, but that wouldn't work.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Installer to stop popping up, and how can I get the system to recognize my 2003 Office Software?

Do you still have the install disks for 2003?

If so remove 2003 & anything to do with it and 2007 and reinstall from the disk.

A:Window 7 Premium vs Windows 7 Professional

Some searching lead me to Can I downgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Home Premium? - Microsoft Community.

Hello Everyone

I was in a similar situation. I had "Windows 7 Home Prem OA HP" on a HP desktop I bought new and then upgraded the system to Ultimate with an Upgrade key. But now that I bought a refurb desktop with no OS (with a COA for "Windows Vista Business OEMAc") I needed to use that Ultimate license on the "new" refurb desktop. So my "downgrade ultimate to home premium" search brought me here, amongst other places.

I used a registry solution explained here and in several other places, but I made the changes manually and without the use of a popular tool from a website called deviantart. I figured I was better off hacking the puter manually myself. I did however used it this way (notice upper & lower case matching the "Ultimate" entry format):

EditionID "Ultimate" changed to "HomePremium"
ProductName "Windows 7 Ultimate" changed to "Windows 7 HomePremium"

For reference, I also used the following posting on tomshardware (Downgrading Win7 Pro to Home Premium - Downgrade - Windows 7), specially the response by aquasystems. I would've added this reply there but the thread was closed.

Then, I needed to do an "in-place repair upgrade." I tried using the wi... Read more

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop that originally had Vista installed on it, then it was upgraded to Windows 8. One day it would not boot. It would display a message that Windows was preparing to repair itself and then it would quickly flash a message that the PC ran into a problem and needs to reboot. Once it reboots, it would do the same thing again.

I backed up the data from the hard drive to an external using a Linux live CD and I ran some checks on the HDD. So the HDD appears not to be the source of the problem.

At this point I thought the best choice of action would be to install a fresh/clean copy of Windows 8, However, I am still stuck in the same loop. I turn the laptop on with the Window 8 disk inserted and press any key to boot from the DVD drive when prompted. I can hear the DVD drive spin up and then the Windows logo appears and the same message about running into a problem and needing to reboot appears.

I am really stumped by this one. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Thanks for all the help. I want to make my shorcuts start programs and windows (In WIndows Xp Pro SP3) at a certain position and with a certain size.

For instance I want to open Excell at position 20,30 (x,y) with a window size of 750 x 200, or maybe a internet explorer window at position 129, 357 with a window size of 562 x 397.

I gave the odd numbers in the example so that people responding will understand that I want CUSTOM SIZES. I know how to set the shortcuts to start maximized and minimized and also window tiling. That's not what I'm talking about. Does anyone know of shortcut switch that I can use?

For instance in some games if you want to start the game with cheats enabled, you put "-devmode" after the directory path in the "target" box of the shortcut properties.

Is there any other way?

However, when I right-click I do not see that option. Instead I see an option called ?cmd?. When I hold shift key and right click on this option I get an error message. See attached.

I tried to google this error in internet but couldn?t get any clues as to why this happens. Some sites suggested me to delete the "Extended" registry keys in the following nodes:

I tried to delete the ?Extended? key from the above registry nodes and restarted my laptop but didn?t help.

The "Extended" key is for having to press Shift + right click instead of just right click.

Hello to all !

I have a Dell D400 running Windows XP Professional that was recently upgraded to SP3 by the company network. I also installed a software update from Rockwell Automation. Following this the computer is hanging up on the Windows Welcome screen. I re-started in safe mode and see that I am hanging up right after a McAfee driver MFEHIDK.SYS loads. I think I have a registry problem but I can't get booted up, even is Safe Mode from the Dell recovery CD. I removed the hard drive and plugged it into a USB reader on another computer, and I can see the drive. Is there a way to alter the Autoexec.bat or Config.sys to start Windows without loading anything but the minimum?

Try booting with selective startup. Press "F8" when starting computer and select which processes you want to run. If you can boot in to 'safe mode' and disable the Mcafee software (click RUN in start menu, type 'msconfig', go to the 'startup' tab and uncheck all the Mcafee processes. Try booting normally and see how it does.

Hey everyone,
ok so i'm upgrading my computer...i got a PC3200 DDR400 512MB RAM and a p4 2.8ghz..and of course the motherboard for that..

so when i plugged everything in...everything sounded fine..the POST beep code was good..and all that...then after it shows this..chart thing of all the stuff i have in my comp..like everything it "detects" it just hangs.

i can't start windows. once in a while it'll be just a black screen, other times i'll have several different TRAP errors, or it'll just plain restart my computer.

i've tried creating a boot disk, even d/l microsoft's 6 floppy startup disk to try to boot from floppy w/o cd, and of course i've tried to repair windows through my original windows xp cd. however, none of these worked...and it just keeps giving me trap errors. microsoft says if u get a trap error to repair with the cd? but i get trap errors even if i put the cd in..more often if i put the cd in than not.

sometimes the cd will pretend to like...start booting up..but then it'll freeze once the windows setup blue screen comes on~!

uh..ok so someone please help me!?!?!?! thanks~

i have a compaq with windows 2000 professionaln.. the computer was shutting down right after loading windows.. so i started by unplugging things to see if it was any of the attachments... the computer starts up fine and works well as long as the ethernet cable is not attached. as soon as you attach the cable to access the internet the computer automatically shuts down.. ive ran numerous virus scans with AVG and have also ran other clean ups without any problems.. is there anything anyone can suggest that i can do or what the problem may be and how to fix it?!?! thanks

Have you tried the following: -

1. Remove the NIC. Clean the contacts and reinsert it making sure that it is properly seated.

2. Replace the ethernet cable.

3. Use the Windows "Add/Remove Hardware" utility to uninstall the NIC. Restart and then follow the onscreen prompts from the "Found New Hardware" wizard to reinstall the NIC.

Hello everybody. I have a desktop and monitor running Windows XP Professional and recently I've been having troubles with it. When I start up the computer it pops up a black screen with a white underscore flashing and I can't enter anything. It only allows me to go into f2 and f12 to see my BIOS settings but when I repeat f8 to go into safe mode but it just makes a beeping sound and safe mode doesn't pop up. Does anybody know what I should do?

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?
Also, do you have an XP cd?

which 2 AV? why not just uninstall one?

do u see the start bar at the bottom left?

try right clickin the desktop, can you?

if u can right click ur desktop > arrange icons by > show icons on desktop should be checked.

if u cant see the start bar and the right click doesnt work.

try ctr>alt>Delete

look under the process tab do u see a explorer.exe?

if not goto file>newtask"run">browse> goto c:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

and run that if it still doesnt work post

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help before I have to do a fresh install.

I'm running W7 Pro x64 on my laptop and have been since its launch with no issues.

Last night I was working away when I received I notification telling me something had failed to run, I didn't take much notice, clicked OK and continued working. As normal I shutdown the laptop and turned it back on this morning.

The OS seems like its booting as normal but about half way through the startup programs loading I get a message telling me Windows Explorer has stopped working...restart program.

I have no option but to press restart, this starts the same sequence off again and gets to the same point and I get the message again...a never ending loop!

This is the error I recieve which I have had to type in manually as I cannot click on anything, so sorry for any typos.
