firefox plug in container stopped working - error msg??

Q: firefox plug in container stopped working - error msg??

windows says the container for plug ins has stopped working a bunch of times. havent noticed any problems but don't know what that means. when I click search for solutions it does not work. is this something I should care about or just ignore?

Preferred Solution: firefox plug in container stopped working - error msg??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Firefox crashing (plugin container for firefox has stopped working)

Go to Index page ? mozillaZine Forums ; on the right-side of the screen, in the search box for Boards, enter "plugin container crashes" (without the quotation marks) and read some of the threads, which may lead you to the solution.

My quick look at a few of those threads indicated that hardware acceleration may be the culprit; if you need help with that, do another search for that subject.

There was an amusing incident on mozillaZine recently concerning hardware acceleration: One person posted a vituperative message blaming the moderators for frequently suggesting turning off hardware acceleration on the grounds that doing that had never helped a single person.

The very next thread I read was from a person thanking the moderators: He had been told to try turning off hardware acceleration, he did so, and his problem was solved.

I own a relatively old laptop / notebook with on-board graphics ( MEDION MAM2120 / MD97300 ).

It used to work fine with live online video streaming but with the implementation of plug-in containers for all three big web browsers ( Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome ) my CPU ( AMD Turion 64 ML-32 with 1.6 GhZ ) gets pushed to 100% usage which negatively impacts not only on fan noise but also visual experience.

I there a way to switch on the 'plug-in container' functionality in any of those browsers to improve may streaming quality? Does an alternative 'light weight' browser exist which is not as resource hungry and well suited for online streaming? I appreciate any suggestions other than buying a new laptop.

Okay so im pretty sure i have a virus i just do not know how to remove it at all! Theres an application in my task manager called "plug in container (32bit)" that keeps slowing down my PC and running at 100% Cpu.
I googled it and apparently it is linked with firefox however i do not have firefox on my computer. When i opened the folder that it was inside of and attempted to delete everything it said i could not because it was being used by "service Mgr Rollaround".
When i googled "service mgr Rollaround" that's what brought me to this site and now ive confirmed my suspicion that it is infact a virus.
It keeps modifying itself everyday and slowing my pc and i really don't know what to do because its a new PC and i feel like its taking my data or something.
I really am a "pc noob" if you want to call it that, so i really need help quick and im sorry but i do not know the information you need in order to help me remove it. If i need to post any logs or anything of that sort in order for you to be better able to evaluate my situation i am more than happy to do so; you'll just have to treat me like a child when explaining it to me!
Im not super slow when it comes to computers and i do have my whits about me online however since its a relatively new computer i've gone into a bit of a panic now i've found this virus!
Any help ASAP would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hello, I've been having this strange issue with my computer that recently started yesterday. Usually, I can solve these problems myself, but I can't seem to find out what exactly is wrong with my computer. I'm using Windows Vista.

Okay, so here's the problem: Whenever I surf on Firefox I get redirected to an ad page that is totally oblivious to the one I clicked on. Then, I've been constantly receiving a Microsoft Windows message saying, "TCP/IP Ping Command has stopped working" and it gives me the selection of checking online for a solution or closing it. Neither of the options do absolutely anything other than closing it. It'll then reappear in the next five minute interval. At first I thought maybe this could be a Rootkit, so I ran TDSSkiller.exe and came up with nothing. I checked my processes to make sure that there weren't any suspicious processes, coming up with nothing. I used a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware quick scan and came up with nothing. I noticed that my CPU usage was having abnormal spikes to 90-100% even when I wasn't doing anything. So, any idea of what this possibly is?

A:Redirecting in Firefox and "TCP/IP Ping Command has stopped working error message.

Yes, my machine is doing the same thing....anyone?? I tried all the things SonnyW has tried...now my computer is randomly shutting itself off as well as the redirect and TCP/IP error message.

I received a DVD-ROM version of Hoyle Card Games put out by ENCORE. I installed it on my desktop and played the games with no problem. Then I accessed it on my HP 10.1" laptop through my HOME GROUP network. It was working fine - suddenly, I got a flash of a message about the Plugin and the screen went blank. The computer shut down and I am unable to turn it back on - I push the button - the light blinks and goes off. I get nothing. Can't push the F8 or any other button fast enough.
Any ideas???? All help is greatly appreciated. The laptop is running WIN7.

I installed a new DVD Burner OK but things like my Digital Camera, HP Organizer, GPS etc. that connect via their own USB cables have all ceased to operate!
Device manager tells me everything is fine!
Normally when I pug in my Dig Cam, it immediately connects and shows up as a drive on My Computer - not any more. I have tried various USB slots on my PC, but nothing!
My HP PDA also won't connect via Active Sync!
What could have caused all this to go wrong simply by adding a new burner?

I plugged in my IPod, which has worked fine until now, into a USB port. Screen went white then black and computer froze. Turned computer off and back on, everything works fine except all USB ports do not work. I had a wireless mouse in one and the Ipod in another. It would not recognize either, it will charge IPod though. I tried plugging in a printer and it would not work it either. Going to Device Manager it says that the USB's are working normally. I'm trying to get my headphones/speakers working again.

It worked well until a week and when I tried to plug the speakers in yesterday there was no sound (same is true for several headphones...)

I tried to update the driver (realtek), I looked into the configurations, but as my meager knowledge it seems all fine, I tried to follow the instructions from several other forums, but still silence... (the PC speakers do work though).

Then I tried to restore the system, but unfortunately the only restore point it gives me for this months is yesterday afternoon; at that point I had already tired to update the driver, etc. and after restoring it to that point the headphone plug is still not working.

For some reason it doesn't go back to the previous months (the last time I used my headphones was on the 6th of Dec.) - is there any explanation for that, or do I have to access previous restore points via another path?

Please let me know your thoughts!!

Thanks a lot in advance!

A:[SOLVED] Headphone plug stopped working

Hello Regenwurm and welcome to TSF,

It is possible that the headphone jack is physically damaged or not making proper contact. It is quite hard to tell from looking in from the outside.

First thing I would like you to do is try a clean boot.

Here is the Microsoft support article on configuring XP clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state

Once you have performed the clean boot, attempt to use your headphones again.

You say your Google voice plug in won't work and it won't install a new one? Well, you've come to the right place!
The following fix was submitted 6/15/11 by 'eklisiewicz'.
Solved by me
Go to this directory.

D:\Profiles\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Google Talk Plugin

Delete the googletalkplugin_port file if one exists. My system did not have one.

Double-click the googletalkplugin.exe file.

It will recreate the googletalkplugin_port file in this directory.

Go to your Gmail account and test the voice and chat plugin. It should work now.
Thanks for this fix eklisiewicz! I burned many hours trying lots of suggestions that DIDN'T work.

Hello all,

I bought a Memorex 48U (same as Artec) some time ago and it was working fine for about 7-8 months. Suddenly one fine day it stopped working. I get the following error:

TWAIN Error!
Failed to open the TWAIN driver.

I have been searching on the web for a while and have come across a whole bunch of people who have this problem with the same scanner. The fix that some of the forums have posted have not worked for me. One forum claimed that following fix has been recommened by Memorex tech support.
1) Disconnect the usb cable btwn your scanner & PC.
2) uninstall all the software (go to ctl-panel->add/remove programs)
3) in explorer, go to %WINDIR%\twain_32 directory... He had me delete my MEMU48 directory here... if you have a differently branded scanner, you may have a different directory?
4) in explorer, go to %WINDIR%\inf directory -- there are a number of OEM#.INF files here (where # is a number)... go to the highest numbered file, open it with a text editor... if it says MEM48U in there (for my memorex brand), then delete this file AND its associated .PNF file (for example, if you have an OEM4.INF file, you will also have an OEM4.PNF file -- delete them both).
5) Re-install the software from your CD
6) RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. (This is what I did not do the first time. Even tho it does not prompt you to restart, DO IT anyway.).
7) re-attach the scanner with your usb cable.
8) you should get the found new hardware wizar... Read more

I was having problems with too high physical memory usage(highest was 73%) causing my PC to respond slower even during winexplore. I started uninstalling unnecessary programs and disabling unnecessary processes, when I noticed that plugin-container.exe is taking up 23,xxx KB memory while firefox takes up 400,xxxKB. Is this normal? Is there any way I can tone Firefox down to further lessen my PC's physical memory usage? As of now, it's down to 36%.

I usually run either Fraps, Skyrim, or Azureus Vuze while using Firefox. Current active plugins for Firefox are:

If you upgraded your FF you may/may not have problems with it's plugin-container.exe. It apparently causes crashes/lock ups of FF on some systems, slowdowns on others.

I saw some reports associated with this file, which takes up (in some instances) an inordinate amount of RAM, thus causing the browser to lock up.

Some AV/Malware programs are registering it as Malware.

On a personal note, it really does bug me that the file REQUIRES internet access (*and there is no option to bypass or disable it). If you don't allow it, some sites that require flash just won't load.

Aside from that, no problems with the new browser.

For release notes:

How else do you expect it to get content that resides online then? To put it into perspective, when Firefox encounters a plugin required container (object, embed) in the HTML it diverts those off to plugin-container.exe to handle and download the necessary resources it supports. So of course it needs access to the internet. It would be no different denying Firefox internet access.

Recently when I use Firefox to surf on the Internet, I always have like 5-6 tabs opened. After 5-10 minutes, the browser is running very slowly and sometimes at the top bar it says (Not Responding). It is like a performance drop, changing tabs is slow, scrolling down a page is slow. I check the Task Manager it uses like 1907.23 MB of Memory and it shows 99% of Memory used.

I always have to end the Firefox process and open it again and restore my last session. It always use 150-180 MB of Memory at the first minute. But the longer I keep Firefox open, even on Minimize, my computer slows down and again it use 99% of Memory so I have to end process again. This happens over and over again. And when I check my Crash Dumps folder, I saw a lot of plugin-container dump files.

So how do I solve this issue? It's not a big deal though but I want a solution.

EDIT: Firefox is my preferred browser, I don't really like Chrome and not to mention Internet Explorer.

A:Firefox plugin-container

First, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox ie. 38.01
Next, right click on the Title, and select Menu Bar. From the Menu, click on Help->Restart With Add-Ons disabled to see if you experience the same problem.

If the problem is gone then go to Tools->Menu->Add-ons and disable all the add-ons then re-enable one by one until you experience the same problem then you might have a bad add-on.

If the the problem still persist. Tools->Options and create a SYNC account and sign-in. This will save all your Bookmarks, Add-ons etc...
then uninstall Firefox completely.

Next, download and install Firefox again then sign in to SYNC to get back all bookmarks, add-ons etc...

This has been a recurring problem with the 32-bit versions of Firefox that I've used in the past. I've now switched to the current 64-bit version (43.0) only to find that this problem is occurring.
I had been keeping the 32-bit version bug at bay using the user environment variable "MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS" but that no longer works for the 64-bit version. I've gone so far as to add "64" to the variable in several different ways but none of those worked.

Any suggestions on a fix or workaround for this?

Suggest: Clean install flash player.

Flash Player removal tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player...r-windows.html

Make sure you follow all steps including step 3d

%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player

Confirm deletion by attempting to navigate to the above folders once they have been deleted.

Important: Step 4.1
Restart your computer before fresh installing flash player.

Other stuff you can try:

Backup your profile (bookmarks and extensions)

MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird

Uninstall Firefox and delete leftovers:

Include these steps:

To remove other files and folders that may not be removed by the uninstall, you must manually delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations by default:
32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Pess the Windows key +R to open a Run dialog, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and click OK to open the Mozilla folder, then delete the Firefox folder.
Reboot. Clean install Firefox then restore your bookmarks and extensions from the Mozbackup file that you saved.

Good day,

My laptop was working fine yesterday early morning. When I was just surfing the net numerous tabs suddenly opened at the same time. I am using firefox as my default browser, thinking that somehow maybe I had click my mouse but it happened again. I ran my antivirus program avast and a full system scan of malwarebytes, however, the system crashed. I reboot the laptop and again run malwarebytes, a full system scan, which found many malwares which were removed hopefully upon reboot. I run avast which did not find any problem.

Now whenever I open an application usually firefox or microsoft word there would be a delay which was not there before. And after a few minutes, the application will crash telling me that there's an error and needs to be close. The delay is usually greater when I'm using the microsoft word or other applications like notepad, etc. And everytime I do quick scan using malwarebytes an infected file is always seen: "trojan:ransom registry value HKCU\software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\windowslload value:windowslload". The infected file always show up after a quick scan of malwarebytes even if previously scanned I selected the file to be remove after reboot.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I had my PC running over night and when I checked it in the morning, I found neither IE nor FF were running (maybe I closed FF, that's not important). So I tried to launch them, but neither browser started and FF threw the following error: "XULRunner - Couldn't read application.ini".
I cleaned Windows up and restarted, but it didn't help. I found both apps can run when admin rights are used.

Where the problem can lie? Should I try changing some registry values?

It sounds like you may have a corrupted user profile. Try creating a new user and running them from there. Post back if you have any issues with a new user.

A few days ago I attempted to download a file which apparently was a trojan. I've since had issues with the firefox.exe process continuously running and receiving the "Firefox has stopped running" error. My ESET A/V identified "a variant of Win32/Olmarik.RJ trojan" and quarantined it. I've ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.41 multiple times and it has quarantined/deleted the same 7 entries/files (log files available), but I still receive the firefox process error. I changed my default browser to IE8 and the problem has switched to the iexplore.exe process, so this problem is most assuredly a trojan. I need help in removing this one. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1...thanks in advance for your time and help.

After firefox was updated 2-3 weeks ago on my computer, it was never able to connect to the internet. That annoyed me to begin with, I tried messing with the vista firewall, and turning it off/adding firefox to the exemptions, and nothing worked. So I just went ahead and used IE. About a week ago, it stopped connecting also, for no reason. I did a system recovery to before it stopped working, and it worked fine for 3 days, and now it doesnt connect again.

I figure it has something to do wiht the firewall, or something related to that, but I do not know what to do other than to block the firewall which hasnt worked. I know I have internet, AIM and the news/weather sidebars on my computer work fine. Other computers are having no problem on my network, and its the same issue on other wireless networks that I used to be able to connect to fine. As well as this, when I plug in the cable straight to the internet, it does the same thing, so its not the wireless.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, its just getting frustrating not being able to do anything online.

A:FireFox stopped working

You could try uninstalling Firefox and then type %appdata% into the run box(windows key+R)then delete the mozilla folder and reinstall.Just a word of warning the Mozilla folder contains all the passwords addons bookmarks etc so if you tried this you would be left with the basic firefox. So before you try this copy the mozilla folder to a safe place so you can if you wish return it later.

Yesterday I was playing a game (EVE online) and my comp froze, so I shut it off, waited, and turned it back on. I opened the game, and minimized it to get on firefox, but it wouldn't open. I tried again and again and nothing, so I try IE which I never use and I get errors so that won't work either. I can access the internet with the game so I know I have connection, but I can't even open firefox, and ie has issues....
Any help is greatly appreciated

A:Firefox/ie Just Stopped Working

You might want to run a few virus scans and such. Also, try these:1. Boot up in Safe Mode and see if the browsers will load2. If you have the Firefox setup file, reinstall it.3. If you have your os cd, uninstall IE, and then use the cd to reinstall it.

Hi, most times when I close Firefox I get a M/S Windows message saying that Firefox has stopped working and asking me to close the program. I opened Task Manager and in Processes Firefox is still showing until I click 'Close program' even though I have closed the browser. WerFault (whatever that is) is also running until I click 'close program' . Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] 'Firefox has stopped working'

WerFault allows you to report the problem to Microsoft. If you do, you won't get a reply. FF does what you mentioned from time to time, sometimes caused by too many tabs open at closing. Reinstall FF. It won't change any of your settings.

Firefox 3.02 stopped working. I upgraded to 3.03, then tried a clean reinstall, then tried going back to Firefox 2. Tried running Firefox in Safe Mode. Also disabled Norton, and Windows Firewall. Also tried uninstalling Windows SP3. Nothing worked! IE and Outlook Express work fine. Before this happened I uninstalled the free Norton Corporate Edition which came with my new computer and installed my university's Symantec Antivirus I read somewhere that Norton uninstall can cause this problem, but don't know what to do.

All of the sudden Firefox (latest) doesn't play flash videos. I uninstalled Adobe Flash addon and opened up a youtube video, it gives me the "need flash addon" which I downloaded and reinstalled. When I open up firefox and open up a video it doesn't say or display anything and status in lower left is "Done". Uninstalling/Reinstalling Flash and Firefox does nothing. Internet Explorer runs fine without any problems.

OS is Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I have also cleared all cache files, registry entries, installation folders and downloaded new copies of Firefox and Flash, etc...Nothing changes.

Seems like Firefox fails with a different issue every week or so and I have to restore windows to a restore point from the day before and everything is fine.

Anyone else have problems with Firefox on Vista 64?

Hey guys,

So this morning I turned on my PC and found that I couldn't open Firefox. I got an error saying that Firefox has stopped working. So I closed it out, and tried again... Same thing. I tried restarting my computer, still not working. So I thought I'd uninstall it, and reinstall through Internet Explorer. So I uninstalled it, opened up Internet Explorer, and got the same message. I read that I could opened the command prompt and enter in something along the lines of netsh winlock reset.... I don't remember what it was exactly, but there were 2 or 3 commands that various forums suggested. That didn't work. So I contacted Microsoft, and they suggest a system restore. I tried it about 5 times, and it just wouldn't restore. I kept getting another error saying that it was unsuccessful due to an anti-virus program or something. I use Avast, so I opened it up and turned off everything that I could. Tried the system restore again, still didn't work. Found a video on Youtube that suggested I turn off graphic rendering or something like that under the internet options. That didn't work either.

So I'm super pissed about all of this because it was working perfectly fine last night. I'm hoping someone else may have some better suggestions for me.

Thank you

I have gone through the checklist for the malware removal process, however I did not back up my data since I don't have anywhere to back it up to.

The Power people came to our door and said they would be turning off the power for 2 hours. I called up to my wife and said do a shutdown on your laptop (Toshiba) and I shut mine down (HP). After the new polls were installed, the power came back on, I was out fishing, came home, turned on my computer, all was fine, went to browse and it (Firefox latest 3xxx). The netwok is fine, AIM loads, my weatherbugs load and get this, EVEN AOL software/browser and what stumps me most, AOL Desktop, which I thought was really even a more generic IE Browser works. FF and IE7 acts as if their is no internet connection.

Wife's was working fine. Reset Sat Modem, Reset Netgear Router. Tried everything I know, crapped out. RESET ROUTER to generic unsecure mode, no different. Uninstallted Mcaffe, nothing, Turned off Windows Firewall, NOTHING. Both browers act like no internet connection (Even went Cat5 hard wire, no change) I am a hardware guy, certainly not a software guy for 25 years. This one has me stumped. As I said AOL works with its browser, desktop works, all the stuff like AIM (standalone) works, Sidebar internet items work, connection is right, no browers.

Any Ideas, wrong forum? Something makes me believe hardware, so I backed it all up and did a simple restore that does not FORMAT or remove files, nothing, went back to SEP 12th Recovery, no help.I am stumped??

Hi, i have used firefox for about 2weeks and had no problems...i have found it an amazing superior to IE ! however i recently installed a gmail notifier extention from a reliable source which had good review, and since then i have not been able to access gmail in firefox (it opens fine in IE.. )
In attempt to fix the problem i have uninstalled the extention, uninstalled firefox completly, cleaned the registry and reinstalled but to no effect,
has this happened before and does anybody know a solution?
(when attempting to visit gmail it says loading then seems to jus continually refresh the page before loading up !...this cycle is never ending !)

many thanks
