I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Factory Reset a HP 15 Notebook

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting. Almost all threats (if not all) can be eliminated should you have the time, knowledge and persistence to combat it. If you do not want to factory reset your PC but want to attempt to fix it, I may be able to assist you with this. If you prefer recovery/reset, the procedure is called HP Recovery.HP computers which have Windows preinstalled on them (a.k.a. OEM Windows version) have partitions which contain an image of OS, drivers, software and can be helpful in tough moments - to restore your PC to factory default condition. Here is a video example >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6bGr3EgEI0Here are official instructions >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643  Let me know if this works for you. My laptop is infected with a lot of malware, so I figured I'd reset the whole thing by doing a factory reset (also, got the laptop from my dad who has a lot of unessecary things on it). I can't manage to do the factory reset without a Windows 7 disc. When i visit windows' sites i get a message saying i can't download the software because the laptop came with windows pre-installed.I have the lisence key for windows 7 of course. Does anyone know how I can manage to do a factory reset without the disc? I've tried to type F1 while restarting the computer, but all I get is a notification saying that I need the disc.. I'm going crazy!  The same thing happens when I enter the reset menu from the control panel.Would be very happy if someone would be able to help me with this issue.

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

So I have the HP Stream Notebook and it's been working all well and fine. However I was going to give the computer to a friend and wanted to perform a reboot so he can receive the laptop all "new" and clean. Also my microsoft email got hacked and I never was able to recover it so being able to log in to the laptop was kind of a no go. However when I tried to perform a reset and wipe all the files the computer said it was unable to. I can't even see the log in option anymore it just displays HP and a black screen. Only thing I could do is turn it on and press F11 to see the troubleshooting menu, but everytime I try to reset it still won't work, it goes up to 37% and then it says it was unsuccessful with rebooting the laptop. I can't return it since there's no warranty but is there any hope for my laptop? This friend really needed it...

I used f11 hey mines saying it's repairing but just clicking it's been doing it for abt 30 min ,not working for me,

A:Unable to Factory reset HP 2000 Notebook PC

Raines Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! If you're hearing a "clicking" sound and not seeing any progress in the reset, my guess is that you hard drive has died -- as it will produce that sound when the seek process fails repeatedly. Please follow the instructions in this link to test the drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024If that is not possible, as is the case where the BIOS is too old to offer that function, then do the following:1) When rebooting the PC, keep pressing F2 repeatedly. That should eventually bring up a Diagnostics menu.2) Select the option to test the hard drive. If the diagnostics fail, your drive has failed and will need to be replaced. Please post back with the results.Good Luck

And when I try to Refresh the drive after going to the recovery section then it says
""The drive where Windows is installed is locked, unlock the drive and try again"

Any Help please

A:Unable to reset my Satellite notebook to factory settings

> "Unable to reset your PC, The required drive partition is missing"
Obviously the recovery partition containing all the recovery files isn?t available anymore? probably it has been deleted or modified in the past?
One question:
Can you reset the OS back to factory settings using this method?

1) In the settings charm, click "Change PC settings".
2) Click "Update & recovery" under PC settings.
3) Click "Recovery" tab.
4) Click "Get started" under "Remove everything" and reinstall Windows.
5) Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the recovery.

In case this isn?t possible anymore, you will need to perform the recovery procedure using the Recovery medium (USB flash recovery stick or DVD disk)

Did you create such medium in the past?

Hi guys and gals,  My first post on here so please bear with me! I have a T420 with Nvidia discreet graphic card and today I was messing around with BIOS because the laptop stopped switching to Nvidia and would only run the integrated GPU. To cut the long story short I went to Bios and changed the settings to force the laptop to use the NVIDIA card only (OS detection for switchable graphics disabled and Graphics Device set to NVIDIA). I saved the settings using f10, the screen went black and I haven't been able to do anything since then. When I restarted the laptop I could hear it booting into windows but absolutely nothing appears on the screen. I now need to somehow reset BIOS to factory settings without being able to use the screen. I tried disconnecting CMOS battery but this didn't help, in fact I think it made it worse because now the laptop just beeps when I turn it on. Any idea how to  reset it back to factory settings without anything being displayed on the screen? I tried connecting another monitor to VGA port but that didn't help.

A:Hard Bios reset without monitor (T420)

Disconnecting the CMOS battery will revert to BIOS defaults.  (assuming it isn't plugged in and the main battery is also out.)  I always let it sit for 5 seconds and press the power button a couple of times do drain capacitors.  If that didn't work, I would guess that a motherboard problem is what caused your nVIDIA graphics not to work initially.   The beeps could be date and time.  Fn + F7 will switch to an external, if connected.

Because of a problem recently for some reason, alot of my apps were greyed and not working. Despite upgrading to v1903, nothing was repaired or change to the Apps not working.

Despite Reset/Repair in Setting of some 20 Apps, the PC was still not right. During certain operations it would hang for 10/15 seconds.

Carried various checks with Defender and Malwarebytes, nothing found.

So tried "Reset" to take PC back to Factory. After an hour or so, came up as could not carry out the PC.

I have a flashdrive with Mediacreation for 1903 and a Macrium Reflect image.

So although the image was made before the current problem, which would be the option to have a reinstall of Windows. Format the hd and put the image onto the hd or start the image to put it back onto the hd.

But what could be the route of the problem where the Apps failed, still failed despite the upgrade from 1809 to 1903 and why Reset would not go back to factory.

Thanks

I'm hoping for a solution to what has slowly turned into a nightmare, laptop originally came with Windows 7, upgraded to Win 10 online using an outlook.com account as log in verification.

After a 6 week holiday I inadvertently entered the wrong outlook.com password too many times and consequently was locked out of Windows 10. After attempting all recovery options without success I was advised by Microsoft the only option is a factory reset.

Having copies of all files from my hard drive I Googled how to reset Toshiba to factory settings which looked simple enough, holding down Zero while turning on - wait for the beep and follow the instructions, unfortunately after the beep Windows continues to load.

It would appear the factory reset data has been overwritten or is not applicable for Win 10.

Further Googling and the best suggestion I can find is to buy the reset media from Toshiba, unfortunately it seems they only supply that media up to Windows 8.1.

I am at a loss what my next steps should be, it would seem only option is to buy a copy of Win 10 but before I go down that road thought I'd ask if anyone can help?

Thanks in advance

Tony

If everthing is working, then first make the Recovery disk set from the Recovery Manager.  That way if anything goes wrong, it can return the PC to factory settings install.  Once that is done, the entering the factory reset with F11 at start should not cause any trouble, but why would you want to do that if everything is working?

Hi azanene ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

How did you perform the factory reset?
