nVidia 128mb GeForce 6800 Game Freezes

Q: nVidia 128mb GeForce 6800 Game Freezes

I have recently updated my PC.

Pentium D Dual Core 3.4Gig
2 Gig DDRII 533
775 Dual-VSTA motherboard
Omni 500 Watt power supply
AGP 128 nVidia Geforce 6800
2 x IDE hardDrive (80 GIG, 200 GIG)
3 x system fans

I used my AGP nVidia 128 mb GeForce 6800 from my old system hence the need for the motherboard which supports DDRII, dual core and AGP.

Every time a play a game (Dark Messiah of M&M),(Dawn of War, Dark Reign 40000K),and (Neverwinter Nights 2) my pc freezes. It can happen 30 minutes in or 3 mins in. I cannot get out of it except to restart PC. This is sending me crazy. The pc runs fine in windows, it only happens with games.

I have tested my memory with Microscope and found no problem. I have been looking at threads about this and it talks about over heating of the graphics card. I check the temp of card while playing and it seems fine (60). The default clock speeds concern me though 450MHz/2.4GHz. I read somewhere it should be alot lower than this.

Could it be power supply problems. Should I flash the bios of the card. Are there any bios setting to be aware of. Could it be my cheaper motherboard.

I have benchmarked using 3Dmark03 and It handles well (1100- 1300). I have run twice in quick succession and it handled fine.

Please HELP ME.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: nVidia 128mb GeForce 6800 Game Freezes

I'd think a power supply problem. That name "Omni" doesn't ring a bell; I'd guess it is sort of generic.
I'd recommend a PSU (Power Supply Unit) something like this:
Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W power supply
Hoping you get your problem fixed

A:128MB ATI Radeon X1300 vs 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS?

isnt the 8300 newer? Im not very familiar with ATI's system of numbering cards, they like to skip around, like a friend of mine has a 9800 pro or something, yet there are newer cards in the 1k range? I dont get that.

I used to say avoid ATI like the plague, but i feel that they have gotten better. At the same time though i would recommend the 8300, because i know for sure that it supports DX10 (as its an 8 series) but the other one i cant really say no to because i dont know what it is offhand.

First thing is, what is AGP "8x"? I don't get the 8x, or if I even have 8x or whatever it means.. I had a GF4 Ti 4600 but died on me awhile ago so now I'm going to buy this one if it's compatibile with my computer. Thats why I'm here, to get some advice if it is compatibile and how good is it for gaming? I'm not interested in the new games (2004+), so can I run most games under 2004 with this card? Another question, it has another name in the title at the place I'm about to purchase, "PNY Verto," what is this? When I was searching the web, it had a lot of names, such as Diablotek, eVGA, etc.. Is this a problem as is it better or worse then the other names? I have a 930MHz motherboard, 512 MB Ram, Intel P3, Windows XP SP2.. I'm not sure what the name of my motherboard is.. So, am I good to go?

I know that the 6800-Series cards are pretty warm, but it seems a bit (or somewhat) high for an idle temperature. I presume it's in celsius . Make sure the fan is spinning properly and attatched correctly. Open up the side your your case and blow a fan onto the card. I would suggest that you buy something along the lines of this. I say something along the lines of this because I have not personally used a VGA Cooler on anything that I own, but I searched Newegg (great company if you live in the U.S., tell me if you live elsewhere so we at TechSpot can find the correct website for you ), and I searched for the best reviewed cooler, and that came up ! any suggestions on this card or others in its class would be nice
oh ya and what is the difference between a AGP card and a PCI

A:256MB nVidia GeForce 6800

PCI Versus AGP

I don't have the expertise to say if the card is the best bang for the buck but I do know this.

AGP versus PCI: AGP is faster than PCI. BUT.. the 6800 you're looking at is a PCI Express which a whole new ballgame. PCI express is faster than AGP but to date, there are not any real programs out there that would need the extra bandwidth. Here's the kicker.. PCIExpress does not fit in a standard PCI slot so you would to buy a new motherboard also. If you go with the 6800, look for one of the AGP models just recently released.

That being said, I would just go with a 9800 Pro 256MB card myself that would end up costing about $250 less in the long run ($50 cheaper on the card and $200 for a new PCIExpress motherboard). But that's just my opinion.

I've been experiencing frequent and random crashes with my GeForce 6800 GT. The crashes don't seem to have any triggers, they do however only occur during game play. The crashes occur randomly, regardless of what game I'm playing, it could be fifteen minutes into a game or an hour. When the crash occurs the screen will freeze with a random color mosaic pattern. Sometimes the audio may loop, or continue playing. The crash is unrecoverable, and forces me to reboot the computer.

I have tried just about everything I can possibly think of to fix this, but nothing seems to work. I've updated all drivers, tried old drivers, turned FastWrites off in BIOS, ran a memory test, etc. As far as cooling is concerned I don't believe that is the issue as the problem has just recently shown up, and I have made no changes to my cooling layout. The card runs idle at about 60 C to 65 C, and while gaming it can get into the 80's. If any extra info is needed, DXDiag info etc. I'll be more than happy to provide it. I really appreciate any input anybody can give me.

Yesterday my Dell XPS Gen 2 laptop (from back in 2005) started getting some terrible display artifacts. They are there as soon as the computer comes on (at BIOS), but only when the screen is trying to display something (i.e. Not when the screen is on, but nothing to display). There is a variety of different artifacts, and I'm not sure what to call of them. Here are the ones I've noticed
shifting of single-pixel, small, vertical sections (e.g. I can see part of my mouse move on the left side of the screen when the mouse is on the right side)
blinking smiley faces and accented e's
complete disarray of colors
screen blackouts
artifacts accumulate in moving windows

Along with these, I've been getting some BSODs. The stop codes I can recall are 8E, 50, and EA. The BSOD pops up when I try to boot normally, but not when I boot in Safe Mode. The artifacts are still there in safe mode.

I've run a few diagnostics that I know to do, such as Dell's diagnostic utilities (from the F8 or F12 bootup menu) and Memtest86+. Memtest is still running, but I've gotten 5 passes with it. The dell diagnostics give me several errors. I don't know if anyone here knows how the Dell errors translate, but here are ones I've gotten:
5300:0119 - Detected a failure while writing and reading virtual memory. Video mode: 4h (320x200x4). Address B848h, expected to read 0h, but read FFFFFFFFFh instead. I get many many variations of this error.

sorry... failed to note that it was laptop. Must be overtired.

2. You can you boot to safe mode?
If so, this should allow you to function with basic video drivers, and you may not have the artifacting.
Not a solution, but it will allow you to do some work with your system, perhaps to deal with bad drivers... or at least to backup your data.
Try changing resolution, and color settings (display modes) to see if you can "relieve" the issue to do basic work.

3. Check the use of Driver Sweeper.
This will help you to fully eliminate bad graphics drivers if they are at fault.

Perhaps Route44 will notice this thread an offer his thoughts too.
Also there is a video memory stress test. I will see if I can find the link and add it to this post.

Here is Freestone's benchmarking tool
Here is Furmark.
Furmark is recommended by Jonathan King, one of our BSOD team now.

I haven't looked up the specs on your card, but usually they are split in two ie 64 + 64 = 128Meg . Even though it's only one card.
I know my 512Meg Vid card does this. It reports two cards in Device Manager as 256M (even though it's only one card)

I don't know all the ins and outs, but I suppose it's faster doing it this way

A splitter will only clone the monitors and will probably only register the first.
Your 6800 should have dual outputs.
Depending on the connectors and the monitor, you may need a DVI to VGA

.. on an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe, Athlon 64 3400+, 1gb PC3200 RAM.

My system regularly freezes with fastwrites enables, but works fine if I disable it.

So I have a few (well, four) questions:

1) Why is this hapenning? What is it about fastwrites which causes my system to crash?
2) Could I regard one or other bits of my hardware to be "faulty"?
3) Is there any software yet available which will enable me to use fastwrites and have a stable system?
4) Is this a common problem?

A:NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra Fastwrite problems

This is a common problem with some video cards, and not something you should worry about.

This is a compatibility issue with some videocards, and mobo chipsets.

Just leave fastwrites off.

Faswrites are supposed to increase performance, but frequently cause stability issues.

If you do a google search for "fastwrites" you`ll see what I mean.

I need help deciding... I'm either going to get the ASUS Radeon X850XT PE, or 2 ASUS GeForce 6800 Ultras (SLI.) The X850 is around $700, and the 2 Geforces are around $1400. Please help me decide which is better in PERFORMANCE, I am not looking for value.

A:ASUS ATI Radeon X850XT PE VS. nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra SLI

Apples & Oranges

Well the only flaw in your thinking is that a 256MB has a snowball's chance in hell of competing with a 512MB dual video card setup. With SLI using the 6800 Ultra, you are not just doubling the memory, you are effectivly using two 1.1GHz GPUs to reak havok upon any game you could possibly throw at them. I know you said that you are not looking for best "value" but overall system performance. Hands down, the SLI config would be the obvious winner here.

With that said, the X850XT-PE is a smoking fast card. It boasts more features than the 6800 Ultra, and actually has a faster GPU when comparing against only one 6800 Ultra. For $700 you are no doubt gonna be the big boy on the block for quite a while. Most casual gamers are not going to drop that kinda look for a video card, for that matter, many of them may not have even spent that on their computer.

In summation, for raw brute-force power to handle anything you throw at it, the 6800 Ultra/SLI config is clearly the victor here.

Ok, well i bought a e-geforce 4 mx 440 for my computer, installed it and the drivers and software. After that i tried to load Warcraft 3 The frozen throne and it froze within a few minutes. I let the computer sit there for a few more minutes waiting for it to say something, but it did not so i powered down my computer and turned back on. Afteer that i tried counter-strike to see if thats working and to my surprise after about 30 seconds it froze and wouldnt move. i have heard much about this card not working in the same way but the solutions are pretty vague. So if anyone could help me that would be great. My sys. specs are:
compaq presario 5000
20 gig hd
192 mb of RAM
Windows ME edition ( worst OS of all time)
and evga.com e-geforce 4 mx 440 SE
i am in a tight fix and am need of someones help
* I installed the new detonator drivers*
ALSO! for anyone having a problem with their new graphics card not showing much of a difference in games UNINSTALL the
game(s) and install them again this should work.

It depends on which maker, really. But in general, the 6800 is the best of the three listed, followed by the 6600GT, then the 9800XT.

NVIDIA has announced the availability of its new 355.82 GeForce graphics version, which is the Game Ready driver that should provide the best gaming experience for titles such as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Mad Max.
In addition to that, the present release also fixes an issue where Oculus screen stays blank when running directmode.exe -present_test, enables P2P on Intel Z170 platforms, and resolves the drastic tearing spotted on SLI configurations with 4K monitors.

When it comes to Windows 10 systems alone, these devices receive fixes for the wrong refresh rates listed in NVIDIA?s Control Panel (on GTX 980 SLI cards), as well as for the incorrect surround resolutions and their order (spotted with GTX 980 Ti GPUs).

As for supported OSes, the producer has provided several downloadable files compatible with Microsoft?s Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 platforms, for both desktop and notebook configurations. However, bear in mind that XP and Vista operating systems aren?t valid for notebooks.

Unfortunately, there are a few known issues that are to be fixed in future releases, such as stuttering, flickering, or performance drop with Batman: Arkham Knights played on certain SLI systems.

Last but not least, if you intend to apply this version on your computer, simply save and run the appropriate package for your system, make sure your GPU is supported by reading the release notes provided below, and follow all instructions displayed on-screen.

My computer will boot up, and it will then freeze a few seconds or about a minute later. I am on a family member's computer right now. I installed a Nvidia driver and also Valve's program Steam to install Portal. Steam and Portal worked fine. After installing the drivers I needed to restart my computer for them to take effect. I didn't restart in a while but then I had to unplug-replug something and so I had to restart my computer. After restarting, the computer spontaneously froze after startup (and once during startup.) Safe mode did nothing different.

I tried a system restore but it froze in the middle. I tried to uninstall the drivers manually, but when I restarted, the same problem occurred.

I am running Vista Ultimate. I cannot remember the name of my Nvidia graphics card- I can't make it to the place where it gives the name of the card without my computer freezing. I know that it was a GEForce and it also said nForce 400 on the end, I think.

please help... the computer is important to my job.

Hey i have a question regarding mobile graphics card. i was looking at two different laptops <http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172851&st=asus+stylish+laptop&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1218044029604>

and

<http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-studio-14z?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs>

one is equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS and the other with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M.

I found on notebookcheck that the 9400m is ranked higher than the 9300m, but the 9400 is an integrated card, and that the 9300m has dedicated memory! i am confused because i always believed that a dedicated card will be better than integrated so i am very confused!!!

please comment if you can clear this up for me! thanks much

Hi,

I just got a new video card and am having trouble installing it on Windows 98.

My system is a P3 600 with 320 ram. I have a dual boot of Win XP and 98.

Here is what I have done. I went into safe mode(xp) and removed the existing card. Then reboot into safe mode(98) and removed the exisiting card.

I then rebooted into xp and installed the card (autorun from cd). The card install great, works great, no problems!

But I went to do the same thing in 98. the first thing that comes up is 'detected new hardware' - standard pci graphics - vga. Prolem is the card is agp 8x. I tried the autorun from cd and it failed. I tried updating the driver that failed. I also tried removing the standard pci and add new hardware all would let me select the drvier from the cd but would fail on installing it.

so I don't know what to do! Any ideas?

Thanks

Justin

hope that helps.

I read a review, dont remember where, that said the XT cards suck. The XT for GeForce doesnt mean high end like the Radeon XT. You're better off with a regular 5600 or 5600 Ultra.
