Poor sound quality with Beats Bluetooth headphones

Q: Poor sound quality with Beats Bluetooth headphones

Hi,

I have the XPS 8700 and just got a new set of PowerBeats3 headphones. They paired with my desktop but the sound quality is terrible. It's extremely muffled. Sounds just like bad AM radio reception.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The sound quality of the headset depends greatly on how it seals in the ear canal. Try the different ear inserts and see if one allows better sound. As long as you do not have them set as a communications device, they should sound good.
With mine if I put a little downward pressure the seal is better and I hear really good base ..
If you think it might be your computer, try the headset on another system.

I can't get any bass on my audio and my Beats control panel isn't working.  I'm running Windows 8.1.  Is it a driver issue?

Hi @henry8181 , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and having issues with the sound on Windows 8.1. The Microsoft Sound Troubleshooter will go through some settings and will fix it automatically. The first thing to try is this HP support document No Sound from Speakers. It has a number of good troubleshooting steps including using the built-in Windows troubleshooter.Another solution is to uninstall the driver manually then force Windows to reinstall it. Follow the steps below to do that. Open Device Manager and open Sound, video and game controller section.Right click on your audio driver and select Uninstall.Restart the computer. Windows will then force in the driver on startup. I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of HP I would need the model number. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? Please let me know. Thanks.

Hello guys,
I just recently purchased an Acer Aspire X1700, which I now regret. Anyway, I am very disappointed in the sound quality of the system. After toying with the idea of replacing the sound card, I found out that this computer is not really upgradeable, and it looks as though the sound card cannot be replaced in this system, because of it's special configuration. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could make the sound better, if I am not able to change anything out? RIght now all music and video sounds very tinny.

I recently upgraded my SattellitePro 4300 laptop, increasing the ram and HDD. This required a reload of operating system (WIN 2000 Pro) and all drivers and software.
Now the sound coming from the speakers or headphones, no matter what the source (CD's, MP3, or WAV files) sound like an old scratched record, with a "click" every 3 seconds. This is more noticable with loud music, and seems to be an "break" in the sound continuity every 3 seconds, just for a small period, perhaps less than a tenth of a second.
I have done all the obvious things (updated sound drivers, etc.) but still the problem remains. All sound output experiences this problem.

The sound driver is Yamaha DS-XG.

Any suggestions what else I could try?

A:Poor Sound Quality

Well, maybe "fixed" is a little strong.

Not sure what I have done, but it did not include any more drivers, but merely changes to the settings and today, after I powered up this morning, the sounds is working without those annoying "scratched vinyl" simulations.

I'll have to mark this one up as "smoke and mirrors".

Hello @Shelomoh, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! I see that your notebook computer is producing a poor quality sound, and I would be happy to help you!  To improve the quality of sound on your computer, I recommend following this document on No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8). This should help with the playback on your system. In addition, you can also follow @SuperMario1's thread on Troubleshooting Guide: Audio does not Work after a Certain Period of Time. This guide should help with your notebook's audio output in regards to a recent Windows Update. For more assistance, I will need to know: If your computer has completed all of its important Windows Updates. If you have updated your HP drivers using the HP Support Assistant. The format of music files you are playing, and the program you are playing them on.If this is an on-going, or recent issue. If using headphones produces the same poor quality.  Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!Regards

I just bought a Dell 1721 laptop the audio driver is SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC... Im assuming that means that its built into the motherboard... I used to be quite happy with the way everything sounded till I bought some SE210's by Shure... Now it does not sound very good... I have plugged the headphones into my brothers iMac and they sound great... What can I do to make the audio sound better and more alive... It sounds very flat and feels like low on power... At low volume levels there is no bass... I turn up the bass on wmp11 and all it does is almost mute the highs when the bass hits... Leads me to think there is not enough power going to the jack to support both.... I can turn it up quite loud and the bass sounds great if i wanted to go deaf in a week but the rest is still lifeless.... I am hoping there is some settings that need adjusting since i dont think i can install anything internally and dont know of any other fixes... (wanting better graphics also but dont think i can change that)

Yes you are right..its inbuilt into the motherboard. All laptops are like that. You could try and external soundcard or a gadget from Creative using its crystallizer software. Heres the link:

Also recommendations for a good sound card and speakers are welcome. I don't have a "Golden Ear", but I would like it to sound good.

My laptop has excellent quality audio on cd's, streaming videos, games, and everything else EXCEPT DVD's. It used to play the sound normally but suddenly it started to skip, echo and sounds 'tinny'. The video on the DVD's still plays fine, so it is just the audio that seems to be messed up. Like I say, the audio on everything else still works absolutely fine.
I contacted Acer about the problem and they said I should just reset the laptop and start over, but since most of the programs on the laptop were put on at the factory (including windows) if I reset it then I won't have the disks to put all the programs back on. Any help would be much appreciated.

Your notebook supports an Realtek sound chip. Right?
In control panel you can find the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Here you can change the sound effects? you can change the sound properties and can add some deep bass using the equalizer settings.

My audio sounds slightly distorted (especially the high frequencies) while listening to MP3's at a normal listening volume. (and thereís some air noise, only when a song is playing)

A) The Source CD had copy guard protection, which distorts sound quality when transferred to a computer.

B) The songs were recorded at too low of a quality, because the person who made them was frugal with HDD space.

C) The sound card is of poor quality, and isn't "rendering" the sounds correctly.
If "C" is correct as I suspect, what sound card would you recommend?

I listen to Music, and watch DVD's on my system. I'm not really into gamming. I'm looking for high quality, and willing to pay a little more for it.

I would like Dolby 5.1 SS support.

I have heard that Audiogy (SP?) is pretty good.... thereís like 8 different grades of it though, so Iím a bit unsure of which is right for me.

Any help is greatly appreciated as usual.

A:Poor audio quality - Is it the sound card?

You probably can't go wrong with the Audigy cards or any of the middle to top end Sound Blasters. The cheaper SB's give distortions- that you may be experieincing- on some mother boards. I have a little machine in the bed room with one in there and the voices sound like robots many times.

Check out Turtle Beach. They have good cards for a little money and the sound control software is pretty cool. They usually ship with mixers and custom stuff in the software bundle. I have a old Quadzilla 2 in the game machine here and it's still kicking. This one doesn't do surround sound from the CD player but the new ones do. My neighbors can hear Godsmack from across the street when I wind this one up.

Bottom line. Stay with the well known sound guys and you should do ok without having to hire a research team to compare products. Be willing to drop a couple hundred geeta on a card and you'll be in business.

Don't forget to have good speakers.

When I connect my headphones with the audio port on the docking station, the sound quality is poor. But the sound quality from the port on docking station does not improve. I also tried using different headphones (apple earpods) with the docking station but the sound continues to be poor.  Looking forward to a solution to this issue. Lack of audio compatibility will render my docking station only partially useful, as a use my notebook to make a lot of conference calls.

Hi,

But my problem is that the sound is awful, it sounds like tapes in a cassette player when the batteries are running down, with added dropouts and crackles, especially when I minimise the media player when playing audio files, (i've tiried WMP, VLC, Zoom and WinAmp). My soundcard is fine, i've run different ones on the machine and they all sound like this, my amp, cables and speakers are working perfectly too. I never use more than 1.5GB RAM and about 20% of the CPU according to TaskManager.
I think it's a problem with Vista 64 but can't get anywhere with MS, and my usual Google searches on the problem have proved fruitless.

ok i have had this problem before as well, its nothing bad, in fact its something built into vista to stop your speakers blowing, what you need to do is reduce the volume in windows and use the volume on the amplifier or speaker set, heres a demonstration of what i mean....

My laptop's speakers have had poor sound quality for the past several months--fuzzy/static especially when bass sounds are played.  This only happened through the speakers; headphones had fine sound quality.  I had assumed it was a hardware issue.   But I recently thought to change the quality of the sound (sample rate and bit format in the sound properties dialog), and once I changed it the sound was better.  But only for one use.  If a new video is played, the sound gets bad again.  If I go and change the quality again (to anything, it doesn't matter if it's lower or higher quality), then the sound will be good again. And so on.   It says the driver (realtek high def audio ver: 6.0.1.7944) is up to date, so I had it use the older version of the driver (ver: 6.0.1.7564) which gave the same result, and also tried the basic  driver (high def audio device) which produced a tin-like sound and was not very loud.    The speakers worked fine prior to what I assume was a windows 10 update that occured sometime in fall 2016.  I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

So I'm thinking about buying a nice pair of gaming headphones and I was wondering if I would be needing to upgrade my sound card as well (currently my comp just has the stock Realtek integrated sound card on the motherboard). I have a USB audio adapter and I heard that helps with the sound. I was reading some reviews of these headphones and saw something about "impedance" which is why I'm hesitant of buying them.

These are the headphones I'm looking at:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC...ophone/dp/B0012XFDWO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

or

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-7-1-...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1286136330&sr=1-1

Also, if I do end up needing a sound card, I'm not sure I'll have a slot for it because I already used my PC 16 express slot for my video card.

Thanks in advance

A:Integrated sound card + high quality headphones?

gaming headphones are good, but they will only be able to amplify the quality of audio that is produced by your sound card. if you don't have an available PCI or PCIe slot for a sound card adapter, there are other options such as USB (you have this already) and even a dock that fits in your 5.25 drive bays! if you're a gamer (which it sounds like you are) then you will benefit from buying a dedicated sound adapter because not only will it sound better, but you will have access to a bigger variety of software features and options.

When I turn them on, Windows recognizes them and shows that they are connected, but when I play audio, the sound comes out of my desk speakers and not the headphones.

The headphones work correctly with my laptop.

Please advise how to troubleshoot. Thank you.

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Playback section there should be an incon for the headset and selecting that for the default playback device should give you headset sound.

Thanks ... suite210

I've had the XPS 13 for about a week and finally got around to trying it with a new Soundbot bluetooth headset.  I've used the headset on my iphone to great success, and the sound quality is great (for a 15 dollar pair of headphones!).
When I pair it with the XPS 13, the sound quality is awful.  Muffled and just plain bad.
When I connect the XPS 13 to the speakers I've used on my desktop computer for years (via the headphone jack), the sound is fine.
Is there any way to  improve the sound quality through bluetooth, or am I just stuck?  I didn't notice this issue come up when reading reviews.
Thanks.

I can also verify that the sound is terrible and I have a sennheiser momentum wireless!
Dell if you would like to play with the big boys when it comes to design. You actually need to start doing computers that WORKS! Yes I have the latest drivers etc!

Hello,My dell m4600 can't  connect with bluetooth headsets.  I have tried connecting it with two different headsets with no success. Computer pairs with headsets but playing music is impossible.  Playback devices in sound section of control panel are disconnected, trying to connect with them is impossible. When I click on ''play music'' in device and printer section, link doesn't react. I spent entire night updating all drivers for the computer however something is still not alright. After updating everything that was possible the device manager left me with an unknown bluetooth peripheral device. I upgraded drivers from Intel and Broadcomm and latest available version of driver for Dell 350. Hardware ID: points out towards broadcomm however I have no idea what's up. i installed it  3 times by now

Hi Guys,

Happy New Year!

As in the title my Bluetooth headphones pair with my laptop but no sound at all. I tested the headphones with the phone so I know they work. Any ideas?

Thanks

PS Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section.

A:Headphones Bluetooth pairing but no sound

1. Turn on and pair your BT headphones

2. Go to : Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Under Playback > select the bluetooth headphones/device, right-click and set it as the Default Device.

3. Apply > OK

4. Test the audio output

I found this visual guide for you: http://www.windows7hacker.com/index....ith-windows-7/

The sound quality on paired headphones is terrible. There is a background, high pitched whine being transmitted that makes it unbearable to listen.
A wired pair of headphone works fine. The headphones work fine when paired with my Note 4 & Sony TV. A second pair of bluetooth headphones exhibits exactly the same problem, so it is 100% definitely the laptop that is the problem.
Does anybody know how the fix this please?

New HP d6v with Vista 64, new pair of Motorola S305 Bluetooth headphones with microphone.

After hours of struggle, over a week ago, I got them to work for one call on Skype. Since then, nothing - not with Skype or music, videos, nada.

I go into the bluetooth devices menus, the "device is working properly" and the sound check gives the appropriate beeps in each earpiece but nowhere else.

I have tried Windows Media Player, downloaded WinAmp, installed Media Player Classic, tried Nero, have struggled thru associating files... Nada...

Thoughts?

My son was given a laptop for his birthday last year and it has a cracked hinge.
After much research I've learned that this is a very common problem in this laptop. We called customer care center 2 different times and stayed on the phone for at least an hour each time. We were told a box would be sent out for repair. His laptop was still under the 1yr warranty at this time.
Today, we called again to get some answers and they have no record of us calling. (Surprise, surprise!) We still have not received any return box and his warranty has now, of course, expired.
I will never purchase another Dell product again in my life! Also I'll warn everyone I know to stay far away from your products.

A 16 yr old kid has a "new" computer that he uses a stack of books to prop the screen to use his $400 laptop! (because of a cheap screws and plastic casing)
This is unacceptable and shame on you Dell!

A:Poor Quality & Poor Customer Service!

so i was talking to a friend a week ago about tech stuff and he showed me his new 2015 issue Macbook Pro 15. Notwithstanding some awful issues they do have, he was amazed at the sound so I took a test drive.
I agree: the speaker/audio fidelity and quality is superb - the best I have heard on any notebook in the last 6 years or so. I have no idea what magic they did to get the volume, range, separation, etc so well-executed in something that is as thin or thinner than, say, my zenbook ux305 [awful, embarassing audio].

But, apple has experience: anyone listened to the el cheapo first generation iPad Mini ? the audio volume and quality beats every notebook in the class, and is on par with the newish Air 2 [which is better but not by much]

those who had the earlier ['14] models are stunned also. they made huge improvement and really didn't say much about it in the specs etc released.

What Intel/Microsoft notebook of comparable size can match it?
