I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Dell DIMENSION 4600 running Windows XP.

Periodically an alert window pops up with the following message:

Trend Micro PC cillin Internet Security

The following security vulnerabilities were found on this computer.
Risk Potential Threat Related Bulletin
High MS04-027
High MS04-028
High MS04-033
Very MS05-005

Windows updates are designed to patch the operating system to fix known Microsoft security vulnerablilties
I have logged on to Windows update which tells me that there are no urgent updates available for my computer. I tried a search in Windows Update for these bulletins with no result. The bulletins listed have different numbers. I have no idea where this message comes from. Is this some form of virus?

Would appreciate some assistance to determine if there is something serious to be downloaded or something to be removed from my computer.

I have Micro Trend Office Scan installed

the problem is none of the services start when I restart the workstation
it shows as offline in the bottom right toolbar

is there anyway to remove this software, I've tried to uninstall but it asks for a password I've modified the *.ini and changed the password to 70 so I need to enter 1 when it asks for a password but that doesn't work I've also modified the registry to make it no password is needed.

please help, i'm unable to install any other antivirus app. I also tried to manually uninstall the software as stated on other forums and it kinda worked but as soon as I installed the new antivirus my internet stopped working and I had to do a system restore.

I did a trend micro virus scan on my pc(it is the free little client they let you download and scan for free) and it detected nothing. Am I safe or should I go ahead and format and re-install windows 7?

A:Trend Micro Virus Scan

Well we need a little more information.
1.What anti virus programs do you have installed?
2.What problems are you having to make you think you might be infected?
3. Are you looking for programs as a back up scan to be sure you are not infected?

Just ran a 2hr. TM scan that found something, started to clean it (I got distracted and spaced the name, some sort of ad_ware thing) . . . anyway, TM never generated a list and stopped responding after doing about a ten minute clean, so??
I know . . . I should've paid close attention to what TM scan found and surely wish I'd had!
Would someone in the know have a look at my HJT and see if doom is lurking within my PC?
For what it's worth, I did the TM scan because I've been having problems with the aol dialer.

Can't get rid of Trend Micro OfficeScan Client!

This may seem as a minor problem, but... it's quite annoying, not to mention that it takes up a lot of resources.
I want to uninstall Trend Micro Office Scan for a number of reasons:
1) I use AVG instead since it's free and it seems to do an equally good job;
2) it's outdated and completely useless since they want money for updates, basically it's nothing but a extra burden on my windows;
3) it's annoyingly commercial.

My prolem is that it won't uninstall, and I tried all tricks I could think of.
The darn thing is asking for a password, and then refers me to "the administrator for details". Well, excuse me, but I AM the administrator (sort of), since I'm the only person who uses my own, private laptop!
It's very frustrating...

Please help, any suggestions will be appreciated!

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Download the trial version of Ewido Anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. When the trial period expires it becomes freeware with reduced functions but still worth keeping.

Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine"
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close Ewido Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode now. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while Ewido is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:

I have a Win 2000 SP 4 machine with IE 6 SP 1.

I have several problems with my machine, due to which I suspect some malware.

I am facing problems like:

1. When I try to run Add New Hardware from Control Panel, I get several errors like "Windows could not load the installer for XXXX"

2. If I try to run SFC, my machine crashes and shuts down.

3. If I try to insall Update Rollup 1 for Win 2000 SP 4, I get a "The memory could not be read/written" type of error. (By th way, my RAM is OK. I have tested with DocMemory)

So I tried to run Online Virus Scan at this URL: http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp

First I get a dialog box asking Do you want to install and run ...... by Trend Micro Inc.

I click Yes.

Then I get the error:

"The instruction at "0x77fcc2c0" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program"

The actual memory address varies.

Why am I not able to run the virus scan ?

So I tried to do a virus scan with my PC-Cillin Internet Security Program, since I havn't done one for a while, except it crashed in less than one minute. The directory it was currently scanning was the
C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Local Settings\Temp

Now that I'm in this folder, I notice a bunch of "Perflib_Perfdata_***" Where the *** means a string of numbers and letters. These files seem to be the cause of the crash.

Any info on the Temp folder would be greatly appreciated, and any fixes too.

A:Trend Micro Pc-Cillin Virus Scan Crash

You can use the ATF Cleaner to clear out any files in Temp.

These files are generated by processes in the normal course of operation; however, files are orphaned when you do not shut down a computer properly, such as by pressing the power button on a computer. It is also possible that these files can be orphaned while a server is running.

* Click here to download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your desktop.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

Under Main choose: Select All

Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All

Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All

Click the Empty Selected button.

[*]NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

hi all,
as part of my college project i m doing analysis of several security softwares based on certain parameters(right now i am analyzing trend micro internet security 2007). Background scan is one such parameter, which means that when a scan is initiated(preferably from command line), in this mode, the user (who is a novice) is not confronted with the messages from security software (asking what to do) i.e. when the security software detects a virus while scanning it takes the required action without asking the user. i have been searching for a similar feature in Trend Micro Internet Security 2007, but as of now i haven't had much luck. Can you guys please help me with this?
Any information in this regard would be highly appreciated.

thanks in anticipation .....

A:backgoround scan capability in trend micro internet security 2007

Hi There, I'm not sure about Trend's background scanning capabilities, but if you're looking out for areas where products respond automatically instead of alerting & asking the user what to do, I'd check the firewall (install some common and uncommon programs and see if they trigger firewall alerts), as well as sheilds technology (i think this is venus spy trap in trend).

Norton Internet Security 2007 and 2008 (just released) do a very good job of handling threats automatically, w/o requiring user intervention.

Let's see what we can doThe process of cleaning your computer may require temporarily disabliling some security programs. If you are using SpyBot Search and Destroy, please refer to Note 2 at the bottom of this page. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display... Read more

I'd deeply appreciate any help with this problem.
Trend Micro Housecall's "Virus Scan" results: "We have detected 8 infected file(s) with 18 virus(es) on your computer." The "associated virus names" are "HTML_COOLWEB.A"; "JAVA_BYTEVER.A"; "JAVA_BYTEVER.B"; and "JAVA_BYTEVER.C". But, Trend DID NOT delete them. They are STILL in the computer.
So, I disabled programs, system restore and ran Hijack This. This is the log:

A:HJT log after Trend Micro Housecall scan: "18 viruses detected"

Welcome to TSF. That log actually appears clean, but to be sure, let's do a couple things.

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3. Learn how to use it here. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates here. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to System Testing on the menu and choose Full System Scan. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies.

Also........

Download StartDreck http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/StartDreck.zip

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'mark all'

Uncheck the following boxes only:
System/Running Process -> List Modules
System/Drivers -> NT Services
System/Drivers -> NT Kernel- and FS-drivers
Press 'OK'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post the log in this thread.

recently did a clean install of W10. A whole new experience. Advice from a "knowledgable" was to leave all the AVs etc out and get the paid version of Trend Micro which would give me complete cover. I think I should have Ccleaner & Malwarebytes though. Any thoughts on this?

A:Trend Micro only

Unless it is a business computer I see no reason not to use a free AV. Free AVs have a better detection than most paid.

I actually avoid paids AVs, because they include a lot of bloatware, which only slows down the computer.

I even custom install Avast Free in Minimal Protection to avoid any useless stuff.

I have tried to remove the trend micro 2008 that is on my desktop. I am running Vista Home edition.
I tried the normal install/remove and it would not work. It says the install was not successful?
I downloaded the 32 bit diagnostic toolkit and it starts removing and says" Diagnostic tookit has stopped working"
I even tried it in safe mode with networking and I got the same result.
I need to get this off of my computer so that I can put something else on. I even tried to re install it from the cd and had no luck doing that either.

So after my computer got slammed with a virus, I uninstalled Trend Micro PC-cillin 12, because I hadn't gotten any emails or updates from them in about 2 years. Now, I'm getting emails about an upcoming renewal for my product, and that it will renewal AUTOMATICALLY within 5 days. It listed some steps to do in order to cancel the renewal process. One way involved entering an order number, which I didn't have. The second requested the last 5 digits of the credit card on the account, then your email, which I did (Was that smart? I figured it wasn't the whole number, so it wasn't a big deal).Well, it said there was an option to turn off the auto-renewal, but it doesn't exist, and since it's a weekend, I can't call their support line yet. This is driving me crazy. What am I supposed to do? I think I'm going to get charge 50 dollars in about 2 weeks if I can't figure this out.Edit: Moved topic from Breaking Virus & Security News to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I am trying to use up my freebies from various sites and currently I have Trend Titanium IS along with Mamutu on my VM, but since Trend (as far as I know) doesn't have a firewall (only optimizes windows fw) I was wondering if I should use maybe ZA free alongside Titanium?
Any opinions would be great!

A:Trend Micro IS

Nah there is no need for that. If you configure the Windows 7 firewall to full protection Trend will just boost that, but if you think that you should have a go at doing it well then it's up to you.

i recently picked up my grandmothers computer, and she has trend micro antivirus.
she says she has a virus, but shes old, you cant take her word on anything that has to do with technology.

i looked at the computer and she clearly doesnt have a virus, but she is very paranoid. she doesnt want to keep paying trend micro for their antivirus software after i told her about AVG free. the catch is, she doesnt know her trend micro password to change the settings and remove.

is there any way i can get around the password and go straight to removing trend micro all together?

thanks for all the help guys, but dont worry, after a week i found out how to do it from another site.

Hi Everyone,

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 and I have two folders in my Documents and Settings folder that I want to get rid of. One is '.housecall6.6' and is 71.5 MB in size. The other is '.housecall' and is 29.8 MB in size. I know that both of those buggers are associated with Trend Micro's online virus scanner.

I need to know how to un-install those things. Neither one of them is listed in my Control Panel Add\Remove thingy so I cant get rid of them that way, and neither of their folders has an un-installer in its folder.

I know that I could just just delete their folders but I don't think that is the right way to get rid of things like that.

Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Wendy

A:Trend Micro

When you run housecall it creates that folder for itself that can be deleted once you've finished scanning.
It isn't technically a program
