I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone

On a large number of occasions when I click on a link on a website , ie opens a blank page caption.
I found that the only way to get to the link you require is to right click on the mouse and click
on copy link and put that in the browser.

That is not the obvious way it should work.

Have done some research on the net for a solution, but so far I am stuck with the problem.

Any comments very welcome.

MSN.com had been my default internet browser page. However, a website:
http://www.aconfidenceonline.com/ has hijacked it and now my browser automatically opens to this page when I double click on the Explorer icon. Also, there are several icons on the bottom right of the page, claiming that my computer is infected and I need to buy verious anti-virus and anti-spyware software. I recently installed a premium level Norton product which says my computer is secure. It also won't allow these programs to be downloaded.

Hello yall!
So, for the past week, whenever I open a browser, a random site opens up, even though my startup page is set to yahoo.com.
Half the time it's safesurfs searching engine, but sometimes its some kind of a survey or an ad etc.
I remember it all started when I downloaded a sound kit for FL Studio, so i deleted all I could, but obviously it wasn't enough.
What can I do?

Use some free virus scanner, like Eset online scanner, or Kaspersky security scan....

A:internet explorer8

First of all, that stinks. Here is what I would try first:

1. reset the browser by going to "tools" "internet options" "advanced" and "reset."

2. If that does not work, you might try reinstalling IE8.
This can be done by going into the control panel, programs and features, view installed updates.
From here, find Internet Explorer 8 and remove it. After that, restart the machine. IE8 will reinstall
3. If you are STILL having problems after that, try "upgrading" (if you can call it an upgrade) to IE9.
4. I know it may not fix the underlying issue, but if you are not dead-set on internet explorer, may I recommend Chrome? It's wonderful.

While looking in the 'Process Explorer' program from 'System Internals' the other day, I saw that Internet Explorer was an active process - even though I had not opened it nor was it listed on the task bar! Since the numbers were changing in various columns (I neglected to note the column headings), it was obviously actively doing something. My first thought was OMG, a virus or something has control of my computer, so I killed the process. The only thing I noticed that I didn't understand was with the executable file path - which was normal except after the .exe was the text - SCODEF:28196 CREDAT:79873.
I use McAfee and have run Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool, which find nothing. This surely can't be normal, and I'm very worried about someone or something able to control my computer. Has anybody ever heard of something like this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP media edition.

It's possible you're still infected with malware...let's make sure you're not before we go further. Please post a in the Am I infected? What do I do? sub-forum with a description of your problem, the steps taken so far, and a link back to this topic (they will want to know why you suspect malware). Please note: the Malware Response team are always overwhelmed, and it could take a few days to get your first reply. Just be patient and don't "bump" your topic by replying to it, as that will only further delay a response (MRT members are looking for topics with 0 replies...if you reply to your own first, it will appear that you are already receiving help and thus delay receiving actual help). If you still have problems after being declared clean, they'll send you back here.Good luck.

Hello! Yesterday I uninstalled Internet explorer8 not knowing what it would cause. After uninstalling it and restarting my computer I instantly got the error message "The ordinal 685 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll."

My start bar and desktop icons are all gone, I am accessing my files threw task manager.

Here are the things I have done.
Copied iertutil.dll from another computer running the same version of xp and placed it in system32, run
Malwarebytes(licensed) and Avira antivirus (no malware or viruses), run system restore, which did not work, only gave me the error message then closed.

I have tried re-installing IE8, I get the message "setup cannot un-install the version of internet explorer 8 that is currently on your computer. To install a new version (one that still cannot be removed), click okay - It gives me a "check" for downloading files, a "X" for checking my computer for malware, a "X" for downloading IE8, followed by a page that reads "setup could not verify the integrity of the update.inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer."

I have tried the verify that it is indeed running on my computer threw Run,
but I just get the error message and nothing happens.

I can get to add/remove program list, but not control panel itself. IE8 does not appear in add/remove programs. I am hoping I do not have to re-install xp because I do not... Read more

Hey there. Recently on my dads computer, there have been some problems trying to open any internet browser. The only one that responds with anything is Mozilla, which flags an error, saying ''Couldn't load XPCOM". The others are completely unresponsive, not opening or giving errors of any sort.

I've tried several things - it won't let me re/uninstall anything (like the browsers, simply seeming as if I didn't even click it), tried running as admin, and the computer was even restored to a time before the error occurred, to no avail.

The last thing updated was Skype, if that helps. The update and the first time the error started appearing happened to be on the same day (Monday), so I thought that might have something to do with it. Additionally, I can still access Skype and Steam, so the internet seems to be fine. No other computers in the household have the problem.

Any insight on, or fix for the problem would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, and if you need any additional information, go for it.

I have been having a problem recently that is really starting to frustrate me. Originally I could open up internet explorer (IE6) and it would open ok but whenever I tried to open another window, the second window would crash and not respond. I could close that window and the original would still be working ok though. So basically I could only have one internet window open at a time (same problem if I tried using tabs instead of windows). Not a major major problem but annoying and cutting down on my multitasking. Now it has gotten to where I can barely get one window open. If it opens ok, then I can get maybe three pages into it and then it freezes and doesn't respond and I have to close out of it. I had thought that it was a problem with my McAfee as it had expired and I was waiting for my new one in the mail but once I installed the new McAfee and ran a full scan, it is still doing it and nothing came up bad. I tried upgrading to IE7 and the internet wouldn't even load so I had to remove it and go back to IE6. It's not the internet connection because I have another computer running on my home network that is working just fine. I am at wits end here and I am ready to chuck the computer out the door. Everything else is working fine on the computer except for the internet. Any help would be awesome!!!

Hello everyone!

First, I am no expert in computer nor networking. I have been having some issues for a long time but it has been getting pretty bothersome lately. My net used to drop for half a second or become very slow for little period of time (sometimes a couple minutes ranging to half an hour) but now it drops even when opening web pages and such (the page will slowly load, the internet connection will go down for half a second, making skype call drop as well and then come back right after). It has been like that for a couple months at least.

The net is usualy slow and it used to be rather fast, even with the same equipment. Speedtest says the uploading speed is fine but download speed is awful.

I have tried using multiple browsers to see if it was not just one. I currently am using chrome the most but tried with other internet software(Firefox, internet explorer) but the problem remains the same. I also ran most anti virus and anti malware cleaning tools I have (Malware bites, Adw cleaner, Hitman Pro, etc). I though it could of been a virus but then, even after the cleaning tools, the problem was still present.

My internet provider is Comcast (nothing else available around here). About two weeks ago, the net was doing great for about a week and started doing bad again after that. That happens once in a while where the net does well but then goes back to being quite unstable.

The net was fine as I used my cellphone's skype but it still was slow on my computer. ... Read more

About 80% of the time, whenever I go from one page to another page using Internet Explorer 7, the program will become Not Responding for roughly 5-15 seconds, during which time I am unable to switch to other tabs or interact with the program in any way. The "Not Responding" only actually appears in the title bar if I click the page while it is nonresponsive. This problem also appears when using the back and forward buttons, and when clicking a link that navigates to a different part of the same page, such as the Content links at the tops of wikipedia articles. Using Open in New Tab or Open in New Window does not prevent it from happening. If I have a youtube video running in another tab when this problem occurs, the video will stop playing for the duration of the nonresponsive period. The page itself doesn't seem to have any effect on when the problem occurs. It can happen once going to a particular page and then work fine the next time I go to that page.Very rarely (twice, so far), this problem occurs in windows explorer, and once happened in Add&Remove programs when I clicked the "remove" button on a program while cleaning up my computer (The program was Broadcom Management Programs, which was removed without incident).I have had the problem for a very long time now, only recently did it begin to annoy me enough to post this here. It started up somewhere around the time I updated my Spybot Search and Destroy program (after using it for like a year wi... Read more

Senario: Two computers, one with Vista Home Premium, one with Windows 7 Pro. Using IE 9 beta on both machines.

When attempting to print a web page to Lemark Pro 901 IE stops responding and restarts/reopens the current tab. Request does not print and pop-up window states that Internet Explorer has stopped responding. No issues printing from any other applications, Word, Excel, PDF's, etc.

Troubleshooting steps taken thus far:

-Reinstalling the printer software will work until computer is restarted. Issue reappears.
-I have found that if I open IE using the run as administrator option, printing works fine, Indicating that it must be a rights issue within IE. I did elevate rights to the Lexmark folder hoping that would help, but it did not.

I am fairly certain that if I chose to revert back to IE8 most likely the issue would be resolved. One other household computer that has IE8 is not having this printing issue, but I would rather be able to fix the issue and continue using IE9

Any help, ideas will be greatly appreciated.

About every three months my laptop does this. Here are the problems I've noticed:
1. Chrome will not open or take extremely long to load.
2. When I click on firewall it does not respond and Windows explorer has to be restarted.
3. Audio/video is very laggy, but only on certain programs.
4. Desktop lets me click icon once, but then cannot click any icons until I restart explorer.
I have fixed this problem multiple times.
The cause was usually Windows defender needing an update. As soon as I updated it, everything worked normally again.
Another time, the solution was running Hitman Pro or MalwareBytes, which also made it work again.
This time I can't get anything to work.
I have tried:
1. Updating windows defender
2. Updating Java
3. Checking to make sure firewall service was running
4. Running a malware scan using Hitman Pro and MalwareBytes
I know there has to be something else I can do but I'm not sure what to do next.
I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit

I have a website that I made with Front Page 2000.

What I need now is a free website hosting site that supports Front Page extensions.

Also the hosting site must not add add banners to my site/pages. Or at least the banner should be as small as possible at the top of the page.

I have been searching different hosting sites, but most do NOT support Front Page extensions on their servers.:dead:

I need to find a free hosting service that supports FP 2000 extensions.

Any help would be appreciated.

I received a most ridiculous request, and while I don't think this is possible, I thought I would just ask. Someone wants to print a webpage on one piece of paper. The webpage, scaled to fit, prints on about two pieces of paper. In Internet Explorer 11, I can use a custom option to shrink this down to about 30%. It still doesn't fit on one piece of paper. Is there anything else I'm missing?

I have a problem when opening a new tab on iexplorer 11. Once opening a new tab, it shows a blank page but I would like it to open to the new tabs page, the page that shows the ten most commonly used web pages. I go to internet options, click on the tabs button, make the change from blank page to new tabs page, click apply, ok, ok. All works well for a while but it then somehow mysteriously changes back. I can not seem to get the desired change to remain. Any suggestions?

Hey folks, really need some help here.

I was trying to optimize my computer performance so decided to give Advanced System Care a try. Everything was going great. However now I can't connect to the internet! I'm not sure but I THINK it was when I did the option for "Vulnerability Fixes". This option started downloading a bunch of Security Updates for Windows 7 and Microsoft . NET Framework.

After rebooting I've found I can't access the internet. When I diagnose the problem with Windows Network Diagnostics, it says....

" website (Microsoft Corporation) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts"

I've already tried both a rollback through the Advanced Care program and windows itself but it didn't help.

Please help me!

A:website is online but isn't responding Help!!

Can you please attach the two logs in your next reply, if you are still having issues.
Of course you will need to transfer these files from a working machine to the one in question.
Or boot into safe mode with networking and download them there. ( If possible)

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:

Flush DNS
Reset FF proxy Settings
Reset Ie Proxy Settings
Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
List Devices (problems only)

Click Go and post the result.

I was at work today and I was in a hurry. I was on a web page which had a complicated link which I needed to remember so I could log onto that site at home. So instead of copying it, I put my USB in and clicked "Save page as" in my web browser thinking that it would save the web page and its link. But it didn't.

I have the web page in front of me but its the saved version and with a web address which is my USB directory (file:///G:/index.cfm.htm... I can navigate away from the page to links on it but I can't submit the online form I needed to submit.

I have tried a keyword search and phoning colleges to find out the site but I have had no success.

How do I find out the actual website of that saved web page

If anyone can help me solve this, I will be forever in your debt.

Okay, after fighting with this for the last two weeks, I give up. I three computers losing connectivity at seemingly random times. Sometimes it's just one, sometimes all of them, and it happens several times a day with the one I use most. Networking troubleshooter gives me the error in the thread title.

All three are wireless. (I know it's not ideal for testing, but I live in the country and have limited internet options, so there is no way to test a wired connection.)

My phone can connect fine, and never has any problems with the wi-fi.

Even when a pc has trouble connecting, I can still ping sites from both ip and site names. I can also still see the other pcs in the network and share files between them (even if one is offline, and the other can connect)

I'll answer anything else I can. I'm usually pretty decent with everything non-networking. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
