I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. Last night my router automatically reset itself to the factory settings. Is it still secure? How can i create a unique password like i did upon initial set up. Right now it is just Cisco + (last 5 digits of the serial number) and the password is well "password". I figure anyone with any knowledge who was looking for a available wireless network to use could hack into it, or worse yet do something illegal in which case i guess the IP address would show as coming from my home.

It is a linksys E3000

How can i make it secure again?

Thank you

My friend asked me if I could set up his Router so that he could connect wirelessly. No problem, I said.

I ran IPCONFIG /ALL and discovered that the Default Gateway was

Then I hit a brick wall.

No default passwords seemed to work, so I assumed one of his friends had set an Administrator Password.

No problem, I said.

I called Orange (his ISP) and they gave me the Broadband Username and Password.

I then RESET the Router.

Sure enough, there was now no Internet Connection which leads me to believe that the Router had been reset.

BUT!! I STILL cannot login using admin which is what the default password should be according to

Now, 2 thoughts are in my head (The Router was NOT supplied by his ISP btw, nor can he remember which ISP, if any, it was originally supplied by)

1. The default password is different than the default found on that link
2. An Administrator Password change affected earlier in its life has somehow become immune to a Reset using a paperclip!

HELP! lol

I have had to loan him my Netgear DG834G btw (which, btw, set up to the Internet with no problems whatsoever when given the BB UN / PW)

This is a friend's laptop (Sony vaio), windows 7 home premium edition. Apparently, after it developed some issues, a colleague reformatted the drive, and could not reinstall the OS.

I have tried the following:

- Tried to use the two recovery dvds created when the computer was purchased. It does not work. The screen is blank. In safe mode, it goes tries to the recovery mode, but then nothing happens.

- Tried to use the .iso image from Microsoft and burnt it to a dvd. The screen asks for the language and the country etc., then after it says install windows, the screen remains at setting up. Nothing happens.

-Tried to use my windows 7 "update" dvd to start the laptop. Same result as for the .iso image.

Grateful for any help. The laptop has a separate "one touch web access without booting up" key, and that brings the internet up with a "slapshot" browser.

Have an Inspiron 2305 desktop with Windows 7.
Installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview and it caused a bunch of problems, so I decided to revert.
There's no way to simply roll back to Windows 7, unfortunately, so I'm OK with just saving all my files and doing a factory reset.
[It's been a year since I bought it, so I actually like doing that once every year]
However, following the directions from the manual,  booting up and pressing F8 doesn't do anything.
It's like it just doesn't recognize the F8 key.  It does recognize other Funtion keys: F2 (setup) and F12 (advanced).
Not sure how I can factory reset it.  I don't have any system recovery disks.  I can't start Dell Datasafe (doesn't work right for some reason - probably because it's all running on Windows 8).

Any suggestions?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
You can fill out the online form below to request backup disk. I am not familiar with Windows 8 since it is a beta version. It more than likely destroyed the restore partition. You will need to get the disk and then format/reinstall Windows.

I have a Netgear DGN2200v4 router.

Yesterday I had random problems with the Internet connection - not unknown here. My usual practice is to drop the ISP connection and then login again, but that did not work. So switched the router off, waited, then powered it on again. Usually that fixes the problem, but not this time. Repeated that a few times - still no luck.

Eventually I discovered that the router had reset itself to factory defaults! I reloaded configuration details from a backup file and OK after that. BUT....why would it apparently reset itself like that?

I have an Arris Tg862 for my home network, with a single computer attached to it. I wish to reset my wifi's security key for multiple reasons, but I cannot access the router options at because I do not remember the password. After looking online several times, I performed a factory reset on the router, but it seems to no avail, as the wifi still works on my phone and I still cannot use the default password and user on the router. (The factory reset entails holding the reset button pinhole down for ten seconds or so.)

I just want to be able to reset the router to factory settings to access it, but it seems that the reset doesn't work.

My ISP is Time Warner Cable and they are the ones who provided the router.

Hi, i recently purchased a d-link router, so i could have a wireless router. Ive got it up and running, but having some problems with letting others to connect! I know what the problem is, i just dont know how to solve it!
The router is currently connected in port 1, which makes the ip adress messed up, and i can only have one other pc connect to the network, and that computer has to type in my DNS adress, because the router will not accept ip adresses automaticly. However this can be sold if i connect the router in the Wan port. But when i do this i loose my connection, it just get limited connection. and to fix this i have to go into the admin panel, which i cant connect to! Have tried by wireless and with cable, with no luck.

If i reset my router to factory settings, this will be solved. But the router wont reset, ive tried reseting it for 30 secs with power on, but it just restarts and the settings are the same, have also tried this with power off!

What am i doing wrong?

My room mate tried to block certain keywords and websites that I use daily such as Google and reddit as a prank which is why I'm not able to Google this problem. You would think that if you had an ethernet cable hooked from the router to the computer you would be able to access it...

If the Partition for Recovery is missing or damaged you may have to order recovery disc`s  from Toshiba { At a Cost }.
You can see if the Recovery Partiton is actually there ?
Control Panel /   Administrative Tools / ComputerManagement  / Disc Management
If it is , it shoud be about 10 - 20 Gig in size and named Recovery.
As you have already tried from F8 to enter recovery , you may also try from Start / Programs / Toshiba Folder / Recovery / if its listed.
If all else Fails , provided you have a valid Product Key on laptop , you coould download Operating System ISO and burn to disc and Install.
This will not have Drivers or Toshiba Apps , you will have to get them later , if you wish to have them.

Raines Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! If you're hearing a "clicking" sound and not seeing any progress in the reset, my guess is that you hard drive has died -- as it will produce that sound when the seek process fails repeatedly. Please follow the instructions in this link to test the drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024If that is not possible, as is the case where the BIOS is too old to offer that function, then do the following:1) When rebooting the PC, keep pressing F2 repeatedly. That should eventually bring up a Diagnostics menu.2) Select the option to test the hard drive. If the diagnostics fail, your drive has failed and will need to be replaced. Please post back with the results.Good Luck

Hopefully this is the right place for my problem, if not please accept my apologies.

Obviously the recovery partition containing all the recovery files isn?t available anymore? probably it has been deleted or modified in the past?
One question:
Can you reset the OS back to factory settings using this method?

1) In the settings charm, click "Change PC settings".
2) Click "Update & recovery" under PC settings.
3) Click "Recovery" tab.
4) Click "Get started" under "Remove everything" and reinstall Windows.
5) Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the recovery.

In case this isn?t possible anymore, you will need to perform the recovery procedure using the Recovery medium (USB flash recovery stick or DVD disk)

Did you create such medium in the past?

Sounds like your router needs a hard reset, the following has helped me in some cases, but be aware, if these procedures don't work, than your router has gone bye bye, it's junk.

To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:

1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
10) Open your browser and point it to This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you ... Read more

I have a Gateway Z06 laptop with Windows 7. It got some sort of virus that I couldn't remove no matter what I did. I had no other option but to reset the laptop, but when I started the Windows Boot Manager I got messages saying the following programs were corrupted:

winload.exe 0xc0000428
memtest.exe 0xc000000f

I've seen comments saying that I need to insert the Windows 7 CD, but my laptop came with the OS already installed. What can I do?

I did a factory reset on my emachine et1331g and now I can't connect to Internet. Says modem error and it's a wireless connection. Also it's a desktop. Please help if you can

A:Solved: Factory reset. Connect problem

Did this system come with a wireless card or was it added? If it was added, you probably need to install the driver for the card. Post a screenshot of device manager.

In addition when you restored the system, you removed any stored pw. Have you scanned for the wireless network and inputted the correct pw?

I recently had to perform a factory restore on my HP slimline s5212y with windows 7. Before I did this I backed up all the computer files onto an external hard drive. How do I restore the files properly? Can I recreate all users and will the backup files be put where they belong? Any help on this subject is appreciated.

Howdy everyone....I'm working on a Samsung 305e5a laptop and I'm getting severely frustrated, so maybe someone here can help point me towards the tools I need to figure this out.

WIndows won't load. On startup, I get the screen that says a previous run of Windows has failed to load propperly and lets me try to Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally.

If I start Windows normally, I get to the windows logo and it freezes.

If I try to boot into safe mode, it loads up to a certain file then just hangs there.

If I launch the startup repair, I get to a screen with a mouse cursor and pretty blue wall paper, but no repair/recovery utilities ever actually load.

If I use a Windows 7 Repair disc, I get the same thing. The same pretty blue wallpaper but no window full of recovery options.

If I hit F4 on the Samsung splash screen to try to load from the recovery partition, I get a DIFFERENT pretty green wall paper that says "Please wait..." and again, no tools ever load. Ever

If I use a windows 7 installation CD that I have sitting around from another computer, it at least loads to a window where I get the options to install windows or repair windows. If I select repair, the window vanishes and I'm once again left with pretty blue wallpaper and a mouse cursor. No recovery tools or options.

Hidy ho all, I just reset my Lenovo G505s back to its factory default. So far everything up to this point has gone well. Files are in place, most of the programs I needed to use are re-installed. Everything except the fact that now no flash player services are playing through firefox. Quite frankly I've never had this before. When I go to any site (using youtube as an example from here on) I get the black window where flash player should be working. But all it shows is the flash player symbol in the center, and nothing else. And firefox is the only browser that seems to have this problem. When I try to hover over the symbol, nothing. Its just an image. I've tried installing flash, and shockwave player. I have java installed and running. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, do you know how to fix it?

I need to reset xp to factory default AND wipe all personal data and files.

I don't have the manufacturers disk. I have been bitten when I tried to use a retail disk to do a reinstall to be sure of wiping all personal data on a proprietary system (proprietory key and retail disk won't work)
Every thing I could find is based on saving data, and restoring to default.
These (5) are give aways for students who can't afford computers.

A:[SOLVED] Wipe all files/data etc and reset to factory default

what Operating system? You can use dban to wipe the drive, but you will need a valid installation disc to install the new operating system.

Getting an infinite loading sort of error where my comp goes to HP loading screen, blackscreen, turns off, and repeats. Very annoying and nothing I've seen so far is working. I don't have a disk or drive to use to reload Windows with, and I didn't set any system restore points like an idiot, so I'm stuck here. I'm not that great with computers so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I got this today "Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going"

I ran several command prompts including chkdsk,  got  a repair utility to repair registery... etc,  defragmented and everything  I tried every solution found online and  I still  get this error when useing updates.  I even updated my drivers. I tried everything,  s  I even uninstalled my antivirus and tried it again.   I gave up and tried to do a reset  and also tried to whipe everything and do a reset and can not. really odd.

Any insight will be appreciated.
