IE 11 - Web Application on slow network - Is timeout adjustable before "Recover Webpage" pops up?

Q: IE 11 - Web Application on slow network - Is timeout adjustable before "Recover Webpage" pops up?

My company is using a web application in Internet Explorer 11 for our business from many different locations around the country. In some locations with slower network connections, the application naturally takes longer to download the data it
needs.
If the user get impatient and clicks again (which users often do), IE 11 pops up that yellow bar across the bottom that says "AbcServer is not responding". The bar includes a "Recover Webpage" button and an X to just close it.
If the user just waits, the application actually works.
It seems like the user won't get the "not responding" message until about 10 seconds of waiting, and then it happens only if they click somewhere in the IE window again.
Can this timeout value be adjusted? If we wanted to suppress the "not responding / Recover webpage" message for say 30 or 45 seconds, is there an IE configuration option for doing this?
I found an article that suggested changing this registry value: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
( In this subkey, add a ReceiveTimeout DWORD entry that has a value of (<number of seconds>)*1000 )

We tried this suggestion but it did not suppress that "not responding / Recover webpage" yellow bar from popping up after about 10 seconds for an impatient user.

Preferred Solution: IE 11 - Web Application on slow network - Is timeout adjustable before "Recover Webpage" pops up?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Joe,
It's not recommended you change its default value. If you still want to change its default keep-alive timeout value,

try this:
1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2.Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings
3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4.Type KeepAliveTimeout, and then press ENTER.
5.On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6.Type the appropriate time-out value (in milliseconds), and then click OK. For example, to set the time-out value to two minutes, type 120000.
7.Restart Internet Explorer.

Hi I have an Asus G74Sx and here are my specs: Windows 2.6.1.7601 (Service Pack 1) CPU TYPE: Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz CPU SPEED: 2.03 GHz SYSTEM MEMORY: 8.57 GB VIDEO CARD MODEL: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M VIDEO CARD MEMORY: 4.26 GB VIDEO CARD DRIVER: nvd3dum.dll DESKTOP RESOLUTION: 1600x900 HARD DISK SIZE:

Now my problem is whenever I boot up my computer, and it tries to load windows, the screen starts getting crazy green lines (http://imgur.com/gbVtBqP) goes black, and eventually a blue screen pops up (http://imgur.com/O8IMBJg).

Now it should be known, I have just received my computer back from Asus repair where I RMAd it because the motherboard had to be replaced because it was surged and no longer allowing it to charge. We also replaced the hard drive disk. The time between it stopped charging and I sent it and got it back repaired was 28 weeks. I never had this problem prior to the motherboard busting, and have had it since getting it back. When it first happened, I thought it was because since I had gotten it back I had not updated my drivers (all my data had been erased), so I updated to the most recent version, and for the most part the problem was fixed, until all of a sudden it started again.

The problem first started occurring while playing games, the computer would get the green lines above, completely freeze and have to be restarted. Then it started to get the green lines, black out, and come back giving a message saying "the display ... Read more

I'm experiencing BSID issues apparently due to graphic card.

Computer:vaio vgn-fw51mf laptop
system : windows 7 home premium 64 service pack 1.
graphic card:

The issues started with computer bugs when Alt-tabbing, but one day I got a "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout" bluescreen and since then the only way to make the computer run properly is to disable the graphic card driver from the control pannel.

The bluescreen does not allways appear, but the screen frequently goes black just right after the windows screen, or sometimes windows starts but I immediately get continuous ?Display driver stopped responding and has recovered? errors.

Initially I thought that it was a hard drive issue, as I've been running the computer several months with an almost full hard drive, but now that I freed some HD space (205 free GB out of 454 GB) the problem persist.

I tried to unistall my drivers and update them: any results. I hope not have a hardware issue!

Please, any help will be precious!
Thanks in advance

A:"recover webpage" when using IE 11

This message will only occur if IE was forced close or crashes.

If you are closing IE normally and still see the message, then perform a complete reset of IE in the IE options tab.

Make sure to backup your favorites folder. Resetting IE to factory settings should NOT remove the folder, however, a recent bug sometimes allows it to do so.

If I am logging in without setting password, and I am logging in network with "Public" profile, then will any other user, who can see my computer, be able to enter my computer and check the contents on my computer ?

I am connecting to a network and there are 6 other users connected to this network. In the set network location window, if I select the netwoek as "Home", does it mean that other 6 users will not be able to see my computer on network and if I use "Public", then all other six users will be able to see my computer on network ?

Hi guys i have almost exactly the same problem as zeuseng06. My dell studio xps 9000(435t) does not have CPU overclocking options available from the bios. I talked to a dell techie about this, and he said

9:30:21 PM 'name'
It is better you do not do it.
9:30:32 PM 'name'
It might hamper the performance.

Now from what I have heard, overclocking should not hamper performance, unless voltage is increased. I know my computer is good enough already, but I want to overclock the CPU for the fun of it, even for only a couple hours.

Specs:

Studio XPS 9000 (435t)

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Mobo: Intel® X58(Tylersburg)/ ICH10R
Processor: Core i7-920 2.66 Ghz (stock)
Ram: 8 GB DDR3 1066 Mhz
GPU: HD 5870 1GB (not sure of maker) @ 800Mhz GPU clock & 1200 Mhz memory clock
Hard Drive: ST3750528AS (seagate barracuda) 750 GB 7200 RPM
PSU: 475w stock (i have been told by dell this is fine for the 5870, even though the recommended PSU is higher.
CD/DVD: 2 16x--nothing fancy

Love to hear your opinions and options I have for overclocking. Thanks in advance.

well first of all it would not hamper performance but help increase it at the stock spee that 920 cpu is probably bottle necking the 5870 card you have.

Sorry for the convoluted title, but it was the best I could come up with. My company is running IE 6 across the board. Up until Friday the 6th, when getting the "The webpage you are viewing is trying to close this window. Do you want to close this window?" dialogue and clicking Yes or OK ( dont remember how it presents) it would close the window. Now it does not. Clicking just leaves the message active and does nothing. What could have changed this functionality. Not IE patches have been installed since this started happening.

Thanks,

Jason

All of a sudden Internet Explorer 8 and Live Messenger stopped working. I was surfing on some sites which worked okay, but I couldn't open new webpages. Live Messenger worked as normal.
I rebooted the computer to see if that would solve anything. After that, Internet Explorer doesn't work at all, it shows "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" on every webpage I visit. Have searched everywhere and tried a bunch of different tricks to solve this, but I can't make IE8 work again.

I can't start Live Messenger either, it says that the service isn't available, but my girlfriend can log on and it works with the Web Messenger.
The trouble shoot thingie makes an exclamation mark with "Network ports" and says something about faulty proxy- or firewall settings. That can't be true however since I have no proxy and the only firewall I use is Windows own, no difference whether it's activated or not. Repair doesn't do anything either.

What can be the problem?

There's no problems with Firefox and Web Messenger works too. Email is no problem either, so there is no connection problems.

I use Live Messenger 2009 and Windows 7 public beta x32.

Hi folks.  This is after doing an upgrade from Server 2008 to Server 2008 R2 mind you.  Not sure if that matters.

I was having problems with RDPing to my Win7 clients so I checked that remote desktop was enabled.  When doing so I saw that it informed me that I had to allow rdp access in the firewall which I know had been done before.  After looking around I realized that my network profile had been changed to "Public".  I also noticed that my active network shows as "unauthenticated".  What does this mean and how can I fix this?  How did this happen?  Thanks.

How many DCs are there in the domain?
I suggest that you remove the Windows 7 computer from the AD, and exit the Windows 7 computer from domain. Then, re-join the computer to the domain. How does it work now?
If the issue persists, please temporary disable the firewall on both computers. Also, please check if Network Location Awareness service is enabled on the server and Windows 7 computers.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Currently, the wireless network I'm trying to connect to is a BTHomeHub with "shared" "WEP" settings. What do my computer settings need to be for this?

Hopefully someone can help, thanks :)

Allright, I'll try to lay this out as intelligibly as possible. I've got a 2 year old desktop and a brand new laptop, both of which are using the retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium with all available updates installed. The laptop has internal wireless.  The desktop connects thru a USB wireless adapter.  They connect to my home network, "meepmeep". When I attempt to set up a homegroup on either computer, the other computer doesn't recognize that there is a homegroup on the network.  Additionally, the drives I have set as shared on the desktop are not visible under network places.  Both are connected to "meepmeep" as a home network with full connectivity, network discovery is on, sharing is enabled, and drives on the desktop are set as shared.  Both run Windows Firewall (but no other firewalls).  The router is a Belkin Wireless G router.  I have already run the Win7 troubleshooters with no helpful resolution. I have checked and doublechecked that network discovery is on, sharing is enabled, and that the workgroup is set up correctly.  What steps should I try now? Thanks in advance. UPDATE: Apparently, according to my network adapter status, I have no network access under IPv6 connectivity.  I have internet access under IPv4 connectivity. I have also tried to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on IPv4 with no change either.  The problem persists whether or not windows firewall is on.  I do not use any other firewall programs.

A:Cannot "see" other computers on home network as network places, and one computer can't "see" the homegroup set up by the other

Hi,

Here are some suggestions you can try:

1. Temporarily turn off firewall on each machine.

2. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine.

a. Click Start and open Control Panel.
b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings".
c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options:

"Turn on Network Discovery",
"Turn on file and printer sharing",
"Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders",
"Turn off password protected sharing"

3. Enable IPv6 connectivity

a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter".
b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".
c. Select the "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" options and click OK.

4. Access the target computer via UNC name. Write down the computer name for the laptop. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\laptop computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the laptop machine now?

Thanks,
Novak

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
Notes....
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!

Today at some point all this "Antivirus Software" started popping up telling me how my computer was terribly infected and I need to downloaded their software to get rid of it etc. Well I never had that software so I knew something was wrong. Now I keep getting these "Antivirus software alert" popups that say INFILTRATION ALERT - Your computer is being attacked by an internet virus etc etc and gives details and asks if I want to block this attack. But mainly popups come up every 30 seconds or so saying, "Application cannot be executed. The file wmiadap.exe is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" I noticed the file changes. Sometimes rundll32.exe or wuauclt.exe. I ran SuperAntiSpyware before I found here because it was the only thing suggested that I could find. I only got it to work in the short window that I had when I would restart my computer, then could download the file quickly, then I had to restart again and start the scan because after about 2 minutes, everything on my computer is worthless. Can't open any files, downloads, anything. So I'm typing this through a sea of popups and Security Warning windows and past porn popups. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Dear Forum,

I downloaded a number of images in the Pictures section of File Explorer, unaware they were simultaneously being downloaded to the Photos section as well. I chose delete all the pictures in the Picture section, but the same picture remain in the Photo section of the Start menu. So, I am trying to delete them all there as well.

Two questions:

1.) How do I ensure that, in the future, things I choose to download-like these images-don't wind up in my desktop in more than one place at a time?

2.) When I went to the Photos section, I was able to select individual images and delete them, but I can't seem to find a "Select All" option in the Photos app so I can get rid of all of them at once. Too many to do, individually. On the left side I see option in a column like, Unpin from Start, Resize >, Turn Live Tiles On, and Pin to Task Bar. On the right side across the bar, are icons for: Refresh, Select, and See More. I've tried them all, but I can't find anything like a "Select All" option. When I hit the Select button, little squares appear on the upper right hand corner of each photograph, but I still need to insert a check for each image, individually. Can't seem to check them all at once. So, what do I do here, also?

Hi there.

I am looking for some software to impose time limit restriction for logons (with more flexibility than the built in parental controls) and also time limits for running programs (e.g. 2 hours for program X, an hour for program Y, no limit for program Z, etc). It would be nice if it has remote management through a web interface, but that is not essential. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations?

I found Romaco Timeout, which looks like it would at least do what is needed for logons (and maybe programs, too), but this has been discontinued. It doesn't matter if it's paid or free, just something that is maintained and compatible with Windows 7 64 bit.

I've seen TimesUpKidz, which seems to be good but just does logon limits (as far as I can tell) rather than programs as well.

I know it sounds quite unkind, but my stepdaughter can end up spending all day just playing games and watching videos on YouTube (and similar sites). Her mother wants to put some limits in place, which we have already done at router level for Internet access. We don't want to have to keep continually spend our time "policing" her, but rather she has predefined time limits (which has worked well with her Internet time) and give her responsibility for using her time.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Daznov

I have just installed 7600.16385 and have two problems: 1) a two-minute timeout while the "Starting Windows" screen is displayed while booting, and 2) CD/DVD drive does not show up in Device Manager.

System configuration in tech specs below.

I saw the same problem on both RC1 and 7264.

While booting, the system stalls at "Starting Windows" for 2+ minutes. This error message is in the event log:

This error, "the semaphore timeout period has expired" keeps popping up when I transfer files over a network. They'll go for about half, and then this error pops up and it's over.

How do I fix that?

A:Vista: "The Semaphore Timeout Period Has Expired"

Is this a Linksys Router?

Wired or WIFI?

Are you using an Internet Security Suite or ZoneAlarm?
This may also be thr problem....
This can happen when the total path length of the source file
and the total path length of the destination file are greater than a given
value, 128 I believe. When this occures in windows, it results in a Path

Hi all,

So my monitor randomly blacks out during gameplay, this issue has occured while I've been playing Minecraft and League of Legends. However, it is yet to hinder me while I play Battlefield or Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Simply put, it's just damn strange.

I recently upgraded to an MSI mainboard and now I actually get an error message.

MSI BIOS report: "HyperTransport Sync Flood Error"
Event Viewer report: "HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error
Component: AMD Northbridge
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error
Processor ID: 0"

The problem only persists while the Radeon HD 6770 is installed but not while the GeForce 9500GT is installed.

Hyper Transport is processor technology (as far as I'm aware). So I'm left confused (again), I'd really like to know what my card is doing to cause such a stir. Or is it totally down to the processor? Any thoughts...

If any information is needed, ask away

I understand that maybe a couple of you read up on my previous and unresolved 'BSOD problem' but since I'm actually getting an error, I thought I'd put it forward and see of I get any joy out of this.

A:Solved: "HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error"

I've finally figured out the solution to this god damned problem. I can't believe I didn't try this in the first place.. So a big *facepalm* for me.

If anyone else is having a similar problem regarding the HyperTransport, increase the voltage to it to around 1.3V if this is your default and you have a decent PSU, you could try boosting it a little more.

I hope this does help someone as I almost had my hair out with it.

Firstly, i was on problem where my monitor stopped to turn off in 1 minute (Im using auto turn off monitor). I tried to figure out what the problem is. Then i tried the settings on command prompt. I used "powercfg.exe /?" to see the list of available commands and i modified value of "powercfg-change-monitor-timeout-ac" into 0.1

And, it doesnt work. My monitor still wont shut. Next, i reboot my computer and after that, i waited for 1 min on my desktop and monitor finally turned off.

lol. So the problem is because i havent reboot my computer yet.

So my question is, what is the default value of that setting (powercfg-change-monitor-timeout-ac) and what is the function of that command? I need to revert it back to default because i have screw it up.

Thanks.

I have Windows 7 and a Motorola SB5101 Modem. My problem is that I'm getting a consistent "connection timed out" error on a specific website and no other site seems to be affected by it on three different browsers. The only thing I can figure is something having to do with a brief power outage that happened last night. I have tried disabling all my AV/Firewall programs, resetting the modem, trying to open port 443 (the port mentioned in the error message), system restore a couple days back and safe mode with networking, all to no avail.

Hello,

I have an Asus Netbook 1005P, running Windows 7, SP1, with Internet Explorer 11.

I am often but not always, experiencing the following issue:

When I attempt to connect to Wifi at a café, the "Wireless Network Connection" for the Network shows "Connected", yet there is no Internet access. Placing the pointer over the Connection icon in the Notification Area displays:

"Unidentified Network No Internet Access".
(The network in question always has an SSID shown in the Wireless Network Connection list.)

This issue occurs whether I am running only the Windows firewall, or am only running the firewall that I prefer which is Comodo.

For antivirus I have Avast Pro (with its "web shield" currently disabled) and so far as this issue is concerned it makes no difference whether this Avast component is enabled or disabled, or whether I disable all Avast Shields.

When this issue occurs, there are often other customers in the café connected to the café wifi and also using the Internet.

I have to ask the café to reset, or turn off and then turn back on, their router, yet other customers do not have to do this to get Internet connection!

This is the issue at whatever café, to whose Wifi I attempt to connect.

Please help with a solution to this issue.

I have Comcast cable internet in Atlanta and use a Motorola SB6121 modem and a Linksys wireless router. The wireless network has been up and running for over a year and I have never had any problems with it and I have never made any changes to it after the initial setup. I connect to the wireless network using two smart phones and an Apple laptop. I live in an apartment so the signal strength is always high and I am never more than one room away from the wireless router.

It was working fine one night like always and then in the morning I was unable to connect to the wireless network. I can still access the internet via wired ethernet cable so I know the internet is online and it is downloading at full speed. I can access the internet via wired connection directly from the modem to the computer. I can also access the internet via wired connection from the modem to the router to the computer. Comcast shows no problems with the connection on their end.

I have purchased all new ethernet cables so I know the cables aren't the problem so I figured the wireless router might have a problem. I bought a new wireless router (Apple Airport Express) and created a new wireless network. I can see the network name is available and it has full signal strength with WPA2 encryption just like it had always been with the old router.

When I try to connect from my phone or laptop it will say "Unable to obtain IP address" and "Network disabled because the internet connection i... Read more

if the router is working with a cable connection, then its unlikely to be the modem , unless thats also a router and you are using it for DHCP

you say the modem is connected by cable to the router
and any device connected to the router by cable works perfectly - is that correct

on the old router - have you removed the wireless security and see if you can connect ?

carried out a full power cycle - see below

also it would be worth making a note of the router configuration and do a factory reset on the router and re setup and try again

with a PC connected by a cable direct to the modem can we see an ipconfig /all
now do a power cycle and connect the router

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hello all, I've been pulling my hair out for two days about my wireless connectivity issues.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro, SP1 (32 bit). I've got a custom built machine with a Realtek 8185 Extensible 802.11 b/g wireless device. I've got a wireless networking modem through Centurylink, an Actiontec C1000A.

Previously at my old place, I had cable internet through a modem and used a router to connect my PC to the wi-fi. Never really had too many problems.

Now, I've got this new setup with a DSL networking modem and I've got problems galore.

The most common issue is that the PC connects, but it's "Limited Access" and it usually shows "unidentified network" with the public network icon. It also says No internet access. And I can't get online. I can't even see the modem. I've called tech support numerous times and we've tried tons of things. On a few occasions, we've managed to get the thing online. Twice it was the built-in WPS on the modem that got it connected. Once it was disabling and re-enabling the wireless adapter on my PC.

But every time I was able to get online, my speeds are terrible (1 mbps or less, and this is a 40 meg connection). And if something causes my PC to lose wi-fi, like a restart or something, I can't get connected again. Very inconsistent, and always at super low speeds.

I officially have no idea what to do and have exhausted numerous troubleshooting avenues. Here's a few things also that would help rule out certain caus... Read more

Are you sure that the modem is not one of those modem/routers combo units?

I believe the Actiontec is a combo unit... if you plugged your old router into this unit you need to plug from the LAN port on the Actiontec into the LAN port on your router "not WAN port", you will also need to turn off DHCP on your router and assign it an IP, usually in the range of 192.168.x.x depending on the default gateway and IP range of the Actiontec.

I'm just assuming that you plugged in your old router in or you wouldn't be having so many problems?

It would be helpful if I could see a screen shot of the ipconfig/all.

Hello all,

Frustrating problem: All Office 2010 apps require a 45 second delay to produce an "open" or "save as" dialog box when the computer is connected to a LAN (wireless or wired, domain or workgroup). When the computer is NOT connected to a LAN (wireless or wired, domain or workgroup), then Office 2010 "open" or "save as" dialog boxes open normally (and quickly).

I suspect a network polling function internal to MS Office is at fault.

This is NOT the infamous mapped network drive problem associated with Office 2007/2010. There are no mapped drives (nor have there ever been) on the PC, although there might exist a related solution. Additionally, there is no 45 second delay when opening a file by double-clicking on the file itself which will launch the application.

Other information:

1. PC runs Windows 7 Pro 32 bit - PC is a relatively new Lenovo T400 laptop, all updates from Lenovo and MS installed, running clean and nicely otherwise, no spyware, no viruses, no previous software or hardware issues requiring assistance. Event log is clean.

2. Absolutely fresh installation of Office 2010 Pro Plus (MS Action Pack)

3. Running Office apps in safe mode does not alter problem behavior (ie, "windword.exe /safe" or use CTRL key and double-click to launch app)

4. Running Windows 7 in safe mode with networking and then subsequently testing Office apps is not possible: "license not able to validate" issue. Thi... Read more

Hi,

I ran the trial version of "Recover My Files v4.2.4" which found 22598 files on my hard drive supposedly deleted.

I want to Recover all of these files so that I can Shred them properly.

When I recover does anyone know how to recover to a directory I chose, as i do not want the files recovering to their original location?

I had a look through the "Options" menu's but could not see anything obvious, like

Recover files to: A) Original location B) Select Directory_________, etc etc.

Appreciated, S.

A:"Recover My Files" then "Shred" ...

If you are only interested in making sure that previously deleted files can not be recovered, there are program available, like this one, that may better suit your needs. Using a recovery program to save the recovered files to a new location may still leave some of the files as-is at their original location.

This is a question for information about why my networking problem finally was resolved.
I have four PC?s on my network; one Windows 7 and three Windows XP. The Windows 7 PC always sees all three of the other computers. However the Windows XP computers sometimes don?t see the other XP computers when I press ?My Network Places.? Quite by accident I discovered that if I press ?View Workgroup Computers? then ALL the other PC?s in the network DO show up. Furthermore, if I click through "View Workgroup Computers" and access/edit a file on one of the other computers, then this computer will ALSO show up in ?My Network Places.? This behavior seems to be quite consistent and works every time I have tried it. Apparently, this is a workaround to the long vexing problem of why my networked PC?s sometimes don?t show up under ?My Network Places.?

My question: why does ?View Workgroup Computers? apparently always show all the networked PC?s, when ?My Network Places? does so only intermittently or sometimes not at all?

Thanks for any response.

G'day all,

I am hoping someone may be able to tell me why my local folders appear under "The Internet" on one of our work computers rather than under "Local Network". We have four machines, 3 running XP Home and one running XP Pro. The front machine has XP Home on it and I cannot open any of the shared folders for this machine on any of the other three machines even though they all have the same workgroup name.

They are all connected via CAT5 cable and we have a Netcomm NB5 ADSL2 modem/router, a Netcomm V300 Telephone Adapter(VOIP)/modem and an 8 port switch in the boss's office. And the front computer's folder/s and drives that I have chosen to be shared are listed under "The Internet". Does anyone know why this is and how I would go about correcting it?

Thankyou for your help and time,

Aaron
