Windows Upgrade errors on compliance check

Q: Windows Upgrade errors on compliance check

I have windows 7 enterprise x64 installed on my machine. I've been having troubles for a while. Many updates don't install, and device drivers won't install when a new device is plugged in (extremely annoying). I thought that I could do an in-place upgrade install and possibly fix the problem, but I'm getting the following error message (on both an attempt to upgrade back to win 7 enterprise and also to win 8 enterprise):

"An error prevented a required compliance check from completing. Cancel the installation and try upgrading again."

I've wasted hours and hours on this. Microsoft wants $300 to help me, so I'm hoping that someone here can help me. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Where are the log files for this.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

If all of your hardware is fine I would suggest doing a full system image to an external drive and doing a clean install of Win 7 or 8.

A:How to check Windows XP Professional upgrade for errors?

What kind of errors are you looking for?

You could check the event log, I suppose.

I think you can get to this by right clicking My Computer > Manage > Even Viewer.

I'm trying to repair install Windows 7 but every time I'm getting the error "An error prevented a required compliance check from completing". I'm dual booting it with Ubuntu 14.04-lts and sfc /readonly gave the following output (greped the line with [SR] in it). There are many badblocks (like 70 or more) in my 500GB hard disk, but I checked for it (using chkdsk) few weeks ago. Please help.

A:An error prevented a required compliance check from completing

The hard drive is prime suspect. Run the maker's HD Diagnostic CD scan followed by another full Disk Check. If either fail again then I'd replace the HD because you can never trust one after it has failed both tests. I would even replace it if it failed Disk Check with that many errors. You didn't say if they were all repaired. If not then it should have already been replaced.

Hey, I'm hoping somone could help me, I keep getting various error messages, each one seems to have nothing to do with the other, as well as getting that blue screen (sorr don't know the name) frequently. I've run CW Shredder, Ad-Aware, and spybot, but the problems have'nt stopped.

Would someone mind checking my Hijack log? I have no idea what I'm looking at so I can't do much on my own, I'd be extremely grateful, thanks.

You need to tell us exactly what the error messages are and when you get them. I doubt they are "security" related. In any case you can check and fix these entries in the Scanlog, though they won't cure the problem:

Anyway whenevr windows starts it say "One of your disk drives is NTFS and must be checked for consisitency" It only checks the 160 gig, 1 out 5 times it says, "some unallocated space has been configured as allocated, or something similar, and then fixes this problem and reboots.. NOthing major has ever happend and many times there is nothing wrong and it loads straight onto windows,, Is this a standard Windows check which for some reasdon is now activated at startup,, (casue I did re-install windows and all my apps also when this started to happen) or is the drive somehow unstable?

I upgraded yesterday and it took almost nine hours! I lost my internet connections but after another call for updates it was recovered..
My concern at present is that I have the "store" tile but cannot get to the "store" as it blips and goes to blue. Another thing is some of the tiles on the start screen have a white cross on a black circle. When clicked they warn you cannot access the app and should consult with the System Administrator to remedy. As I am the only user who do I consult with? If anyone can help me I would be grateful...

It appears that you have two antivirus programs installed and running, McAfee and Windows Defender.

While this may seem like better protection, they can actually conflict with one another and cause system instability or even system hangs.

Windows Defender has been upgraded to an antivirus for Windows 10. You do not need to install another antivirus.

Windows Defender in Windows 10 resembles Microsoft Security Essentials and uses the same virus definitions:

Trying to update drivers for either proved unsuccessful as Windows 10 takes over and tells me that the latest are installed.
Tempted to regress to Windows 7, but that might be silly!

Hi,

Set bios for the proper frequency, timings and VDIMM for new memory.

If you're using old RAM WITH new RAM, just use new RAM.

Uninstall Avast! and set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic.

Enjoy.

Hey everyone, I recently purchased an ADATA Ultimate SU800 256GB SSD and installed it in my Inspiron 7537. However, when I leave the computer on for extended periods of time the computer will crash and bluescreen, reboot, and the BIOS says there is no boot disk to be found. The strange thing is, the computer will boot back up with no issues after the power is turned completely off.
At first, I thought this might be an issue with the drive itself, but I've tried multiple disk utilities (including CrystalDisk and the native disk utility in Windows) and they've all reported that the SSD is functioning.
I've installed all the latest drivers from the dell support page, I've flashed the latest BIOS version, I've installed the most current version of windows 10 and verified the installation files. I can't seem to think of any reason for this to be happening other than the laptop is either broken or incompatible, both of which seem highly unlikely considering it was working fine before I instlalled the drive, and it is a newer machine and shouldn't be incompatible with a SATA drive.
Another thing to note is, connecting the old HDD through USB via an external casing causes the issue to happen much faster, and sometimes will yield the windows recovery menu (suggesting it was trying to boot from the HDD)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I've tried everything but I'm stumped.

Like the title said, I'm getting random BSOD after upgrading to SSD and RAM.
Initially I thought it was the Intel Rapid Technology, because the system improved after I've installed. But now it still BSOD, but less frequent.

Here are my dump files and jcgriff2 files

Minidump.7z

Windows7_Vista_jcgriff2.7z

Edit: Sorry I didn't put my CPU config, silly me.

A:BSOD After SSD upgrade and Ram upgrade in Laptop. Mostly IRQL errors

Welcome
Have you updated to the latest firmware for your SSD?

Quote:
STOP 0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Usual causes: Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner,
Backup tool, compatibility

STOP 0x0000004E: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
Usual causes: Device driver, memory

STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM),
Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS

Suggestions:

Kaspersky does cause BSoDs. Please uninstall it and use Microsoft Security Essentials (at least to test)

Free up your start-up, keep nothing except the antivirus
→ Startup Programs - Change

Take memtest. Run for 4/5 passes
→ RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Run Disk Check for file system errors and bad sectors on it

Dear Bleepingcomputers and friends,

I need you guys' help!

Have a  customer that need help getting PCI complaint [1] at five of her facilities.   So far I only have two thing left to figure out.  I only have available Window XP Pro sp3 machines to do this on.

1)  I need to set up an internal IDS/IPS [2] scanner.   Antivirus doesn't count (PCI's insistence).  Wireshark?

2)  I need to set up an FIM [3] system on each computer with credit card information (PCI's doesn't care that the information is encrypted).  Again, Antivirus doesn't count (PCI insistence).

Many thanks,

3) File Integrity Monitoring

A:need help with PCI compliance

price is everything in this question... Establish that and you can pretty much just Google it.

Also establishing training and user outlines/ skill-sets would be beneficial... As those XP machines could be nixxed and you could do it very cheap/free if they have decent users...

I purchased a usb type c spectre late last year (the rose version with i7 and 512GB.  It generally works well but so far the power system is very disappointing.  The basic issue is I purchased this device specifically because it purports to be USB Type C compliant.  That means I should be able to charge the device with any usb type c charger provided it meets the technical specs (e.g. 45 watts and so forth).  But it doesn't.  Instead, the software settings seem to make it in effect a proprietary set up.  If so, this is objectionable and possibly contrary Australian consumer law.  The problem is that I can only charge the device with the supplied charger.  The first issue is the charger is excessively heavy and bulky.  Why does the world's slimest and lightest laptop have such a bulky charger.  It's comparable to the laptop itself.  This is just dumb! The second issue is I can't use the rest of my USB Type C set up including a large battery, and a charger in my car.  Nor can I use my phone charger.  So I have to drag the HP charger everywhere.  The third issue is that only 1 of the 3 ports actually charges other devices at the USB Type C spec.  The 2 lighting ports are not USB Type C at all - they are just 3.1 with a usb type c connector.  So they only charge the phone at 20 per cent, the phone won't transfer data, and various peripherals such as a bluetooth keyboard/mouse don't have enough juice to... I'm working on a government project that includes using PowerPoint slideshows on the internet. If you're at all familiar with the government, you're aware that there is a MAJOR push to make sure all files on the internet are 508 compliant (accessible to users with disabilities.) I'm hearing from some folks that PowerPoint is NOT 508 compliant, while others say it can be MADE compliant. (In my digging around, I found a download that claims to walk you through making a PP slideshow compliant.)

Has anyone out there run into this situation? Have any suggestions?

I have searched Intels site for hours to no avail.

Does anyone have an answer for me please?

A:Directx 10 Compliance

For DirectX 10 to work you need a graphics card that is capable eg ATI HD 2000 series or above

Vista is capable of running DirectX 9 and 10 so you wont need to upgrade your graphics card unless you want to use DirectX 10

Hello all,

while evaluating a new enterprise tool for our company a question was asked to the suppliers if their software is Vista compliant. One solution only requires a thin client with IE 5.5 or higher to use and say that they will not check if their software is Vista compliant as Vista uses IE 7 and they have tested with IE7 and Windows XP and it works fine.

Is there something that could prevent their software from working in Vista? Should we require them to certify Vista compliance?

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

Okay, I consider myself an advanced user on the software side and intermediate on the hardware side, but I am pretty much clueless at the board level.

For months, I have periodically received check stop error messages on my machine (Gateway Professional V866, 256 MB RAM, Win2K Pro). At first I thought it was a virus of some sort, especially because the error message was not always the same, and some times the system would just spontaneously reboot. I scanned with several different virus scanner (Norton Antivirus, AVS, F-Prot) and either a) no viruses, trojans, worms, etc. were found, or more frequently, b) the scan would result in a spontaneous reboot sometime after the 90% scanned level. (I had similar results with adware scans.) Eventually, the problem was so bad I did a clean install of Windows. That worked for about 2 weeks before the problem recurred. Then, I got a boot up error indicating my second disk drive was inaccessible, so I concluded that the drive was probably bad and removed it. Again, for a couple of months, all was well.

Well, the check stop errors started again until yesterday when my system became unusable. I tried another clean install, but after about 10-15 minutes into the reformat (NTFS), the machine would reboot. After several attempts, I started getting the check stop error. Thinking that my surviving hard drive may have given up the ghost (BTW, I had just backed up the system before yesterday's problems started! ), I borrowed a bootable driv... Read more

Greetings,
I am running a pre-installed version of Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit system on my HP laptop. As of the last month and a half, every time i power up my system, it tells me that i need to run a disk check on my C drive. I allow it, but unfortunately, it only gets to 21% of stage two every time before it locks up. The only solution is to power down and then skip the check next time it loads. I want to back up my hard drive to my external, but my computer won't allow it as it says one or more files are corrupted. A system restore is out of the question as i'm not exactly sure when the problem began. My virus scan and spyware detector have found nothing harmful on my computer. Please help.
