Want to replace my motherboard, processor, and ram need help.

Q: Want to replace my motherboard, processor, and ram need help.

Hi, I want to update my system. Im hoping to get a new motherboard, processor, and ram. im hoping for the ram to be 2048mb and the processor to be around 2.4ghz. also if the videocard could be agp on the motherboard that would be great, because i have an atx x800 xt and just got it a while back and it was very expensive, but if i need to replace that i could just sell it on ebay. i posted some screen shots at the bottem (from cpuz) so you can see evry detail about my pc. thanks so much -Nick

Preferred Solution: Want to replace my motherboard, processor, and ram need help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Want to replace my motherboard, processor, and ram need help.

you have another post stating that you want to get another socket-754 processor for you existing motherboard.

now this post states that you want to get a new mobo too?

honestly I would not suggest getting another processor for a socket-754 system because it will still be bottlenecked by the slower hypertransport bus and single channel ram.

if you still want to use your AGP card and still have the ability to uprade to PCI-E in the future, consider this mobo I used it myself until a month ago and it worked great. and it has gotten very good reviews. it also lets you upgrade to AM2 when it eventually is worth it to do so (i.e. K8L)

I am try to test a Intel Celron 733 (66Mertz) on a Compaq DeskPro EN Small Form Factor with 370 socket (FSB is 100Mertz for Pentium III 500). Bacause Celron is running under 66 Mertz. Will it fry the Processor? Will the motherboard is smart enough to downspeed it to run 66Mertz? I read the Compaq manual that the motherboard it will support both 66/100Mertz. That is another SW to set the Processor Multiper. What multiplier should I use ?

A:Can I replace Processor on motherboard?

Sure its possible.

What processor are you looking to upgrade to? If you are upgrading to a p4, you should make sure your mobo supports that processor. Give me a little more info on what you are trying to upgrade to. Do you have the mobo book. It should say what processors it supports.

What if I replace the motherboard with the exact same model BUT change processors? Will I have any issues?
Was in the process of updating the bios. Not sure what I did wrong but it's dead. Have to send it back to super micro. I ordered an identical motherboard. But was updating the bios so I could switch from a quad core westmere chip to a hex.
Everything I have read states the OS is married to the motherboard (Win7 64 OEM). So if I get away with no issues from the motherboard swap, will the processor swap give me issues.
My system is a dual boot ubuntu 64/Win7 setup. I don't want to reinstall if I can help it. Advice would be appreciated.

(thanks admins for correcting this. Didn't mean to hijack that other thread)

A:Replace motherboard with exact same model BUT change processor?

you should not have any problems with Win7 even if its an OEM version. MS can reset if you have to call don't worry, just call them and explain what happened they are not going to crawl through the phone line and tear your head off or anything.

I am thinking of upgrading my good old 4520s. I was wondering whether if it is possible to replace the processor for a better one. Currently there is an Intel i3-330M installed and I dont know if there are compatible processors as replacement for this notebook. Is there someone who has tried to swap the processor in 4520s?  As a second thought and question concerns SSD. Do you think it is okay to invest a little money into this 6-4 year-old machine or I shall save up for a better notebook? Even though it is an older machine, still works great - I maxed the RAM out to 8GB dual channel and had to replace the HDD a few years ago but anyways everything else inside is untouched so far. Thanks in advance.

A:Is it possible to replace the processor in an Hp probook 452...

Yes a processor upgrade is feasible: i5-540M, 2.53-GHz, 3-MB cache 594188-001i7-620M, 2.26-GHz, 4-MB cache 587259-001 Above are the 2 fastest compatible processors.  Link to download Service Manual See p. 83 for "how-to". Processor upgrade will also give you a chance to clean up in there and install new thermal compound which will keep the system cooling itself effectively.  Here is the i5 on eBay which I think would be a better choice than the i7.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i5-540M-2-53GHz-3M-2-5GT-s-Turbo-3-06GHz-Laptop-CPU-SLBPG-IBM-60y... Even the i7 is not too expensive: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i7-620M-2-66GHz-4M-Dual-Core-Processor-SLBPD-/282237923920?hash=i... If you can do the labor yourself I think it makes sense to drop another $40 or so into the laptop. The i5 or the i7 would be a significant upgrade and, as long as you don't need "newfangled" stuff like USB 3.0 you should get another couple years out of it. The HP enterprise laptops are like a good used Mercedes Benz...still going strong with 250,000 on the odometer. You can make a case for having one of those over a newer Chevrolet or Honda Accord.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Ok so my computer doesn't emit a monitor signal and turns itself off most of the time after 30 seconds this is after reapplying thermal paste because it shut itself down a couple of times from overheating. Done a couple of tests and I think the cpu is dead or the motherboard.

I have

Asus p5b-vm se
corsair 2gb ram
ati hd2900xt
intel q6600

Should I replace the broken cpu (bearing in mind it could still be the mobo possibly)

Or should I just replace the cpu, mobo and get some new ram while I'm at it to be up to date?

I'm just thinking that if i replace the cpu i might find out that it's actually the mobo that's broken and also if it is the chip and I replace it, how long before I upgrade anyway?

What processor would be a good upgrade? I've been using tomshardware charts but not sure really what kind of scores in what areas I'm looking for. I'll be using cpu-upgrade.com anyway to find out what mobo I need to get if I upgrade.

Thanks in advance guys!

A:Not sure - replace processor or upgrade completely?

try this:
Download this bootable CD image: http://soft-best.net/software/utilities_tools/1314-utility-cdrrw-8cm-v2100-bootable-iso.html

boot the cd, go to Hardware test section and run the eurosoft tests.
its a comprehensive set of tests for all your hardware. you will then know what is causing the problem. (use winrar to extract the image, you only need to download the three parts from one of the sites)

Advice:
I reccommend that you only perform the Non Distructive tests.

Hello guys, I am wondering if It possible for me to change my laptop processor. Anyway there is several model of Lenovo G400 that used different processor as you can see here (Lenovo G400 Laptop | Entry-Level Laptop from Lenovo | Lenovo UAE, and mine have Intel Celeron 1005M. Is it possible to change this laptop processor for example to the one listed on the website like Intel i3-3130M? And yes, are they soldered to the motherboard? Or Do I need to replace the motherboard as well?
Thank you in advance. Any help is always appreciated. Of course sorry my bad English

A:Is it possible to change or replace laptop processor

Nope. Laptops are so cheap now days. You could buy a new one, for the price of a motherboard for the current laptop. The Celeron CPU is actually a downgraded CPU (say i2 or Core-Duo). Biggest scam was when P4's were considered high end, but the budget systems had the word "Celeron" in it. So people figured that the CPU was garbage.

I all that the laptop is being used for is Web Browsing, email, looking at PDF's, occasional documents, online streaming, the current one will be fine.

You can use CPU-Z to find out the actually Factory "die" that Current CPU is. CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID

OK, I did a really stupid thing. I was cleaning the inside of the case and broke a pin on the processor on my PowerSpec. I am SO upset with myself! I don't suppose it's still usable?

I want to replace the processor since all my data and apps and utils etc. are set up just the way I wanted. The PowerSpec has Win XP Pro.

I tried the cheapest save: I put the HD from the PowerSpec on the eMachine as the slave. eMachine running Win XP home. I can see a lot BUT I can't get to my docs. I THINK it's because I was running as Administrator with a password on the PowerSpec. I tried to create an Administrator user on the eMachine but it said the Admin account was already present. I can't see it. I have Admin rights on both (machines? OS? HD?).

But I'd much rather get the PowerSpec running again. I was told by a techie the motherboard probably got fried so if I buy a new processor I would be throwing away my money. I don't have a lot of that. He suggested putting Linux Ubuntu (with?) NTFS-3G. He said I'd be able to get all my data, even if it's password protected. I'm a little nervous doing that since I've heard Linux is complicated to install and I'm not familiar with the commands. And besides, I want the PowerSpec back!

So, all that to preface my questions. I did TWO days!!!! of research. The board is Intel D865PERC.

I'm not sure what you need but the PowerSpec had an Intel P4 processor wi... Read more

Replace a dead processor to get Hard Drive data or just that you like the old machine

Ok. I don't know why none of you responded. I would have thought you had that knowledge at your fingertips.

It took another two days but I found that the only thing you really need to match is the socket type and chipset. For what I was doing, the socket 478 supported chipset 865PE so that was ok.

You can get the socket type off the motherboard or just by inspection by someone knowledgable. Or if you have any BIOS data you can look it up.

Discretionary is the clock (processor) speed, the cache, the bus speed, max temp...
But faster IS better.

To get to old hard drive data, in general any machine running the same OS ought to work. But in the case of XP, I found since I had a password OR because I was trying a HD with XP Pro as slave and a machine running XP Home, I could not get to my data.

I never tried the Linux solution in my original post. That would have only gotten me the data though, and NOT the setup it took so long to build up just the way I wanted it.

Intel has a processor finder that is helpful. Terminology varies upon manufacturer and common usage. It's confusing. Articles I found helpful can be found at

computer.howstuffWorks.com/motherBoard.htm
en.Wikipedia.org
the intel product comparison chart
compare.intel.com
and Motherboards.org

I need help badly ?

I have two very annoying intermittent problems with my Windows 7 PC that I built myself back in September 2014. This is my first build. I think both issues are related.
1-Unexpected reboots.
All of a sudden, my PC reboots by itself. All temps are OK. No overheating issues in Speccy. I tried to to put in good quality parts and avoid cable clutter with good cable management when I built that PC.

This build is for general computing only (Internet, email, watching movies, burning CD/DVD, listening to music, paying bills, submitting income taxes online etc...You get the picture, I'm sure).

No gaming, no video editing, nothing very demanding.

2- When I try to reboot, I get no signal to the monitor. The PSU (Seasonic M1211 bronze evo 520w) is turning, fans are turning (all of them, without exception).

Once, in an attempt to get the PC back on, I shut the PC down for about 20 minutes and the PC started normally after. Then it was OK for a while (could be a week, 2-3 weeks--it happens occasionnally) before it happens again upon rebooting.

Another time, I waited about 20 minutes but the PC would not start after. I pulled out the power cords of the monitor (Acer G235H), and that of the PSU and turned off the PSU switch in the back of PSU. Then I plugged everything back, turned the PSU switch back to on and the PC rebooted normally. Just do not know what the problem is. It is very annoying and hard to diagnose because the problem is intermittent. I che... Read more

A:Do I need to replace the motherboard ?

How long did you run Memtest for? One pass or multiple passes? Have you checked Event Viewer for errors? Are your drivers up to date? I had the same problem recently, but it had been somewhat unstable since it was built, but problem got worse over time. I tested the memory and it passed, but I kept getting BSOD with memory error references. I ended up changing the memory and so far its been running smooth, not one single BSOD or errors in the Event Viewer. I guess my memory chip just wasn't playing nice with the MoBo.

As for some of your questions. If you purchase the same exact board, in theory, it should boot up as normal with no need to do anything else.

It would do this a couple of times before it shut off completely and I had to unplug the power cord. So I have been out of the loop on PCs and particular gaming PCs for a while. However yesterday I have found out my current PC which I built has decided to start failing on its RAM slots which is never good. It's sometimes POSTs and other does not

So my question is two phase can anyone recommend a good 775 chip set mother board that supports DDR3 RAM so I can try and get this PC working again. My current board is an Asus P5kc which is running an adapted 3.33 Xeon CPU X5470 I think

Or

A good motherboard / CPU combo that I could buy. My video card is old it's a Radeon 5850 so will might need to look for one of those but I have a good PSU and case (ATX ) and 3 HDD one of which is SSD. So looking at what is out there now.

Any advice or tips is good looking at Max budget of £500 for rebuild and about £60 for 775 motherboard ( that bios would support a Xeon)

Thanks!!

ATX Form Factor.
CPU - Socket 478 for P4 processors (Willimate 478 and Northwood 478)
with 400/533 MHz (100/133Mhz QDIR)

Mine is a 2.8 GHz

I have 1GB of RAM - PC2700

I cannot seem to find a replacement mobo.

MY QUESTION

This is my first time changing a mobo.

Because my CPU and chipset are as above - am I restricted to what

In other words, do I have to locate a motherboard with the
exact specs as my old board has?

Or can I upgrade to a more modern one.

I'm really in the dark here - any help would be appriciated.

A:Motherboard and CPU replace - will not boot

Hi,

If you didn't prepare the drive before the move and also Repair install fails, your options are getting limited. What I would do is install another drive and put your OS on it with a clean install. Then, take the drive with your data on and put it in there as a slave so you could get your data off.

I had a virus and took my HP to Staples for $99 virus repair. When they returned it to me the battery had been switched and was not the correct battery for my laptop. I took it back and they sold me a new power cord that I had to use all the time. I could not use the laptop without having it plugged into an outlet. No battery life at all. After a few weeks of this, the laptop would not turn on. I took it back again and was told I need a new motherboard. Should I replace the motherboard or invest in a new laptop? Would the battery issue contribute to the motherboard crash? I loved the laptop and it fit all my needs in editing pictures and making videos. I have about 20,000 pictures stored on it. It has a DS card reader and CD burning capability. It would be expensive to replace and hard to find these features in my price point currently. However, I do not want to invest the money if it is not worth the repair. I have read here that getting a new motherboard is akin to getting a new engine in your car. Has anyone had this repair and was it worth it?

The default configuration I have is an i7-6700 with 12Gb of RAM, I can bump it to 16Gb by replacing the 2 modules with 2x8gb DDR3L which would cost me about $60 I already have 16gb DDR4 ram that I'm not using, was wondering if I can replace the MB with something else? Since they MB now is an uATX which is the same as an mATX

Hi, Whay not ? All you need to know (a) Form factor to fit to the right holes for those screws(b) Very importance: places to connect the PSU, if your plan is to upgrade the PSU too then it doesn't matter which one as long as they use standard connectors - in this case, you can upgrade the tower too (aka build your own machine). Regards.

My Flex 2-15 20405 doesn't power up and when in charge, power light blinking. I checked with service center and they asked me to replace mother board. I replaced with new mother board and still blinking. So removed battery supply and connected with power and switched on the system, I can see display with "System re-conguring. Soon will reboot." message comes once and switched off.

Long story short, I spilled some liquids onto my PC. The problem at first seemed to be my PSU which at the time was a RM750. So I replaced it with the RM850, when i tried booting it up i had a black screen but everything else turned on. No motherboard or any type of screen appeared everything else seemed to be running fans, liquid cooler, gpu however my mouse and keyboard wouldn't but my microphone did have a lit light on which mean it was being powered. After that i decided to replace a cable on my psu and it had a short circuit which I'm guessing fried my psu once again because a burning smell appeared but it smelled brand new similar to the psu(hopefully you understand what i mean xD) So now my psu my a clicking sound everytime i try to start it but i wont stay turned on anymore. I want to know if i should replace my motherboard and cpu or should i try changing my PSU only? And maybe recommend a build with GTX 780Ti?? Any help would be appreciated thanks.
My build:
CPU: i5 4690k
GPU: PNY GTX 780Ti
Motherboard:MSI z87-g45
RAM: 8gb Corsair Vengeance
PSU: Corsair RM850w

A:Should i replace my motherboard and CPU at this point??

What do you mean when you say "you spilled some liquid onto your PC"? Where did the liquid actually get spilled...on to what?

Hi all - I tried to find this in the forum first - it may be I just don't know what to look for and if so, I apologize. My T61 (6459-CTO) has a bad motherboard.  It's still a great machine and I'd like to replace the motherboard.  Can someone point to: (a) somewhere where I can figure out which motherboard to replace it with (and if possible, a source) and(b) instructions/video on how to do the replacement? Thanks Mark

Instructions on how to disassemble the computer and replace the motherboard should be in the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM).  Sorry, I don't have the link but you should be able to search for it on this forum.

I have a Lenovo T430 with Ubuntu with an Intel i5 processor, but the motherboard is defective and I can't power on my computer. If I buy a used motherboard from ebay where it says in the description "This unit has been tested to successfully power on and boot to the BIOS screen", all I have to do is boot the computer as normal, and then it will enter Ubuntu and I can access all my old data just as before? If the replacement motherboard doesn't include a CPU, then I can just use my previous one on the new motherboard and it'll work fine, right?I saw used motherboards with the same product number on eBay around $30-70. Is it worth it?What about paying $70 or so to the computer shop so they can repair it?If the above aren't worth it, then how can I transfer my data to a new computer? I just buy a new computer and insert the SSD from the old one into it and I'll recover everything? I don't need to erase anything if I want to resell that Lenovo (everything but the SSD and damaged motherboard)?

A:Replace motherboard or buy new laptop?

Tested to enter the BIOS is diffferent from tested and working.  There can be things wrong.  If it is listed as "used". it should be working, so you should check the seller's return policy.  Assuming it is working, you should be able to access your data.  You can move the CPU, using new thermal paste.  It's your choice whether to replace it yourself or pay someone.  If the T430 meets your needs, it should be worth the cost.

Hi, since an unfortunate event, I was forced to join the forum . I'm a proud owner of an x220 4290CTO. Yesterday doing some cleaning to the machine, I fkd up a pin from the keyboard connector. Shame on me. Now I want to replace the mobo, but I can't find any replacement for the 4290CTO. Should I ignore the "cto" part and go ahead with any mobo compatible with 4290 (List )?Since I'm from Uruguay, I can't afford to fk up the buy , I can't send back the mobo if it doesn't fit or work with my model. Home some of you can help me to solve this sh*t. Deep sorrow.... love this machine.

I replaced a motherboard on a Dell laptop about a year ago and their website was quite helpful. If anyone could point me to some resources, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Today i replaced my motherboard of my hp g62 A18-ed. it's my second mb I installed. First one didn'tpower on at all. This motherboard will power on. Wifi led will blink. Fan spins for 5 sec, then stops and after10-15 sec it wil spin again. Screen stays black. Seller guaranteed that this mb is 100% ok and tested before. Tried this MB in a other G62 case, still same problem. Tested with minimum hardware. Only ram, display andpower switch. Seller advised me to use single-sided ram. I think this is not the problem. The ram I use worked on previous MB. Tried other CPU allready. Anybody a solution? Regards, Roy.

I think I have damaged my motherboard - I was trying to clone a 2.5" hard disk as an upgrade for my laptop, and managed to connect the drive incorrectly to the IDE asaptor I was using. Net result is that system setup is now unable to recognize any hard disk I connect to the IDE cables, though CD/DVD drives are OK. I've tried both IDE sockets, different cables, different drives, etc, etc. So pretty sure the motherboard is damaged in some way. Luckily my normal drives are SATA so ok for now.

But my question is (unless someone has a magic fix for the above) - how do I work out what motherboard to purchase as a replacement? The system is a Dell Dimension 4600 with a 2.6GHz P4 cpu. The motherboard has the following number on it - DS/N CN-02Y832-4811367-01S0 (and AA C23142-306).

Is there anything else I should bear in mind? Will I have difficulty getting the XP license to transfer OK?

A:Think I've damaged motherboard - how to replace?

You'll have to get the exact same motherboard, which means going back to Dell or buying one on eBay. Putting non-Dell boards into a Dell can be tricky and you are not allowed to use the Dell Windows XP license with anything except the mainboard that comes or is an approved replacement for the system.

But have you tried to clear the CMOS? There should be either a button, switch, or jumper to do this. Check the Dell site. And make sure the IDE just isn't disabled in the BIOS or set to None as that can happen.

You can also add a PCI IDE controller card to replace the IDE on the mainboard.

Hello guys, I assembled my desktop three years back with I5 650 processor - Socket LGA1156 | 4 GB DDR3 RAM | Intel DH55TC Motherboard. Recently I started having issues with my motherboard and system does not start. When i gave it for service, I was told that I need to change the motherboard which would cost around 8-10K. I was also suggested that Motherboard plus Fourth Gen Intel processor costs around 15K and its better to get a new one as the I5 650 is relatively old which might stop working soon.

Appreciate any suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
So, the monitor on my XPS m1330 finally kicked the bucket.  I was seeing horizontal lines (much like everybody else) for a while and at that time, my laptop wasn't covered under the 2 year extended warranty so I decided I wouldn't bother with it.  That said, the screen nowadays is just a solid black with no Dell logo nor anything else when it powers on.  You can, however, adjust the brightness on the machine and when you plug it into an external monitor, the horizontal lines reappear.  From reading everything in this forum, I now have two questions.  First, would it be correct to assume I'll have to replace the motherboard (given that the video card is soldered onto the motherboard for this model)?  Second, if so, what all will I need to do to replace it and prevent this from happening again (ie: do I need to do anything with the heat sink, what in tarnations is a heat sink??, etc)?  I already called up Dell's out-of-warranty department and it looks like it'll cost me around $429 for parts +$100 for labor.  I figured for a couple hundred more I could get a decent laptop, but honestly, my m1330 was a big expense already at $2300 so I'd like to salvage some more value out of it, especially because college kids aren't made of money.
As you can tell, I'm a rookie on this, but I've done my fair share of dismantling the laptop several dozen times so I'm pretty familiar with where everything go... Read more

A:Will I need to Replace the Motherboard on m XPS m1330?

If the system is less than two years old, the extension should apply:
http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2008/08/18/nvidia-gpu-update-dell-to-offer-warranty-enhancement-to-all-affected-customers-worldwide.aspx
If it doesn't, and you must repair, I would get the Intel version (NOT the nVidia) of the mainboard:
http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=4722
and you'll need a new heatsink for it:
