blues screen when playing music from itunes, or playing videos online

Q: blues screen when playing music from itunes, or playing videos online

I keep getting a blue screen when i play music from my itunes, or when i play videos or music files online. The error message is something like "kernel page instack error" or something to that affect. It doesnt happen when i play movies from my windows media player or vlc player. I think it has something to do with my drivers, but i really dont know. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

Preferred Solution: blues screen when playing music from itunes, or playing videos online

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

You can look at this document and follow the instructions

Basically it says:
1. Install the latest SP
2. Check your hard drive (chkdsk)

I recently fixed a problem where the display driver would stop responding and then restart but I don't know if this is related to that.

Hi and welcome

This one was caused by hardware. If this is a one off I would not worry about it, but
I would
run a system file check
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow
If you are overclocking stop
if you have a raid update its driver

Hi i'm new here gotta say nice and organized forum!

Problem started week ago, on windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. screen crashed (black) followed by display driver has crashed and recovered notice while being on the internet chrome/ie/firefox all of them, watching videos either on youtube or mpc.

Did complete re format, upgraded to windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (have 4gb ram).
Got worse, same thing but now followed by BSOD. Doesn't seem to happen when i play games.

Things iv'e tried so far:

- Update graphic drivers to both last stable version and beta, including erasing them completely, using driver sweeper and installing again.
- Uninstalling and getting older version of Flash
- Disable hardware acceleration on flash
- Checked processor temp and graphic card temps everything is normal, nothing overheats, never overclocked

A:Screen tears followed by BSOD playing videos, youtube, online browsing

Unfortunately the installation is non-genuine.
The Key is that of an Acer/Gateway/Packard Bell pre-installed computer - and the motherboard is a retail one by Gigabyte.

The best course of action is to:Purchase a legitimate Windows 7 licence.
Format the HDD.
Reinstall Windows and activate.

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I honestly don't know what I'm doing. My Vista's not playing any of the music files on my computer or my iPod on any music player I use (iTunes, WinAmp, the Rhapsody that came with it), though it plays anything else that's online. Other sounds on the computer are also playing (MSN, AIM, system sounds). What it does exactly is, upon clicking any song in the media library, it shows intention to play it but then stays at 0:00, while recognizing the length of song, name of artist, etc. Did I miss something?

Hi guys,

I'm a new member here and require help. I've put my specs up in profile so hopefully you should be able to see that.

I'll explain the sort of problems I've been getting recently. I used to get BSOD randomly about a month or so ago. Someone told me to do memory test and hard drive check, which I did. My pc was working fine for sometime after that, not sure if it was because of those tests. Anyway, so recently now when I watch video online within about 10-15 minutes computer freezes, screen freezes and I get weird noise from speakers. I suppose the noise might just be because everything froze. Funny thing is computer only crashes when I watch videos from one website. If I watch from youtube or somewhere else it doesn't, neither from any media player, vlc or other. That's one issue.

Second similar issue when I play online game (Cross fire), same thing happens. Within about 10-15 minutes it freezes, the weird noises don't come all the time though after it freezes.

Third problem, once the pc crashes and I shut it down directly, then I turn it back on, it turns on but doesn't respond, doesnt start windows or the screens that come before, monitor also doesn't turn on so just doesnt boot up the system. Sometimes it makes some kind of noise (not all the time), can't describe it really. After some time though when I turn it on it starts up normally.

I've tried to search and try to solve the problem but couldn't really understand what is causing the crashes. I looked int... Read more

Yesterday I noticed that my itunes MP3 player started playing music faster than the music is supposed to be. This also raises the pitch of the music. I checked all the options for something to change the songs back to normal speed, but there is nothing that changes song speed. Also the "play time" listing for the songs has not changed, and as itunes displays the track position, i noticed that it is counting it's seconds faster than normal. I also tried using their help program, which didn't have anything about song speed. Is this a virus or something? Does anyone know what i can do to put my music back to normal?

Oh, i almost forgot Musicmatch Jukebox plays the songs at the normal speed, so i know that the files themselves have not changed, it must be something wrong with itunes. Although i can use MMJB for now, i prefer itunes and would really like to be able to use it again,

Last night I clicked on a link in my WebMD newsletter, which I've been getting for ages. It was a video and it would not play. I tried another WebMD newsletter with a video link and the same thing.

Today I clicked a link in a newsletter I received from LastPass and was going to watch an instructional video. It would not play.

I went to YouTube to see if their videos would play, and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. I clicked on some links I had kept from attachments sent to me that had videos and the ones I selected played.

I went to Amazon and played a video on Command Hooks and that worked.

So can anyone tell me why the first two instances I mentioned would not work?

I'm using Firefox 11.

Hello. For the last three weeks I have had problems watching videos online and now even playing songs on sites such as myspace. My computer usually runs very fast. If I go to youtube and try to watch a video it will play normally but the load does not keep up therefore it stops every two seconds, plays, and then stops again. On myspace videos will now play for six seconds only. Even songs on my play list will stop randomly and go to the next song due to load issues on myspace. Everything else runs fine such as opening up pages on the internet. It is only with videos and music that I have been having problems with. I have had a slow internet day everyonce and a while but this has been going on for three weeks now. I have done scans with my McAfee with nothing found and I did a system restore to two weeks before this problem started. Can anyone please help? Thanks and Best Regards, Isaac Infante

I don't want to just turn power saving off.

Increase the time for the computer to turn off its display/go to sleep in Power Options...

You can change it back later OR make a custom power plan...call it Music...set a longer display/sleep cutoff...and switch profiles when necessary

Hi iamromy & welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.

Arg1: ffffe000297f04d0, Optional pointer to internal TDR recovery context (TDR_RECOVERY_CONTEXT).
Arg2: fffff8017bc36d84, The pointer into responsible device driver module (e.g. owner tag).
Arg3: 0000000000000000, Optional error code (NTSTATUS) of the last failed operation.
Arg4: 000000000000000d, Optional internal context dependent data.

It seems that the operation performed successfully and still we see the crash happening. [/code]
In this case, your ATI driver is acting up. But, since the operation was performed successfully, I wouldn't be surprised if this is caused by the CCC since it is very well known to cause problems.

The driver you are using is dated in July 2014 -

Hi, I have windows vista ultimate, and I make tons of videos. In November, I built a new pc, and it worked great! no problems (specs are at the bottem). Now I only have one problem, and to me this is a big problem. I make tons of videos, with my freinds, and sometimes for money. Im going to college for video in a year and a half, so I need to do as much now as possible. The problem is that all songs and videos on my computer randomly will slow down for 4-5 seconds, then continue as if it hadnt happend. I have no idea what the cause of this is. This did not happen until february, when I got windows vista. before installing it, I completly formated my harddrive, and installed vista ultimate (previously had windows xp pro).
Now I have no idea how to fix this problem. You now are probably wondering why I waited so long to say this, but I just finally had enough of it. I just put up with it for so long. It does not only slow down while watching and listenign to videos and music on my computer, but also when I watch videos off of the internet (even if they are completly buffered. I know there can be conflicts with video codecs? not really sure what that means, or how i would fix that, but any suggestions at all would be extremly helpful. Thank you VERY much! -Nick.

The crashdumps don't really show much pattern but there are some appearance of memory failure. First, however, I recommend turning on Driver Verifier. Do not select the following checks: Force Pending I/O Requests, IRP Logging, and Low Resource Sim. Select all other checks. Make sure to restart system after you finish setup. If you experience a boot loop afterwards, go into Safe Mode by pressing F8 prior to Windows logo and disable DV there. Provide us any new crashdumps.

Once that's taken care of, you can also go ahead and run Memtest86+ for at least 7 passes on your RAM.

Hello there.

Basically i've been troubled with BSODs since month, pretty much since i've got this PC i haven't experianced any problems, however, after month and a bit i've started getting bluescreens pretty much too offten.
Today i got it 3 times in a row when i tried to watch single episode of naruto :P - equals 3 BSOD in 20 mins, so there we go im posting here hoping for a bit of help.

I'm running

Reinstalled it like 3 times by now on this machine, 1st installation was pretty much out of BSODs at all, however i got some problems after clearing the other pc off this one so i basically reinstalled it around month and a half ago, quite a bit after i've started getting BSODs so i just reinstalled it again, results are pretty much the same.

Over the time, i've been using tools like daemon tools for virtual drives, few antivirs, including Kaspersky trial one. Point is - i've been reading throught tons of forums so far and first thing i've started checking after i got those BSODs were drivers.

I've got rid of DT since windows driver compability verify counted this one as incompatibie.

I've also uninstalled kaspersky once to try out new ver [got like 2 BSODs of kaspersky itself aswell].

I've been running memtest for round 3 hours, got no memory errors,
occt test caused bluescreen error today after like 15 mins, however i've got no idea wth is log of this program, i've just run stress test for RAM/CPU up there.

I've menaged to get attachement up here, posting it down.

One more thing - so far i've been running second OCCT test and it seems it also crashed around 15 minute of test, althought there was no bluescreen, just test error. Thing is most common BSOD is system_service_exception one, i could assume it's driver thing however win driv ver. seems to don't see any of this problems + im running verifier right now the built-in. Seems ok so far.

I have also mentioned that i've reinstalled win like 3rd time now since i got this pc so i can assume it's quite fresh install, however filled with MOBO drivers and Clone for alternative to DT.

I have tried using Firefox and Google Chrome to play online videos, but neither work. However, Youtube will load. I believe the problem is Microsoft Silverlight, which I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox as well as Chrome.

The below video is an example. I can load it in Safari (which has no problems loading videos whatsoever), but cannot load it in FF or Chrome. However, if I click "format" on the bottom right of the video, and change it to HTML5 or Flash, the video will play. If I let it choose the best format to play, which is Microsoft Silver Light, it will load to 100% and then go black, with the bottom buffer bar displaying 00:00 and not loading the video.

This link is an example of what it will not play:

Whenever I've tried to play music, a dvd or video of any sort, or play a game my computer has been getting complete freeze ups. The problem only started around 3 - 4days ago.
I play music in Itunes, and this is where the problem started, however, I have also tried using winamp and vlc but I get the same problem. I can get anywhere between 30 seconds and 10 minutes of music before the problem occurs but when it does it locks up the whole computer, i can move my mouse around but nothing can be clicked, no keyboard commands are working (ctrl + alt + del, alt + f4 etc.). When the song freezes it will constantly loop the second of the song that it froze on but no other worrying sounds are made by any part of the computer.

If I'm watching a video I once again get between 30 seconds and 10 minutes before a problem occurs, the audio will carry on as normal, but the video will hang and thats when the whole computer freezes. Once again, no keyboard commands work, and the mouse can move but not interact.
When playing games everything is fine until i try to close the game or click (or alt + tab) away from it, then it will get caught half way between the command and freeze up the entire computer just like the other causes of freezing.

The only way I can un-freeze my computer is to turn it off at the power button or using the restart button.
I've used various anti-virus, registry cleaner, diagnostic tools etc. but nothing seems to have helped the situation, a system re... Read more

Hi There,

Even when I turn it on the windows start up music stutters.

Itís driving me mad as you can imagine! I've tried loads of things, updated all drivers, and installed new sound card and im now wondering if the motherboard is on its way out!

Have any f you had this happen before or heard of it?

Any help would be greatly received as it possibly the most annoying thing ever.

My system is below

So basically my computer has been crashing for about two weeks now. I have just switched from Ultimate 32-bit to 64-bit and they were both clean installs. I was thinking about buying a registry cleaner but i guess ill come to the pros first

A:BSOD while watching videos, playing games or music

Hello Vlandor.

Since you are having problems when running something I have to ask you how old the hardware is. I had a similar problem my self not too lobg ago and it ended turning out to be the harddrive that was faulting.

My recommendation would be to run some benchmarking programs to see if you might get some kind of clues that way. Maybe you can find a bench mark that crashes your computer almost instantly compared to the other programs. I would recommend starting of with Prime95 for CPU stress testing and 3DMark for stress testing of your GPU. Please come back and tell us the results when you are done with the two.

Also i have to ask if you did any changes to the computer before these problems started to accur. Also a registry cleaner will not help you if you have tried a clean install of windows.

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual-Core E6500, 2.93GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS, 256 MB
I'm using Google Chrome.

Sometimes I can see such a "greened picture" before it happens.

Sometimes it gets released, but only if Google Chrome successes to turn off Adobe Flash Player.

It was happening to me in Windows XP x86. I have installed now Windows XP x64, but it keeps happening.

Memtest86 test was successful after 3 full passes.

PC and CPU temperatures are just fine (30 C).

It's about one year old PC.

Disk cleanup and defragmentation don't help.

Drivers are most recent.

BSoD also occurs sometimes while playing video games, but nothing relevant shows up in Event Viewer.

I keep my PC clean of dust regularly.

My current direction is a failure of my GPU, but I'm not sure.

I've been having this problem for months now and can not figure out what is causing it. Every couple of weeks my pc would bsod almost instantly every time I watch a video on YouTube and this can happen for days or weeks, then the problem will go away for a few weeks and suddenly come back again. I have tried so many different fixes but the problem always seems to come back. 2 weeks ago I did a complete wipe and reinstall of windows 7 and guess what, 2 days ago it started to bsod again just like it did before. Can someone please help me?

Edit: Okay, now it is crashing just from browsing Google :/

A:BSOD when watching videos online and sometimes while playing games

Also another thing that has been happening which is unrelated and not necessarily a problem is every now and then I will hear a buzzing/whining sound from inside of my computer and it will change pitch whenever I move the mouse or open new windows or do anything which changes what is on screen when in game menus (I noticed the pitch change most when going through the options menu in minecraft) its very strange are hard to explain but does anyone know what it is and if it is normal?

A:BSOD when playing youtube videos or online media

All drivers should be downloaded and installed from HP. Avoid 3rd party programs that update drivers on your system; those drivers are not always the best option, and updating multiple drivers at once leads to a higher likelihood of installing a buggy driver or installing a driver that is meant for hardware that is similar but not identical to that which is in your system.

Additionally, pre-built systems by HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc. have special power schemes that their drivers are designed to handle and the drivers provided by 3rd parties do not fit into those schemes. That in itself can cause instability and blue screen crashes. You may need to install Windows fresh or use your HP recovery discs to revert back to how the system is meant to be setup software-wise.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Win7 systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although we have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions). Please uninstall the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ

As an alternative, many people recommend the use of Total Mounter or Magic ISO

Security Software

Right now I cannot see any security software installed on your system, did you have any? removed it for some reason? Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software. Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes are recommended from a strict BSOD perspective. They do not cause blue screens on the system as other AV products do.

Do not start the free trial of MalwareBytes, unselect that option when prompted.

Update and make full scans with both separately.
