duplicate email messages, lots of them

Q: duplicate email messages, lots of them

I use windows Live Mail, wife uses XP. Many in my vomputer club use XP, Vista,win7 as I do.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

Preferred Solution: duplicate email messages, lots of them

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This article goes into more detail:

Someone's sending email that looks like it's from me to my contacts, what can I do?

Maybe this will be an easy question. I converted to xp from ME and am currently running sp1. It seems that when I converted to XP it created many duplicates of files and folders. For instance, there are about 4 places I can go to find cookies, ie history. All under the same user name, some are always empty others have data. There are many other folders with the same issue.

At the same time there are some folders I know are in the system somewhere but can't find them in the files they should be. I suspect they are in another duplicate file somewhere.

Is there a simple way to clean this up?

A:lots of duplicate empty folders?

hey fwtex,

you got a weird one here. one thing you could try to see if the duplicate folders are needed or not is to rename them to something else. then restart the computer and start just doing normal stuff, and see if you get any error messages. if no error messages popup then it should be safe to delete the folders. I'm thinking if the folders are empty then it should be safe to delete.

I'm guessing your xp is running fat32 and not ntfs (because you upgraded to xp from me). if i were you i would have backed up my data, did a format, and did a fresh xp install using ntfs, but that's just my opinion.

Wondering if anyone has heard of this problem before...
A friend running Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP says that sometimes many copies (i.e., up to 50) of a message are sent to the recipient. He says it only occurs in instances where he tries to send a message to more than one recipient, and then each recipient receives duplicate copies. He also said each time it was with an attachment of some "joke" file which had been passed on to him. I don't know anything of the type or origin of the files, but I believe it's occured on different occasions with different files.

A virus perhaps? A bad setting? Some operator error? A problem caused by the attachment? Thanks.

I've got a client who has started receiving duplicate messages. This has just recently started to occur. She is using Netscape Messenger (v.4.7), with Win98. I don't believe that she has changed any of her settings, so does anybody have a suggestion?

A:Receiving duplicate messages

Found this. Its for OE though.

The bug appears when you have more than one POP3 mail account on one server, and any of the accounts use the "Leave on Server" option. To use more than one POP3 account on one server, disable "leave on Server" or only use one POP3 account on that server with each instance of the OE client (per windows instance or per machine.) Mike M found a fix for this If you enter the IP address for your pop server in Accounts/Mail for those mail accounts where you wish to leave the message on the server and the alias name for your pop server in Accounts/Mail for those mail accounts where you are not leaving the messages on the server. This little fudge, whilst still accessing the same server, seems to overcome the present problems. If you don't know the IP address for your server then may I suggest you ping the server using its alias from a DOS box. This will then report the full IP addres

Hey all,

Since a week I noticed that when chatting with fb friends via the Messaging app of Win 8, my messages are sent as duplicates. Friends do not see any double messages coming from me, so the problem is only on my side. When I go to the Facebook website itself, I can see my sent messages without any duplicates, so I guess it's the Messaging app itself.

Anyone know how to fix this? I am using Win 8 64x Pro

Thanks in advance,

I log into email account for yahoo. Screen opens and it shows Loading... I am using a Vista Home Premium PC. There is nothing on screen but blank page. You see the headings menu in inbox. But, cannot see the inbox and mail. Is there a registry fix or regsvr32 script that I should run, or is there some type of .dll problem? Help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you...

A:Email inbox show loading messages. Unable to view messages

You have not said what browser you are using so I will just give a guide using IE8.

The most common fix for this problem seems to be to delete your browsing history, cookies, etc. With the browser open click on Tools, Internet Options, then select Delete under Browsing History, on the next page uncheck all the boxes and click on Delete. Give it a minute or two to complete and then reboot the PC.

This will have deleted all your saved passwords so you will have to enter and save any you use.

This address will go directly to the mail page, if you get stuck, and you could also try using the refresh button.

Can anyone tell me how to identify and delete duplicate identical messages in Outlook 98, please?

I use Windows NT 4.0, and the size of my offline mailbox folder in Outlook 98 is now 150Mb containing up to three copies of all messages I've received (caused by various human errors!). If I could remove the duplicates it would halve the mailbox size and then I could do some sensible archiving.

But I can't find any guidance on being able to identify the duplicates without having to manually wade through all 5,000 messages one by one. Any bright ideas, please?

A:Duplicate, Triplicate & Quadruplicate Messages!!

Now Chuck, you know better than to post duplicate threads.

Sounds like the server, sometimes they can get hung up there and repeat sending. May also be a virus on their end, not up on those. Check yourself for a virus also. http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ If you dont turn up anything, I would call your ISP and let them know.

I recently reformatted due to slowing of my computer and things have been great, playing alot of Battlefield 2142 and it looks amazing on my rig, however today I was playing and things were going excruciatingly show, and eventually just stopped. I had to unplug it and turn it back on. I noticed problems immediately after XP loaded up and got on my user. Resolution was to a minumum, my AIM, Steam, and just about everything crashed and gave me the error report message. Everytime I load AIM or Firefox(IE too), it gives me an error report screen, however there really isn't a problem, i just move the error window to the corner of my screen and I'm able to browse freely. But I can't do anything besides that really, my sound drivers are screwed, 2142 takes years to load and without sound isn't much use, I can't really figure out what the heck happened. Hi All,
I am running Outlook 2007 on a Windows Vista machine. I have recently set up a second email account in Outlook. I have no problems sending or receiving from either account, however when I recieve email for the new email account (not the defalut account by the way) I recieve the same message twice.

I've looked at the headers for the two different emails, and it appears that one is being sent to my default address. I obvioulsy don't have any forwards set up, or anything like that.

I was told it was a known issue with Outlook 2007, but nobody seem to have a work around for it.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

A:Solved: Outlook 2003 keeps receiving duplicate e-mail messages

Is the POP3 account setup to leave a copy of the messages on the server?
If so, clear that option, close and restart Outlook 2003 and collect your messages.
Let us know if that makes a difference.

I think I have asked this before. I am getting so much spam email im sick of deleting it all! These fat heads who send it to me I wish they would stop.

Some of the emails say "Your date has been approved with Jenn" Then will say my husband is away for a week so if the first date goes well we will try another.

Come talk to jean and see her body at bla bla website.

I get so many others too. Partsolver and towel direct?? I now have between my two computers almost 200 unread of spam emails and some thats not spam. It takes forver to go through and delete them all.

Ive been told not to hit unsubscribe but sometimes it helps. They say then they know your email is valid. Well they must or they would cease to email me so whats it going to matter to unsubscribe?

Ive even tried to "bounce to sender" but nothing works! Is there any way to block emails from these people? Or not allow them on my server? A auto bounce before they even come on my pc?

Maybe I should just ask my ISP I dont know. I thought id ask one last time.

A:I get lots of spam email to my email address

There are usually two places where SPAM filtres can be effective. The most obvious is at your ISP's Mailbox; because how ISPs handle the spam filter vary, I can give no explicit instructions, although their on-line help section generally will provide those.
The second place is at your Email Client on your computer. FF/Mozilla both include teachable Spam filters that you can use to segregate legitimate mail from the gunk.

The best place to stop SPAM is to be extremely careful about your Email Address. It would be a wise step to have one Email Address for friends, family, and trusted people, and a "throwaway" Email address (s) for on-line registrations, Ebay, or other public places. Once these addresses become, as they will, clogged with SPAM, you can simply delete them and create new addresses, beginning the process over again.

I'm hoping one of your clever people might be able to help with a number of different BSOD stop screens since reinstalling Windows 7 64bit pro.

I've been getting a number of different messages appear (irq not less or equal, memory manager, error in non paged area), but i can't work out where the problem is.

I've ran the Intel processor diag tool, which was fine, then memtest86 which was fine (only for one pass though), then checked that all the drivers are the latest, then ran Driverscanner which said my usb mass storage driver was out of date (but haven't been able to update that yet), i've even reinstalled the os a couple of times, but i'm stating to hit a 'brick wall' with this one.

A:lots of BSOD messages since system rebuild

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you... Read more

For the last few weeks, everytime I turn on my computer, about 10 error messages come up. It's the same error message that looks like this:
*If you want to read what the error message says, click the photo and then click the expand button in the bottom right corner to read it*

I would click "close" and the message would keep popping up but then disappear after a while.
My computer has also been acting very slow while on the internet, sometimes it would freeze and I wouldn't be able to click anything. While it freezes, it would make this beeping noise repeatedly until it unfreezes too.

Is my computer infected with a virus? What does the error message mean? How can I solve these problems and what do you think all of this is caused from?

Hi I am new to this forum, so please bear with me. Could anyone help with an annoying problem I am receiving countless error messages -yellow triangle- informing me that almost every application I go into is corrupted. It then informs me to utilise the chkdsk facility via the run command in the start menu. I have done this and it gives me the usual message of system is in use run chkdsk on reboot etc. I always type Y , but on the reebot I get a blue screen informing me that my op system is NTFS and this cannot be locked or checked, leaving me back to square one. How do I use my chkdsk to address these corrupted files. Any advice welcome. Many thanks Tom

A:Receiving lots of corruption messages cant use chkdsk

Try this click Start>>Run type cmd click Ok.

In the Command Prompt type chkdsk /r click Enter

You will be asked if you want a check disk to run on next startup click Y and then press Enter

My computer said it had automatic updates. I clicked and it installed IE 2008. While working I opened Mozilla bcuz I always use IE but I needed to use them both at the same time. I started getting popups which i NEVER get. Then AVG said I had a trojan warning, a dangerous virus. All browsers shut down on their own. IE WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL. It only allows me to use Mozilla. I ran antivirus scan. says I have infected files and trojan name is everywhere.

Windows keep shutting down on their own.

after about 15 min sitting idle, the screen goes BLACK!!! unity isnít off but nothing works. I tried to turn off power manually and the screen stayed black, but the tool bar @ the bottom showed some windows and one thing running that I never opened. In a panic, I turned it off completely by pressing the power button.

I really need my IE back. I donít care for Mozilla. This is my work computer and I DO NOT want to compromise any customer credit card information.

I have Vista 32 bit, and my PC was working fine until I downloaded the same virus twice. I was unsure what had caused it the first time as I was downloading numerous things, but I only realised what it was after trying to re-download one of the programmes a second time after the first virus. (http://download.cnet.com/Corel-VideoStudio-Pro/3000-13631_4-10029706.html)

The First Time:

I downloaded the virus, and I got the Blue Screen of Death, the PC automatically restarted, and when it did, I realised Norton 360 had become disabled, and was saying my PC was under threat, so I went to safe mode, restored a day or two back and then scanned with Norton - there weren't any problems. My PC was then running normally, but a little slower. I downloaded Advanced SystemCare and Malwarebytes - and I deleted a lot of files under Advanced SystemCares instructions.

The Second Time:

I downloaded the virus again, and I got the Blue Screen of Death, the PC automatically restarted, I went to Safe Mode, and restored it to a few hours back, I think. I had downloaded Advanced SystemCare and Malwarebytes prior to the second time, so I used all these 3 anti-virus in safe mode, all came up with no infected files/virus etc... But with Advanced SystemCare, I decided to use a few tools in the toolbox such as "Clone Files Scanner" - which deletes clone files to free up space, amd I used the registry cleaner.

When I started the PC again in normal mode after scanning with the anti-viruse... Read more

Hello, let's get a second opinion on the malware first.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Download Link 1Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. I don't know when the blue screens started, but it wasn't straight from the off. It must have been about 1-2weeks later. I've tried quite a lot of things! This is what I remember doing (not in order):

* Ran memtest86. No errors after 2 passes
* Updated BIOS to latest version
* Set the BIOS back to defaults (I had it on 'performance mode')
* Updated SSD firmware to latest version
* Uninstalled Daemon Tools lite after reading something on here. Not sure if I managed to get the driver too
* Lots of the blue screen errors were Atheros, so dug around with alternate drivers for my TP Link wireless card, then uninstalled it, removed it and started using the ASUS onboard one
* Updated all the mobo utilities and drivers from the ASUS site
* Updated the Nvidia drivers (clean install)
* Unplugged my Wacom
* Switched SSD cable and port (using the onboard ports rather than 3rd party)
* Monitored temps with CoreTemp running Prime95 (80 degrees max), no bsod
* Monitored temps with Furmark (87 degrees max), no bsod

Currently I've taken 3 sticks of RAM out and plan to test all of them individually in all slots.

A:Seemingly random BSODs, lots of different error messages

Welcome aboard.

► First you fill up your system specs.
See your system specs and fill it up here.

► Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

I have been having steady stream of BSOD's served to me under a variety tasks. This has happened from when watching youtube clips, to being inactive, to using a word processor. I have updated my Video card drivers...etc, and I cannot seem to get to the source of the issue.

I have attached my DM log. Can anyone take a look?

A:BSOD in a variety of tasks, lots of different error messages

I can't see the wood for the trees.

1. Log in as administrator, open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Windows\Minidump
2. Delete all .dmp files in that folder
3. Run Driver Verifier as follows:

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Driver Verifier will cause your computer to run very sluggishly - this is normal. What it is trying to do is force your system to BSOD and isolate the offending driver/s. When it does, reboot, disable driver verifier, reboot as normal and upload the new dmp file/s here.

I recommend creating a system restore point before turning on driver verifier:
System Restore Point - Create

If your system fails to boot to desktop once driver verifier is enabled, turn it off by booting into Safe Mode:
Safe Mode

I keep getting duplicate emails,Ive reinstalled windows 7 and reinstalled Thunderbird as well but it is still doing it? I read on the knowledge database help section on Thunderbird that imap is used by default instead of pop which is what I originally set it up with.I'm using a different ISP now and still have the same problem. It must be coming from an email server but I don't know how to contact them or configure it? I'm at a complete loss on what to do about it now?

A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails
I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

Greetings Folk,

After major problems, I have imported several folders of DBX files. For whatever reason (please dont ask ) ) i have multiple back up folders with mostly duplicat info but with lots of non duplicate info in the various back up folders as well.

1 - How do i delete the duplicates.
2 - i seem to have lost my Outlook Express subfolders is there a way to reveal them if possible.

A:removing duplicate email in OE6

Hi Walterose

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Importing will do that, keep adding and adding with each subsequent Import performed.
I usually try an Import using a new Identity first to see what results I can expect, "NOW you tell me", you say

This is what I have found so far that relates to duplicate messages:
Not free though.

Subfolders created under the Inbox or other folders?
Do you have Outlook Express configured to show all folders?
Tools > Options > General tab
place a checkmark in: Automatically display folders with unread messages
Close Outlook Express, then restart, subfolders should be showing if they contain unread messages.

Do you have Subfolders at all?

You can also check the directory where your Store Folder is kept and see if you can locate the names of the folders that appear to be missing.
In Outlook Express
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab
click the Store Folder button to see the path where the Identity keeps its .dbx files.
Close Outlook Express.
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to that directory and search for those folders.

Or run a Search
key in:
and look through the Search results for your missing folders.

If you locate the missing folders and they are still not showing in Outlook Exp... Read more

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

A:Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

One of my users is having problems with email server timeouts and duplicate email. I'm assuming the two problems are realted. It started after he returned from a long vacation. I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

I am experiencing a siege of duplicate & triplicate email msgs. This happens sporadically but hasn't plagued me lately until just tonight. What's happening? Chuck Wilmot ([email protected])

A:Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

See microsoft knowledge base article Q296447

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?
