I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.
I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.
If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.
Please help.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

An unrecognized AC adapter will not charge the battery.
First try a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that's also not recognized, replace the DC power jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
If neither the new adapter nor the DC jack solves the problem, you've got a bad charge circuit - replace the mainboard.

Dear All,I have Lenovo Thinkpad T460S purchased almost a year ago. Today I suddenly faced problem in charging battery. Charger is plugged in and battery icon is showing "plugged in, charging" but actually it is charging very slowly. Normally battery is charged in one hour or so but today it took more than one hours to reach only 24% or so. Furthermore, soon after plugging in, battery icon shows "filling in process" for few seconds then stopped i.e no filling in process. Furthermore, after whole night charging, battery is now 94% charged, battery 2: 100% charged, fully charged; battery 1: 0% charged, not charging (please attached images). Please guide how to get rid of this problem?Thanking in advance. Shahid

Even though the battery message in both Windows 10 and Lenovo vantage shows "plugged in not charging", the system still slowly charge the battery till 100%. Hello, A few weeks ago, I set my battery thresholds to 75% -80% in order to increase my battery life. I was running Windows 10. I forgot about it. As I needed it for my work, I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on my laptop (L390 Yoga). However, I did the mistake to completely get rid of Windows. Now I have Linux only (Ubuntu). I installed TLP in order to try to change the battery thresholds but it doesn't have any effect. Thresholds stay the same. Did anyone have the same issue and found a solution? Thanks, Nico

Hi everyone,  I'm experiencing some weird things with my L380 Yoga. Since some days, when I plug in the 65W original charger, Windows gives me the notification "slow USB charger connected". Lenovo Vantage correctly sees the 65W charger and charging times looks normal (although I didn't properly check). On top of that, when I plug in the charger, the LED turns on and off randomly for the first minute or so (and also the charging icon in windows goes on and off accordingly), then it stabilizes and it stays on until I unplug the cable. Everything is updated, Airplane power mode is off. The laptop is not even a month old.  Thanks for the help!

It takes 3 hours to go from dead to full charge while using the computer...I would believe this to be normal while in use except that it has always done so in about half the time since I bought it in May 2015. Any reason as to why it has suddenly started taking so long to charge while in use?

Hi,

I wanted to how to avoid this battery damage. This is my second experience with this issue. One was with my first laptop Toshiba bought in US, which when using in EU and charging it with the same charger + adapter, the battery life decreased significantly. The battery would only last 20-30min or so. Where as before it was about 1h to 2hrs. The second one is with my current Macbook also bought in US and now using in EU. Same thing. I just changed the removable adapter on the charger and again full charge only gives me about 1h or so where before it would be 2-3hrs. Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

Hi All,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P50T-A-10U laptop and have replaced the internal battery and the charger with a brand new official Toshiba charger. The laptop needs 19V 6.3a and when plugged in with Windows XP, 7 and 10 all of which I have tried it just states plugged in and charging but the battery never goes up. I have replaced the internal battery with a new one and it was at 20% when I put it on and stated plugged in and charging but the animation on the taskbar for the battery only moves for a short time then stops. It too is now not charging and I now have 2 useless batteries.
I have attempted to update the BIOS from 1.10 which it is on to 1.90 but I cannot do this within any operating system or DOS as it always states Warning!! The System Power isn't safe for BIOS update. Please check AC and Battery are plugged in!!
The laptop clearly works from mains as it will do when I remove the battery. When I have got the battery to charge it works also without the charger but only for a short time obviously as it just isn't charging.
I want to force a BIOS update but the option does not appear to be available in AFLASH3.exe which is the official program on the CD when you create one after downloading the BIOS. I have tried everything and above error always appears.
I need to update the BIOS to rule it out as I have tried everything else.
Is this a motherboard issue as everything else works fine but it will only work long term from the mains.

All, my Inspiron 15 5000 15-5545 is having an error with the battery charger saying that it is not recognized and that the charger will not charge my computer.  I know that this is an official Dell charger (it is the charger that came with the laptop) - so there shouldn't be an identification issue.
I have noticed that there is a pin problem, however.  There are six pins in the laptop charging port (2 for charger identification in the middle and the four other pins that connect to the charger itself at the 3, 6, 9, and 12-o'clock positions).  Whenever I plug in my charger the pin at the 6-o'clock position gets bent upward towards the 2 identification pins.  This may also be bending the identification pins upward, but I am not sure because it looks like they are in the same place, just the 6-o'clock pin is not in the same place.
I believe that this may be the issue, and has this happened to many people before?  Is there a permanent solution to this?  Do I need to replace my charging port?

A:Inspiron 5545 AC charger not recognized (Battery plugged in, not charging)

It sounds likely there's damage to the DC port, yes.  You may want to try another adapter before replacing that.

Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

In the course of using my 13 (Type 20GJ, 20GK) Laptop (ThinkPad), my external battery charger got damaged. Part of the male end that goes into the computer to charge it has somehow split in half; as a result of this, it no longer fits into my computer and my computer doesn't charge.  So my questions are as follows:1) Instead an AC Adapter model # ADLX45DLC2A, could I temporarily use a replacement AC charger model # ADLX90NCC2A that is rated at a slightly higher amperage? Would using it cause problems for my computer? 2) If not, how would I go about getting a replacement AC charger? Thanks for responding to this in advance.

Hello. I have a plan to buy a T460 during the upcoming Christmas sales. I also want to buy an extra battery with it. As a business person who has to travel a lot, i would love to keep both of my batteries fully charged all the times. External battery chargers are hard to find and i, after a lot of search, found one. An old Lenovo support document (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht037009) shows a list of batteries that can be charged using that charger. But T460's Thinkpad 68+ 6 cell 72 Wh battery is not in that list. And, that doc says that i will need a 65W ac power adapter for charging. But T460 comes with 45W power adapter. So my questions are: 1) Can i charge T460's battery with the external charger? 2) Will 45W power adapter be enough or do i have to buy a 65W one? Thank you very much in advance for your time.

Win7 or Win10?  Probably the latter.

Is the latest Power Management Driver (for 7/10) installed?  Power Manager (for 7) installed?

Barring a defective battery or some other hardware issue with your P71 (and worst case, it's under warranty so you can call Lenovo to open a ticket and get a technician to come out and solve your problem with appropriate parts replacements, whatever it might be), it might be that the software is simply deciding not to "charge" because of a battery plan agenda or Registry values set so that no charging is occurring (under software control) even though you've now tried to drain it a bit so that it really should have reached its lower-threshold to reactivate charging.

I recently learned of a Registry hack to set the low/high limits in Win10 to match the customizable values for the Lenovo Win7 Power Manager (which does not exist in Win10).  After installing this REG file Win10 battery charging behavior will work like it does in Win7 with Power Manager, meaning there is your own low threshold value above which no charging occurs but below which charging once again kicks in.  And then charging continues until the upper threshold is reached at which charging stops (thus avoiding charging all the way up to 100%, but stopping below it... say at 96%).  Curiously, Win10 seems to reset the primary parameter values of the REG file whenever a Windows Update is applied (e.g. overnight) or on other unknown circumstanc... MTP Device, my guess would be "Media Transfer Protocol". The exclamation mark usually represents a driver that has not been successfully installed.

You can try downloading "Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit"

MTP was first shipped as part of the Windows Media Device Manager 10 SDK. This porting kit includes the complete MTP specification, updated design documentation, updated sample source code, software to implement a PC-based MTP simulator, and MTP test tools.Click to expand...

I was playing on my computer that I built 6 years ago, when it went into a random blue screen. The first time i started it up after the blue screen the normal black boot up screen was covered with equal signs, but all other screens were normal, as in asus motherboard screen/windows startup. However when i load into windows it was stuck on a 800x600 resolution. I reset the computer and then the equal signs were Exclamation marks, any ideas to what might cause this?
I have a Asus p6t mb and a 9800 gtx+ graphics card

Hello,I just joined the Forum.I have a Thinkpad R400 that has recently stopped charging its battery. More details.Model 74401 Gb disk, dual boot Win7 and LinuxMint 18.Recently upgraded RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb. New RAM is recognized. The "results" are the same with or with out Dock attached."AC Power Status" LED remains dark.New battery, former battery not charging either (old battery causes "Battery Status" LED to flash orange).New battery lights up Battery Status LED, and hovering over battery icon will show percentage of charge and not charging.New AC power supply, both new and old, read 20 volts DC at the yellow barrel connector. Will not boot by AC power supply only (battery removed, error message about low battery and powers off)I tried the AC and battery removed and 10 one second pushes on Power Button followed by holding Power Button down for 30 seconds, no change.I removed (under Win7) the Microsoft ACPI and Battery drivers under Device Manager. no change.Battery (new or old) does not charge when laptop is powered off and AC power supply connected. Problem may have begun several weeks ago when I closed the laptop without shutting down and put it in my backpack.A week or so later, its battery was dead when I pulled it out to use it again. Any ideas? Thanks,Fordy2

Hi all Both my external and internal battery of my X240 is not charging even though the charger is plugged in. None of the solution in this forum worked for me.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers under Battery in Device Manager.I tried reinstalling Power Management software. All of the above didn't work. I think the problem is my charger because I tried unplugging the external and internal battery but plugged only the ac adapter, the laptop couldn't boot up.  Is there any possibility (outside the battery, and which one?) that there is software fault or maybe the plug of the charger in the laptop broken?  please help anybody. I really need the laptop to write my thesis
