Q: XP crashes, Sygate crashes, Firefox crashes, avast! crashes - Infected?

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official troubleshooting guide (clean install, plug-ins disabled, extensions disabled) before conceding defeat and reluctantly going back to IE.

Twice last week avast! switched itself off while I was online, and refused to restart until the computer did.

I've been getting an abnormally high number of warning bubbles stating that Windows is low on virtual memory and is going to increase the virtual memory paging file.

And on top of all that, the taskbar clock in my account (but only my account) has reset itself to 24-hour time, and I have no idea how to change it back.

What is going on?

N.B.: I don't have access to a Windows boot disk.

Preferred Solution: XP crashes, Sygate crashes, Firefox crashes, avast! crashes - Infected?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My windows explorer crashes and restarts every time I perform some action (e.g., opening a file, moving a file, saving a file). I get the standard "windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to shut down; sorry for the inconvenience" message. In addition, trying to attach a file (mostly word documents) crashes the web browser - IE and firefox simply close, chrome gives an error message "plug-in crash - shockwave flash" and becomes unresponsive.

I very much appreciate your help.

I'll keep this short and sweet because I know how busy you guys are.
I built a gaming computer from scratch, there were a lot of problems even getting it working initially this time, as compared to the last one I built that I had zero problems with ever.
I am getting a lot of BSOD's, games freeze and crash, movies freeze and crash, and streaming does too. In addition, I am getting an error occasionally with the GPU that tells me it has timed out and reset the GPU. I used the windows recommended fix for this and set the response timeout time to 8 seconds, since I have done so I have only seen this problem once. I was wondering if I had too little power for my system, but I have seen threads with similar problems that have plenty of power. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and you should find all of the information you have asked for below. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else you may need. I truly appreciate what you guys are doing here for so many people.

IMO, the suggested fixes for the TDR timeout of the video card only conceals the problem - it doesn't fix it.If the card is timing out, then fixing the cause of the timeout is preferable (IMO) to just lengthening the timeout. Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software. Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help. Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuinePlease be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate. If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated). And here's the analysis... Thanks for listening, as my user name reflects I am now into stuff I'm ignorant about.

Had this computer a little over a year, I7 with 16gb of memory, windows 7 ultimate. etc

About a month ago, started seeing BSOD's. The BSOD would normally reflect "Memory Management" as the cause. Then the browsers started crashing, tried chrome, firefox and IE. Have removed and re installed all of them. I continue to received "windows has recovered" screens.

Was reading this thread, attempted the memory test via CD, it ran for several hours (actually alowed it to run all night. When I went to bed it was on test 8, the errors were moving from 0 to 32767. I got up this morning, same numbers, same test #. Seemed like it was stuck on that run even though the error numbers were still changing.

I have down loaded and ran who crashed. It's conclusion is :

12 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the... Read more

A:Browser crashes, windows crashes, memory test won't complete, BSOD

If Memtest86+ is showing up errors, then there are hardware issues present. It's just discerning what hardware is bad. Initial suspect obviously is memory, but the unusual case makes it think it's some logic error like some CPU failure or something. It's also possible that when burning it to CD that the Memtest itself got corrupted somehow (i.e. bad burn).

16 GB is a lot of memory on a consumer motherboard. There is the possibility that while your motherboard can handle 16GB of memory, that 16GB of the actual memory model that you're using may not be supported. Certain configurations of memory can have problematic issues. So while the memory sticks themselves may not be bad, the actual 16GB setup of them may break things.

Have you tested system stability with reduced amount of RAM, like 1/2 sticks of RAM, as well as running Memtest on a couple passes for each separate stick?

I have already begun a System Scan using sfc /scannow in Command Prompt...which just finished upon writing this up an Windows didn't find any "integrity violations"

I have NOT installed the latest Windows Updates only because I haven't gotten around to doing it. I have also read on other forums that Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be the culprit but I wanted to come here to verify that with you guys before I start messing with Windows essential applications.

What I will do in the meantime while waiting for an answer here is run a chkdsk and a virus scan(AVG).

Thanks in advance.

Are you running both AVG and MSE? If so, remove one or the other. Having two security programs that accomplish essentially the same tasks can cause conflicts due to them accessing the same system files or system resources simultaneously. It is possible this is the behavior that is causing your explorer.exe issue.

Okay, so I got this new computer (about 2 years ago LOL) but it crashed everytime I started it. So, I gave it to my kids... now I'm finally around to trying to fix it. It has Vista Home Premium. I've run all the updates. When It comes back on (in safe mode) it asks if I want to see why it crashed. It always comes back telling me I need to update my BIOS. So, I check the version... and it is up to date (I did actually DO the update once). It still crashes. I can't make a backup disk in safe mode from my partitioned portion of the hard drive. When I tried making the backup NOT in safe mode... yes, you guessed it... the system crashed. Someone please help me.

My son has Vista on his computer. Can I make a bootable recovery disk from his partioned portion on his hard drive? If so, how do I find my Windows Vista serial number?

I hope someone can please help me. I'll be patient... I've waited this long, what's a bit longer

Thanks All!!

Hi, I fear that my PC has become posessed by a 'PC SPRITE' or 'Computer Gnome'. This is now my fourth attempt to post this topic.Every time that I restart my system I will have from one to five generic hosts to crash. Internet Explorer has been freezing up and not responding. This has been happening fairly often. Sometimes only two or three times a day, but at other times it happens with every IE that is opened within just a few minutes. So far I have run Microsoft AntiSpy, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot Search & Destroy. All have came back clean. I have ran ewido, avast!, and Fix-It Utilities 5 anti Virus scans. All have came back clean.I ran Trend Micro's online scanned. It came back clean. I ran TrojanHunter. It came back clean. I ran CWShredder. It found and fixed > CWS.MSConfig < however, that little bugger has reapeared and been fixed twice more since then. It just keeps reapearing on it's own, so I'm not sure if I have actually killed it off or not.Something weired is happening with my sounds too. All of the system sounds have stopped working. I use an internet dictionary that has a pronunciation feature and it's sounds will work from time to time. All of the above is on an administrative account. There is one limited account on my PC, and when I signed onto it I pulled up Henery's severe weather video, It had sound! Hello all,

recently my windows xp(sp2) has just encountered a massive set of problems that all started appearing all at around the same time.
1. I cannot install/uninstall any programs, ANY programs, be it warcraft 3, firefox, or word processing applications or anything. What happens is the installer starts up, then when it starts to install or uninstall, it just hangs there completely.
2. Programs that are in use on the computer crash randomly. MSN messenger randomly crashes and just locks up itself and all conversation windows. IE sometimes hard locks itself without prior provocation. Firefox, ms word, windows media player... anything and everything hangs at random intervals.
3. Interestingly enough, when any program hangs, even taskmanager (ctrlaltdel) is unable to close the locked up program. It is stated there as not responding, but when i click end task either of two things happen: a) taskmgr ignores my request entirely b) taskmgr ITSELF hangs (the title says "windows task manager (not responding)"
4. Computer cannot shut down. Clicking the shut down icon on the windows menu lags the entire computer and the menu to restart shutdown or log off never appears. As a result i have taken to manually pulling the plug. Obviously this cannot continue.

I have avast4 which is updated and there doesn't seem to be any viruses or spyware. Also when a program hangs, it doesn't take up more cpu than normal; cpu usage always remains the same (around 0 to 10 for me)... Read more

Hey guys, I'm going on my 10th hour of trouble shooting here.

Started my PC this morning, went and opened Steam, then windows explorer crashed without a message (Task bar disappeared) and locked up my whole PC for about 5 seconds before the BSOD. Rebooted to install "WhoCrashed" to read the minidump. During this process, I went through about 6 other crashes of the same nature. It doesn't seem to be dependent on load, however, because it'll happen just sitting idle on the desktop too.

On the most recent crash, I noticed that around the same time explorer crashed, my Razer keyboard and mouse both died out, leaving me no control.

I just got a new graphics card (NVIDEA Geforce GTX 960 4GB) 2 weeks ago and it was all fine up until now, so I'm not sure if it's related. We put in a Coolermaster CPU cooler at the same time, new thermal paste, etc. and all temperatures are normal (about 90 degrees F, same as always). None of my temps are off from what they've been for the last 2 years, and I don't think I've ever had a BSOD on this custom PC.

Updated NVIDEA drivers from safe mode, started looking into Motherboard updates, but not applying any because I can't even tell what I have already. Everything is fine and dandy in safe mode.

So, please, for the love of all things holy, someone help me out here... I'm good with PC's but I'm at my witt's end here. Attached you should find the proper log and an image from Speccy. Had to take it with my phone beca... Read more

This happened recently after my sister downloaded something from the internet, and when I opened the folder to transfer it to her flash drive, a notification popped up telling me that, "Windows Explorer has crashed," and then it restarts (not the computer, just explorer. It sort of "refreshes" the desktop), then loads, and then crashes again.

I can still use my laptop normally from adjacent accounts, and when I tried deleting the file (the source of all of this, I'm assuming) it says that I need the permission of my main account, even though this account that I am currently using is also and administrator.

Can someone give me a little help? If there is none to be found I can use this side account for a while until something can be done, but it is incredibly inconvenient.

I am using Windows 7 currently.

Hi ibradh.

Update your ATI/AMD display driver to the latest WHQL.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Update relatek network driver from Realtek. Get the Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program dated 2013/11/26.

Update NETGEAR WNDA3100v2 N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter driver from Welcome to NETGEAR Support.

When an old computer crashes during games (BF4) we need to know the following information:

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

A:XP SP2: explorer.exe randomly crashes and always crashes when in folders

Have you done any recent updates or installed any new software to the computer?

Also, I would suggest downloading HiJackThis! and then including the log file in a post so that it can be looked at by one of the qualified agents here in order to help you out. Also you might try downloading and installing MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware and running it. I have found that program to be quite helpful in identifying potential OS issues.

If you are getting explorer.exe crashes as often as you say, then there may be more serious damage to your operating system that will potentially result in a clean reinstall.

If any of you have a radeon card (might apply to nvidia cards too) and you have been experiencing random crashes to desktop / reboots / VPU Recover windows ...Go into you r bios and change the vid card core voltage to 1.7v, if 1.7 doesnt fucntion, use 1.8. That should fix 95% of all of you crashing problems.

I had tried everything to fix these crashes, formatting HD, reinstalling windows...I even bought a new power supply. None of it worked but since i switched to 1.7v I have had no problems in any games and no crashes at all. It was set to the default 1.64v unbeknownst to be.

Anyways if youve tried everything like me...give it a try I think that it will fix it.

A:A FIX for random game crashes and Vid Card crashes!

Ummmmmmmmm... I'm sceptical... I think voltages generally aren't meant to be messed with... if you do, just know that you may run the risk of frying your card...
...right??? not all cards run on the same voltage, and if it's supposed to run on something lower, it could get fried, right?? and then if it's supposed to run higher than that, MAYBE some bugs would get fixed, but wouldn't the card also run slower??

Which radeon card do you have anyway?

EDIT actually, it looks like the standard voltage for AGP cards is 1.5v... upping the voltage will (I believe) up performance a little, as well as heat generated. Too high a voltage, however, will result in BSODs and the like.

My issue has to do with basically every internet browser I have and Nvidia Geforce Experience.  Whenever I open chrome and opera, both of them crash instantly.  Additionally, whenever I open firefox and edge and go to certain pages such as get.adobe.com or opera.com/download, the websites crash.  On IE, it does basically the same thing; the only difference is that I go to the webpage it generally crashes on and it says IE stopped responding, but IE is still loading the webpages and I can still add a new tab!  Also, after getting an alert yesterday from Geforce Experience that a new video card driver was available, I clicked on the alert, only to have a window pop up saying that it crashed.  I tried to open Geforce Experience again.  Crashed again.
After trying to use a system restore point from October 18, 2016 (before I had this issue) I still had this problem.  A Microsoft support rep said that it is most likely a virus.  I did have trend micro officescan installed at the time, however, but i'm guessing some viruses can get past your security.
The only change I can remember is installing MSI Afterburner.  I may have downloaded a thing or two, but only used trusted sites to download from (Cnet, Opera, sourceforge).
As a last resort, I tried to used Darik's Boot and Nuke using a USB drive that I used Universal USB Installer with to put the DBAN iso on there... Read more

HI there i have noticed recently that i have been getting odd explorer.exe restarts whenever i go to Control Panel-System & Security-Windows Update. After clicking windows update explorer will say it needs to restart and go ahead and restart itself. The problem is that it is completely random when it happens. I can't reproduce it 100% of the time. I thought it might be a memory problem but i ran memtest for 13 hours and no errors came up. I ran a chkdsk and sfc /scannow and both also returned no errors. I have disabled all non-microsoft shell extentions as well and that still hasn't stopped the issue. It doesn't bluescreen or even cause any other issues from what i can tell and i can continue using everything afterwards just fine and even go into the Windows Update without it crashing. It only seems to get messed up after a reboot. I also haven't been able to install any Windows SDK to check the dmp file myself.

Now a new problem i have been having is with the Witcher 2. During cutscenes the computer will lock up and my monitor will return "No Display" but my computer will remain on. I can't ctrl+alt+del or do anything. I thought it might be my temps but my gpu was registering 71c and my cpu was registering 42c. I have to hard reset everytime.

These are the errors i get in eventviewer when explorer crashes.

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

I looked through a few similar threads, but none seem to be the same problem, so here goes...

I recently bought a new computer with XP pre-installed. I installed Office 2000 professional. This worked fine on my old computer under 98, but now it has lots of problems. My fav program ever written, Photodraw crashes upon startup, Frontpage crashes on Saves and Excel does whatever the hell it likes with my data. All other programs work fine so I'm assuming its not the hardware that has the problem.

When I got the computer it had Word 2000 and Works Suite already installed. I didn't remove these before installing office.

I was going to uninstall Office [and Word] and Works and then try installing office again. Will I be wasting my time? Does anyone know what exactly is going on?

Indeed, things are a bit of a mess at present. Like I said, my MSN browser seems largely unaffected (which leads me to believe it's spyware or malware) MSN is affected in two main ways : Some shopping websites don't do anything when I hit the "next page" buttons. (Has ActiveX been partially disabled?) Also, when I attempt to download patches or any new freeware, I hit the "Download Now" button, I'm sent to the next page, which usually says "Thanks for downloading [whatever]" but no download has occurred.
IE does not "crash" until I attempt to open my favorites. If I simply click on an article on my homepage, everything continues normally. Interestingly enough, after I get the crash message in IE, I can close the message, and another window pops up stating that there is an error and IE will now close. There is an "OK" button on this second window. Until I click "OK," IE doesn't close and functions more or less normally with the same "quirks that are occurring in MSN.
This all began about three days ago. In the few days that preceded this change in my computer's behavior, 3 things of significance happened. In order, they are:
First, upon start-up (but not EVERY time), I began to receive a message stating that a certain webpage couldn't be opened. Sometimes the name is different, but it's always something inappropriate. I'm sure it's just spyware. I thought I'd eliminated it... Read more

Win 7 and Skype 6.3 just plain hate each other. I cannot get that thing to install with crashing my machine. I recently looked through the Registry and found dozens (at least) of entries for Skype. I've tried to install Skype both with and without ZoneAlarm running - it makes no difference - everything crashes during the Skype install.

Regarding the Skype entries in the Registry - is there a liklihood this is what's crashing Skype, and do those entries have to be deleted. and if so, how?

Before Christmas I started getting browser and sometimes PC crashes. At first it seemed to be browser related. But the PC would also crash when idle. I tried disabling add- ons in Firefox and opening in safe mode. Tried using Chrome but it would crash with the message that Flash had malfunctioned. Then I started getting Stop messages and BSODs. (I hadn't installed and new hardware and, I don't think, installed any new big programs except for updates to existing ones.)
I emailed a few of the mini dump files to a friend. He said they didn't specify which drivers were causing the problem. But it might be something to do with the video or the network card. I rolled back drivers. No change. I updated drivers and uninstalled lots of programs. For a month everything seemed stable. Then the BSODs started to return. Infrequently at first but then more regularily. Sorry the story is a bit confused but it is difficult to remember every detail of what happened and the order I did things in.
The event viewer says that they are either error 1003 or 1001. Would someone be able to look at the recent minidump files and see if they specify any particular drivers? Or suggest any other steps I can take to cure the problem?
Thanks, John

Randomly when I am using my computer (Acer Extensa 5620Z laptop, Windows XP Pro SP2) I get the Microsoft Error report box saying Windows Explorer encountered a problem and needed to close and prompts me to send the error report to Microsoft. After I click Send or Don't Send (doesn't matter which one), I get another prompt saying Dr Watson encountered an error and needed to close.

Everything then locks up - Start Menu won't open and programs won't minimize or maxmize from the taskbar.

When this first happened I tried to use Task Manager to start explorer.exe again, it didn't work. I checked in the processes tab and explorer.exe was still listed. I tried to End Process on it and it stayed there. I then noticed that drwtsn.exe (might not be 100% correct) is listed, if I End Process on it, explorer.exe closes (Taskbar and start button dissapear) and I can then run explorer.exe again to fix it. Don't know if that helps at all.

I have run fullsystem scans with Windows Defender and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 multiple times and both found nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

What a great Forum.

I use AVAST Free, on my PC, and it seems to work just fine.

My son also installed it at my suggestion, but says he had to remove it as it "caused crashes, slowing down,...etc." I have no idea why. We both run W7.

He now uses, only, Windows Defender, but says, for whatever reason, that he doesn't have much confidence in it.

Might anyone, please, suggest another, hopefully free "good" anti virus program that he can try ?

Much thanks,

Microsoft Security Essentials is good if your looking for a free solution.

For a paid solution with many more features, Norton is excellent.

In regards to whats the best choice, it really depends on the user and how often they may tend to find themselves in questionable situations .. if that makes sense.

Someone who is cautious, does regualr maint. on thier PC, and watching for potential threats will be perfectly fine with a free solution.

Others who do not know, do not care, or click every link they see even in thier mailbox, just to see what it is will be far better off with a paid solution that offers much wider range of protection.

Hello. I'm having an issue that seemed to start after downloading JoytoKey from Cnet. Initially, it attempted a taskkill.exe command that I closed immediately. It also attempted a reboot, but I was able to cancel that as well. I've already deleted the downloader/installer, but I believe I still might be infected with something. I've run Malwarebytes and that didn't detect anything. I did Avast's boot-time scan and it did catch some PUPs and Trojans. I tried to download something via downloader (not from Cnet) and Avast crashed again. I just want to be sure that whatever virus got into my system via downloader is gone.

I also don't know whether to post a DDS log or not, but I'm going to keep it to myself until it's needed.

Thanks for looking into this.

Hello,I will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while I assist you. Some points for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs, unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Butt... When I boot my computer up, then explorer.exe immediately crashes. When I use task manager to try to run explorer.exe, the moment I click "New Process" task manager stops responding, freezes, and eventually closes. I also tried running window's in safe mode(my desktop icons weren't there, I'm not sure if that's supposed to be like that in safe mode) and using cmd to open explorer.exe. Explorer.exe runs and opens, cmd does not crash, but the task bar is frozen. When this problem first occurred, I was ending unnecessary processes with task manager, and I accidentally ended a system process. I do not remember what process it was sadly, or else I would try running it again with cmd in safe mode. I tried reboot many times, but it still doesn't work. Please solve my problem soon. Thank you.

P.S. If you need any more information about my problem, post here and I'll try to provide you with what you ask for, if it's in my ability.

I'm trying to clean up a laptop for somebody, so I installed Avast as permanent anti-virus for them, Ad-Aware to scan for.. adware. And spybot too to do a scan with. (not tea-timer or sd-helper). I was only going to keep ad-aware and spybot on to do scans with and then remove.

After rebooting the laptop, it will crash while trying to load the taskbar (taskbar locks up with mouse loading icon, though mouse can still be moved). I can only guess that Avast and either ad-aware or spybot are both trying to load up at once and conflicting with each other.

I've never had this problem before, then again it quite a while ago since I used these programs. My first thought was 'Aha! fix it in safe mode!' but.. safe mode blue screens after a few seconds booting up.

Perhaps is there a way I can stop avast or ad-aware from starting up by editing a file? I can access files on the laptop using a linux live disk if I need to.

I was running two 3D games. One was in STEAM and it crash 2x in the same general area of a mission. The other was a browser based game using Unity that failed to load in IE.

Avast! gave me this warning during a scan being done by MalwareBytes:

Threat detected A0052585.dll

It's been awhile since I've dealt with an infection on my home machines.

This happens in Safe Mode and with both browsers I have. Firefox and IE.

I just don't seem to find anything to lead me to the area to solve this problem.

Event viewer does not really put in the area or file that must be missing or corrupt.

I have scanned with Spy-Bot and other virus software and use Microsoft Essentials.

Is it only Firefox that crashes? Boot into safe mode with networking and see if it crashes. Also you can run Firefox in safe mode.

I have been getting IE6 and Firefox crashes on a regular basis
The crashes only occur when I access Pogo website. I must get at least
15-20 java crash logs a day....all different hs_err_pid #'s but the
HotSpot and Problematic frame are always the same.

I have no knowledge about hs_err_pid errors and sun website
offers no help whatsoever....I'm computer literate but I'm no tech
so I decided to do my own research and try to resolve this, but all
my attempts have failed, as the problem still persists....I am at my
wits end....which brings me here...hoping somebody could help
me....I've exhausted all my attempts....here's a brief recap of my
failed attempts. system info, java crash logs and hijack scan.

I appreciate anyone that will take a look.....thanks!

Here are 2 different hs_err_pid crash logs (most recent)
