Console Audio Configuration Question

Q: Console Audio Configuration Question

Well, it's just a thought I've had that since it's possible to connect a console to a PC monitor such as an HDMI-DVI connector for a PS3 for example, what about a way to play the sound through PC speakers? I ask this because not only would I be able to output a better resolution than my SDTV with my PC monitor, but I'm hoping to get better sound too if I could use my 2.1's since they're only a couple feet away (5.1's if I use it at home, 2.1's at the college dorms).

Thank you for any suggestions

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

Thank you in advance.

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

my computer's sound has stopped. I have searched through lots of websites looking for help.
I first noticed this problem when I tried to open iTunes and it came up with the message 'iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly'. I also cannot listen to music or things online either.
I have looked at my computer's device manager and can't find any catergory such as 'sound, video and game controllers', which one site suggested to try and check the sound card. I have also tried to update quicktime but that did nothing. I have also tried looking at 'sound' and under both the playback and recording columns it says that there are no audio devices installed. THis appears to be the common phrase along a problem with the audio configuration.
This has not ever happened to my computer before and I have had it for about 3 years now. It is a toshiba laptop with windows 7 home premium.
Please help guys, I am really frustrated.

A:Audio configuration no audio output devices?

If its not being detected at all in the Device Manager, it will not show up anywhere else.

When you boot up your PC, enter the BIOS (could be called "Setup") and check to see if the sound is disabled. If it is disabled in the BIOS it will not show up in Windows. If its showing as enabled in the BIOS, do a BIOS reset (to factory setup) and see if that makes a difference.

If its not disabled in the BIOS there is a chance the hardware has failed.

Hey guys,

Prior to formatting my computer my soundcard and its software worked perfectly however after i formatted, my creative audio console doesnt really work properly. For example. Before if i adjusted the master volume in the audio console, it would synronise and adjust the volume in the default windows sound mixer now it doesnt. Secondly before if i plugged in headphones the sound would autmatically go through the headphones and mute the speakers. Now if i open the console and go to the headphones section, I have mute speakers checked and automatically enable headphone settings checked and if i plug in my headphones, sound still comes out of speakers but if i press test in the audio console, the test lady voice comes through the headphones whilst other sounds still continues through the speakers. I have reinstalled the drivers twice now and updated the drivers. Please help.

If you can afford it I would suggest changing your sound card to a HT Omega Claro.

I am re-posting my old thread from several months ago about it here.

I had a Creative Audigy Platinum EX sound card which worked great for the 6-7 years I have owned it. (running Win XP)
BUT when I re-built my PC about 6 months ago I lost a lot of the bells and whistles, I did manage to get it to "work" with the 4.1 Logitech speakers I have and it was "sufficient".
Recently I found out that one of those bells and whistles was I could no longer use head phones.

I found this out after buying a nice Sennheiser PC350 Headset (which btw is outstanding for anyone looking an all around head phone Gaming, Music, VOIP).

After researching sound cards for Vista 64 pretty extensively I came up with a sound card that works flawless with Vista 64 plus sounds superb in every way.

HT Omega - Claro halo

With the headset I seriously doubt there is another sound card that can touch it.
It makes these Sennheiser's really stand out and milks every last drop of performance from them.
When I hook these up to my wife's PC (standard Dell Dimension 9150 with some SigmaTel audio which must be just a sound chip) they sound a bit ordinary at best, nothing is as crisp, the bass is no where close to as booming, actually they are disappointing.
I hook them up to the HT Omega Halo and BAM its like they are a different set of head phones.
This is because of 2 things the Sennheisers are a mid rang... Read more

I have recently bought a Samsung monitor to use with my Xbox 360 Slim and I noticed that it doesn't play audio. I have searched some stuff about TOSLink cables and receivers but I don't want to have to spend too much money to listen to sound with my Xbox. $300 is a bit costly to listen to sound.

I want to know if there is an easy and cheap way of connecting my Xbox 360 Slim to speakers. (Preferably using digital audio but not essential.)

Does anyone know how I can do this?

In the XP Recovery Console tutorial it was said that,
"In many cases when you have XP pre installed on your computer the Recovery Console will not recognize your Administrator's password. In these situations it is possible to edit a registry setting so that the Recovery Console does not ask for a password."

I am assuming that editing the registry must be done when Windows is in the various safe mode modes or has started up in normal or diagnostic modes. What if I can't get into Windows or any safe mode and are using the XP cd to get into the Recovery Console to modify the Boot.ini file for boot configuration and recovery? Are there any alternatives to a complete cleaning if the aforementioned password stituation arises?

I did search for info on this topic, but only found the tutorial, which explains installing the recovery console in NTLDR using the XP disk.

I'm wondering, specifically, how combofix manages to download (or update) and install the recovery console on the fly. I've haven't found anything online regarding a downloadable option, except for ISO images.

So, I'm really curious how combofix manages this, exactly what it _is_ managing (is it downloading the whole thing, or simply installing it from a limited set of files, and checking the web for updates?), and how I might replicate this functionality outside of combofix. I'd really like to roll out the recovery console to my domain workstations just as I would any other standard software installation.

I have not yet bitten the bullet and installed Sp2, but have been reading the MS info about what to do (and especially what to do if something goes wrong). One of the articles advises using the Winxp Recovery console to remove Sp2 if the install goes badly. My question is simply this: The Recovery console always ask for a password. I am using a standalone computer. I am the only person using it (so I guess I am the administrator.) I do NOT have a password. How does this effect using the recovery console?
edit- Also, if and when I install Sp2 should I disconnect my DSL (always on) internet connection while installing?

A:question about Recovery console and Sp2

Interesting question, it depends of course on what you are thinking of installing it from, the Internet or cd, if the Internet then you cant turn off your connection of course, but if from a CD then I would turn of everything I could including firewall and anti-virus as there are so many instances of this thing causing problems when installed.....whatever you choose Good Luck .......

Dont think you will need the recovery console most people remove it via add/remove and System Restore if needs be

[ background
Having just spent several days swapping between Recovery Console and Symantec/PartitionManager in trying to sort out disk problems, I sought out a note on installing the recovery console and found your excellent tutorial.

As it happens, I will not in this instance add a new partition as my current problem is very delicately balanced
a] I don't want "drive" references and "partition" settings to change.
b] since you need a good bootsector on the active partition before the boot.ini file is picked up, the whole thing seems to be of limited use in a one-disk system

I am still struggling with the precise terminology [drive device volume partition] used especially in Microsoft Help and also with the lack of explicit descriptions when it comes to context on key commands [fixmbr fixboot bootcfg map ...]

Just when I think I understand,
I see the phrase for FIXMBR "Repairs the startup partition's master boot code. "
The argument "variable device" is, if I understand correctly something like: a "disk drive" or "volume".
However, I thought there was only one set of master boot code per volume and that finds a partition area (the active/boot one) and loads the code from that partition's bootsector and then executes that.

Shouldn't FIXMBR talk in terms of (BIOS-selected) boot-device and its MBR (or MBsector?) and a description should clarify if the MBR is only changed with respect to its cod... Read more

Hi !
My problem is this:
I have a slipstreamed XP Pro CD with sp2, but it doesn't have the recovery console as an option when booted from ?
Instead it goes directly to setup.
Now, from what i understand, this CD lacks the recovery console files also.
(It's about 7 mb worth of files)
Now, i have a recovery console XP home standalone version, it's a 7 mb
iso that only contains the recovery console and it works fine to access
XP Pro installations with.
Now, i was wondering, how do i incorporate this with my sp2 CD?
What i want to know is which file is it that i have to edit to "add" this
functionality ?
I tried to inject the RC files (without replacing anything) but then the CD asks me to insert the XP Home CD when booted from ?
The reason i'm doing this is because i wanna be able to copy the right
files if the need ever occurs.

Also, i have tried to simply copy the i386 folder from my Pro CD to the
RC stand alone, and yes, that works, but i wanna incorporate it directly to the sp2 CD if possible.
Many thanks for your suggestions.

A:Solved: Recovery console question

I found the answer elsewhere.
The reason my sp2 CD went directly to setup was because there's an unattended
switch in the winnt.sif file.
I simply deleted it and now my CD gives me all the options when booted from.

So my windows installation crashed, and i borrowed a friends gateway Windows XP pro cd (i dont own a gateway computer, i dont know if this matters) but i put it into the drive and boot from CD

Then i select recovery console, but it tells me that windows cannot find any harddrive attached to my system. i realized that I have a maxtor PCI card connected to my harddrive, so i download the drivers online and install them using f6 when the windows cd boots up. The windows recovery console then loads, gives me the "windows xp recovery console blah blah.." but then doesnt show a list of available windows installations, but just gives me a C:\> prompt.

I try a CHKDSK, but it says the disk appears to be fine, and then i try a BOOTCFG \SCAN, but it doesnt come up with any results (i forget what it said, something about no windows installations maybe)

What should I do? my goal was to write over the corrupt windows boot files, but whenever i try i get "access denied"

I freshly installed Win 7 Pro 32-bit on Sunday and have been tweaking, installing, testing, and personalizing. So far, everything's gone perfectly until - of course! - my very last software app, Exact Audio Copy.

When converting ripped wav files to .mp3, EAC has the option of displaying a user-chosen external compressor window, in this case, lame.exe. Halfway through compressing a wav file, the Windows Console Host will crash and display an error message. If I click the "X" in the corner of the popup, the popup and compressor window will vanish and the compressor will resume work... until the next ripped wav file. Setting EAC to not display the compressor window does not crash the Console Window Host. I also have no crashes when using any other command window, most notably [email protected]

A:Console Window Host crash in lame.exe/Exact Audio Copy

I have a recording studio. However, for ripping CD's I use the free Audiograbber (and have Lame installed). It will rip to wav or MP3, and even Karoke CD-G's.

I've ripped marginal (scratched, etc) discs with Audiograbber (something exact audio copy says it will do).

This does not solve the problem with the program you are using, but an option. Audiograbber, free CD ripper, mp3 encoder and audio recorder for Windows

One other thing to consider, since you have a 32 bit OS, what other programs do you have open when you are running the exact audio copy? Too many applications open or running and it may be a (lack of) memory problem.

Hi.. i have my XBOX 360 placed vertically right beside my PC as there's not much space to place it horizontal there as well as im using PC ans 360 with the same LCD Monitor. Personally i also like it in Vertical position coz i have easy access to place the disc in + attaching the cables and inserting USB in it. Also in Summer season the ceiling fan spins and throw the air on the floor which travels nicely on the both sides of the console over the floor rather than getting hot on the bottom when placed horizontal. Now lets jump on the real question!!! last year my 360's 60GB HDD died and i recently bought a used 20GB HDD from a guy. The guy had painted his console and the HDD case so when i bought the HDD i decided to change the HDD case with the one i have from 60GB. I replaced the cases successfully but during replacing i noticed that Microsoft put the HDD upside down in the case/enclosure. So it means im using my 360 vertically and the HDD case is on the top which is holding the HDD in upside down position so is it normal to use it in that postion?

A:Marvell 91xx SATA 6G, RAID console question

Marvell does not provide drivers direct. They are only available to the manufacturer such as Asus which provides them to consumers.

I would not trust the French site. It may not even be the right driver or could have malware added.

The download MS is offering is an update to your current Asus software.

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to posting online. Read a thread by someone else posted 2/22 about connection of webcam with no audio/video. I have installed the Creative Live! Cam Voice on my sister's computer and my mother's, they both have broadband connection with Comcast, everything went smooth and works great. Now I'm installing on my own and having video/audio problems. Video test is good, but black screen when trying to connect through Skype, with internet connection via Satelite (Gotsky). Audio is good for 3 sec then becomes choppy, intermiitent and synthesized sounding. Contacted my satelite service company and inquired about bandwidth, they said I am at the highest and shouldn't have a problem. Contacted Geek Squad about the possibility of needing a different sound card and the person I talked to said that he has seen many connections work with sounds cards lesser than mine. Contacted my wireless router support and we opened ports for connectivity, didn't help. Per a different site blogging post, I made sure my windows UPnP was enabled. I am on XP home. Tested audio record and playback with the headset had positive response, although amplified synthesized sounds as well. Hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

Hi. I'm using XP - but am not familiar with the sound system at all. My young son enjoys messing around with the AC97 Audio Configuration - which he accesses from the 'Sound Effect' icon on the toolbar. On his own computer (also using XP) the default playback device is Realtek AC97 Audio but he doesn't have an icon to access the audio configuration window. I'm assuming it's on his computer somewhere and I just don't know how to access it and create an icon. If anyone could tell me how to do so I'd be very grateful.... sorry if this is a duncey question - my son is autistic and very persistent when he wants something! Thanks!

A:AC97 Audio Configuration

Its usually only available if the implementation of the drivers for the particular chipset include it in the drivers.
At this location one PC has it as the chipset specific drivers include it, the other two do not as its not part of their drivers.

The AC97 is the audio "codec", it's implementation may differ (as will the functions offerred) according to the motherboard makers specific drivers.

I recently had some repairs done on my computer and my sound on some devices like WINAMP, and recording playback and most everything else relating to audio is now scratchy --irritating .

My repairs involved reinstalling windows and my motherboard has the sound card installed on it ----OOPS I am using windows xp .
I noticed in the system tray, that I have something there NOW called " c- media 3d audio configuration ", which i never had
before . could this be the possible cause of my problems ----It does not seem to do any thing except raise or lower volume .
I wanted to try to disable it and see if this gets things back to the way they were.
Is this device necessary and if not how can I disable it.

Thanks you for your help----- Ralph

A:C-media 3d audio configuration in systray

Generally not necessary.
It can be disabled by opening your " c- media 3d audio configuration " program (either in the Start->All Programs list, or in Control Panel)

I say generally because if Sound suddenly stops working you can just re-enable it.

Another option is Startup Control Panel, where you can also untick this startup (including any other not required startups).

Mind you I don't believe this will fix the fault. It may be a matter of re-confirming that you have the most up to date driver installed.

I posted this question before, sorry, but I realized that it was horribly worded and that might have been why I have gotten no advice.

A:[SOLVED] I need help fixing a problem with my audio configuration

hi, are you sure that the sound was not accidentally muted. go to control panel, choose sound speech and audio, choose your sound device, go to the volume section and make sure it is not muted. then go to the audio tab at the top and make sure there is a sound device active.

also you can try a system restore. go to start, all program, accessories, system tools, system restore. and restore pc to a date it was working and waite for setup to finish.
also you can try another speaker to check if sound is comming. the last option would be is to reinstall the drivers again or purchase a new sound card which is fairly cheap.

I get an error message when I open Itunes. It says "Itunes has detected a problem with audio/video configuration..." and that the audio video may not play correctly.

I have uploaded some cd's to Itunes and I have noticed the sound has skips in it.

Also, my daughter wanted to open some pictures from a disc but the disc wouldn't work. I took the disc to work and opened the pictures fine.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 running XP. I do not have any other problems with the machine.

Are there diagnostic programs that I might try to correct this problem, or do I need to replace the cd drive?

When I plug a computer microphone into the mike jack of my new Acer T135 computer, two programs pop up - one called Jack-Sense, which tells me I have mistakenly plugged a speaker into my mic jack, and the other is AC97 Audio Configuration, which tells me the same thing.

And the mike won't work. I've tried the Sound Recording program that comes with XP, and also Adobe Audition, and I can't record with the mike.

What can I do?

Try turning off both the headphone and line jack when the Jack-sense program comes up.

This is just a quick tutorial so you can get the most out of a 2.1 speaker configuration, I was helping a member out on a different forum since he was asking if there was a Realtek HD Audio Manager option for 2.1 speakers and I thought this tutorial might be helpful if you guys want your 2.1 speaker setups to sound better. From doing this tutorial the bass coming from your sub wont have a bunch of static when you're blasting your speakers and from doing this everything will sound more clear when you're playing music at a low or high volume. Just open up Realtek HD Audio Manager and copy these settings from the screen shots I took on my computer.

this is nice but it should have been posted here Techspot's Guides and Tutorials

Ok. It seems that the green output plug is broken, because all of the sudden it only sends audio to the left speaker. So...

1. I plugged my speakers into the blue input
2. Changed the behaviour of it to output audio, in the realtek audio manager
3. Worked fine!

But after shutting down or restaring the PC, the selected behaviour goes back to normal and I have to manually configure it from input audio to output audio.

What can I do? Please help

A:Realtek audio in/out plugs don't keep configuration after restarting

Perhaps you have damaged your sound system by over-driving the unit. Do you have replaceable parts.

I am using Win 7 Home Basic - SP1 (64bit) Vaio laptop with ATI Radeon HD 5145 graphics/audio card. When I plug it in to my home theatre through HDMI there is only a 2.0 sound configuration, there is no option for 5.1 or Surround sound configuration.

My home theatre is a Samsung HT-X70 (its capable of dts-hd 5.1 and Dolby Digital). How can I configure the HDMI to 5.1? Appreciate any help, I have spent full week to make it work but am all lost.

More Details:
1. I have already made HDMI Digital output as default playback setting (see attached snapshots)
2. Tried reinstalling drivers for HDMI sound, but still the option wont come
3. Tried installing Realtek Media Center from CNet (link) but this wont install on my laptop giving "No driver was support in this package" error.
4. And no, I dont have that Realtek Media center UI which people recommend to use for changing this configuration. I have tried installinbg Realtek's hidef codecs realse 2.65 and 2.67. 2.65 wont install giving "No driver was support in this package" error (as mentioned in #3). 2.67 installs but nothing changes on the system and no media center is installed either

I just bought a 2GB DDR2-667 for my laptop. I originally had two 1GB DDR2-533. My question is this, should I go for the faster 2GB or slower 3GB option?
Note: FSB speed is 667 MHz.

Benchmarking tools gave me inconclusive results. Any one can suggest a good memory benchmark? Anyways the comparison I got was using Everest.

I think this is a dumb question but is there any reason my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P MBO will work at 32 bit but not at 64 bit? If I configure at 32 bit it works fine but when I go to 64 bit it gives me all kinds of strange problems. My OS is Win 7 Home Premium. I want to use 64 bit because I have 8GB of memory. I've tried this several times and can't make it work successfully.

A:MBO configuration question.

Well, it could depend on exactly what "strange problems" occur, so lets start there. Can you give a list of what issues you are having when you try to run Windows 7 64-bit.

This should be simple, but I cannot find details on whether or not this is possible.   What I want (end-state) is a P51 with the 256Gb SSD as the boot drive and the 500Gb spinning drive as the data drive. When I look at the ordering page, I can get both those drives, but there is no way to specify the SSD as the boot drive.  Alternatives are:1. Buy the P51 with just the 500Gb non-SSD, install something like a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD myself, migrate/reinstall Win10 from the non-SSD to the SSD, and tell the BIOS that the SSD is now the boot drive.Pro - cheaper.Con - more effort and there's always hiccups finding the right drivers.Assumption - the P51 supports the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD as a boot drive.2. Buy the P51 with just the 256Gb SSD (so it's automatically the boot drive), then buy another 2.5" SSD or non-SSD drive (and the associated caddy kit from Lenovo) and install that.Pro - no reinstall issues.Con - More expensive since I need to buy the larger data drive ($80-$100 and it's free in option 1), plus the Lenovo SSD is about $90 more than option 1. So, can I specify the SSD as the boot drive if I order the P51 with two drives, or do I have to go to alternative 1 or 2? If so, which one is generally recommended? Have I missed something critical? Thanks, ~rick

I have an unallocated 1Mb partition as the first partition (according to Easus) on my laptop drive, in addition to the recommended reserved, system and EFI partitions. Could this extraneous partition be the reason for my inability to restore from an image backup? (Restores fail after making my laptop unbootable)

A:GPT configuration question

No - this partition is only to ensure partitions are properly aligned (especially for ssds).

There is something wrong with your image backup.

Do you have more than one hard drive installed?

Hi guys, some quick questions about LAN IP configuration:

I have a DSL modem has an ethernet port, and a USB port, to allow for a second computer to connect to the internet. However, I have a netgear 4 port switch LAN/WLAN router, of which I connect one desktop computer to the ethernet port, my laptop using the WLAN, and one computer connected using USB (through modem, not router). Thus, the last computer has a different IP address (assigned by DSL company). My other two computers have IPs assigned by the router, thus, are able to share through Itunes...

...Which leads me to the question: is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa, as I want to allow my Itunes music to be accessible on all three computers. Thanks in advance, and happy thanksgiving.

p.s. I know you're wondering: but you have three more switches on the router, why not use it..well, this last one doesn't have LAN card.

A:ip configuration question

What you should of done is connect all the comptuers to the LAN ports on the router (except the laptop) and share internet connection that way. As far as iTune, you might need to open up the port in the firewall software on your router (check the manual for more details).

Q: "is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa?"
A: No

Network cards are very cheap now, you should use that. Much faster than USB.
