I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay so yesterday I downloaded something, it turned out to be fake. But that wasn't all I logged into my runescape account and somehow they manually turned off my computer and went on my account and stole everything, but that's not the problem.

I had Microsoft Security Essentials and it didn't do anything. I got alot of help after that, people told me I had a rat and they told me to download malwarebytes and AVG. I did that, it said I removed everything but I'm not so sure. How can I be SURE that everything is gone?

I apologize, but you will most likely first notice how long this opening post is. I've dealt with BSOD for quite a while now and I've decided to search for help.. So, I've come to you guys. I've done a lot of research on the problem so I'll throw out some of my ideas.

The Problem:
I can't seem to play semi-graphic intensive video games for no longer than 15 minutes (games such as Counter-strike:source, BF2, Half-life 2 etc). My computer will freeze momentarily, go black, and then proceed to the Blue screen. It used to be that I would recieve an "IRQ not less than or equal" error, but now my BSOD crashes remain just blue, no error codes, 'nuttin'. Now, when I play less intensive graphic games such as regular Counter-strike 1.6, I can go for a few hours before it crashes.

Some Ideas
Because my computer seems to do a bit better on less graphic intense games, I'm wondering whether it may be a heat issue. More stress = more heat = less time till BSOD? I'm not sure, I'm not a computer guru, but I know a little.
Here are my temps: CPU 51C/123F (55-57C under stress)
MB 34C/93F

I did some research, and I learned maybe that power could play a part in problems with BSOD? My PS is one that came with my computer case and I believe it is 350w. It's not the greatest in the world. Idk if i could be gettin too little power and the games may cause it to crash.

Hi Ben,

Take a look on the side of your power supply and tell us the brand name, wattage, and how many amps on each rail. That should help because you have some things on your power supply that don't seem quite correct.

Also, just for kicks, download this free program and tell us the temps, the voltages, and the fan speeds. That should help:

Hello experts and fellow Windows 8 users,

I am running the Windows 8 OS and currently having terrible mouse lag. My mouse will run fine for about 20 seconds-ish and then stall for a good 1-2 seconds. This can be incredibly annoying, especially when I am in my gaming mode (sc2 shout out). Any idea as to how to fix this? I use duel monitors and have tried reverting back to one, didn't fix anything, all drivers are up to date, and I have also searched the internet for numerous answers. None seem to work so far.

Mouse specs:
Wireless USB mouse, Logitech LAZER. I know it is for fact not the batteries as I have replaced them 2x to see if that was the case, and also, buying a new mouse did not resolve my problem.

Any and all help is appreciated and thank you good people for helping out!

PS: How common is this problem w/ w8, im hearing other people have similar problems?

So, I'm the kinda guy thats good at alot of things on the computer, EXCEPT internet things.
I'm fairly worthless when it comes to that. But i have a question, my family and I share a wireless DSL network through an Apple Airport Extreme router, and then it connects to the little Apple receiver box which then is wired up to my computer. My computer has an Intel Pro/1000 MT network connection.
I was wondering, are these two a good match up? because my internet right now, is HORRIBLE. Sometimes it's even worse than dial up (56k steaming videos are choppy and slow download). So i was wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.

First, thank you to anyone who can help at this point, as all homegrown efforts have been exhausted and have only seemed to make things worse. I fear that my PC has contracted some sort of downloading virus that allows things to implant themselves onto my computer's c: drive and run their devastating courses. I have downloaded and run McAfee, Ewido, Ad Aware and other spyware/adware/malware programs that I think helped track down some of the resulting issues, but none have identified the original problem. Okay, so I've been having problems with my FPS in games even as old as Half-Life 2/Garry's Mod. I've gone through every troubleshooting step possible with my video card, and nothing seems to be wrong with it. I have almost no background applications running (under my username). I even had my friend bring over his video card (which is the same model, and works fine for him) to test it out and I didn't have any increase in FPS with his either. I was going to get around to reformatting my hdd and doing a clean install of Windows 7, and now I think I'll do it even sooner, now that this is happening. I have asked a few friends, and they have no clue what is going on. Some are even very experienced with hardware. Short of taking my rig to my local PC store to get diagnostics run for $80, I don't know what to do.

DxDiag is attached.

Oh my what a mess. Since you have no way to access the net to download programs I'm going to try a manual fix on your hijackthis log and try to get internet access back. If it doesn't work...you'll need to download the tools from another PC and move them to the infected PC and run them.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible.
Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure it?s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then back on to remove the infection from the restore folder and create a clean restore point.

Open up task manager and KILL the following processes...

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I found you guys last night while desparately searching for a cure for my computer.

I have a homebuilt Asustek black pearl 2.4 ghz computer with 1 gig of memory.

My CPU is pegged at 100% and has been ever since I loaded up an adaptec cd burning software. The only other thing I remember doing that night was downloading my e-mail which I didn't even open.

I've read a bunch of te related stuff on pegged CPU's but my computer is so bad I can barely get it to respond. I tried to run adware last night with no success. It ran through 10 items in an hour and then froze.

I've tried to boot in safe mode and to the command prompt - the computer can barely list the directories across the screen.

Is there another method to boot up my machine to be able to download and run the programs needed to clean up my mess?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just got done building this new custom gaming rig and as of right now I am completely disappointed with the audio quality and I'm simply looking to know if I can do something to fix this. I am running on the MSI P67A-GD65 (Link: Newegg.com - MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard) motherboard. I have gone through many driver updates on the board as I am currently using the onboard sound and I have yet to find anything to fix this issue.

I'll give an example of my sound levels. On my previous rig, I was running at 20/100 for my normal sound, and as of right now I'm at 100/100 and still wishing for the sound to simply be a bit louder. My microphone is terrible as well and all of the levels are low.

Simply put, I don't know what else to do. I have done all of the driver updates for the MSI board and everything through Windows Update is completely updated.

If anyone might have a possiblie fix for this, please let me know.

A:New Rig, And Terrible Sound

Have you downloaded the drivers off the realtek site? heres the site page, click the top link and downlaod and install those drivers, if the sound is still low then I feel it could be an issue with the hardware Realtek, I have to warn you that realtek is a Taiwanese company and they don't have european or US servers so it may take a while to download.

I run a small webpage (www.votomsonline.com), and a few days ago I ran into a problem. I had updated the site just a bit with some unimportant info, then gone out of the house. When I came back I could no longer access the site at www.votomsonline.com. I could get there (and still can) if I leave the "www." part out. I've tried Opera6.04, Opera7, IE6, and Netscape7. In opera and IE I get the typical "not found" messages... however in netscape it says "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.votomsonline.com.". This computer also shares its internet connection (cable modem) with another PC in my home... that PC also cannot access the site when "www." is placed in front of it

I am the only person having this problem. Everyone else can access the site normally. Tech support from both the host and domain provider haven't been able to help (the domain provider says the problem must be with the host and the host says the problem must be on "my end"), and I'm starting to pull my hair out! Any help or insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Terrible www problem!

I can get to it both ways.

?. Does it matter? As long as the users can get to it fine with the usual www.?

You're trying to get to it from an internal network? Could simply be a DNS issue. I'm a little rusty on my DNS (Domain Name Service) but I believe the WWW is almost the highest part - it's the highest that most of us deal with. There is an implied "." before the WWW that is "root" but no one uses that except DNS gurus.

Do you have your own DNS server or do you use your ISP's? On a 2000 or XP box, you could run NSLOOKUP and test the look ability of the DNS server to get to www.vol.....com.

Lookup how to's on the 'net for using NSLOOKUP. Or you can also type a "?" and get a list of commands wonce your're in it.

HP laptop experiencing severe performance issues, running Vista home premium SP2 with:
DualCore AMD Turion X2 RM-70, 2Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G (256 MB)

Running very little but the MS essentials and drivers, even with anti-virus turned off, experiencing CPU usage overload by simple applications.
For example, currently running a call on skype, and the CPU usage is nearing 95%. The main CPU users are skype, audiodg, and taskmg (since i'm using it to monitor the performance). It fluctuates from around 40% to 100% when nothing else is being done. Even the minimal load on the system causes tremendous drop in performance. Running new or old games with recommended system requirements way below the characteristics of this one, I experience severe lag and terrible framerate. Even half life 1 is lagging!

I tried going through msconfig startup and services in attempt to get rid of anything unnecessary but only the bare minimum is now running. Also the audio and video drivers were updated, that too did not lead to a visible performance increase.

What may be the cause of this?

Thank you.

A:Terrible performance

I'd get the mfr to do the brain work, since your PC is still under warranty.

But you can install freeware Hijackthis, generate the diagnostic file and post the file at any one of the sites that specialize in the use of that app. Some computer wizard will soon identify the culprit.

Did you check the itemized memory usage under "Processes" tab in Task Manager...see if anything is gobbling up resources? You might get lucky and find a simple change in "Services" will fix the problem.

If I remember correctly, WinAudit (freeware) does a much better job of showing what is running on your system than Task Manager, and no installation is required (run WinAudit from Desktop or a thumb drive). MSConfig is a bare-bones program.

Another option is to restore your PC to the earliest date listed: you can always undo the restoration.

Yet another option is to enter BIOS, make a note of your settings, and then revert to the default settings. If that does not remedy the problem, follow the manual to optimize your BIOS.

As a last resort, you can back up your personal files, tap F11 during bootup, and follow the system prompts to restore your PC to factory condition. Unfortunately all the demo crapware will be reloaded in that case. But it may be worth it to get your 'puter running fast again. Sometimes the latter option is quicker than repair as there always seems to be a never ending "one more thing you can try."

Good luck

Is this because I'm just looking at it compared to the brightness and clarity of the LCD? Was the CRT always this yucky and I just didn't notice? Or could something be screwy?

I have a pair of Razer Moray headphones running through a Razer Lycosa Keybaord which is connected into the back of a PCI sound card. I know a fair bit about computers, but I am no wizard.
My issue is this; when nothing is playing, no sound; I get terrible feedback "buzzing". It is continuous until I move my mouse (Also a Razer, not sure if that matters), when I move the mouse, it turns into a beeping sort of sound. It was funny for the first ten seconds, making buzzing songs moving my mouse, but it is now very frustrating. I have tried several other headphones, some I have plugged straight into the PC; which improves it slightly, but my Moray's are my choice headphones, because they sound fantastic besides this feedback.
If anyone knows what it might be, let me know.

Other attempts at fixing I have tried-
Plugged into motherboard sound; feedback is gone, BUT; I wish to use my soundcard as its sound quality is much greater than my Motherboard. In my opinion at least.
I have tried turning off other programs, including anti-virus for 10 seconds to see if it would remove the feedback, no success.
Unplugged different bits of hardware, mouse, Ext. Hd. etc. No success.

Thanks to anyone who provides assistance!

BTW: I use Foobar2000 for my mediaplayer. Not sure if that makes any difference.

Hi all,
Just upgraded to Windows 8 the other night, got Chrome installed and all that and using Chrome right now.
Something that I've noticed that is actually really starting to annoy me is the delay/slow response I get from my internet connection. I'm on WIFI and my router is like 8 feet away. There is a really big difference to Windows 7.
When I load pages there is a noticeable delay from when I click something to when it pops up, to when it actually loads. At worst ~5 seconds. It's worse with any streaming video. There's an annoying, noticeable delay between the page loading and the video starting. When I was on Windows 7 it was pretty much instantaneous, but now it's just really slow. I use Reddit a lot and a good example is even just simply clicking my new mail notification icon. Sometimes it might load up right away, other times it will sit there and I see "sending request" at the bottom and "awaiting response" for several seconds too. This never happened with Windows 7, ever.
Same goes for my actual connection speed as well. I was downloading a game off Steam and it was topping out around 280KBps. Before I changed to Win8 I was getting average 500+ KBps. I'm on DSL so it's not like my connection is shared with anyone else, nor is there anyone else in the home using the connection because I live alone. Same goes for other downloads using SABnzbd etc. My download speeds are just really slow.
I don't know what's up with this but it's really aggrava... Read more

Hello all, I've had this thing on my computer for about 2 weeks now.
I've ran my anti-virus(Kaspersky) - and it will give me the file name and saying it cannot be removed - I've located the file to my Windows/system32 folder and it's labled

Opnkhaxu.dll ( Readme only, author - s13x ) and it was created april 25th (2008) ( and thats when the problems arrived )

I can't use Mozilla or opera with this virus on my computer, I have to use internet explorer, and even then I can't use Google/yahoo, any search program of any sorts, I've tried (Unlocker.exe) to unlock the file and try and delete it but it's seem to of latched itself onto some important windows file and my computer gives me a warning that a vital component has been closed and needs to restart.

I've looked around but I can't find hijack this to give you guys a log, a link would be very helpful, I saw a link in another board but the hijackthis has been moved and I can't google to find it now. any help would be very appreciated on how to get rid of this thing.

Thanks in Advance for anyone who looks into my problem.

Oh, and any time I use my browser I get popups on anything I click, and sometimes it gives me chain popups and I have to cntrl+alt+delete Iexplorer.exe before it gets too bad.
And sorry if this is the wrong board for this.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Basically this battle with my computer started after i installed my new DVD burner and reformatted. I wanted to reformat because i felt my computer could use a good cleaning. When i installed my Dvd Burner i set the jumpers wrong, and my comp freaked, and for about an hour it wouldnt post, and thru the onboard sound, it was saying system failed cpu test. Now, i just uplugged everything and let it sit for about 45 mins, and it was working fine (remeber this was before the format.) After i got everything settled with that, i began to reformat, doing it the windows "long" way but i kept my music and such backed up on a seperate partition. After i formatted, i imediatly installed sp2, and updated and restarted my comp until it was done. I then installed all the necessary software for anti virus and anti spyware.

After all that i installed css, bf2, and need for speed most wanted. Before the reformat i was getting 120fps+ in cs, 80+ in bf2, and about 80-100 in nfs. That is with all settings maxed and AA 2x and AF 4x. Now, i get 40-60 in cs, 30-60 in nfs, and 20-40 in bf2. Now those arent entirely "unplayable" i know, but after having it run silk for 9 months...its a huge change for me, plus i KNOW my hardware should be able to handle it. Here's my system setup...

A:Terrible pop-up problems!!! help...?

Hello seaniesharko and welcome to TSF,

The infection you may have recognizes HijackThis and prevents HJT from reading the registry locations where it resides as well as hiding other infections in those locations. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis 1.99.1 for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your next reply.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

HP Pavilion 15z-aw000 CTO V1M95AV I paid extra to have this upgraded to windows 10 pro and to have 12G of RAM.  Out of the box this computer, which should fly, can barely reun anything.  It is considerably slower than the Acer I was replacing that is 8 years old running XP.  It takes a trmendous amount of time to boot.  Forever to open any program, and locks up on almost everything, even the simple stuff that came pre-loaded.  I have read post after post of people with similar problems, yet no answer or even an attempt to answer is replied.  All replies always say it must be old software or bad system settings.  The specs of this system should make it a very high quality unit.  There should be no software or settings issues out of the box.  I have read post after post of others who have the same issue.  When you call HP for help you get a person who barely speaks english that has no idea the difference between a laptop and desktop and make several efforts to sell you service packages.   I bought this with a good discount and it was still $700.00  That is a lot for me

A:Out of box laptop terrible

Well, how can we help you if we do not know what you have. Please provide the model number. Whom did you pay to have it upgraded? Was that a system configuration on HP's website or a third party. And you can save your demands with the Forum. We are fellow end users just trying to help and do not work for HP. So we can discuss your issue without any axe to grind one way or the other so let's get the discussion on that plane.

i just inserted to a computer ATI All In Wonder 9700pro and plugged a new ViewSonic 17' LCD monitor (VA712). I've set the resolution to either 1024 X 768 or 1280 X 1024 and set the colors either to 16bits or 32bits and it looks bad and i mean VERY BAD.

I'm using W2k and i have installed all the latest drivers.

I'm using a dongle because the AIW has only digital input and the monitor is analog

Thanks in Advance

A:the display looks terrible

I've moved you to hardware for more exposure.

I think the dongle is the top suspect here. One thing is for sure, an LCD will look pretty bad unless you run it at it's native resolution. That monitor has a native resolution of 1280x1024, so it's not going to look good at any other resolution. Since you're already tried that setting, I'd suggest you consider testing the monitor on another system to narrow down the issue.

Whatever you do, do not EVER EVER EVER purchase a Lenovo computer. We purchased one a few months ago. Within a very short time the motherboard failed. No big deal, right? These things happen with computers. Imagine my surprise when I found that even though we had purchased the warranty, we had to pay $50 to ship it in for repair. 2 months (yes, TWO MONTHS) later the laptop was returned. I powered it on to set it back up and SURPRISE! it did not work. Called support, ran tests. Oops. They forgot to include the hard drive..... Graciously they indicated I do not have to pay another $50 to ship it back - they will ship me a box in 3 or 4 days and then they will let me know in a couple of weeks how long it will take to return the computer to me. If I had money I would turn this thing into a boat anchor and buy an HP, which is what I should have done to begin with....

It is amazing how hard it to contact ANYONE at HP support.  Unless you want to buy something.  I have a new notebook that is a piece of crap.  I have spent hours on a chat with someone in India, (they tried to help), and I still have the problem.  It is under 8 months old, but they won't replace the darn computer.  The Graphics chip is corrupted.  They remotely studied the problem, but they won't admit the problem.  They also told me that they HAVE to physically see the product in their shop, but they have not sent a box to ship it back to them.  I work on this computer 20 hours a day, yet they "have " to see it for two weeks.  I am so sick of these guys and the lack of support I am ready to MAC.   UGggh. If anyone has any suggestions, or better yet a phone number in the US, I sure would appreiate your help. Thanks,

First I'd like to say that I am rushing this post... I have never seen/heard of this before. I'll start from the top. First, I went to change my account password. I noticed that my account picture was missing. I thought to my self "no biggie". So I entered my old one, then my new one. It told me to log off so I did. At the login screen, I noticed that my user account was MISSING... I hit ctrl+alt+del twice to log in that way, and I went to user accounts again and noticed that I no longer have an administrator account. I am listed as a "GUEST" account. I can't do ANYTHING anymore. I can't access certain directories, I can't change my account type, I can't get into the group policies, nothing. I don't really know how to explain it better. I need my administrator account back... I have windows XP Pro SP3. Starting in safe mode is no different. Reinstalling isn't an option.

Hi BC, Im really sorry I dont have alot of time today, but Id really like to help you. Try this. Boot up your computer and go into the guest accout. Go to start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore. Try restoring to a point just before this happened and see if that doesnt put your computer back to the way it was. It should. There are plenty of other ways to fix this problem but unfortunately I dont have alot of time. Im sure another tech will look at this post and maybe one of them will have the time to explain how to get your Admin acct. back in some other ways. I hope this helps you. Ill check back later to see if it did.

I don't know what's going on. My computer detects the hard drive under device manager but only shows those three partitions under disk manager. How do I make the computer see all 500 GB?

Hey guys,
I am using an Acer VN7 791G gaming notebook with:

- Core i5 4210M
- GTX 860M
- 8 gigs of ddr3
- no ssd
- win10 64

My problems:

- Mild slowness in general.
- Constant delay of audio when playing videos, both streams and downloaded videos, movies etc.
- Visual lag spikes ranging from a few miliseconds long to seconds long during said videos, making the movie feel sluggish.
- Games either having very low, unplayable FPS or having, i don't quite know how to describe it really, I guess having some sort of visual lag with "forced" feel to it, not really drops in fps. Call it constant visual delay.
- No exceptions. I can't play any game.

- I have been having this problem for around a year.
- It initially disappeared for around 2-3 months after I disabled Intel(R) Technology Access from the app menu. It randomly started again around 7 months ago.

Possible culprit:

- Both dpc latency checker and latencymon report extremely high levels of dpc latency.
- The problem somewhat eases when I disable the wireless adapter, though does not disappear completely, further suggesting that it is related to dpc latency caused by ndis.sys as reported by latencymon.

What I have tried:

- Possibly everything you can imagine.
- Every. Possible. Thing. found in the internet related to dpc latency issues. From suggestions related to the usage of command prompt, to completely deleting my wireless adapter and reinstalling it with newer drivers... Read more

A:Terrible DPC Latency

DPC latency problems are usually caused by bum drivers. The DPC latency checker should give you a hint where to look (if you have a lot of red bars).
