I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's not clear to me what 'Wake by Thunderbolt' (hereafter WbT) does and whether or not it's required for 'Wake On LAN' (hereafter WOL).  In the T470s and T480s user guides, there's no mention that WbT is required for WOL so I'm thinking it's not.  But then again, since Ethernet is in the dock itself, and seeing how there are controls for PXE, I could see how it might be required. ReferencesT470s User GuideT480s User Guide

I have bought a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad T470s with 20 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, Intel i7 and preinstalled Windows 10 Pro one week ago. It's good hardware and I am pleased with it - expect for 2 major issues:If I suspend (set to sleep) the OS (by closing the lid or select it in the shutdown menu), sometimes (I really can't tell whats causing that, it occurs randomly no matter if I just booted the OS and no programms are running or if plenty of programms are running and the OS is up since a few hours or if I try to resume it after 30 seconds, 30 minutes or 8 hours) it does not wake up again properly, meaning the green light on the power button stops flashing and turning to steady green but the screen remains black. In that state the fingerprint reader is not working as well. I can use some Fn Buttons (Mute and Esc) but nothing brings the screen back excepting a hard reset by pushing the power button down for a few seconds. After such a breakdown, the OS sometimes refuses to start on the first try (the boot process stucks / shows the Lenovo logo forever). After restarting it a few times the OS comes back up (scanning/reparing the filesystem during the boot process). What I have tried so far:Did a factory reset a few timesInstalled the latest updates and drivers (yes I'm using the "lenovo - update and drivers tool")Tried out diffrent power options in the windows control panelTried out diffrent battery saving options in the intel graphics settingsBooted a Linux live distribution from a ... This is an issue that I've seen in two other posts, but I can't find a resolution: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/Brand-new-M715Q-will-not-wake-after-sleep/m-... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Enterprise-Client-Management/NVMe-Drivers-and-M715q-Tiny-AMD/m-p/370512... I've posted on those threads to see if somone had a resolution on there, but I don't see any posted. We are experiencing the same issue.  Brand new m715q with BIOS ver M11KT31A (3/31/2017).  Windows 7 preinstalled.  Goes to sleep.  When you move the mouse or touch the keyboard the screen stays black and it doesn't wake from sleep.  Tried upgrading all drivers.  No change.  Tried upgrading the firmware.  That was when we discovered the firmware will not upgrade.  Firmware issue.  From the TVSU program it runs through the whole BIOS upgrade process, shutsdown windows, then the screen goes black, the fans rev up, and then stays that way.  Monitor says going to power save mode.  It never continues past that point.  If I go into the BIOS system log it says "BIOS updated"; however, the version has not changed.  We tried upgrading to M11KT32A.  Then recently they just released M11KT33A.  Same thing, doesn't upgrade.  I've tried running the update from system update, from the windows command line with manual reboot, from a bootable USB stick, and a bootable CD image and nothing works. ... I have found a few suggestions on Internet but all of them were connected with Win 7, not Win10. When trying to install old version of driver Windows said something about wrong OS or somethin like this. Generally I was unable to insall old drivers. OS:   Microsoft Windows 10 ProVersion: 10.0.15063 Compilation 15063BIOS version: BIOS LENOVO N1WET32W (1.11 ), 2017-05-23BIOS Mode: UEFI I will appreciate any help or suggestions. Best regardsTomPal

Ok so I have a HP Mini 110 and lately my computer has been acting strange. It wont shut down. If I try to shut it down it will act like its shutting down then re boot back up. If it goes to "sleep" (the buttons are still lit, typically the power button will just flash on and off) it wont wake up unless I use the power button.

Now this all started happening when my computer stopped or failed to update my language packs which took 28 hours to fully finish. Only 14 out of the 32 downloaded ok fine so i shut it down to just finish those that were installed. Ok so shutting down then the whole "Dont turn off your computer installing updates" then it gets stuck at 15 % then it goes to a black screen that i think said something like "initiating updates in 0 outta 321472 files" this took a good hour to finish. Then brought me back to the 15% screen then that changed to "Updates Failed" and something else, then the computer restarted.

WHAT DO I DO?? could it possibly be a virus???

None of my games will work. I took some advice of a forum because I couldnt get Perfect World to work and changed something in the registry to do with the port. Now no game will work and i would change it back but i dont know what it was previously.
My system restores wont work, wont even undo, and theres only one days worth there now. I dont know how to do a utilities reg scan which I think may be what I need to do, I dont know if its in my pc or on my XP disk. I cant use the disk because I dont know how to find my product code and the person I bought it off has gone to Cyprus .

I've done a Drwebcureit but really I need instructions for a 2 year old and I think this has happened since my last one. I had a Win32 Trojan in the other day and Vundo got rid of it I think, maybe its got something to do with that, maybe its still lurking around. Ive done a Combofix amd this was at the top - WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED. If anyone can help me, you would save my life, its driving me mad now.

This is only happening on my Win7 computer. About 20% of the time, I'll either get "the connection was reset", or the page will only load some text.
If I restore to windows default host file, all is fine. Except of course I get the annoying ad popups and stuff.
My 2 other xp computers are using the same MVPS hosts file and the same web pages load fine, with popups being blocked by the hosts file.
This started about 2 months ago.
I tried Firefox in safe mode, no help. Internet Explorer does it, too.
I tried offloading firewall, no help. Rebooted router, no help. Reinstalled Firefox, no help.
I deleted all temp internet files, cookies, no help.
The only thing that fixes it is restoring to the default Windows hosts file.

The only way I can see my websites is to refresh over and over till they load. Might take 5 times, maybe 10.

A:Websites wont fully load with MVPS hosts file....

Alright I fixed it. I'm using F-Secure anti-virus (free from my isp). When I un-checked the "scan and remove viruses from web traffic" the problem disappeared.
I still have "real-time scanning" and "browsing protection".

About a week ago a message window started popping up. It was titled "HOSTS file changed" and in the box read, "The following websites are blocked by your host file:" and then it lists a bunch of files like www.oo8k.com, etc. At the end of the message it asks, "Do you want to edit the hosts file?"

I consider myself computer knowledgeable but that is about it. I have never messed with the Registry or delved into any files that might foul up my computer. (I use my computer in my business - I do online newsletters for home-based travel agents - so having it working is real important.)

This problem is driving me mad. The window pops up, I have to eliminate by answering NO, and then it pops up again 2 or 3 minutes later.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, using Firefox as my browser, and MS Office 2003 for word processing, spreadsheet and email.

I'm afraid if I try to edit the hosts file I'll screw something up and put myself in the tank. Can anyone help?

Hello

I need your assistance with wake on lan.

hardware
Asrock b75m B75 mobo, realtek NIC onboard, win 7 x64.

issues
I could wake the pc before so i assume the tools are working and the configuration is correct. Wol in the bios is active and the option in the nic driver in the OS too. The system is setup to enter sleep mode automatically.

The last attempts to wake the pc up were unsuccessful though. The sleep led was buzzing but sending the magic packet didn't do anything.

What could interfere with wakeup? Is there maybe a bios bug? Or an OS/driver issue?

A:PC wont reliably wake on lan

It could be a driver issue or it may be caused by a firewall blocking the relevant port. Try to temporarily disable your firewall and test.

Also, try the wake on LAN from a clean boot mode (Bar any applications that are needed in order to get it to work) and see if that resolves anything. If it does then a third party application will be interfering.

Hi, this from another post covers your problem:-

Quote:

Hi, since this revolves around "hibernation" lets take a look there. Your hibernation settings are contained in a file "hiberfil.sys" and if it is corrupt could be the cause of your problem (none of this will do any harm). Lets clear the file:-

Open a CMD prompt (as administrator, accessories right click command prompt select "run as administrator)

At the prompt type:-
Code:
powercfg -h off press enter
reboot to take effect
This will disable hibernation and clear the hiberfil.sys file.

After reboot open another CMD prompt (as administrator, as above) and type:-
Code:
powercfg -h on press enter
reboot to take effect
Now go to this site and apply the recommended settings for power saving (inc hibernation) read it all.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63...-problems.html

Hopefully this will resolve your problem.(don't worry about the vista applies to 7 as well)

Got an Inspiron 6000, XP home sp2. When I let the battery run down (or whatever) and the puter hibernates it won't wake up and keep the files that were still open. I basically have to reboot it and find that everything is gone. Yes, I have low battery alarms set, but sometimes I underestimate the time it takes to get plugged back up.

Is this a hardware problem? Puter is still under warranty.

Is this a Windows problem?

I just need some general direction, don't know where to begin w/tech support if it is a hardware problem.

Thanks!

A:wont wake up after hibernation

Are you saying that you keep using it until the battery is flat and shuts down from alck of power...or as you say hibernates and when you get the main power back on or restart it you files are gone that you were using?

You can go to Control Panel under power Management and set the alarm to warn you way before it gets that low....if it gets so low then your files won't be saved

Hi,

This is likely a video card driver issue (or driver issue in general) not responding to to power state transitions correctly. I would expect you'd be getting 9F related BSOD's, however, it's always a possibility.

First thing I am going to recommend is that you update your video card drivers to the latest version (depending if you have AMD or nVidia) is the website you'll want to visit.

My computer will go into screen saver, but after a few hours the monitor will shut off, I am assuming sleep mode altho I dont have it set to do that. If it has only been a few hours I can move the mouse or hit any key and the monitor will come back on and all is well. If it has been over nite I can click the mouse or hit a key and the desktop will come up but I cant open any programs or start firefox. Using the start button and trying to restart or shut down will not open and occasionally all I get is a black screen. When I do have the desktop and try to open a program it gives me a message like "a window cant be opened" or it cant find the file...and a few others....This has been a few weeks now and the only solution is to manually turn the computer off, then on again. It will restart everything and all is well. What does the power button do? Wake it up, Resume Windows, or cold boot? I'm wondering if it is
actually going into hibernation. It might be worth double checking your power plan, which
probably includes HP's extensions. Is this a desktop? (That's what the model number brings up.)

This sounds like a freeze up, not a response to a power state transition. Check the Windows

It displays the logitech logo but will not do anything else. If I unplug the usb cable it will reset and work fine. I spent two weeks going around and around with logitech tech support and the best they could do was give me a discount on a refurbished keyboard. I've updated and back dated drivers as I was getting bsod's traced to an old keyboard driver and everything works ok but it would be nice if I could get the clock to work. Any suggestions?

I'd suspect a driver glitch, likely related to the other driver issues you were having. The only solution for such issues is typically a fresh OS install.

I had a local shop build me a desktop a year ago.

After a while I began to experience major problems, crashing, not waking from standby, that got progressively worse to the point the machine wouldn't boot.

Perhaps it was a combination of things, not the least of which was the anniversary update. My builder took it in, did all the tests, couldn't definitely find anything directly responsible, and decided to swap out the mainboard.

A fresh reinstall of the operating system was performed and has been repeated seve... Read more

The video driver provides the signal to keep the monitor out of standby so if it is corrupted somehow it might not be able to come out.

check the driver in device manager

Hello all,

My Windows 7 laptop used to wake up using WOL on my local network, but after I unplugged it from the network one day and then re-plugged, I appear to have completely lost this functionality no matter what I do.

I have:
Ensured that my Internet is only coming to the machine through a wired connection.
The laptop is connected to a power source at all times.
I have gone into to my wired network adapter's setting and have enabled: Wake on Magic Packet, Wake on Pattern Match, Energy Efficient Ethernet, Allow the device to turn of the computer to save power, allow this device to wake the computer, only allow a magic packet to wake the computer.
I have consulted my BIOS (InsydeH2O) and I do not see any relevant settings and from what I can tell online WOL on should be enabled by default.
The software sending the magic packet is using the correct MAC address for the laptop and the IP address for the wired network adapter.
I am truly putting the laptop to sleep, and not into hibernate mode or shut-down. I thought that this was all that was required in order for a WOL to work on a local network, but I appear to be missing something.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated! Many a frustrated hour has already been spent on this and I am at my wit's end.

Thank you in advance.

A:Wake on Lan Will Not Work

Two items to check- make sure that your incoming router is not blocking UDP port 9 or make a rule to direct UDP port 9 to your computer.
I would also test by unchecking the "only allow. . ." to see if the computer wakes up on anything.

You can try http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/woli.aspx to test if the packet is being blocked somewhere else.

Hi recently my Dell screen has not been able to wake up from an extended sleep. The laptop starts up but the screen remains blank. The only way I can get the screen on is to reboot the computer. I've had this issue for a week now and it has come out of nowhere. I've tried updating my drivers as well as many other things I have seen online and nothing has worked. My laptop is running windows 8.1

Hope im putting this in the right thread.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-110US laptop with Vista.

have not had any problems with it until a few minutes ago. I was moving it so I closed the lid and unplugged the power cable with it still turned on. Whenever I do this it goes into some kind of sleep mode which I can sometimes get it to wake up from and other times I have to reboot. I couldnt get it to 'wake up' so I tried rebooting, waited a few seconds and started it back up, but it still seems to be sleeping.

It will start up and I can hear stuff moving around inside, the power button and the internet-connection button both turn on, but the internet-connection button is orange instead of blue (only does that while in sleep mode that ive seen) and the screen remains black. Also the button to toggle the touch-pad on/off lights up but it does not respond to hitting it.

Ive tried rebooting it 3-4 times but it never 'wakes up' and the screen remains black.

I had this problem and so have tons of other people looking for a way to fix it. You close your laptop lid only to discover - sometimes.. not all the time, the PC will not wake up from sleep. Hitting buttons, moving the mouse, nothing works. You wind up hard booting the system to get back in.

My solution involved checking that Sleep mode under Power Options was actually activated to begin with. People don't want the PC going blank on them so they set all options to Do Nothing under "Change what happens when I close the lid". This is the wrong thing to do. I had everything set to Do Nothing. What should have been checked was Sleep. This will put the PC into sleep mode and you can wake it up by moving the mouse.

However we don't want it to work this way. We want to close the lid and have the PC not go into sleep mode at all. Even if under "Choose when to turn off the display" and "Change when the computer sleeps" and all your power plan settings are set to "Never", some PC's will still give you a black screen when you close the lid as if your going into sleep mode. As if something is clearly not working. It's not really going into sleep mode. It's fooling you. It's wonky. I have been unable to determine the cause of this but if actually activating sleep mode fixes the problem, then so be it. The next step will be to get out your shotgun and blast the sucker - nobody wants that.

Because this sleep mode did sometimes work under "Ch... Read more

Sleep/hibernate/standby problems are usually caused by corrupt video drivers
I would start by replacing that

After I put the pc into the sleep mode and then try to open with on and off switch, I can't get in windows 8.1. I get no video signal (image), but the pc stays on. I've been using since 2 days a new video card and I installed the drivers from installation cd. With my previous video card, I'd not suchlike problems.

A:Windows 8.1 wont wake up from sleep mode!!!

Maybe it's just really sleepy? *hears drum being hit in background*

sorry...erm..yeah was too tempting.

To my knowledge there is no real clear reason as to why this happens. You would think in so many OS systems with the wake/sleep function that they would had perfect it by now huh? You may get some people suggestion checking your drivers, energy/wattage issue/etc. I personally don't believe any of that though myself. If it can operate while you are on it just fine but you turn it off and it won't come back on it sounds more like an OS issue than anything else.

I used to have the same issue with an old old Acer Aspire 5720z. I never found a real solution to it either.I truly think the only "cheaphax" here would be for you to just disable sleep mode.

You could see if this helps you any but I highly doubt it will.

This is a new one for me. My friends monitor doesn't wake up when its in screen saver mode. Have ran AdAware and Spybot. I have also looked for anything funny in the properties to adjust the screen saver and power settings. I have found nothing unusual there. My friend was running an aquarium screen saver. But when changed to a windows screen saver, it did the samething again after a while. She has to shut down the PC at the power button to get her desktop back.

Any ideas?

Howdy all, I seem to have the worst luck with my PCs either not sleep or they wont wake up! lol my current issue is not waking up, every night I put my pc to sleep and the next morning when I click the mouse or push a key either nothing happens or the tower lights up and fans kick on but the screen stays black. and I must power down and restart

I have all new video drivers, I have a feeling it may be my keyboard because sometimes the keyboard doesn't shut down when the pc is put to sleep. It still has all its lights on. It is a Merc steel series gaming keyboard,

The only other weird errors I get in my event viewer are these, and they have to do with windows search.

Eventid 1006 The Windows Search Service has failed to create the new search index. Internal error <4, 0x80070002, Failed to add project: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects>.

The Windows Search service terminated with the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Eventid 7023
event id 7034

The Windows Search service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 37 time(s).

Any help would be great!

Hello jdude,

I has this issue once as well. I added AHCI Link Power Management - HIPM/DIPM to my Power Options. Setting it to HIPM+DIPM stopped this for me. You might give it a try to see if it may for you as well.

A few weeks back I upgraded my laptop and since then my computer started acting weird. My battery had until then been perfect, but now it drains during one night when computer is turned off, sleeping, closed lid etc..Also, as soon as I let it rest, close the lid or simliair it wont wake up again. The keyboard lights are on but notning except a hard reset works.Sometimes I do the hard reset and find that the internet webpages sometimes are "saved" and opens up when I power up again. The fan has also started to wound alot more recenlty. My guess is that some downloaded upgrade caused this but I dont know how to fix.I have tried downloading all the latest drivers etc.I have also tried a ton of tips from different forums regarding power settings, hybernation and such but nothing works. All of this happened right after the bad update so I know that the problem is not the battery itself..Thank you

Yes, I know that there are similar threads on this problem but none has the solution for mine.

Basically, I cannot use Remote Desktop to connect to my PC which runs Windows 7 x64 Ultimate when the PC is in sleep mode. The problem didn't exist when I used Win 7 x32 before.

Here's some information that could be helpful for you in detecting the problem.

- My PC is connected to the internet through a wireless router. The IP address is fixed (through TCP/IPv4 property). Note that I can use RD when this PC is on.

- The wireless adapter is Dell Wireless 1505 WLAN mini-card. In the device manager/Power Management, I have all 3 options ("Allow the Computer to turn off this device", "Allow this device to turn the computer", and "Only allow a magic packet") checked. I have tried all combination of these options but none works.

A:Wake On Lan doesn't work

Welcome!

Make sure these settings are also enabled.

If you do not have those settings, try looking for a network adapter driver update.
