100S won't turn on (but battery light is on)

Q: 100S won't turn on (but battery light is on)

The kids let their laptop run all the way down, and now we can't get it to boot back up. It's been plugged in and the battery light is on, going from orange to white, but otherwise there's no sign of life at all. No noise, no screen flicker, etc. I've read through posts describing similar problems and seen suggestions to remove the battery, but this unit doesn't have a removable battery. I've also seen various suggestions to hold down the power button while unplugged or try the Novo button, and have tried both with no luck. Is there any other way to bring this brick back to life?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi smcindoe,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would encourage you calling in technical support for inwarranty repair.
The hardware manual here do offer power checkout guide (page 21-22) to help isolate the ac charger but since it can charge the battery from purple to white, then internal parts should be checked further.

I hope this helps you on how to proceed.
Update us how it goes best for you.

Yesterday, I spilled a little bit of coffee on my laptop. It got on a few keys but not a lot at all. It worked fine, then I didn't use it for a few hours. Went to go do some school work and it wouldn't turn on and hasn't turn on since. When the charger is plugged in, the light comes on and it charges but no other lights come on and the computer won't turn on. I tried a hard reset but that didn't work. I really don't want to lose everything on my computer, I need it for my classes. I took it to my colleges tech department and they cleaned it and said there didn't seem to be water damage to the motherboard so i'm not sure if he just missed it or if something else is the problem. Hi all,
I got my new XPS 15 9550 2 days ago. Everything went fine at first but tonight when coming back home the laptop won't turn on. I tried the following (both with AC adaptor plugged in or not)
If I press power button the battery status lights blinks 4 times white and é times orange repeatedly.
I tried pressing power button for one minute - nothing.
Pressing Fn key and power button - then the keyboard lights turn on  for about 5 seconds then turn off, and same blinking of the battery status lights as described above.
Any idea what to do ? Dell technical support doesn't seem to work on week end...
Thanks

I have a question. My Ideapad 100s has just came back from repair. When it came back, I noticed a light shines through, from the inside of the computer. This is only visible in the dark. Before the repair, I have used it in the dark before, but I never noticed a light. I just want to know if this is a normal thing or if they did something wrong.I have had it for less than two months.

Hello everyone,  I am facing this problem from the past few days in my Lenovo G510. Whenever I plug in the charger for charging the laptop, both the power light and the battery light with orange color, starts flashing and the laptop stops charging.  The color of the battery light changes to orange, even if my laptop is nearly 50% charged. Can't figure out, what is the problem? Any help will be appreciated!

This just started happening recently. The power indicator light (near the power plug) does not turn on and Windows does not recognize when the adapter is plugged in; the power icon and cusomized power saving "on battery" behavior reflect that. HOWEVER, the battery does charge. The "lightning bolt" charging light on the front between HDD and system power lights comes on and the battery recharges if not at 100%. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Is it more likely a Windows or hardware problem? The BIOS does not have the power adapter test mentioned here, and I could not find the software download for the Smart Adapter functionality (this laptop was installed with clean, non-OEM OS, so any OEM software had to be added manually). Thanks in advance,Kyle

Hello! I have been having this problem for about a week now, ever since I set my old computer back up in my room. The problem started when I left my computer alone for a while when I went out (the computer was working fine and I had just finished transfering pictures to my computer from my camera). I came back and the power light on the front if the case was on, but the battery light was off. The monitor had also gone into sleep mode. I turned off the computer since I knew whatever I was going had already been saved and exited out of, unplugged everything (including the monitor and PC/Monitor cable) and plugged it back in and turned them on. The monitor goes straight to power saving mode (sleep mode). The PC is definitely receiving power, the keyboard's caps and num lock keys flash, the wireless mouse's light flashes, the pc fans turn on, and both of the power and battery lights turn on. But, after a second, the battery light turns off, and the only light I can see through it is the power indicator's light bleeding through. The strange thing is, I've been able to get it to work before, about 2 times actually. Both of those successful boots happened either when I ignored the thing for so long or left it unplugged over night, but had already forgot it didn't work last time. But it did those times. So I tried to leave it unplugged all last night. Just woke up, and... still nothing. I really need to to get those pictures to my mom, so if someone could ple... Read more

HI, I recenty bought the Ideapad 100s  and am generally satisfied with it. But sometimes (about 7 out of 10 attempts), laptop does not turn off when I shutdown the computer. That is, the power light (one next to the battery light) is still on. In fact, I know that the computer is really not turned off because the battery life goes down when that happens.  So I have to press the power button for about 15 sec to actually turn off the computer. And I do not think manually turning off the computer like that is not good.  What might be the problem and how can I fix it?Thanks,

Hi everyone, my 100s Ideapad recently had a charging issue where it won't charge unless you cram it in. So, I ordered a new charger off of Amazon with the same output voltage. However, when I plug the charger in, it doesn't show the charging light or turn on. I tried unplugging the battery and holding the button down, but it didn't work. The gold part inside the charging port is loose, I think that's what's wrong. Does anyone have any fixes?

Hello, Some time ago, I purchased a Lenevo Ideapad 100s. When it arrived, I immediately plugged it in and set it up. When I tried to turn it back on, nothing. I plugged it in and the orange charging light came on. Still nothing. Let it charge overnight until the green fully charged light came on. Nothing. Still nothing. There is no external battery. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I was taking a 40 day break from my computer ending on Sunday, put it in the basket. I was going to test the bootup, and when i push power, no light turns on. When i plug the adapter in, i hear a very quiet buzz noise from inside the computer, and i push the power button, still nothing happens, no lights, no boot. Is my computer dead or what? I just got this for Christmas. Is their a way to fix it, i hear taking the battery and unplugging the adapter and holding the power button for 30-60 seconds works on some Lenovo models, but the battery is not accessible without me having to mess with screw drivers. I want to have a good working lenovo. Should i mail this in to Lenovo, or is their a way to fix manually. -Isaac Schaff

The battery light on my Latitude 7370 started to flash in orange and the laptop is not using the battery. It does not start when the AC is not plugged, and shuts down immediately after the AC is unplugged. However, the Dell online diagnostic test for battery passes it as working OK (the test for motherboards also passes). In BIOS, I can see the battery as 100% charged; however it also says "Health: Communication Error". A week ago the battery still had enough charge for up to 5 hours of office work. I have tried to unplug the battery, start the laptop without it, and then plug the battery back. I have also tried unplugging and plugging back the CMOS battery. Neither of these helped at all. I have been using the laptop with WD15. The behavior persists on 2 different WD15 units as well as on the default AC charger.

Hi.
I bought an Ideapad 100S-14IBR in september 2016 and its battery has been greatly reduced since last year. I could stay unplugged at least 5 hours with internet switched on or 8 hours with everything switched off and low luminosity. Now I struggle to get more than 3 hours with everything off. I tried recalibrating the battery, hasn't proved useful.

I haven't abused the battery, I use my computer on average less than once a day, I don't leave it plugged. On my battery report I have 22 000 mWh out of 33 000 mWH design capacity. This is really annoying since I need to bring this computer to study at school but it can barely made it. Does anyone have an explanation ? Otherwise I would like to know if the warranty (which is still active) covers a battery replacement ?

Thanks

Hi!

I have issue with my Lenovo 100s, it doesn't charge or turn on. I tried all of "hold power button for 15 seconds" suggestions and decided to call local Lenovo service provider. And since I bought notebook in Malaysia, they were not sure if this is covered by Lenovo warranty and suggested to contact global Lenovo. And here I am, I chacked warranty status online, it's kinda valid, but I cannot use live chat, because it doesn't work in my country, I cannot order call, because I cannot change Malaysian country code to my country code in phone number input field, so I'm writing here.

Any suggestions?

I have an older SL510 laptop, which has been working very well. But recently the battery power was continuing to diminish until recently, it stopped holding a charge altogether. At this stage, the orange battery indicator started to blink continuously at a rapid rate. I am still able to power up the laptop with my power cord connected. Purchased a new battery to replace the old and assumed light would go to green after charging. Unfortunately, after several hours connected to the charger, the battery light continues its constant orange blinking. Went through the process of uninstalling the ACPI file as noted in another post. Followed these steps:1. Disconnect AC2. Shut down3. Remove battery4. Connect AC5. Startup6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of Microsoft's ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Uninstall (note that it is all right if you only have one).7. Shutdown8. Disconnect AC9. Insert battery10. Connect AC11. Restart your computerAfter completed this process, battery light continues to blink rapidly and battery doesn't seem to want to charge, or provide any indication that battery is inserted in computer. This happens whether I'm using either of the 2-power adapters I have for this laptop. What can I do to get this fixed??? Thank you in advance for any assistence provided!!!

My pc isn't registering a battery is present. This is causing the battery light to continuously flash orange. If I remove the charger cable when the machine is on, it immediately cuts out.
I've run a system check (FN + power button) but there is no mention of a battery problem.
Other users report that a BIOS update has solved their battery issues. However, BIOS updates can only be installed if both charger is plugged in and battery is present. Catch 22.

Hi, I purchased the laptop in November and I've been having issues with the battery for the past two days. The charger is currently plugged in, but it won't charge. It looks like it's charging but when I hover over the battery icon it says "0% available, plugged in, charging". It also did the same thing earlier while charging and it automatically shut down on it's own. Last night I left it plugged in all night and when I woke it was at 100% but it's back to giving trouble today. Any quick fixes or do I need to buy a new laptop before this one dies?

Hi everybody. I recently bought the Ideapad 100S 14IBR at a local store the on September, 19th 2016. It is a nice notebook but I just discovered something pretty unpleasing.  With Windows 10 installed, I could do 8 hours of word processing with close to full battery which is pretty neat. After installing Linux, to my surprise since this OS has bad reputation about battery life, I still could get around  8 hours of word processing just like Windows. Very nice for college usage. However, Linux Mint gives access to more in-depth informations about battery life, that I can't seem to get on Windows. ? As you can see, my brand new battery can store up to 4350 mAh full charge according to its desing but I can only store 3721 mAh at full charge, which is an indication of wear. This discrepancy seems pretty large since I just recently bought it (see 20 charge cycles in 21 days of usage) but the battery is already at only 85% of its life expecatncy, which seems to be a lot of wear for such a small period. I know that these tools aren't the most accurate but the "charge_full" rate has been going down pretty reasonnably (normal wearing) since I have been monitoring this data so the measures seem to be pretty legit and not complete fantasy. It really surprises me since I've been using my laptop very reasonably, making sure it didn't heat and keeping the battery life between 20 and 90 % in order to avoid... Hello, I bought this Ideapad 14IBR on friday and the battery will not hold a charge and it has been at 0% since i bought it. any idea why this is ahppening. do I need to take it back and get another one?

A:Brand New Ideapad 100s 14IBR battery not charging

Well, The battery most likely is Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) and either have been a production defect; or have not been properly charged at the factory; or have been drained completely, been sitting for a long time, then as a result have suffered damages to the chemical bits inside. You may have to return only the battery to the store (If accessible to remove form outside/If not internal) , unless they tell you to bring something else in addition. Sincerely Cklone.
