I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

A:Signal out through Hdmi port

Let's check device manager and see what is listed under display adapters. We need to be sure the correct video driver is installed. Also please describe your setup. HDMI cable from laptop to what? Monitor? TV? Have you tried the Windows key on the keyboad plus the p key to see if you can get it displaying on the external screen?

Hi guys this is my first post as im at a loss of what to do .
Recently my old monitor stopped working, it was using a VGA cable, but the cable is not the problem, my PC is. I bought a new monitor which requires HDMI, however the port on my PC will not respond to the cord, meaning I have no monitor :/ or anyway to troubleshoot. The only thing I can think of would be to buy a USB to HDMI adapter? But even then I would need a monitor to install the device surely. I would usually take it to the shop, but with lockdown I am lost and without a PC for the forseeable future, help would be appretiated!

A:Faulty HDMI Port- 'No signal'

Hi Warro, and welcome to TSG.

I don't think anyone here can give you much help without knowing:

1: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of your computer and/or the motherboard.

2: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of any video controller expansion card (the card itself, not the manufacturer and model number of the graphics IC) plugged into the motherboard.

3: The operating system running the PC.

I have two monitors for the past year and have had outputs going to both just fine (both HDMI). This morning, one of them stopped working. It's not even recognizing the monitor when I go to Graphic Options > Output To. Is there any way to see if the HDMI port is simply not working?

A:Latitude E7240, HDMI port not putting out signal to monitors

* What operating system?* What two specific monitor models?* The Latitude E7240 has the following video out ports = rightside mDP, back HDMI. So how are you connecting two HDMI in monitors at the same time to this laptop?

Hello, I am pretty decent with computers but not an expert. I am having a little trouble with my home theater PC display flickering. My video card is a Radeon HD 6900 and the drivers are up to date. I have the HDMI out of my PC going to an Onkyo 7.1ch HT-R590 receiver and it's output going to my LG 42" TV. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate X64.

The system used to work perfectly fine but over time the display started to flicker at random times. I tried to hook my PC directly to my TV and it works perfectly fine, so I am 100% certain the problem is in the receiver. I did a bit of research and it appears to be a problem with my receiver over heating. I placed a 120mm fan on top which helped some but the problem is still there.

Now, if I run my HDMI to my TV, I cannot use 7.1ch surround sound. (Even after playing with Audio Return Channel) If I run optical to the receiver, my video card only puts out 5.1ch surround sound for some weird reason. So I did the next obvious choice, I ran a DVI to HDMI to my TV for video and HDMI to my receiver for audio. I thought it would trick it into thinking there was two displays but this does not work, I do not get audio.

I was wondering if you guys knew of any utilities that would allow me to output audio on one HDMI stream and video on my DVI port. I did a lot of looking around and it looks like DMCA calls for HDMI to be encrypted and you can't separate the stream. Or would I just be better off getting a separate audio card to connect to... Read more

A:Display flickering, need help spliting HDMI signal

No, as far as I've heard/read, you can't circumvent DMCA - HDMI either carries HD audio and video, or it just carries video and you have to output audio via toslink/stereo from your computer to your receiver.

Have you cleaned your receiver, ie: used compressed air to remove the dirt and dust? Have you considered sending it in for repair?

Hi! Please help!

This was working fine before I had to format my computer. I'm about six hours deep in this it's killing me. I'll provide you with any info I can, but I'm far from knowledgeable about this kind of thing.

The problem:
My second display is recognized by my computer, but it receives no signal, showing a blank screen with no sound.

My setup:
Windows 7 64bit. I have a monitor as a main display and a TV connected as an extended display. The monitor is connected via DVI. The TV is connected via HDMI. The TV is a PDP-R04. My graphics card is an AMD Radeon R9 270X using the latest drivers (14.501.1003.0). The cable works tested on other devices with the same TV. The TV works. The source settings on the TV are correct.

Things I've tried:
- rolling back to previous display drivers
- uninstalling display drivers in safe mode and re-updating
- resetting CMOS to defaults
- booting computer with only the TV plugged in
- changing the TV's resolution settings
- crying

I have been having troubles with my display port monitor, and I just realized that the monitor is picking up 1923x1080 60hz (thats what the HP settings say on the monitor) but according to Windows its sending out 1920x1080.
ATI Radeon 5770
I don't have CCC installed because of previous issues, any ideas why I'm getting such an odd resolution?

A:Display port signal 1923x1080

1923 x 1080 is the actual resolution that you are getting, most manufacturers list the resolution as 1920 x 1080 because it is a much easier number for the consumer to remember. As far as your video issues are concerned, we may need more information. When do the issues appear, how often, and what is happening?

Just purchased a new Mobo (Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe). Haven't bought the CPU. I am waithing on the new 22nm models. After taking a close look at the display outputs on the mobo I have a choice of HDMI or Display Port. None of my existing monitors have ports for that. Soooo I guess I get a new display.

What should I be looking at as far as cables and the choice between HDMI or Display Port. I am not familiar with either one. Also I am assuming the cabling is different for the two ports.

A:Display Port or HDMI

You can find adapters to allow you to use either with DVI. If your current monitor needs replacing anyway, an HDMI-native model will be cheaper than the DP version.

It can get more complicated if you have plans for multiple monitors down the road.

I have been doing a lot of research but all I find is B/S like when they were invented, royalty rights, extra pins ect. but not just some basics answers to some basic questions.

I have a video card and display both with HDMI and Display Port ability.
At the present time I'm using HDMI to HDMI.

1. Can I use HDMI and Display Port using 2 cables at the same time on the same screen and is it a advantage or disadvantage?
Please explain.

2. If I just use Display Port will it work better that just HDMI?

I don't have a Display Port to Display Port cable at this time.
I will buy one if it will make things better.

I'm not having a problem at this time. I'm just trying to get the most out of my hardware.

1 monitor 1 cable

since DP and HDMI are both digital, I guess there is no advantage either way (unlike analog vs digital).

2 outputs usually means dual monitor support, although you'd have to check the manual. Dual screens is the best upgrade I've ever made, esp for my C4D work - also good for watching TV whilst surfing !

BTW although I mainly use DVI, I had to buy a HDMI lead recently to test some gear. I was surprised to see a note in the package to the effect 'warning do not hot swap this lead - power down all equipment before connecting'. Apparently there's some kinda live detecting pin that can cause probs when hot plugging.

Hi, I own ProDisplay P222VA monitor, it came with display port cable but my problem is that my old video card doesn't have diplay port input, so I bought Logilink display port to DVI cable (in my country where I live i found only this) hoping to get digital signal but getting NO SIGNAL. I tried change settings in menu input control, also tried solutions found in internet where some people fixed the problem by unplugging power cord about 1min.  and back again, not sure if I've done everything correctly but so far I can't get digital signal in my monitor. I have also installed driver from the CD provided. The new problem I'm facing now is that it's very hard now to unplug this display port cable from the monitor, I press the button to release it but the plug doesn't want to go out. I fear to damage monitor.I really hope someone will help me here.

Afraid adapters aren't going to work.
SVGA outputs an analog signal.
HDMI is digital.
You would need a signal converter and those aren't very cheap.

My ThinkPad laptop computer does not have an HDMI port, so in order to connect my computer to my HDTV I use an adapter plug which accepts an HDMI cable male plug (from my TV) and then plugs into my a/v display port. I've gone thru a few of these adapters because for some reason they tend to develop connection problems, like loss of the audio portion, or whatever. The current plug is shorter than my previous ones and less likely to get bent, but all of a sudden I've lost the audio transfer again and when I went to unplug and replug the adapter to make sure the connection was secure I found it was very hot. I don't recall it ever being that hot before....some heat, yes, but this was very hot. Not a good sigh....eh?

When this same audio loss has occurred in the past, unplugging and replugging the adapter has worked, turning the TV off and back on again has solved the problem on some occasions, other times it took restarting the computer. And then on some occasions the loss of TV audio was due to my receiver input setting getting accidently altered (I run my TV audio thru my receiver and into a Dolby surround sound speaker system). None of these remedies have worked this time however.

In this case I'm more concerned about the overheating issue than my loss of audio transfer. Can anyone with good technical knowledge comment on this high heat matter....should I trash this plug immediately?....can damage be done here with an overheating plug, or is some heat to... Read more

Hello,I have a refurbished T420 running Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit.  When connecting a projector via the "Display Port" using an HDMI adapter, I cannot duplicate the display.  It allows to extend the display but I like to have the image on my PC too and it doesn't do that.  Also, when extended it doesn't allow me to run operations on the projection screen. I have read aa few tips on reseting the video portion of the BIOS and I have checked, it is set on the NVDIA driver, the computer also has the Intel video driver.  I am using  MS PowerPoint 2010. This is very frustrating any help appreciated.

New laptop. Good HDMI cable working fine. Sony Bravia TV uses the HDMI port too. I try to use a Display Port to HDMI converter from E-Bay and what happens is the image on TV flashes at 1 sec intervals.  The E-Bay seller is willing for refund as he is sure it worked with WIN 8 OS. IS there any patch I can try in the laptop or alternately should return the adaptor to E-Bay and buy one from HP ??
