Windows Live Messenger problems

Q: Windows Live Messenger problems

Okay, so a few days ago I updated my Windows Essentials and it updated my messenger to 2011. I did not like that version, so I uninstalled it from my laptop. Then I installed an the old version I liked, (or I think I did.)
Anyways, the problem is with my cam.
As you can see, it says "Start or stop a video call" It did not say that before. It used to say " Invite contact to send cam" or " Send your cam". Now it only says "Start or stop video call"
Does anyone know how to fix this and make back to what it said before? I really need it back to that way. Or is there a version of messenger that has it that way? All help is appreciated. Thank you very much.

Preferred Solution: Windows Live Messenger problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows Live Messenger problems

Well, an update, I asked some friends and this is what happened.

This one can see the old version options.
But this friend says that "start or stop video call" is given to him for all his contacts.
But at the same time, this friend said that the option "start or stop video call" is only given to me. To the rest of her contact list, its a normal "send cam" or "start or stop contact's cam"
Is there any way to configure my settings on messenger to show the option "send my cam" or "start or stop contact's cam" instead of "start or stop video call" ??
I would really really appreciate any help on this. Please. All ideas are welcome. I really need the help. PLEASE.

Hey there!

I've been having problems with WLM 9.0 (14.0.8064.0206, 14.0.8050.1202). WLM Keeps popping up from the taskbarn everytime I minimize Firefox. When I minimize other windows or applications, WLM keeps it's position in the taskbar like it should.

So there's some kind of problem between WLM and Firefox, but what the problem is, I dont know.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I have being getting the error since this afternoon now
i have also search tru and read tru many website regarding the error 81000306

Well the Windows Live Messenger works fine earlier this morning while during the noon, me and my housemate changed the ISP since we have being using our friend's internet
And since we have our own ISP now, we switched the router and start using the internet
All works fine accept i cannot access into windows live messenger.
the thing says that It is not connect to .Net Messenger Services.

Runned all the rgsrv32 dll files, cleared the Socks, Flushed the DNS but none ever work.

It is still the same router tho Linksys that the MSN actually work before the switch of ISP
so either there's something wrong with the ISP or there's something that i need to configure.

Any Ideas where i Should start and do?
Thanks in Advances, much is appreciated and if you live in Asia, i'll buy you some beer.

[edit] i'd just noticed that i cant actualyl access into my hotmail accounts nor can i actualyl post anything at certain forum nor does certain microsoft website works, such as entries of windows and stuff

Ok, does this happen to anyone else?
You go to bed, things are working fine, but wake up and it is screwed up?
The midnite gremlins always seem to play havoc with me!
Now when I login to windows live messenger, I get the "so and so wants to add you to their list" box for anyone and everyone who has ever been on my list or in my contact list. I am talking a hundred or more of these boxes I have to manually cancel!

This happened at work, but my home computer was ok.
Now it does it at home, but my new work computer doesn't do it

What is up with messenger?

If you say uninstall and reinstall, how does one save all the custom emoticons? And I did this at my first work computer and it made no difference! You would think that your profile and setup would be the same on any computer but with this it isn't, why not?

Anyone got an idea??????

Hi there. had some trouble with WLM, couldn't get signed in. that was resolved (thanks!) but I am having a new problem. I cannot connect to a contact with a gmail address. I added her, and she shows up in my contact list but only appears as offline. We were both on line, but she showed as offline. then it suddenly changed to Mobile, but I could still not connect and chat with her. Other contacts popped up as available and I could chat with them. Is it the gmail that is the problem?

Hi all, Im hoping someone can help with the new windows live messenger which I have downloaded recently. I cant seem to access some of the content and am being given an error message of " your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

I have searched my security settings in IE and Mozilla firefox but it doesnt seem to make any difference.

Any help would be appreciated.......

A:windows live messenger problems

A few questions:

1) do you have any firewalls running? Some firewalls can be configured to block ActiveX content, as it a known route of infection.

2) Have you tried uninstalling, downloading a fresh copy, rebooting, and then re-installing. Sometimes this clears up "weird problems" with software.

This will help me and the rest of us see if we can't figure out the source of the problem.

I downloaded the newer version of windows live messenger, I had to update it because I could not log in. I checked all of my options out and they were what the shoud be. I went to the connections part of the program and noticed that there was and error in my connection I refreshed it and it is still there. I can't use the diagnose connection problems because I don't have access to it. I have removed the program and then reinstalled it and still nothing. I can't send out invitations to invite my old contacts. One of them sent me an IM and the program froze up my cursor had the hour glass beside it and stayed that way for a long time. I then exited the program and it said it was not responding. Can anyone help me. I am running Windows XP. Thanks in advance,

Hi, new here. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, please move to appropriate one, thanks. :)

Basically I'm on Windows Vista 64-bit, loads of problems with Windows Live. I've always been using old msn, but I accidently now can't go back to it. So I've been struggling for hours trying to sort this, unless I'm doing something wrong, possibly.

Anywho the error is I sign in and straight away (1-5 secs) I get 'Windows Live Messenger has stopped working'. After which the program closes.

After all the trouble and errors I can't get past this one, I'll be honest it is REALLY infuriating me at the moment.

Before hand I used to get an error that it couldn't log in and that there may have been something wrong with servers, or something. I ended the process of the Nvidia Network Access Controller to solve that, but I get this new error now.

Help, anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of SDFix and make sure you are disconnected from the Internet after downloading the program but before extracting the files.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with SDFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.

I seem to have lost the ability to load up Windows Live Messenger on my computer. None of the desktop icons work. I've tried running the "msnmsgr.exe" in Run... but that didnt work either. My next step was to try re-installing messenger on my computer. So I downloaded the setup file. However when I come to uninstalling the previous version in Add/Remove Programs, there is no "Windows Live Messenger" in the list ( the only windows live item in the list is "windows live essentials". And, of course, installing wndows live messenger from the setup file requires the previous version to be removed first (strangely, it comes up with 2 error messages when I initiate the setup file).

I have recently installed a new wireless broadband router, replacing my old one which had broken. Since the new router was installed (12th March) I have been experiencing this problem. Could be completely unrelated though.

As far as I am aware I have not deleted any Windows Live Messenger files on my computer. And "msnmsgr.exe" is still present in the Program Files folder.
So... yeah, I am slightly confused. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have just purchased an ACER computer and am running Vista. Previously I ran Windows Live Messenger on XP without any problems for a couple of years. However, I fired up my new computer about a week ago and I am being driven nuts trying to get Messenger to work. It is the latest version of Messenger - when I attempt to sign-in, the start-up screen for Messenger just "hangs there". The two small men are spinning in circles, my username and password are correct and my security setting APPEAR to be OK. Today I attempted a sign-in and after returning to my computer some 4 hours later, the two men were spinning. There is not even an error message to give me some clues.

Please help.

Downloaded Messenger 2011 onto my new computer recently; however, when I went to open it, it couldn't find the files it needed. Went searching for the program everywhere, nowhere to be found, not even on the Programs List. So, I decided, best thing to do would be to re-download it, but when the new installer opened, it said that the program was already installed, despite its apparent absence from the computer.
There is a similar problem with Adobe Flash - tried to re-download it, but it continues to believe it's on my system. Hopefully I explained the problem well :/

Any and all help appreciated.

I think a program I used for uninstalling windows live messenger has deleted some core programs and windows fails to do simple tasks like copying and pasting.

I was having issues with windows live messenger and was attempting to uninstall all componants and reinstall again but it wouldn't let me uninstall. After reading old forums on other sites I saw Revo Uninstaller pop up alot so I went with that.

After uninstalling with that, just going through the steps it said. I seem to have lost many basic functions. Noted so far, it doesn't realise connection status although I am online. Signing in to msn blue screen restarts my system. inabillity to cut, copy and paste files. Fails to system restore for some reason.

Any explanation and oppinions on my situation would be very greatful. I really don't want to have to lose any files currently not on my harddrive and I'm unsure what else to try.

I'm not very experienced with computers so if you give me replies in lay terms it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone!

I really hope someone out there can help me out with this, because itís driving me insane! I have searched and searched through endless forums and websites trying to find a solution, but I canít seem to find one. I posted this in the Web/Email section last week, but no one replied, so maybe I'll have more luck in here.

Here's the deal.... Iíve got a brand new computer, running Vista Home Premium, and from the moment I got it I have been having problems with Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Live Messenger.

I can surf the net and chat on WLM at the same time for hours on end, but at random, I start to get ďInternet Explorer cannot display this pageĒ and WLM disconnects. Itís not always the same websites that causes it, and it doesnít happen every time, like I said itís just really random.

For example, earlier it happened with TSG.... the main Forums page opened fine, but when I clicked on a forum name, I just got "IE cannot display the page", and WLM disconnected. It even happened when I went to the Microsoft website!

I donít think itís an actual connection problem because when it happens, AIM and other stuff, like Outlook, Limewire etc. stay connected and my little wireless icon in the taskbar says I am connected as normal. It just seems that whatever is wrong just affects IE and WLM. However, the IE problem still occurs even when WLM isnít running, so I guess it canít be caused by a conflict of the two programs. Ohhhh I just do... Read more

A:IE7 & Windows Live Messenger Problems with Vista

I installed Firefox and the exact same thing happens. I can access the internet no problem, and can access websites. Then, all of a sudden, for no reason I get the following:-

"The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading"

And Windows Live Messenger disconnects.

Soooo.... now I'm thinking it's something to do with my connection settings?

It still doesn't explain why WLM gets booted off and AIM and other stuff stay connected, but it might be a good starting point....

Anyone got any ideas?

(Note to mods: Sorry guys, this is probably in the wrong forum now isn't it. Feel free to move it )

I somehow got a virus/worm/thing related to my Windows Live account. Whenever I would log in, I would send a message with a link to all online contacts (the message being "HOT! HOT! www.isexsexsex.com" or something close to that). I would also spam any contacts of mine that came online while I was. I personally couldn't see the message going out, and I was not logged out of my account. I spent half a day trying to get rid of this dang thing before finally giving up. I first changed my password and security question, but that didn't work. Then I went and downloaded and updated every antivirus/antispyware program I could think of (Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, Crap Cleaner, Glary Utilities, AVG). After everything was fully updated, I disconnected my computer from the internet and ran scans from all of the above mentioned programs. While the scans were going on, I went on to a completely different computer and changed my passwords to all my important web accounts, then changed my Windows Live account password and security question to a completely different password from the rest. After all the scans on the infected computer were completed and everything they found cleaned up, I uninstalled Windows Live completely, then installed it again fresh. I then reconnected to the internet, and tried signing into Windows Live. Same thing happened, I was still spamming people. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but i'll try anyway!!

I'm using a laptop i have at my parents house & i haven't been here for a few weeks, logged on today and was uanble to sign in to windows messenger, via the msn toolbar. It just froze and i had to shut everything down and start again.

I used ctrl, alt delete and had a program running called search_glow (i think it was called that) did a quick search on it and most things on it seemed to say just delete the windows/msn toolbar and the problem should be solved. I done this, but then i still couldn't log into messenger, so i deleted all windows messenger bits via add/remove programmes and tried re-installing it. Seemed to work but then nothing happened when i tried to open it by clicking start then windows live messenger!!

Touble is when i tried to restart it keeps saying msnmsgr.exe is still running and asks if i want to end it, i click end now and it seems to do its stuff, then it just comes up with the same thing over and over, even though i ask it to end it!!

So i went into ctrl/alt delete and clicked on processes and there's about 15 entries for msnmsgr.exe if i click one and select end process it says terminating a process can cause undesirable results including loss of data and system instabili... Read more

My problem seems to be Hotmail (mail.live.com) signing in by itself in the messenger form.

Everytime I log on my MSN, not even 15 seconds after, I receive a message saying we are 2 logged on my MSN (it says it's mail.live.com), and 15 seconds after it logs me off, kind of annoying.

I go in my email, everything is off and crap. Changed the password, secret question, everything and it still persist.

Hey everyone, I keep on having lots of issues with Windows Live Messenger

Problems are as follows:

1.) Will not see Http: links in a chat when someone or me links to a web page.
SOLVED This issue by re installing msn plus software
2.) I am shown off-line to myself and to others, but a few can see me online :S

I have tired re installing windows live messenger and repairing it.

I am using (1)A-patch.org's program to hide advertisements and nudge delay and etc. and (2) Messenger Plus for tabbed chats.

It is driving me nuts having to copy the links to paste them into my browser and have not people know I am on-line.

Anyone ever encounter this error or or know a fix please?

Also If this is in the wrong section please let a mod or admin know to move it to the correct area.

Hi Everyone,

I've been having troubles updating my windows live messenger to the Essentials version. It says i have to update it to Windows live Essentials, so I've read most of the threads, but none seem to help or i just can't find the right one. Everytime i install Windows live essentials, it installs up the the 99% part and then just rolls back to 0% and says installation cannot continue. Then it says :

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC90.CRT,version="9.021022.8",publicKeyToken Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

Please close all other open programs, and then try again. It looks like another progran is preventing the installer from working. hr:0x80070643

Any hints or solutions?

Earlier this week, all was good, and I could sign into MSN fine.

A few days ago, it started to pop up with the message saying "Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered problems and needs to close."

I seemed to have managed to have fixed that today, but now when I go to sign in it comes up with the message:

"The service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error code: 800702e4"

Are these connected in any way, and does anyone know how to fix the problem and allow me to sign back into MSN?

Thank you for any help given.

Hello sweeta, as i read your post, the solution that comes to mind is for you to confirm your settings in your Audio Manager. If you right click your Audio Manager which is usually located in the Taskbar, you should be able isolate and fix this issue . Hope i helped .

This is a slightly annoying problem. I've disabled Windows Live Messenger from starting up, both through Messenger's options and through MSCONFIG. The program doesn't start when Windows starts. But when I log on to Windows Live Mail through a web browser, Messenger starts up on it's own. I cannot figure out a way to disable this. I've looked through Live Mail options and can't find anything to denote starting up the program. I only use my Live Mail account for junk mail, but need to check it occasionally and would prefer it if Messenger didn't start up on it's own.
