Q: Window calling for insertion of the HP Product Assistant Dis...

I started to repair Vista but decided it wasn't necessary and did not follow through with using the repair disk. Every time I boot up, a window appears telling me to insert the HP Product Support Disk in the CD Drive. How do I stop this from appearing? Thanks to anyone who replies. Doug

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

cannot remember the exact details as it has been a while but i would like it fixed none the less
whenever my sister (or any1 else for that matter) logs onto her user it will eventually come up with the HP Product assistant... the thing i cant do a thing about it, it seems as though its a nusance program lol no matter what i do i cannot "contuinue" to whatever it is trying to tell me, i followed the "help" to disable this but the settings never save, the only thing i can do is close it, then later it will appear again, every couple of minutes another will appear, even if another is already open, they will keep on appearing and its not unusual to have 5-10 at the same time any1 able to help?

Hi everybody!

For 3 weeks I have been trying to uninstall and re-install HP Product Assistant. A pop-up window tells me that it needs to be installed( it had been working fine for months and now this!) and that in order to continue I need to place the CD in the drive.
I do not have any CD with this product, or one where I could isolate it for reading.
ProdAssist( for short) does not show up in the list of installed programs.

During those weeks I found evidence that lots of people are having the same problem.
The pop-up surfaces many times in a few minutes, interrupting anything you do.
Worst, as it works as a check for installation of new updates and programs, as it cannot find itself installed, it denies access to all of them.

I have talked to the people of HP and they gave me a number of solutions. As my Office XP was reinstalled during a trip to S America, it is in Spanish. In order to eliminate the ProdAssist from the line of services I need to know what is its name in Spanish ( NOTE: I do not need the translation of the name, but the actual name used by HP, which is the one in the list of available services).

I will be very grateful to those of you that can give me a hand on this.

Hello,
I have been trying to upgrade from Windows Update, but for some reason it won't work, so I thought I can use the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant.

Once the "Updating to Windows 10" section is complete, it will open a Windows 10 Setup window. It asks for product key. I don't have it since I'm trying to upgrade and think that it will use the digital license.

Running genuine Windows 10, and I disabled the antivirus.

I appreciate any kind of help.

Thanks.

An Oracle Form is launched as a Java Applet in IE11. Ideally the user should not be aware of parent browser window but when the form launches another popup (eg adobe, MS office) window the parent window then comes to the foreground and hides the java applet
window - confusing for the user when they close the adobe or office application window!.  This is with regards to Windows 7.  With IE version 8 this was all worked ok and window behaviour was logical for the user.

I am using Microsoft Office 97 SR2 and Word has been working fine until this morning. It won't come up on my screen...just the help doggie. The only thing different I did this morning was clean my HP Printer. I have tried reinstalling the Office 97 SR2 and it seemed to install OK. Still the Word won't come up on the main display screen. Thank You....Ralph

A:Word: Application Window Doesn't Open, Just Office Assistant (doggie)

Does Word appear on your taskbar? I just posted the stuff below in another question. If Word drops to the taskbar, try it.

Know this: Reinstalling does nothing most of the time. There are products called Eraser 97 and Eraser 2000 that really MUST be used for a proper cleaning out of the old settings in the registry before reinstalling the Office suite.

Now this: Close Word. Start-Run and type regedit. Browse to this key:

Office 2K:
hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\9.0\word

Office 97:
hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\8.0\word

Right-click the Word folder and rename to OldWord.

Complete troubleshooting for Word can be found elsewhere on the board here, try searching. You should get them and hang onto it or bookmark it, it's really helpful.

But after some time, laptops fan making unnecessary rotations and making noise, and heating. I do not use any kind of heavy software on it. I browse the internet on Chrome and sometime on Mozila Firefox. But the laptop behave like i'm running very intense software on it. Even, when it is in ideal condition it's fan start with very high speed making the nose like hairdryer.
As it comes with OEM drive , I have installed window 7 Home Premium again to get the product key so that i can reinstall window 10 with product key. But when i checked OEM drive it completely empty.

Hi, and welcome to TSG.

The product key should be on the holographic Windows 7 Certificate Of Authenticity sticker attached to the outside of the computer. On laptops, this sticker may sometimes be inside the battery compartment. I have attached a photo of such a sticker used by Dell with part of the product key blanked out.

A:Window 8.1 Pro Product Key

WARYAA Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about needing your product key and wanted to help. With Win8x, the product key is embedded into the UEFI firmware on the motherboard.  You can retrieve it by following these directions:  Product Key - Find for Windows 8 However ... you have a bigger problem.  Your Win8.1 is not activating because you most likely reinstalled Win8 from an image your downloaded from the Internet or from an MS DVD -- and those images are Retail versions. Your PC came preinstalled with an HP OEM version of Win8 -- and the product key from that can only be used to activate the HP OEM version, not the Retail versions.  So basically, the version you installed will not activate unless you go out and buy a license for it. What will work is restoring your machine to its original factory condition using HP Recovery Media.  This is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks.  You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Upd... Read more

Hey Guys,

In 'System Information', there's a link that says 'Get more features with a new edition of windows". Clicking that brings up an 'Enter Product Key' page, and it is only at this point that I realize my product key isn't stuck to the bottom of this PC.

So, researching this on Google, I found a product key that Microsoft Released for the Trial:
NTTX3-RV7VB-T7X7F-WQYYY-9Y92F

So, my question is: Will my Windows 8 Product Key work with 8.1 Preview?
If so, I think I would rather dig that up than use a generic key.

If it doesn't, and I need to use this generic key, what happens at the end of the Preview when everyone has the same Product Key.

Will Windows 8 become an Operating System where you'll need to pay for the updated OS after the preview? Ie, paying for and getting a new Product Key?

And last, does anyone know what features entering a product key will actually unlock?

Thanks, Kurt

Welcome to EF BarkerBlast !

1- You can upgrade from Windows 8 without entering a product key, but for a clean install you'll always need a product key. You can enter the generic key or a key received from MSDN in case you have a subscription. Windows 8 keys do not work for a clean install.

2- At the end of the preview, if you upgraded from a valid Windows 8 install you'll be able to upgrade to RTM without a product key, but you will lose all your apps. If you installed the preview form an ISO or upgraded from a n... Read more

Hello,

I've been having a few issues with a new home-built computer (start up occurred on 11/25/2010), specifically BSOD's. Initially, the computer would crash due coming out of hibernation. This has been solved by turning off this feature, for now. In addition, a new problem cropped up yesterday. But first, a bit about the computer:

Computer background info:
-OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
-OEM version, purchased from Fry's Electronics.
-Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3
-Chipset: Intel i5-760
-RAM: 8gig Corsair XMS3 1600, matched latency
-HD: Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb 7200 rpm 32 Mb cache
-Video Card: NVidia GTX 460 768 MB

As window's updates have been installed the BSOD occurrence has slowed down until yesterday. Here is a chronological list of what happened:

-Computer was turned on, after being turned off since 12/18 as owner was on travel.
- During the first 15 minutes, two BSOD's occurred.
- After the second BSOD, the virus software registration files had become corrupted and required re-install (Kaspersky).
- After the Kaspersky registration files had been uploaded and the computer restarted, the Windows Product ID had been lost and had to be re-entered.
- Once the ID had been re-entered and accepted, Adobe Premiere fails to open fully: it will open to the main screen, but any further commands results in a software hang and the software has to be closed. This is new and had not occurred prior to the second BSOD on 12/31. Also, Window's media viewer will freez... Read more

A:lost product key for window xp home

Sorry buenf but we can't help you with that. An OEM (preinstalled) version of XP is only meant to be used on the computer it came with, it's the downside of not having to pay the full price of a retail licence. Getting the OEM key to work on another system would be illegal. Your only solution is to buy a retail licence and use the retail product key that comes with it (if you can't activate the OEM version with a retail product key you can phone ms or reinstall from scratch with the retail CD).

I'll close this thread, please refer to the forum rules.

A:Reinstall Window XP- Product Activation

Dell OEM disks do not require activation.  If the SLP key is missing this means you did not use DELL OEM media OR you are trying to use XP on a system that did not come with XP.   Microsoft DOES NOT provide support for SLP activation or OEM Versions of windows.

"Microsoft feeds synchronization" errors are XP Internet explorer errors and has nothing to do with Activation."
XP is end of life End of support AND microsoft has removed the downloads for Service pack 1 and 2 and 3.

Reinstalls of XP require service packs as well as IE8 minimum.
Its probably too late to get most of the links below.

XP is no longer supported. I highly recommend you download all 4 gigs of the files below to a flash drive because later on they will no longer be available.

All of the Dell CD's I have have Dotnet 1.1 sp1 on them.  You have to install your dots in order.  CHIPSET Should be FIRST before anything else.

There will be tons of stuff to install if you don't have even with SP3

IE8 being one. DOTNET 1.1 is on the XP CD from dell.

I strongly recommend you download the files onto a flash drive because there is no telling how long these will stay.

It wont let you backtrack.

Hi

Using Windows ADK 10 v1511, I injected the three product keys in the respective volume images of the Multiple Editions (MSDN) and Education (MSDN) isos of Windows 10 v1511.

When, however, I boot these isos, the input window of the product keys is still displayed during the first installation phase of Windows 10. Why?

How do I avoid that this window appears in order to immediately display the window that allows to choose the edition to install?

Thanks

You can't do both. You can't skip the presentation of the product key window and have it ask for which edition to install. Insert the product key for the edition you want installed in a PID.txt file:

[PID]
Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Product key goes in place of xx's obviously. Save the PID.txt file in the sources directory of the Windows 10 Install media. That will skip the product key window, but it will also define which version of Windows 10 gets installed so it will also skip the choose which version choice window as well.

Good morning from Nigeria pls i have Window Activation problem on my Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11; with the following details - Operating System=Window RT 8.1 Warranty = L505-0010-02 08/2011 License Agreement=L505-0009-02 04/2012 Model Name= 20187 Product No.= 59372538 Serial No. = xxxxx MO= R39Y33409801 I tried the Phone activation and they asked me to type in the first 6-7digit group number i see on the window Activation window to get my Product ID which i could find, pls what do i to activate my Window RT 8.1 ?
Good morning, i've called the USA toll frre phone number and still not working. I visited the site you posted to me and it shows that the Product Key of WINDOW RT 8.1 is preinstalled on the system embedded in the UEFI / BIOS firware of OEM PCs. so i did research on how to get the Product Key from the UEFI/ BIOS and i found out i will have to download a software call (NirSoft's Produkey or RWEverything) to reveal the embedded product key. The problem with this Window RT 8.1 is that, is only Application download from Window Store or Microsoft Store that can run on it. Please what do i do Now?

Hi,
I'm having trouble finding the windows 7 product key on Dell Studio 1558 laptop. I'm trying to format my drive by reinstall windows. I did install the Windows 7  that is not from OEM and now I'm planning to sell this laptop without giving away my Window 7 Installer product key, so I'm planning to reinstall windows 7 by OEM windows 7. Is it possible? Or did I just replace the Window 7 product key? Can someone help me in this case
Thank you,
Pat

A:Locating OEM Window 7 product key on Dell Studio 1558?

Depends on who the buyer is, their technical expertise and how you format the hard drive...
If you don't select format during the Windows setup there will be a Windows.old folder and the buyer can get all your old files from it.
If you just use the Windows format, the buyer can install recovery software which can get by the Windows format. It'll take a little work but it can be done.
The customer can obtain the product key if they install Belarc Advisor but that should be only for the current version of Windows installed, a determined user might be able to get the old key if you don't format and there is a Windows.old format. The old OS can be restored from the Windows.old folder for instance and BSelarc Advisor can then be used.
Your best bet is to use DBAN and completely wipe the hard drive. Only an expert in data recovery would be able to recover any data from the hard drive, it would probably be costly, time consuming and a pretty difficult job if DBAN is used. - I don't think many people would dedicate the time and resources to recover your data as statistically from a home consumer DBAN wiped system the probability of finding anything of any use to justify the time spent is probably low. For the not so through Windows format, maybe some "baddies" would have a quick look at it to see if they could find anything useful. However it is probably likely to go to a user who just want... but everytime i run hp support assistant i get this error.

Even Hp Wireless Assistant is not working or not opening at all. Recently just flash bios, then installed wireless drives and finially installed wireless assitant but still now solution. same problem not opening at all. but wireless card is working fine and i can easily connect to the internet, therefore there is no wireless problem.

Because of hp wireless assistant, i am unable to turn on Bluetooth because previously when hp wireless assistant was working at that time i had ennabled wireless and disabled bluetooth. Now i am unable to turn on the bluetooth because of this.
Can anyone suggest me any alternative way to enable the bluetooth without hp wireless assistant.

Back again

I was browsing the internet and received an in-window pop-up that looks exactly like an HP Support alert - it made a brief sound, and told me that I had program updates waiting for me on my computer).  Indeed, I do have HP alerts (mostly because they want me to update my software and I've been told not to do that).

I'm pretty certain it's just HP Support (and if it Is I'm taking previous advice to silence its notifications if it is), but if it's not what precautions should I take just to make sure it's not mal or ransomware?

Hi MML If you open the HP Support Assistant program, do you indeed have updates available and/or pending?

Occasionally, and not immediately repeatable, W8.1 will freeze when a USB flash drive or wireless adapter, camera card or DVD is inserted. There is no keyboard input, mouse pointer is on-screen but dead. Reboot needed. No error message. Event Viewer lists "unexpected shutdown." There were incidents of this in W7 as well (same hardware). BIOS setting?

Circa late 2011: I7 2600K, GTX 650, 8Mb RAM, latest BIOS

Your thoughts welcomed.

I built a new computer, w/XP Professional and have updated everything including SP2 and all of the attendent updates. Prior to SP2 my two Lite-On DVD RW drives worked fine. I installed some software and played some music. However, after the SP2 installation, if I insert a disc into the drives, the computer freezes and will not respond to any keyboard or mouse inputs, I have to hit the reset button and reboot.

I have uninstalled the drives and reinstalled, no change. If I do a clean boot with everything disabled they work fine. In safe mode I can also access the drives, but in a normal boot a disc inserted into the drives as they spin up will cause the computer to freeze.

Any ideas on what could be causing the issue?

Okay, I was going along ripping my CD library to an external hard drive. No problems. Then, out of the blue, the DVD/CD burner drive began to restart whenever I would insert a CD to rip it. I went to Dell website and updated drivers, did not help.

Replaced Power Supply, did not help.

I am ABLE to burn a disc in Roxio no problem, but whenever I insert a music disc, it restarts before it even asks me what program I want to use to open it.
I went in and unchecked the auto-restart, does not help. Still restarts anyway.

I am running a Dell Vostro 200 (1 year old) with Windows XP Pro.
I spoke with a Dell Tech who didn't even seem to know as much as I did about troubleshooting and that's not saying much! He advised reinstalling OS!! That's what they always say when they can't diagnose the problem.

I ran diagnostics and everything came out with green check marks. Says drives are working properly.

Should I try buying a new burner anyway?
Should I try running a repair to Windows?
Is this a hardware or software issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

A:Computer restarts upon insertion of CD

right or wrong I suspect a defective optical drive.......if you have another pc try the dvd/cd burner in it and see how it responds....if you do not have another pc to install it into then you should consider investing in another dvd/cd burner and replace the one you have ....verify whether its a SATA or Eide optical drive....first and get one just like it......
