I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just today, my laptop won't let me adjust the brightness, and has completely removed the option to. I am currently running on Windows 10 (64-bit) and again, just today out of nowhere does not let me adjust the brightness. The laptop battery is completely dead (it doesn't work without being plugged in) but this issue has never affected anything. I would really appreciate some help with this ASAP as the screen is damaged enough already. Thanks  UPDATE: The laptop has now completely gotten rid of the option to sleep.

I am having this problem from past 3-4 days I am unable to adjust my laptop's brightness. The functions keys for brightness won't work. I also tried changing the power settings to high performance and balanced, that also doesn't changes the brightness.
I also tried manually adjusting the screen brightness. The slider moves but the brightness is not changing.

I am using IntelR (HD) Graphics family.
I tried changing it back to Microsoft basic display adapter but that also didn't help.

I got windows 8.1 installed from the factory itself and everything was working fine until past few days.

Any suggestions??

P.S. => I am using a Lenovo G50 series laptop

A:Unable to adjust brightness in my windows 8.1

First off, figure out whether or not your laptop has an ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) which will automatically adjust the brightness (if all goes well). Usually it won't override a manual setting, but it's kind of up to the developer which one takes precedence. As for the keys not working, you probably removed (or didn't install after a Windows reinstall) the helper software that controls these functions.

I've noticed, today, that I'm suddenly unable to adjust my screen brightness. I have read half a dozen threads reporting the same problem; I tried all the solutions therein (from updating the driver and reverting to the most basic one to manually changing power configurations) and nothing worked. Unlike the vast majority of users who had this problem, this hasn't happened following an update to windows 8.1 (which I did several months ago -- and the adjust was working fine after that).

This might give you a hint:

* As I try to adjust it using the fn key (as I had always done previously), brightness goes up or down just one level -- and that just 'cosmetically', as in fact nothing changes. The indicator gets stuck approximately in the middle of the bar, unable to reach the extremes.

* There is more: on power management, I chose the lowest possible level of brightness when working on battery, just to see what would happen. I then disconnected my laptop from main power, and... the brightness indicator did go down to the lowest level, YET brightness remained unaltered in fact.

Anyone, please??

I recently purchased G50-45 series 80e300gyin notebook with AMD A8 processor and dos based. Installed windows 8 and updated to windows 8.1. Also installed (Beema) AMD Driver (VGA, HDAudio, SATA) for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) drivers but still I am unable to adjust the screen brightness, by default it is at full. Please help me to resolve this issue.

A:Unable to adjust brightness- G50-45 80E300GYIN

hi nikunjpadhiar,
Welcome to the Forums.
When you installed the (Beema) AMD Driver, did you remove any previous traces of the AMD Display driver?
If not, can you try the following:
1. Navigate to the Control Panel (Icon Views) > Programs and Features and uninstall anything that relates to AMD Display Driver / AMD Control Center.and reboot. When finished, navigate to the Device Manager > Display Adapters and the driver should show a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
2. Install the (Beema) AMD Driver (VGA, HDAudio, SATA) for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and reboot. When done, the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the Device Manager should now change to an AMD Radeon Display and check if you can now adjust the brgithness.
In addition, check this post by marcus34 as he was able to resolve the issue.

I have a HP Notebook 15 running on Windows 10. The Processor is Intel Celeron N2840. I recently Refreshed my Laptop To get rid of some useless softwares. After this refresh, Im not able to Adjust the screen Brightness through Display settings (the Option to adjust the Brightness is unavailable) or Keyboard (F2,F3) and the button in the Action Center to adjust brightness is also not available which I used to have Before. Also I updated my Intel Graphics Driver as directed in many Websites and also the Monitor Driver. But all these methods are not fixing my trouble. Further more, The "fn" key in keyboard is also not functioning, so im kinda' screwed with all these trouble.  It would be very helpful if anyone can mention any fix, Thanks In Advance !. P.S. I suddenly was unable to adjust the brightness on this 3-day-old laptop.  Moving the slider from zero to 100% didn't change the light. I don't have an adaptive brightness setting. Google searches had me disable the sensor monitoring service, which did nothing. A user suggested rebooting while holding down Shift-F12 until reaching desktop.  This worked!  I can once again adjust brightness.  My questions: 1.  WHAT did Shift-F12 do?2.  Should I reenable sensor monitoring service?

I have a Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332, with a AMD A6-4400M APU processor with integrated graphics. My display adapter, according to device manager, is a AMD Radeon HD 7520G.

Now, my problem is that I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness of my laptop. I haven't made any recent changes, and I noticed this about a week or so ago(I don't typically change my laptop brightness, so this could have been happening for longer). In the mean time, I've tried rolling back my display drivers, with no success, and also updating to the latest driver set, which has also not worked. I'm not sure where to go from now, does anyone have any ideas to fix this?

A:Unable to adjust laptop screen brightness

Welcome to the Forums.
What happens when you try to adjust the brightness? Is there no setting? Setting grayed out? Or you change the setting but nothing happens?

If it changes for an instant, then reverts to what it was, adaptive brightness may be enabled.

In the past few days my laptop has been behaving oddly. At first it would not allow me to adjust the brightness, neither with the function keys nor the slider. This would happen after it awakened from sleep.
It also does not like to restart now. It hangs at the "Restarting" screen until I force it to turn off by holding the power button.
In, addition, the keyboard stopped functioning. This has only happened once, though.
I ran system file check from the command line. It found corrupted files, but was unable to fix them. I ran it again in "Safe Mode" and got the same results.
I tried rolling back the display adapter. This did not solve the problem either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Using the laptop on battery, when I press on F11-12, the brightness meter is shown on the upper left like usual, but it won't move up or down.  Yet I think it's strange that all other places I can adjust brightness are fine, and especially strange that everything is working totally fine on AC power.
I tried uninstalling the Generic PnP monitor and reinstalling, but to no results.  Also, both my power settings on battery and on power indicate no adaptive brightness.

My screen brightness using FN+F11/F12 and also in the advanced power settings slider won't adjust the screen to anything other than brightness and minimum or brightness to 100% when I move the slider.  It shows the percentage moving up and down, but the screen stays 100% until I'm on the lowest setting,  then it goes right to minimum.  I received a bunch of Lenovo updates on the first Wednesday of this month and I've had several issues since then, I tried reverting back to previous drivers, but it made no difference, so I'm back on the latest drivers.

Beginning today, I opened my laptop from sleep and noticed the display was at its lowest brightness setting. I then tried to restart it to see if that would solve it, no luck. I did some googling and found out it could be a problem with the graphics driver. I then disabled it and enabled it. Now the brightness is at its max settings.

The function (FN) + F4, F5 (the keys to adjust the brightness settings) do nothing. The brightness status will show up on the screen and only change 1 or 2 notches.

I then realized I should have a way to adjust the brightness via the Power Settings in the Control Panel. I even confirmed this with a friend. I should have the sliders to adjust the brightness but I do not. It's very strange.

Hey guys, so I've been having some problems since I updated to Windows 8.1. My screen is stuck on dim. It's not dim enough to be unusable, but it's dim enough that I wish I could turn the brightness up. Same goes for using the settings charm brightness bar and adjusting via control panel. I am able to move the brightness bar up and down but nothing happens. First, I tried a system restore but that did not work. I went back about a month which was the earliest restore point I had. Then I went to device driver and looked to see if my driver was functioning properly. I was told it was updated and functioning properly. I tried clicking on the windows generic monitor driver also as advised which did nothing. I went to the device driver on the pc and updated from that which also did not work. I am using windows 10.

I have had an Asus laptop with windows 8.1 for almost two years. Two days ago, I found that I can no longer adjust the brightness. When I use F5/F6 the brightness bar goes up and down between two levels but the screen brightness isn't changing. This has happened before but fixed itself within a day. This doesn't seem to be happening this time. I have checked some solutions to this problem but most people seem to have this problem after an update or upgrade to windows 8.1. This is the same operating system I have been using for two years and, as far as I can tell, there has been no update in the last week. I've checked the drivers and there doesn't seem to have been a recent update.

I've installed Windows 7 on my Qosmio G30-140 but I'm having trouble adjusting the brightness settings.
Instead of allowing me to set the slider to any position I want I'm stuck with only 3 steps from which to choose from.

What's going on? I've installed the correct Nvidia drivers.

Hi there. I've installed a clean version of Windows 10 Home 64 bit, and, noticed that, with the basic Microsoft display adapter driver, I would be able to adjust screen brightness and would get maximum resolution as well. How ever, even though I disabled automatic driver updating in Windows before I first connected my laptop to the internet, it still proceeded to download a driver that it got via Windows update which ruins the adjusting of brightness. I tried to install the 64-bit Windows 8 driver that is available at support.lenovo.com but that one has the same problem, I can't adjust screen brightness when using it. I've got the newest version of Windows Media Player 9 series on my XP Home edition. The video is very dark, even though my monitor Brightness is set to 100%. I know that when I have media actually playing, I can go to: View/Enhancements/Video Settings/ and set the Brightness to a higher setting, and this works fine. The only problem, is that when that media stops playing, the Brightness setting resets to the default, which is too dark. Besides being a hassle to set the Brightness where I want it every single time I use the Media Player, if I go to a web site that has a built-in Windows Media Player, there is no way for me to adjust that video, which is also always too dark. So I need to know how to adjust the Brightness setting on Windows Media Player so that it won't automatically reset to the default. Any ideas?

A:Windows 7 Enterprise x64bit [ Cant adjust screen brightness ]

What driver pack? Win7 is a driver-complete OS after you enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all rounds of Impotant and Optional Windows Updates until no more are offered when doing a Check for Updates after reboot.

Any drivers then missing should be imported from the HP Support Downloads webpage for your exact model.

If you have an HP then don't reimport any of the HP bloatware but sometimes a piece of software is required to make the hotkeys function correctly. You'll need to study the software posted for your model to see which is required. If you tell us the exact model and link us to the webpage we can often spot it for you if you need help.

Hopefully you followed the other steps for a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 because you will get and keep a perfect install to the exact extent you stick with the tools and methods given.

If you forced a bunch of old drivers into an OS which provides its own drivers then you will have problems.

Hello,Laptop which is facing the problem, is Lenovo Z500.Windows 10.A problem that is known, but I can not deal with it.I installed 5 different drivers for the integrated graphics card, changed the parameter in the register FeatureTestControl parameter to FFFF, I installed various energy management. I changed the HD4000 driver to the basic one from Microsoft.Nothing helps - when clicking the dash / dimming, a bar appears, which moves as it should, but the screen is still the same dark.As I enter the settings -> screen, and there I set the slider, strange things happen, the screen goes self-darkening, dims itself, literally as if the laptop had a light intensity sensor ..The BIOS can be used to light up the screen, it shines as it should, it does not get dark, etc. The matrix is okay.Anyone have any suggestions on what you can do here?Actually, for me, brightness can be 100% all the time, but the way with FFFF in the registry does not help.

Well the title says it all... I updated Windows and brightness is now locked on minimum. Even if I press F12 or go into the settings, the brightness bar will fill but the screen won't show any changes at all. Sorry if I mispelled anything but I can barely see on this screen due to this issue. Can someone please enlighten me? Literally.
