Need help booting from USB lenovo yoga 13

Q: Need help booting from USB lenovo yoga 13

Hi guys,I fresh reinstalled windows yesterday and allowed it to collect updates overnight, including drivers. This morning I wake up and powering on the machine, I am greeted with a recovery screen. Selecting exit and continue brings me back to the recovery screen.I tried refreshing it from that screen, though it asks for recovery media, of which there appears to be none, even when I have a properly configured and bootable recovery media USB key inserted. As a recovery bootable device I use a lexar 8 gb USB drive. The machine has no optical drive. The only thing I can gather is that USB and or legacy boot mode are not enabeled. As I am totally blind, I have very little knowledge of the bios of this particular device, and any decent explanations are scarce.I know how to get to them (press f2 for bios and f12 for boot menu I believe) though anything else is beyond me.Could somebody tell me what to press at the keyboard to enable USB mode, and or legacy mode, if that particular option is needed? And by the way, for those curious about how I gathered information about the recovery screens, I use an app called seeing AI, which takes screenshots of anything you tell it to, and tries to tel you what it sees.Even with good lighting, the seeing AI app isn't of much use to help navigating the bios menu. Most problematic, I can't tell exactly what order the app sees the options, as compared to what order they are actually in.I would be most greatful if anyone could help, as this is the only machine I've got, a lenovo t410, and I need my yoga 13 for school work. Thanks everyone!

We use a variety of model of laptop and workstation and build them using Microsoft ConfigMgr (SCCM), using PXE boot to get into Windows PE, where SCCM then applies the image and software. We are finding the Lenovo units take a long time (between 7 and 15 minutes) to proceed from when we start the PXE boot and when the unit loads into Windows PE.  It sits there saying "Loading files..." and thats where it sits for that time. Lower spec'd models, such as DELL 7xxx series, proceed much quicker.  We are using Secure Boot, with UEFI when we PXE boot.  We use same settings on DELLs when we PXE boot. If anyone is also experiencing this issue, we would love to know a fix, as it is adding build time to what is otherwise a fantastic unit.

Try and boot with charger plugged in. If this works try installing the latest updates you may have restart and install more than once so be patient. If this doesn't work check with your device maker.

I am having an issue with our Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga's connecting to our MDT 2012 server.  When I boot to Windows PE and try to connect to the deployment share I receive the message, "no networking devices found on this machine!."  I was able to find a link to MDT drivers on the Lenovo site https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht074984.  I have imported this driver into MDT and created a selection profile. I have ensured that the driver is in the boot image.  I have also tried injecting the drivers manually while booted into PE.  Just for good measure I even tried the drivers for the Think Pro One Link Dock and for the USB to ethernet dongle.  I have researched the web for solutions on this issue and tried all that I have found thus far. Oh by the way I have even totally recreated the MDT server from scratch and I still have this issue with the Yoga. I have other models of Lenovo computers and I can connect to the MDT server in PE on these machines.  Any advice or assistance would be highly appreciated as I am under the gun to get this up and working.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Disclaimer: I received the Yoga 920 as a review loaner unit from Lenovo. All opinions are my own, nobody is paying for my review, and no one is reviewing this content before it's posted.

Left: Yoga 920 in Bronze. Right: Yoga 910 in Silver

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Hardware & Design
Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

The Yoga 920 also has a little slit on the display lid that makes it much easier to open the lap... Read more

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

A:Lenovo Yoga 910 wont load pass the Lenovo screen.

Try getting into BIOS first and loading default settings. To do this, press the small "Novo" button (you'll need a paperclip for this), and select "BIOS setup". From there, use the arrow keys to get to the "exit" tab and select load default settings.

If this doesn't work, let me know.

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created

Moreover, I was wondering if the Lenovo Active Pen also looses contact when writing if you hold the pen close to the nub. Thanks! for your help

A:Lenovo yoga 920 compatible with Lenovo active pen

Hi huQbbTCi,

Greetings.

Lenovo active pen 1 is also compatible with Yoga 920 as shown in the accessories search tool here PART # GX80K32884. It would be less sensitive to depth perception but with palm rejection enabled then you may not have the same issue on losing contact with it.

It would also be favorable to have it tried first before any purchase specially if you have someone that have it and compare it with other active pens whichever would be comfortable and efficient to your writing style.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Initial problem:On the  29th June 2016 my laptop suddenly turned off and now only the backlit keyboard lights up and goes off again and the power button just goes on and off. After about 5 minutes of use before the error the screen went blue and shut down. After restarting, as it went onto the desktop the screen flickered constantly and was unusable. I then turned it off again and it wont turn on since. My issue now:Anyway after emailing lenovo, and sending it off they said it was the RAM. However after enquiring over a month after sending it off and paying for the repair they replied with:'We have received feedback from our repair provider in relation to your device in repair. Unfortunately due to non-availability of parts we are unable to complete this repair. We will send your faulty device back to you free of charge. Hello,    I am looking to replace my aging Lenovo T420S and Lenovo x1 Carbon 1st generation. They have both served me well and I am happy with both.  I like the touch of Carbon but don?t use it that often. The machine will be perosnla machine but will be used for personal and business/work use. I saw the T460S and x1 Yoga yesterday at our IT department. I like the built quality of Lenovo T460S including keyboard but found X1 Yoga to be fragile. I couldn?t get my hands on X1 Carbon 4th generation and found out that it doesn?t have touch anymore. The weight difference is minimal between the three machines and I personally like the weight, feel and ruggedness of Lenovo T460S. Bottom line is does anyone have experience with these three machines? I can afford to replace only one machine now and it will be fully loaded (i7, 16GB and 1Tb PCIe-NVME drive). Is x1 Yoga rugged and reliable? The difference between X1 Carbon 4th Gen and T460S seems minimal. Thank You!Subhash

I created a bootable USB stick using my backup program (EaseUS Todo) in both flavors that they allow (WinPE and Linux). In both cases the USB sticks would not boot even after disabling fast boot and enabling USB booting in the BIOS. Then I tried selecting Legacy USB support and still the USB sticks would not boot. (They would not show up in the boot menu). Finally however if I selected the BIOS option "Legacy First", then finally I could boot to either USB stick. However then after removing the USB stick, the computer could not boot to the C drive. I would have to go back into the BIOS and remove the Legacy First setting. Isn't there a way to set up the BIOS so that it boots to the USB stick if it is found and otherwise boots to the C drive? I've gotten this to work on other computers so I was surprised that I couldn't do this on the Yoga 2 ?? Thanks~Paul

Hi,After an unsuccessful support call with Lenovo Ideaxxx technical support, they referred me to the Community. I have a new Yoga 710 in our environemtn that I need to PXE boot for our provisioning workflow.  WIth the Yoga 12 Thinkpads, we use the Lenovo USB-Ethernet adapter and it works fine.  The Yoga 710 doesn't see the USB-Ethernet adapter as a bootable option -- I've disabled secure boot, enabled legacy boot, and enabled PXE boot over LAN in the BIOS. If anyone is PXE booting a Yoga 710, what adapter are you using?   Thanks!

I could boot up with it and use the utilities on it but none of the utils could "see" my drives on the Yoga 720.I'm tied up in a knot and could use some guidance.  I basically want to be able to boot from a USB drive to use some favorite utilties like Macrium reflect, minitool partition manager, etc.

I remember having this same issue with my X50-70 years ago but found a fix. Anyone knows about this issue and how to fix it?I mean, it is not extreme, but at least my 4 year old lenovo should not boot faster than my brand new 3rd gen x1 yoga.... I hope at least. Thanks!

Hi guysI have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1 (Type 20CD-00ALMZ) which was working fine during the last 10 months, but now refuses to boot. I use it every day at work on the desk docking station with external sreen and keyboard, mouse. The last three days I could not start it over the button on the docking station, only by the hard button on itself.Today was totally end, even over the hard button it doesn't start anymore. The behaviour is the fallowing:-push on/off button-the "i" light on the logo comes up and the fan turns high for about 3 seconds-sreen stays off-after that it goes off totally for about 1 second and starts again with the same behavior-this boot loop continues until I close it and it stops starting over again Anyone having an idea about it?Thanks and best Regards

Hi Stibus,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with No POST on your ThinkPad Yoga.
Remove the AC power adapter and try to reset the computer through emergency-reset hole.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I have a first generation Lenovo ThinkPad x1 Carbon. It runs Windows 7 professional. Lately the fan has been really loud and only starts by revving aggressively. I've cleaned it out and reinstalled power manager but it still starts with the scary revving and doesnt sound too hot. Any ideas? It's refurbished and I've had it for about two years--is this just whats to be expected with a relately old laptop?
