Thinkpad Yoga S1 shut down problem? OS shuts down ...

Q: Thinkpad Yoga S1 shut down problem? OS shuts down ...

When shutting down the laptop after a few hours of use, the OS (win10 x64) will shutdown normally, but the red led on the thinkpad logo will remain on. (same whether im on battery, on plugged in). I noticed this issue after finding out my fully charged battery was completely empty when I tried turning it on. However, when I only use the laptop for at most an hour or less and shut down, It will be fine and everything will be powered off. This problem only occurs during long hours of use and then I would have to hold the power button to completely shutdown. What I have tried so far:Disabling Hibernate, SleepUpdated Bios to GQET47WW (1.27) 9/23/2015Disabled Fast Startup* *What I have noticed after disabling fast startup was that before, it would usually blink red until the battery is completely discharged. After disabling fast startup, the problem still occurs but instead the LED is a solid RED until the battery is discharged. Are there any other options I can use to fix this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Laptop works fine on charger but as soon as I remove the charger it shuts off. I tried a different battery and charging cable but it still doesn't work. It won't even charge the battery, there seems to be an X symbol where the battery is? It doesn't seem like it detecting the battery at all. Anyone got an idea what it could be?

A:Thinkpad Yoga 14 laptop just shuts off instantly

Hi Sanjay Phirke,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I think there might be some loose contact between internal battery and the system board.

Try with resetting the system from Emergency reset hole, which will be at the bottom of the laptop.
Emergency-reset hole

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi there
I have a Yoga 14" Ultrabook and it will shut itself off when you move it also (with lid open) hold it near the thinkpad logo on the right side.

I have taken the keyboad and bottom off and could not find any loose connections or damage.

Any ideas? Been searching internet with no luck. is it a SSD thing maybe it thinks it's being dropped?

Any help would be great
thanks

Lenovo ThinkPads has a feature where it would turn off the hard drive when it detects it's being dropped. But I don't think that's present on SSDs because they don't rely on mechanical platers. I'd suggest getting the unit repaired with Lenovo. Visit http://support.lenovo.com

I also have 20DM-000VUS, not sure about the original BIOS version though since I downgraded using the files on the Lenovo site (but definitely downgraded).

I just got my laptop back from the shop and I\ve been running it for ~1 hour now and so far so good. The shop replaced Power and IO Subcards "FRU 00HN613 and FRU 00HN612".

PS. Now the left USB is not working at all. Afaik it was also replaced. Already talked to the shop and I have to take the laptop back, they will replace it again.

A:Re: Thinkpad S3 Yoga 14 - Random shut offs when no...

I just recently got the new Thinkpad Yoga 14, and I can't say I'm very happy with it. Windows 8.1 is pretty weird, but I guess Lenovo can't do anything about that. However, I am having a problem that seems to be a problem with the machine rather than the software. Frequently, the computer will just shut off without warning. This can happen as soon as I unplug the computer from its charger, or it can happen several minutes after being unplugged. The battery icon says that there is over 90% battery remaining, so it shouldn't be dying. It's very frustrating because there is no warning, no error notification (unless I just don't know where to look). The computer can be turned on immediately after without any problem, and the battery icon still shows a very high power percentage. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Hello out there, I wanted to do a fresh post about this issue as I see that no one has resolved it yet. My Lenovo Thinkpad 12's f1 key has an indicator light that is supposed to turn on or off depending on if it is muted or not. However, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 pro, it seems that the light has been on ever since. It could be unrelated, as this is simply when I started noticing the issue, but it's worth noting. Specs:ThinkPad Yoga 12Windows 8.1 Proi5, 128 Gb SSD, 8 GB RAM Troubleshooting already tried:Restarting the machineTurning the machine on / offInstalling Windows updatesInstalling Lenovo updates (note I did not do all of them as some were only recommended and not required and I did not want a bunch of bloat ware on my PC)Plugging in a wired headset and toggling the f1 key

Double posting my solution here in: Download and install the Hotkeys Integration for Windows 8.1: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-... Hope this works for you.

Hi! So I keep having this problem where I try to download something, for example, clip studio paint, ProctorU or the Discord chat desktop app, and receive an error message when I got to open the folder to finish the download and the error message I screenshotted and is shown below. For the ProctorU I was able to get it to work by running it as an administrator, which was lucky as that doesn't work every time. I am not sure what to do about this or whether or not this is a problem with the computer itself?(And yes these were all from the official safe sites) if anyone can help, I would be very appreciative >.<

Hi I just bought a brand new Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM009GUS) and found the left corner squeaks a lot. I am hesitating whether I should return it or ask for a replacement. Could you let me know whether your TPY 14 has the same problem? If this is a common problem, it would be useless to ask for a replacement. Also, do you have any good method to fix the problem? Thank you for the help!

A:how to fix thinkpad yoga 14 squeaking problem?

Hi cnj

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM008UUS). But i don't have any squeaking. Where is it on the left corner, next to the hinge? Does it make that noise when you close it, change it to tablet mode or tent mode?

Of you mean the plastic?  If I press (with medium force) the right corner on the Thinkpad logo, next to the power button, at that point I get some light squeaking for making some preassuare of the plastic. Is that one? I didn't notice it since you make it preassure that place harder, I don't hear that on normal Thinkpad operation and typing.

Hi, Let me first explain what has been the path with my S1 for you to better understand the issue. At first i had ghosting problem and i decided to replace the screen, at the same time the notebook began to show some more problems, it would not boot at all some times until it went dead. At that point i decided to change the motherboard also. My model originally came with i7-4500, but i decided to get a motherboard with i5-4200.So now i have both changed the screen and the motherboard. Luckily the notebook is working now and seems all fine except the autorotation. I have done some reading and i know that it might be some issue with windows 10, but my concern is that it might be a hardware problem also related to the motherboard and lcd change. In Device manager i see the HID sensor collection v2 installed correctly but its not working. Also i noticed that when i change to tablet mode the touchpad does not disable, and i wonder if that might be a sensor issue too.So my main question is where is the sensor responsible for the autorotaion located?? i have a doubt if it is the p-sensor located under the battery but im not sure. What do tou guys think, should i investigate further in the software side or it might be hardware problem?? Thanks.

Hi everybody, I got a very strange problem which I was unable to solve yet: My ThinkPad Yoga won't work with BitLocker. After initiation of the "BitLocker system test", it boots to the blue "BitLocker screen" - still, the PIN which was set before is not accepted. After cancellation of the test, Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 Update 1) states that the test failed, because the TPM could not be written. While doing some troubleshooting, I recognized that BIOS states the TPM being in "MFG Mode" (= manufacturing mode?); this might be caused by a motherboard change done by the Lenovo service approx. 1 month ago. My question is:Does anybody know how to make the TPM leave "MFG mode" or any other solution to this problem? Thanks in advance!  Best regards, David  picture: sytem infos picture: TPM infos

A:ThinkPad Yoga - BitLocker- / TPM-problem

I noticed this when I had a Yoga returned from repair, the motherboard has been replaced twice, once to cure the original fault, the second time to try to get the chip out of Mfg Mode. The person I spoke to at the IBM hardware call centre hadn't come across this before. The yoga has been decrypted and encrypted again, and totally rebuilt.  In both cases the TPM chip seemed to work.I am trying to work out a way of testing the bitlocker is actually working, i.e. it will ask for a bitlocker key if it detects any interference.I am slightly worried that we are not able to clear the chip.Any input from Lenovo/IBM would be appreciated.

Hello, I recently updated my BIOS for this laptop to the current version (1.40), and now I'm having problems with the stability of my system (god do I regret it). I used this update utility here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds111756  Now, whenever I start up my system, a Thinkvantage screen pops up briefly, followed by a screen that says "(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed". I can manage to boot into either OS I have on here after that. But, when I put the laptop into sleep mode, upon waking it will just have a blank screen, followed by 4 beeps in short succession of each other, 4 times. The only way to get past this is to power down the laptop via holding the power button, and then rebooting back into the same instance of behavior described above.  I haven't had much luck finding any solutions, and I'm a little afraid to try anything since I don't want to completely brick my system. Looking for any suggestions, please. Thank you for your time. ~ Brooks

This is meant as a bug report. Hopefully someone from Lenovo is reading this. I have a ThinkPad Yoga X1 (1st gen). A few days ago, the System Update utility updated the touchpad driver to version 19.3.4.119. I'm having 2 issues: 1) I do not use my touchpad and therefore disable it. However, every time my machine comes out of sleep or reboots, the touchpad is re-enabled. I disable it "correctly" by going to (Start Menu) -> (Mouse Settings) -> (Additional Mouse Options) -> (ThinkPad tab) -> Uncheck "Enable touchpad".  2) If I enable the touchpad and click the settings button next to "Enable touchpad", the Synaptics Control Panel window appears. This window is very unresponsive. And when I click on the "Click" tab, I get repeated errors that "The parameter value is invalid."  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver to no avail. I cannot find an older version of the driver at Lenovo's website. Please fix.

Hi, Today I updated BIOS to 1.38 version and then my touch screen was suddenly gone. I read all related posts here and now I am convinced that it is the problem because of the BIOS update. Because I am using my X1 Yoga as a touch machine for my work, I checked right after my BIOS update and it is not working. I tried downgrade and windows rollback but it did not turn back. My warranty is over but it is not my fault for sure. I am still fighting with "260 will not wake up from sleep problem" described in my post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-260-cannot-wake-up-from-s... I tried everything, fresh restore (5 times), boot from linux live, the laptop can't manage correct sleep, hybernation and even a simple shutdown. I can only switch on and off by pressing power button for more than 10 seconds. I tried to update the bios (from the lenovo website or from a bootable ISO) but it does just half of the job, when it tries to restart do finalize the process it goes again in a frozen state and can only restart by pressing power button for long time. Ok my laptop is out of warranty, but this has been clearly caused by a lenovo update, before that the lapotp was performing perfectly. There are several people with thinkpad reporting the same problem, lot of them with my same 260. The last one IDENTICAL problem 4 days ago: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Yoga-260-Does-not-wake-up/m-p/3930549 This is unacceptable, I went to a lenovo assistance and they asked me 750euros to change the motherboard. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LENOVO. I would like to hear an opinion from a Lenovo operator reading this forum, if any.

Hello,I have an issue with the laptop mistakenly thinking it's been flipped into tablet mode on my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga (Machine Type Model: 20CDS02C00). This tends to happen at degree about 100-120 degrees, which are still normal viewing angels. The symptoms are that the keyboard and mousepad stop working, and occasionally the screen will also tilt to the left or right (portrait orientation) even though you are sitting completely level. The only way to force it back to standard laptop mode I have found is to put the computer in sleep mode, and turn it on again right after. This trick works about half the time. It does not work to put the screen back to a 90 degree viewing angle. Is it possible to disable the automatic change from laptop to tablet mode to the other? How?  Thanks as always for the amazing forum support!!

I received a USB device not recognized which cycled during a session and seemed to screw up other parts of the system. Thinking it was a driver issue I uninstalled all the ASIX drivers and removed all the driver packages associated with the ASIX AX88179 and AX88178 controller   (see:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730875.aspx  ). Then ran Windows update which downloaded yet another ASIX package. I downloaded both the Win 7 and Win 8 driver packages from ASIX, unzipped and looked these over.  I modified the *.inf files and deleted all the non-english segments with asian or Russian characters at the end of the file leaving only the English segment and saved these on the C: drive.  (http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=131) I reloaded the OneLink drivers from Lenovo.  Ethernet not recognized. From Device Manager,  I tried to update the Ethernet controller driver to the new downloaded, modified Win 8 driver and received the message that the driver was the current driver so it would not update. Instead, I had DM browse for the Windows 7 driver, and loaded that.  Ethernet not recognized. Then I had DM browse for the modified Windows 8 driver.  Thi... A:One Onelink dock Thinkpad Yoga problem solved.

Wow, glad that you found a solution! Hope you donīt mind if I ask a few questions, just so that I understand better what to do? 1. Would you mind providing a little more info on what you exaclty removed in the Win 8 .inf driver file from Asix? 2. When you mention īDM loaded the modified driverī, I take it you mean the modified Asix inf driver, not the one you downloaded from Lenovo?3. In your estimation, is the USD2 dongle step required?thanks again.cheers,Olof

Hello guys, This is my first post, so I am sorry if I will make any mistakes. The reason I am writing this post is because I can't find a solution to my problem. In January 2015 I have bought my ThinkPad Yoga s1, which by the way is a great laptop, except one problem. In April 2016 my laptop started overheating, even in standby and with the fan working. The laptop was in warranty and also now it still has 317 days left, but i have personal data on and I don't want to format and install the Windows again. Even if do this, i am sure the guys there will say, it's normal for the laptop to heat up. So I went ahead and disassembled it, thinking that it had dust in it or the thermal paste was not doing the job. I have cleaned the laptop which by the way didn't have that much dust in it, cleaned the heatsink and processor to add the new thermal paste. Nothing has change, still overheating. At that moment I realised that the heatsink is not doing the job, transporting the heat from the processor to the radiator where the fan blows. I knew about this problem because in the past I had an Acer that had a similar problem, but after 5 years of using it roughly. I had bought a new heatsink changed it added my thermal paste and it worked perfect until this month. So it worked almost one year  Now I have bought a new heatsink, changed it and it works OK again. But I wonder for how long??? Down below is a phot... Read more

Hello, i noticed that when i'm turned on laptop to tablet mode (physically) wifi stops working or wifi signal becoming very low.  I'm using Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14. Maybe you have a solution for this problem?

A:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14, wifi problem on tablet mo...

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Regards

Hi all, I've been reading tonnes of threads here trying to solve my problems (which seem to keep getting worse) to no avail. I'm reaching out to anyone that can suggest some help before I end up bricking my yoga by accident or running it over on purpose. I'll give you a timeline of the events. The machine in question is a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12.5" 20CD-0032USIntel Core i5 4200U 1.60GHz Processor4GB Ram128GB SSDWindows 8.1 64 Bit preloaded (recently upgraded to Windows 10) So the saga begun just a short two days ago. I had some spare time at home and decided to download and install my free upgrade to Windows 10. I backed up all of my important documents etc to OneDrive as I intended on performing a clean install. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to support.lenovo.com and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. How great, I thought, that Lenovo would have a BIOS update read... Read more

I'd try to re-update the BIOS using the same version, but from a flash drive instead of from within Windows. Maybe something went wrong with it (updater doesn't properly support Windows 10?).There's a few ways to put the bootable BIOS update ISO onto a flash drive, but there's a guide for one here:http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_Upgrade#Booting_from_a_USB_Flash_drive
