I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to load my college physiology labs and the computer will not let me open any of them. A couple of the warnings I get are:
1. To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer. Click here for options.
2. An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet options for potential conflicts.
I have gone through and tried to change my security settings in my tools and nothing changes. Every time I get the first warning I click to allow them to run and then I get a small box that asks me if I want to run the scripts and I click yes and it comes back 3 more times. I always click yes and after the 4th time it finishes opening the window and I get a blank page that says done at the bottom. I am so frustrated and I am running out of time. Classes have already begun and I am getting farther and farther behind. I have no idea how to get the add-on and I trust the site and everything. I just can't seem to get anywhere with it. Can somebody help me please?
I also get a pop-up when I start my computer that says something could not open because one or more activeX controls were not able to run. I also wanted to add that the disc I am trying to run is physio-EX version 8, laboratory simulations in Physiology and it comes from pearson education.

Hey sorry if this question has been posted before but I am having major trouble with my pc . I use Internet Cleanup to clean up my Internet files recently I have been having problems with the ActiveX Erase section. When it is scanning for ActiveX Controls it finds 8 of them but....I erased the Oscashe folder and the Downloaded Program files where the others usually are is empty. When I try to erase the 8 that are left the program freezes and loxks forcing me to end the program. Is ther any other way to search for these active X contraols that could be affecting my system. By the way I am running Office XP Pro...the log file says that there was an error in the user32.dll??? file think thats what it is. THnka you for any help ANYONE can give it is greatly appreciated.

Hiya and welcome

Are you saying you have manually deleted all the ActiveX controls in the Download folder?

If so, this could be the cause of some problems. They are needed to access Web Pages, and stuff that is used offline, such as Codecs for Media Player.

Where are the 8 that it cannot delete, and what are they called? These may be the ones that are needed by your system. Not all ActiveX files are harmful.

This folder that you erased: Oscashe. What was the destination of the folder?

I'm receiving the following messages when using IE6: "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly."

Another problem is, when logging onto Yahoo, I'm receiving the following message: "The browser you're using refuses to sign in. (cookies rejected)"

Thanks in advance. Paul

A:ActiveX Controls

You are getting these messages because you have made a sound judgement about your security settings---you have restricted running activeX and allowing cookies. You may wish to put Yahoo into your safe zone, as well as whatever else you are trying to access that you TRUST COMPLETELY, and allow both activeX to run and cookies to be accepted for these.

I have Windows 2000 -

I am able to open explorer windows but I immediately get this massage: "Your Current Security Settings Prohibit Running Activex Controls On This Page"

No folders or files are visible in the window.

I believe this is from a virus but I ran avg and found none. I ran spybot and found none. Though something is trying to start and spybot is busier than a one armed paper hanger.

I've been having trouble lately with firefox hanging up and not being able to keep up with a typing program or play videos. So I looked in to see the processes that were running and tried to find stuff that looked suspicious. I deleted something called upp.exe unplugged some stuff from msconfig startup menue. Msconfig doesn't come with win2k but downloaded it somewhere and it's worked great for years. Anyway, I started having strange things happen, like IE started up by it's self and started playing some advertisements. I knew something fishy was going on so I started AVG and spybot and set avg to shut down after running the scan. I also disabled my internet connection. When I got on the computer this morning I could not enable the connection. I can see the connection in "Network Connections" but can't right click on it. I get that message as soon as I open Network connections - "Your Current Security Settings Prohibit Running Activex Controls On This Page"

I was able to change the view in folder options and now I can at least see the folders. I went to view > customize folder > Chose or edit template for this folder > used the "simple" selection. It's kind of funky looking but I can see the folders now. I have to do this for each window I open. Frustrating.

As far as I know, Firefox does not use Active X because of the fact that ActiveX can be a huge security risk. If you need this done, run internet explorer. If you do not have a link on your desktop for it, go to start>run> type in "iexpore" and hit ok.

Apparently that is a 'residue file' from some Adobe (?) software having used their download manager.

Normally it gets erased, but sometimes sticks around.

A:ActiveX controls

ActiveX controls are small programs that are downloaded to allow your internet browser to run "some" internet application properly.
Example: VPN or remote computer connections through your browser, internet picture editing, online programs that do the job of other programs like Microsoft's internet exchange which acts as a internet version of Outlook email.

Now that you understand what activeX controls are, you can see that they
can be very dangerous especially if malware or viruses use them for harmful purposes,
but they can be very helpful for doing such things as I pointed out in the above paragraph.

Here is another angle on what activeX controls do: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/terms/activex.aspx
How to disable them:
"START" menu > "Control Panel" > "Internet Options" > "Security" tab > go down to "Custom Level" > scroll down to "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" > "Disable"

How to delete previously installed activeX controls:
Open "Internet Explorer" > "Tools" menu > "Manage Add-ons" > a list of activeX controls should come up and you can select any and press "Disable"
How to delete activeX controls in IE 7: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ht/disableie7activ.htm

Hope this helped

For the application to run, security settings in the "Internet Options" are defaulted to low and all the options concerning the Activex Controls are enabled. And now when an Internet explorer Update is done all the Activex Controls fail to Load.

Is there any way that we can stay current with the version update of IE and still make Ocx controls to load in the web pages?

I believe that IE, and Windows itself, need Active X to function properly (see this Wikipedia article); http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ActiveX

I have no idea how many such controls are needed, nor how to tell a 'good' one from a 'bad' one! As mentioned in the article, the controls are necessary but, unfortunately, are frequently used to install malware, which is one of the reasons why I stopped using IE some time ago.

I am trying to allow users to install a Crystal Reports ActiveX control, which enables them to view content in Internet Explorer. By default the User group in Windows does not allow for ActiveX installation (have to be at least power user), which is why you have to use the group policy. I have figured out how to make this work, but the problem is that the control is not installing right.

There are 4 controls that are installed when you visit the webpage that needs the control, which actually only uses 2 different .cab files. Microsoft says that you can use Visual Studio Installer 1.1 to package files into an .msi file. The .msi file is needed to insert in the Software Installation part of the Group Policy. I took the .cab file and added it to my project in Visual Studio and packaged it as an .msi file and placed it on a shared network drive. When the user now visits the website, the msi installation process starts (which it should), and installs the file. However, this is where it goes wrong. Instead of installing the control, placing files in the system directory, it only creates a folder in Progam Files and simply inserts the .cab file into it. It doesn't actually install the control, only places a .cab file in a folder...never extracting it and installing.

Can anyone help?
Note: I think it has something to do with Visual Studio Installer, because when I looked at the project (msi) properties, there was an option for installation source. There were four different o... Read more

Hi.
I don't know if this is the right forum for my problem.
Anyway,
I have a problem with my Windows Services.
Each time when I launch Windows Services window, I get a warning:

One or more activex controls could not be displayed because either:
1. your current security settings prohibit running activex
controls on this page, or
2. you have blocked a publisher of one of the controls.
as a result, the page may not display correctly.

The warning pop-up opens only when I click on Extended tab.
The problem has nothing to do with IE security, because I can open pages with ActiveX controls on them and so.

I have installed Spybot spyware/malware removal tool. Then uninstalled it.
I'm not sure if this is the cause of the problem. But I presume it is.
So, may be someone was facing the same problem and knows the cause for it.
Thanks.

A:One or more activex controls could not be displayed because either

Hi - I had the exact same problem, also my windows sidebar gadgets wouldn't display properly.

You should delete 1 extra (parasite) zone from

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\

with pseudo-graphic number, you'll see it before zone number 0.
It seems this is a bug of Adobe flash player update, though I am not sure.

The pseudo-graphic number I'm speaking of before zone number 0 looks like a miniature upper case "L".
(copied from another forum)

Delete that registry entry and all is well.

Good Luck

I'm using internet explorer with all the latest updates, sp2, everything, and im having a problem installing activex controls. java wont install, flash wont install, but those both have exe packages so i dont mind

The main problem is i just got a copy of microsoft office 2003 and it wont let me install the activex thing that auto-updates

Here's what happens: the little blue thing uptop ie popsup. i right click it and choose install. the page reloads and i see the popup that says do you want to install this ....... with the options, always trust, never trust, just this time. so i choose "just this time" and press ok. it looks like it works, but then u go back to update, and it just asks u again if you want to install the activex thing, almost like clicking ok did nothing! i dont know why its not going thru!!! can someone please help me. thanks..

Gmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I get the following message from gmail when I try to send out an email message.... I've followed their instructions but still have the problem and can't get to any gmail customer service for help. Is there any way to correct this problem? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Herb.

Gmail requires ActiveX controls to be enabled

Your browser seems to be Internet Explorer, and ActiveX seems to be disabled. Gmail's standard view requires ActiveX to be enabled in order to operate.

To use Gmail's standard view, enable ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer. You can do this by going to the Tools menu, selecting Internet Options, Security tab, Internet zone, and either select the Default Level, or selecting Custom Level and scrolling down to "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and selecting Enable. (it was enabled already)

After enabling ActiveX controls, try again. (I did, no luck)

To use Gmail's basic HTML view, which does not require ActiveX, click here.

Does anyone know how to turn off the information bar for activex controls when they are being loaded from my own PC? With all the googling and testing I have done, this cannot be done with any Win7 or IE8 settings. This has got to be one of the most irritating pieces of junk I have ever encounted when trying to test java. Thanks....

A:IE8 Information bar for ActiveX controls

You mean "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" which is located in Advanced just below the Security section?

In IE 5.5 SP2 and Netscape 4.79 I am trying to connect to an internet site with ActiveX controls. I get the following error when attempting to do so: "Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being dispalyed properly or functioning properly....Object doesn't support this property or method" I triple-checked and matched all settings with another working machine that does work fine. Running Windows 2000 with SP2. Please advise.

Try updating to the latest version of Virtual Machine from the Micro$oft site.
