I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi interjaz,Welcome to the forum!Try the following:-1.) Unplug the power cord and the battery.2.) Press the 'Power' Button 10 times repeatedly.3.) Then hold the 'Power' Button down for 25 seconds.4.) Put the battery back in and plug the power cord back in.If it shows no sign of life then try removing the RAM and HDD one at a time to diagnose if it boots or throws any errors. If no go then probably your motherboard is bricked, try getting in touch with lenovo support to have them replace it; given that you're still under warranty.Hope it helps.

Hi all, I have seen similar issues on the forum but not one like this. Here is my situation when powering on I get the ERROR 0199: System Security – Security password retry count exceeded. It immediately goes into BIOS and then the computer freezes. My keyboard does not respond so I can not save/edit any bios settings and am stuck. I have tried using a USB keyboard but this also does not work. I have also tried a different hard drive but the same issue happens. And help would be appreciated!

I just installed a ADATA DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 4GB ram in my SL510. But when i trun it on, the screen was black and nothing display. There is also no "Bee Bee" sound from the motherboard. I checked the DVD-ROM can eject so I confirmed that the power supply is OK.  Can anyone tell me what happen? Thanks.

I have never had compatibility problems with ADATA, but sometimes it happens.  I assume you added the ADATA RAM in the 2nd slot.  Does it work by itself in slot 1?

The computer system crashes repeatedly with no known cause. Upon reboot, the computer sends the error report and then suggests to "Consider BIOs upgrade" http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/....2.0?SGD=7e44ec2b-1754-4790-b1cd-e8a9719ecb8b
Other problems include repeated application hangs of IE8 and the occasional abrupt crashing of assorted system services as well as other background program services e.g AVG, Spotify. These can only be returned to normal upon reboot as attempting to run the programs again results in nothing, except the task manager showing a small increase in CPU and i waited 30 minutes to make sure it just wasn't decreased response time.

But having gone to the ECS motherboard website and updated the BIOs with a new version, this did not solve the problem. I then decided to flash the entire HDD in the event of a tricky virus or corruption and reinstall Windows XP (32 bit) which didnt solve the problem. I then brought it into a PC repair shop in which they repeated the reinstall etc. and replaced a fan. This didnt solve the problem and returning the computer two times afterwards they couldn't find what was wrong with it. So i'm at the end of my tether lol i'm planning on starting a whole new build but i want to see if i can save the old one first. Any help would be veeery much apreciated =D.

Computer failed during upgrade of bios. I have followed all the steps to recover bios: taken out battery, pressed windows + B + power, restore screen appears. Computer goes thru bios restore process and verification. When it gets to the 'count down to windows start up' and 'continue to restart button', the computer freezes and does not restart. I have pressed the continue button, nothing. I have let the count down continue and it stops at 1 then nothing.

We have T570 laptops and Bios version 1.09 and some on 1.19 bios version.  New Bios came out to upgrade to 1.21 4/27/2017.  We've download the new Bios and upgraded it but in Bios still shows 1.19 not 1.21.  We try to run the upgrade again and says we have the latest version.  Anyone have a solution for this

I have posted a few questions regarding getting samsung 950 pro (NVME M.2 ssd) to be recognized quickly on boot by ENVY 750-170SE cto rom family id #2b4b and it hasn't been resolved.  I am pretty sure that HP will need to create a newer bios than the a.08 version that i have or the lower versioned number a.07 which is available from HP's website (even though it has a newer date than a.08 (this is really strange))  -  How do i go about getting HP to release a beta or final bios that shortens my boot time by 3 minutes?  Am i posting in the wrong area, if so where do i post?  I am not alone with this problem.  see SpearfishX post #21 - and i am unable to post in this forum, it needs to be reopened and addressed - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-u...

A:Bios Upgrade on HP Envy 750-170se CTO bios family 2b4b

@FrozenGamer? If your PC takes 3 minutes to boot in a factory condition then you should contact HP support. If your PC is less than 21 days old then quickly return it.  Without any modifications, your PC should be booting up in less than 30 seconds. I haven't seen any official HP posted information that supports NVMe m.2 SSDs.  Run the HP Support Assistant and see if it picks up a later BIOS update. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

I updated the bios after I had notified from Toshiba about the Bios v3.50. The process was done by the Toshiba Utility software, and after the reboot there is "Password =" on a blank screen and it not recognise my BIOS password, writing "Not certified".

I have also tried the HDD password but no luck.

What can I do now?

A:Satellite Z30-A-12R BIOS password not recognised after BIOS upgrade

Hi

Before trying to update the BIOS, all passwords should be removed!
BIOS password can be removed by authorized service provider available in your country.

But the unknown HDD password cannot be removed anymore.
In such case the HDD isn?t accessible and cannot be used.

Sorry mate but in my opinion you have only one chance to get the BIOS password removed; you need the ASP assistance.

hi there, i am fixing a friends old computer and the hdd was stuffed so i got a new maxtor diamondmax 9 for it. although once installing it i found out that it would only run in udma2 mode (checked it in another computer and it ran at full udma6)
so i suspect that the current bios cannot support udma5 or 6, so i am looking for a bios upgrade for it.
the bios string is 6A69RPRDC-00, the number on the actual motherboard is 35-C960-00-05
thanks for any help, i am really hoping i can make this board work at udma5 at least and not have to settle for udma2.
thanks again

Old Machines.....(just like me... but can still perform to the max lol)

I your Bios has the option of udma up to 6 then generally the bios supports the Mode! and your problem is that the HDD does not support the mode (cant remember if you said it does).

You are probably using wrong criteria for bios upgrade search.
Try WWW.driverguide,com

You Need the MB's Manufacturers Name or at least the MB Chipset and bios Manufacturers Name as well. go to the Computers muanufacturers website (you probably done that already) and search model.

otherwise Download a System info utility from Tech Spot, I use SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32.. (sandra might cause bluescreen on older machines).. Aida problably will have link direct to bios update site. hope this was of some help

Dear All,
I have a question regarding BIOS upgrades as well as downgrades. First, about downgrading BIOS, is it a safe thing to do? If not, then what makes it not safe? I have Dell Inspiron 640M, with the latest BIOS A10. Not happy with this one due to high pitch sounds coming from the top right hand corner of the laptop. It's been suggested that I downgrade only a couple of revisions back, namely, to either A09 or A08. However, Ive been getting conflicting reports about the safety of downgrading from Dell Tech Support. Some say that it's not done at all, others say that as long as it's only to downgrade back to a couple of previous versions, then risks are not as high as going all the way back to a really early version, such as A03 etc. The risks, I'm told, is in the performance of hard disks. Apparently, if you downgrade to a really early version such as A03, then problems will arise, though I'm not sure what the exact problems are. Moreover, there are those who say that there is no procedure for downgrading and that it is never suggested to anyone to downgrade their BIOS. The notion that it becomes riskier as you downgrade back to a really early version of BIOS such as A03 baffles me, because in my case, prior to doing any kind of updating for BIOS on my laptop, I had version A03, and have not had any kind of improvements, enhancements done to my computer whatsoever. in other words, my computer is the same as when I got it last year in terms of ha... I have the Dell Inspiron 518 desktop with 64 bit Vista, and attempted to update the BIOS to version 1.0.7 last evening.  I closed all open programs, disabled anti-virus, and ran the BIOS update as administrator.  The update began and asked if I would like to update from version 1.0.5 to 1.0.7, and I clicked on the update button.  The BIOS flash began by deleting the previous BIOS and then attempted to install the new 1.0.7 BIOS but produced an error message similar to "error writing BIOS to block," an the only option was to cancel the update.  I knew I did not have any BIOS installed at that point, but my computer was still operating so I made an additional attempt to re-download the 1.0.7 BIOS and re-install it.  No good, it would not even run now.  There was no turning back and no way to reinstall either the previous BIOS or the new one.  Eventually I tried to restart the computer, and it would not start.
Dell is sending a tech next week to replace the motherboard on this otherwise great computer that is only about two months old.
DO NOT upgrade the BIOS on a Inspiron 518 with 64 Bit Vista to version 1.0.7.  The upgrade does not work and will kill your motherboard.
Art

A:Dell Inspiron 518 BIOS v1.0.7 64 Bit Vista DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS

No it happened to me too.  Dell is replacing the motherboard under warranty but I was told somewhat firmly not to update the BIOS unless advised by a technican.  In my defense the BIOS update was listed as "recommended" under the download section for this unit on the Dell support website.
I would recommend to avoid two phone calls (over 40 minutes each) to tech support and several days waiting for a new motherboard, not to update the BIOS at this time.
Thankfully it is being covered under warranty.

Yesterday, I clean-installed Windows 8 Pro x86 on an old Dell Vostro 1400 laptop which had been running Windows 7 Ultimate, and it activated and ran fine, without even a single exclamation point in Device Manager. I applied the update necessary to make the Store offer 8.1 and proceeded to install it as I've done on a couple other machines. After downloading the thing, it errored out with:

Couldn't install Windows 8.1

Contact your PC manufacturer to see if you can upgrade the System BIOS

When I clicked the OK button, it then gave me the informative and grammar-challenged error box:

Something happened and the Windows 8.1 couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0xc1900104

Try again Cancel

Ever the optimist, I clicked Try again, and of course, it proceeded to download all over again from scratch, only to error out in the same way. I then downloaded all the Windows 8 updates, although just the one had been necessary on my other machines that successfully upgraded to 8.1, and tried again, only to get the same result.

Today, I've discovered the Windows 8.1 Compatibility Assistant, which avoids the lengthy download of the upgrade every time (Microsoft, maybe you should run it implicitly before downloading 3 GB of transient data), and it tells me:

Hi everyone! For the last moth or so, my screen has been off-centered: I have a 1-inch black bar on the right side of the screen, and the image continues for about the same distance under the screen.  Changing the resolution doesn't help, and all the related drivers are up to date.  I guess that on a desktop computer I could've gone through the screen's settings to replace the screen, but of course a laptop doesn't have such external buttons.  The problems only occurs on the laptop's built-in screen; when I plug to a TV through an HDMI cable, the image is just fine (no difference between extend screen and duplicate screen).  Anyone has an idea that could solve this problem? Here are my specs:Thinkpad SL510 LaptopWindows 10 Pro 64bitsIntel Core2 Duo CPU T6670 @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHzMobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset FamilyScreen is detected as a generic Plug-and-Play monitor Thanks,Marc

But somehow i can't seem to get the front USB working properly. The USB on the Backside just underneath the display works fine somehow but the front USB on the right side don't.  Whenever i try to put a USB device in them the device lightens up and then goes blank again. I also don't get any sound of a USB device getting detected but also no error message.  The OS currently is Windows 10 64bit. I tried to deinstall all USB devices and restart in hopes that they would work then and i also tried to remove the battery and hold the power button for 10 seconds before putting the battery back in and restart.  Anyone there who might be able to help me on how i could get those USB ports working? Thanks in advance for all answers.

Hello QcPilot,

Thanks for joining the forums.

Try to download the Chipset and Video drivers from the Lenovo support site.
Other than that, a factory reset may also help, or at least rule out any software issues.
Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine which Lenovo cannot be responsible for. 1.  Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key. 2.  Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this) 3.  Select ?restore from the initial backup? and then ?Next?. 4.  Click ?start? and accept the warning messages. Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.

If the above doesnt work, then this is likely a fault with the cable in the unit, something may have got shifted, or simply an issue with the panel itself, in this instance, it`s best to call your local Lenovo support line. Link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

I replaced the HD on this laptop with an SSD a little less than a year ago. Today I found the computer had apparently rebooted itself, and was stuck on the start-up screen (instead of the usual screensaver), "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button." The blue "ThinkVantage Button" does nothing. About 1 out of 10 tries, I can get onto the screen that says "Entering BIOS setup utility," but it never actually gets there. I've tried booting the system with various disk utilites on USB drives to no avail. I can't seem to get the BIOS to change to booting from a thumb drive. More ominiously, I can't seem to get other computers to recognize the SSD when attached externally using a SATA-to-USB connector, although I don't have any other SSDs to test it to make certain it's not the connector. The drive has seen very heavy use from running [email protected], but it's not even a year old. I've checked all the USB ports to make certain they're not shorted, and I've tried resetting the system by removing the battery and powering it up 10x and then holding the power button on for 30 seconds. Anything else to try?

Hello, SL510 2847-D2U.   Windows 7 Professional. 64-bit, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, HDD should be 250 but seems to show 200GB,    6GB RAM memory. Internet Explorer 11. General Problems: 1) When online, I receive requests almost daily to Update programs like Adobe, Java, even my AOL software. (NOT Windows Updates. Those seem to take hold fine, I think.) I allow the Updates and then the next day, I'm asked again. Again and again, day after day. It seems that the updates don't take hold. Is this normal to receive so many, so frequently?2) Using Datamask program from AOL interferes with various functions of the SL510. So I deleted the program. I would like to use it. And sorry, can't give example of a problem since it's been so long since deleting program. It might include a problem in using Internet Explorer, maybe not.3) Is Internet Explorer 11 compatible with the SL510 and specifications above? Or which version of IE is best? Or which IE is best with Windows 7 Prof.? Should I be adjusting anything? I appreciate it so much.Massachusetts

After going to Windows 10, I still have a Lenovo Recovery Partition (about 10 Gb).  I do not think this is usable anymore.  What can I do with it.  Is it safe to delete it or format it?  I have a SL510 laptop.

Hi!  I recently ran a system diagnostic and received a warning about the RTC on the motherboard.  As my computer usually runs very well, I was surprised because I had no idea there was an issue.  I am constantly updating drivers and software, maintaining my computer is my top priority! According to an Internet search it is referring to the system battery, BIOS, etc.  Can someone tell me what to do about this problem?  IS it a PROBLEM?  Do I need to buy a new computer before my baby dies? Please help...

I own a Thinkpad SL510 (purchased six years ago) that originally came with Windows 7, but was upgraded to Windows 10 a few months ago. After the upgrade, I attempted to turn it on, but after the Windows loading screen, the screen would come on - for a split second - and then shut right back off (the laptop itself still on). After trying different things to get it to successfully boot up, I found that if I just leave it in BIOS Setup for fifteen minutes, and then exit out of Setup, it would start just fine. This was a few months ago, and I soon got used to starting it up this way. However, with school being back in session, it's getting to be a bit of an inconvenience, and I'd like to know if there is something I can do to fix this problem and once again be able to start it up like normal. If my description of the problem wasn't clear enough, I can provide a video as well.

Hello! I have a Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 Laptop that I inherited from a batch of retired school computers. I was upgrading the HDD in it and I decided to have a look at some of the other components, so I removed the lower mouse panel and keyboard, but NOT the upper panel containing the power button and volume buttons. The issue is that now, when I plug in the computer (battery is shot), pressing the power button does nothing. I tried the method of removing the battery and AC power and pressing the button a few times to discharge any residual voltage to no avail. I know that I didn't damage any other components because when I remove and reconnect the BIOS battery, the computer boots up just fine. The only thing that doesn't work is the right hand side panel with the power button. I have tried reseating the ribbon connector, and both the ribbon cable and the motherboard header for it appear to be fine (and the left hand side panel works fine as well, pressing the mute button turns on the mute LED, but on the right side, no LEDs are on). I was wondering if there was something I am missing, or if I just need to replace the front panel. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am unable to re-install windows because no recovery disks came with the computer, and the Windows media creation tool simply tells me "The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options." Furthermore, I am told by Lenovo support that I would need to pay $45 additional for recovery disks. I find this highly disingenuous, and never would have purchased a laptop computer from Lenovo in the first place had I known this was the case. I have an existing product key, and should be able to use this to restore my system. This is very distasteful. There is no way around this?

I'm having problems with it and will need to re-load Windows.  But due to multiple problems I have with the Win7 64bit, I was wondering if I can re-load with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Anyone know if this is ok?If the 64 bit laptop can take the Windows 7 32 bit, would there be any disadvantages to doing so? Thank you so much!Massachusetts

It will work, but the main disadvantage is that the maximum amount of RAM that can be adressed will be around 3.5GB, not more...
