Preferred Solution: Windows Activation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Telephone Activation - if you choose to activate Windows XP using the telephone, you will need to read the 44-digit Product ID to the support representative in the activation center. You will then be given a 42-digit Activation ID, which you have to enter in the activation wizard. The support representative will wait until you finish typing in the Activation ID to ensure that the activation is successful.

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers
jimbo

I recently performed a system recovery because I was unable to back up to earlier time before we started having computer issues. Anyway I performed a recovery. Stumbled accross this by accident that windows has 3 days before it wall automatically activate. So I clicked activate. It gave me this message header. "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation". There are 3 options. 1 is to Buy a new product key online. 2 is to type a different product key. 3 is to contact Hewlett-Packard Company to resolve this issue. I contacted Hewlett-Packard Company and they had me call Microsoft. Microsoft wants to charge me $100 for something I already own. Very confused. Anyway does anyone have a fix for this. Thank you

A:Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for windows activation

Hi
You have two choices:
You may either reinstall using the recovery partition, if you have one.
or
You could look for the key on the computer. It can be anywhere, including the battery compartment, if you have a lappy.
As a last restort you can try to use magic jelly bean, but I have doubts since you reinstalled.

Hi guys , I installed ATI 2010 Home, Boxed version made a backup image to external HDD. got a message saying I had 30 days to activate trial version? I restored the backup image and I activated ATI , offline, I then received a message saying thanks successfully installed. When I access ATI now I get the same box asking for activation again. the options are Try out, Buy, Activate, Cancel . I was thinking of reactivating online , but am wary of further messing up the install . I have not registered the product yet , Had a look at the Acronis register page ( they tell you Not recommended to access the page) ? Any ideas with this one ? options uninstall , reinstall? Try activate online? Anyone experienced this problem?

A:Solved: Acronis keeps asking for activation after activation

Hi guys, this ones solved, I took a chance11 rebooted, connected to the internet, started ATI and reactivated online it worked . Same as last time only the ATI icon seems to be different, have tested it a few times and goes straight into Acronis without problems now. Done!

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Hiya,

I am having a problem with my windows 7 home premium 64bit. I wiped my computer to try and get a new graphic card to work( never got it working, gave up and went back to my old graphic card) Since then I have had to wipe my computer a number of times, I kept having to wipe my computer since the same problem kept happening. Which is that my windows will crash and wont work after about 1-2mins after start up.

I thought it was my disk so I installed it from a usb windows installer and has been runnign fine for about 2 weeks until I was free to do the phone activation of my windows, I phoned up the activation after using my computer for a while then after I phoned and it came up genuine (like normal) I went to get a drink befor doing more work and once getting back to my computer I opened a new tab on firefox it was very slow on the internet so I clsoed my browser and tried to reopen it and but it woulnd't open windows has frozen completely so I pressed the restart button on my case and let it boot up and then it wouldn't let me do anything.

Does anyone have any idea of how come my computer seem to freeze and refuse to work once I use the windows phone activation?

A:Windows wont work after using windows 7 home phone activation

What makes you think it is the activation? Did you go click on "Start Button", right click on "Computer" and left click on "Properties"? When the screen comes up scroll down to the right bottom of the screen and you should see a "Genuine Windows Logo". If it says something different then there is an activation problem.

I just completely reformatted my computer after a suspected malware attack.
The first thing I tried after reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition was to run windows update. I received the error code 80072EFD. This is before I installed any software, firewalls, or antivirus programs. I also get this same error when trying to activate windows or office, or when trying to set up Microsoft media center.

We purchased a VLK with Software Assurance from a local distributor here my question is what if from their VLSC License the Operating System listed are

10 Windows 7 Professional
82 Windows 8 Enterprise
15 Windows 7 Enterprise

We don't want to install Windows 8 as of now to our office and we wanted to retain the Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise as our Operating System. Do we have a problem for Activation if we still insists to used Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise Operating System using the Windows 8 Enterprise 82 Licenses?

Thank you very much

A:Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

There is no way you can use a Windows 8 Enterprise licence for anything else than Windows 8 Enterprise. You simply can not activate Windows with a product key belonging to another Windows version and edition.

With those licences you can install and activate 27 25 Windows 7, not a single more.

Hello all,
I have a very specific question that i can not find an answer.

I bought a new pc and i want to buy Windows 10 Pro. I have found a very good price for a Windows 7 Pro license which will give me a free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

I will have the key in the following days but the pc is assembled and ready.

(1)Can i clean install Windows 10 Pro and activate it with the windows 7 pro key that has never been activated even for a windows 7 machine or
(2)should i first install windows 7 pro, activate it with the key and then clean install windows 10 and activate it with the windows 7 pro key

Thank you.

A:Activation of Windows 10 (clean install) from a Windows 7 Pro edition

Hi Trod,
You can install W10 NOW and you dont have to activate it immediately, theres a 30 day grace period.
So when you get your W7 package you can activate it with the product key.
Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums.

note your purchased W7 pro licence MUST be either System builder or retail or it will not activate

Hi,

To keep using Windows, back up your files, and then install any edition of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Then after some min it restart on its own.....

my configuaration-

SP-1,v.721

now what can u do???

A:Windows Activation

Please check this thread for a possible solution: Pre-Release version expiring

It seems you need to uninstall the pre-release version of SP1 and install the up-to-date RTM version of SP1. This is because what you have is the pre-release version of Windows 7, which has an expiry date.

When I say SP1, I'm talking about the service pack itself, not a complete re-install of Windows 7.

The activation key isn't working, this is because according to Microsoft it is an OEM activation key that Acer used to install Windows and this is blocked. I suspect they will try to charge me or say they cant unblock it.

I bypassed entering the prod key upon the install, as I did not have the DVD case handy (that's where the prod key is located - on the outside back of the DVD case), knowing full well, I would have the ability to enter it later on.

And this is what I am trying to do now, but it isn't working. Can't activate over the internet; try by phone automated system, no go. Get a rep from the activation dept. on the phone, give him the MS generated activation id (not the prod key), and he tells me this is an invalid id. So, already I am confused, because if the prod key was wrong, I would not have been able to continue. But I was; this tells me that the product key was entered correctly. So now, the rep transfers me to customer service, who takes the case number given to me by the activation dept. rep, and then proceeds to tell me that he can not help me - that he needs to transfer me to the activation dept. "Hold on" I say, and explain the situation. He then transfers me to technical assistance, and when I tell the rep what is going on, he now proceeds to tell me that he has t... Read more

So, I installed a copy of Windows XP Home Edition on my desktop, and I got lazy witht eh 30 day activation thing, and wated untill it was too late.
When my 30 days were up, I turned on my computer, and it said "In order to use windows, you must activate it now". So I confirmed that, then the activation window popped up, but it said "Windows is already activated, click OK to close". So I click OK, and then it takes me back to the login screen.

Please help, I kinda need that computer.

If I changed my motherboard after I activated my Windows 7 OEM. Can I still re-activate the Windows 7 OEM or do I need to buy a new one?

A:Re-activation of Windows 7 OEM.

Welcome
The rules of OEM say only on one computer.
The defintion of a new computer is a new MB.
So technically, you have to buy a new OS

However
If you activate by phone, by not putting in your number when asked and unchecking the box, activate automatically when online then explain to a rep, most likely they will let you activate.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC.
I have activated it Successfuly.
MY question is .In the future when i have to reinstall my OS i have to activate again and again.
Instead of doing that there is a Microsoft Digital Signiture(a file about 7kb) which is written somewhere on my hdd. That file contains the Confirmation ID#.This can be used in case of reinstalling of OS,so i dont have to activate again.INstead you just enter the confirmation ID and then the activation is completed.
Is it true this or how does Windows 7 keeps the Activation.
i dont want to activate every time.
That is why i would like to know if such file exist and that is?
Thanks

Activation is only a click away, why bother finding another route? Unless you are going to upgrade multiple pieces of hardware at the same time, then you'd have to do phone activation.

I have a question, not necessarily a problem. Last night I installed Nero and when I restarted, Windows XP Home came up and told me that I have made significant changes to my system since Windows was activated. (I bought and installed XP home version sometime between Xmas and New Year's, so I've had it about a month.) It wanted me to reactivate windows withing 3 days. I was a little confused, but tried to reactivate, but was informed that my code had exceeded its limits and to get a new one. I had a choice of phone numbers to call, but since it was later in the evening, thought I would do it first thing this morning. This morning I repeated what I did last night cause I could find the list of numbers. This included going online. I was waiting for the next info page to load and noticed at the top of the screen that it had been successfully reactivated. Last night I re-entered my code. This morning I didn't. I don't understand what happened and why I would have to reactivate to start with. I am curious about this and wonder if anybody else has had this happen. I hope I don't have to reactivate every time that I make changes. That would suck.
Thanks.

A:Windows XP activation

Typically you only have to reactivate after major changes. I think it is up to 10 hardware devices? Normally you'll get that if you swap out a mobo or change a lot of hardware. As for the key being used too many times, you can just call and they will give you another to type in.

I recently had Windows Vista and my Hard Drive crashed so I installed a new one and reloaded all the original drivers and programs from the recovery disc. I purchased a Windows 7 upgrade and installed it on my laptop and my Desktop which is a 64 Bit system. It seemed to have loaded correctly but noticed yesterday that I got a message that I needed to activate Windows. So I entered the Product Key # and it kept saying that I needed to re-enter or buy a new program. I can't understand why it keeps saying it when I do have the product key. I never got the message on Vista so what is the system not recognizing ? I woud hate to either re-format my system and reload the Vista program and then upgrade again or have to buy another Windows 7 program. Is there an easier way ?

A:Windows 7 activation

You have to purchase another copy of Windows for the computer you can not activate. You will get a new key and you can input that to activate.

Keys are only good for one machine.

Existing BitLocker deployment on Windows 7 Enterprise laptops is working fine.  msTPM-OwnerInformation attribute and the BitLocker volume recovery child objects are visible using ADSIEdit for Windows 7 laptops.  The BitLocker deployment was configured
according to this classic TechNet article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd875529%28WS.10%29.aspx
All working great under Windows 7 laptops.  Began testing Windows 8 Enterprise RTM about a week ago.  Looking to test BitLocker but first have to deal with the TPM.

In Windows 8 "Prepare the TPM" through TPM.msc asks for a Restart per usual, the TPM text UI shows up immediately after post (a Dell Latitude E6430 running latest A03 BIOS) asking to confirm.  Press F10 to confirm and the machine reboots again and Windows
boots successfully.  Login using the same domain credentials and this screenshot is on the desktop (have to flip to the desktop to see it)

First hunch was msTPM-OwnerInforamation attribute under the Computer object not getting updated.  It was correct, the msTPM-OwnerInformation attribute is not populated with the recovery string.  Most of the other topics and posts related to this
centered around permissions of SELF to write the msTPM-OwnerInformation attribute:

A:Windows 8 Ent TPM Activation to AD DS

The Schema update did the trick.  I was not able to locate specific schema LDF's for the Windows 8/2012 BitLocker/TPM updates.  Instead I used ADPrep off the Server 2012 media which took the Schema level to 56.

To anyone having this problem -- for now update the AD DS schema using ADPrep off of the Server 2012 media similar to if you were going to add a Server 2012 domain controller.  (Although now technically Microsoft has added the adprep steps to the Server
Role Wizard in 2012, eliminating the need manually run it beforehand.  Nevertheless, running it manually as we have been doing for years can still be done.)
If you haven't done it before, a nice introduction is below.
Running Adprep.exe
I was then able to successfully assign owner information to a Windows 8 Enterprise TPM using TPM.msc and have it back up to AD DS.  I also now see why the Schema update was necessary...
Windows 8, instead of using the msTPM-OwnerInformation attribute under the Computer Object, instead creates a msTPM-TPMInformationForComputer attribute which itself is a reference another object located underneath CN=TPM Devices, DC=example, DC=local.
Under this referenced object (not the computer object) is the msTPM-OwnerInformation attribute with the TPM data (and other attributes).
